Chapter 11: We see different
When she'd thought that Kagami saw her as an acquaintance, she had meant it as a joke. Imagine her surprise when it was exactly the case.
She didn't actually think that they weren't friends.
Sure, they had just met. Sure, they barely knew each other, but that didn't exactly mean that they weren't friends, did it?
She wouldn't say they were close friends because that was a lie, but they… they had to be something akin to friendship, right?
Sure they were different, but that didn't mean that they weren't bound by friendship. No, not the red string of fate and all that… Maybe they were bound by circumstances, but that didn't deny the fact that they weren't… friends.
She made a face.
They… they had to be something at the least, right?
When Kuroko asked him of what he thought of Ryuuzen Rei, he didn't really know how to respond. She was a girl who was sort of clingy. She had always pestered him to go on a date with her since she came into the school.
She was short.
She was nice… thought that was probably because she liked him.
She wasn't very independent.
She always clung to him like glue and sometimes, he found it to be irritating. She was friendly, yes, he'd give her that, but… he didn't really see her in another light. He knew she liked him, but he didn't—he just wasn't in to her like that.
He wasn't really interested in anyone.
No, not really.
So, when Kuroko had asked him of the proverbial question, he had to play it off. He probably came off too mean when he told the blue haired guy that he didn't see her as a friend. But, that had been the truth.
They were acquaintances. Not friends. He barely knew her and she barely knew him. They went out on one date and that was it. They hadn't known each other for so long. All he knew about her was that she was one of his classmates and even then, he'd thought she'd been there from the start.
Before their little goukon, Kagami didn't really know that she wasn't actually technically a student from Seirin. He didn't even know that she was just here for a month or something like that?
He barely knew her.
They hardly knew each other, so when Kuroko asked, he told him the truth.
She wasn't—
He wasn't—
They weren't exactly… the same.
Aomine Daiki was feeling un-lazy enough today to take a stroll in the park. He didn't feel up for locking himself somewhere or lazing around roof buildings. It was unusual, but he felt a little bit more energetic than most days.
He felt livelier today.
Something about the way he woke up or the something in the air, but fuck. Today he felt alive. He was about to pass the swings to go the court beside it when he noticed a certain someone.
Small boobs.
He quirked an eyebrow and approached her. She was on one of the swings, moving slightly forward and back. She looked more downcast that usual. 'Maybe lamenting on the fact that she had small boobs?', he thought.
Aomine mentally tried to punch himself.
When he got close enough to kick her, Ryuuzen looked up, unsmiling and looking angry and annoyed. "Yo." She said.
"Yo."
She was silent. It was obvious that she didn't want to talk, so Aomine was quiet too. He looked at the swing next to her and thought it would look absolutely ridiculous if he sat on it. Him, a 192-cm-guy or 6'2, sitting on a swing set that was used to cater little children.
Would the swing even support his weight?
"If you're just gonna stand there, people are gonna think you're some kind of pedophile." Ryuuzen struck him out of his thoughts, but if she didn't want her standing, then where—
"Sit down." She commanded.
He stared at her like she was crazy. She sighed and thought that he thought she was looking down on him. "Please."
Aomine slowly eased himself onto the seat, hoping it wouldn't break. When he sat down, he immediately shifted his weight to his legs which were on the ground, stretched and long. Aomine was hunched forward, afraid it would break if he moved a bit.
Ryuuzen's legs hardly touched the ground. It was hours after school and it would get dark soon, but she was still wearing her uniform. Her Seirin one.
She started swinging back and forth a bit more.
"Ao, we're friends, right?"
"Hmm," what was she up to?
"I mean, we're not close, we've barely known each other, but we're friends right? Not best friends, no, but we're—we're—"
"Yeah."
"Oi, it's dark again."
Instead of the usual snippy 'I can see that' comment she made, Ryuuzen merely mumbled a barely audible yeah.
"You want me to walk you to your house?"
"Yeah." She paused for a second and said "Yeah, sure"
"So what were you doing in the park, stupid?" Aomine started to ask as they left the park. He didn't end up playing basketball, but somehow that didn't matter right now.
She looked serious when she told him that she was just there to lure out any pedophiles close by. "I didn't think one would actually come." Ryuuzen smirked, laughing at her own joke.
Of course, the two of them ended up arguing along the way.
Omake:
"If you're just gonna stand there, people are gonna think you're some kind of pedophile." Ryuuzen struck him out of his thoughts, but if she didn't want her standing, then where—
A police whistle was heard in the distance.
"Stop! Police!"
Huh?! What the hell?
"Sir, we're gonna have to ask you step away from the little girl!"
Both Aomine and Ryuuzen's eyes were wide. "Wait, he's not—" "I'm not—"
He took a step towards the swing to show the policemen that they knew each other. "Stop right there!" They started running to him, getting ready to jump him.
"I ain't a pedophile!"
"Quick! He's trying to make a run for it."
'Truly an Ahomine' Rei thought, sweatdropping.
Author's note: Ahhh, 3 chapters in a row. I'm on fire. Haha. Anyway, I would once again like to thank everyone who's reading this. But also, a quick clarification: I don't want anyone to perceive Kagami as an ass or a villain. I think it's very reasonable that he'd react that way. Every time he's with her, it's been… weird for him.
For those who've reviewed the last chapter, indescribable music and DessertsPlease, thank you very much. I do think that the previous chapter was less light hearted and I really did aim to break Ryuuzen's heart—even by a bit.
Anyway, since no one has yet guessed—or tried guessing, OTL—what chapter 9 was supposed to be symbolic of, I guess I'll just say it. It's supposed to be an awakening and something else that will be shown in the next chapters. Just pay close attention to how clingy and dependent Ryuuzen will be in the next chapters.
