~Eilonwy
The young princess was certain that this was the way out! After all, her bauble was leading the way, so it must be right. She struggled over yet another pile of crumbling stone, hating the feel of dust and grit underneath her once prim nails. No use complaining now, of course. There would be plenty of that once she made it home, for sure.
The Horned King believed her bauble might find the Black Cauldron. Wasn't he wrong, the nasty old creep!
Eilonwy's bauble danced in the air before her eyes, then shot upward, tapping repeatedly against a slab of stone. With a weary sigh, she stood up and braced her feet shoulder-width beneath her, then pushed up with all her strength. The stone, though heavy, was relatively loose and easy to move, and she made quick work of making a hole.
Her ball of light zipped up and out, illuminating her new surroundings. It was a cell much like the one she had been held captive within. Only there was something here.
The bauble drifted over to the dark shadow, lighting up its blue, box-like surface. For it was a rather tall blue box like Eilonwy had never seen. She hoisted herself out of the tunnel and brushed off her dress, keeping her eyes trained on the strange box.
Suddenly, the door opened, and the bauble darted inside. It came back out after a moment, then disappeared once more. Shaking her head with a stern sigh, Eilonwy marched after it. Sometimes it was as though the light had a mind of its own, honestly!
The door shut swiftly behind her.
