Chapter: Seeing One Another

..

.. Six Months Later: …..

..

Six months has passed and Rayne still hasn't come back.

Missions had come and gone. It felt lonely without Rayne on by his side or in present within the manor.

Connor had just come back from going on a mission to help a man named Paul Revere to warn the citizens through Lexington and Concord that the British were coming. Connor even helped out with the Continental army in Lexington to defend the town.

But from another point of view, Achilles had taken note on how Connor became distant and would always go out to roam the woods like a lost little boy.

Achilles noted Connor become a bit distant and would go out, roaming the woods like a lost little boy. At the moment, Achilles is currently staring at his young assassin with a low sigh escaping from his weathered lips.

"Connor."

"Yes, Achilles?"

"Can you go to Boston for me and put a few orders in for me?" Achilles asked. His eyebrows shot up as he watches Connor stand up straighter in his spot and nods his head.

"Yes. Of course." Connor quickly answered.

Walking out of the room before coming back in with a sheet of paper with orders on it, Achilles hands it over to the anxious Connor.

"Have fun." Achilles said, watching Connor bow his head before quickly rushing out of the house and he is heading straight towards the stables to get a horse.

Standing at the window, leaning against his cane, Achilles gets a small grin upon his lips as he watches Connor ride off on the quickest horse that they have.

"Hopefully, he runs into her. The moping around is getting on my damn nerves."

..

.. Next Day; Boston …..

..

"Father, what is going on?"

"The induction to the new Commander In Chief is happening today and he is making a speech."

"Who is it?" Rayne asked as she walks alongside her father with her assassin hood down when they enter a large building where meetings been holding up.

"George Washington. Or should I say General Washington." Leonardo answered as they dodge around people socializing in groups.

The building inside was plain yet had portraits of various people lined up against the wall. They enter a room with benches and people sitting down, discussing amongst themselves in low whispers or looking at the front of the room where it appear to be military people stood.

"I see. How interesting." Rayne lowly said, taking a glimpse around their surroundings.

Her eyes came to set on a familiar face that she did not want to see.

"Charles Lee." She growled making her father to look at her with raised eyebrows before he looks into the direction that she is looking in.

"Oh, so you know, Lee."

"Do I? He is the one that killed Storm. He was also present at the time when mother and Felix were kidnapped." Rayne informed him.

That information got Leonardo eyes to widen then narrow upon Lee before he looks at Rayne with a serious expression. His sapphire blue eyes darkening like a raging ocean during a storm.

"Oh really?"

"Yes, father."

"Well, we have to keep a close eye on him during this meeting. Let's go in before the good seats are taken." Leonardo said as they walk down the aisle of benches before sitting down near the front.

The sighting of Lee within this meeting, Rayne thought of Connor and how he is after Charles Lee.

'Connor…I wonder how he is doing.' She thought while looking down towards her boot cladded feet.

Rayne knew that she is being stubborn and a bit childish for running away and now taking her time on getting back to the Homestead, but she did need to get away. She needed some freedom and enough room to take a breather. Being with her family helped her to come back down to the world and clear her mind. Though she has to admit that she misses being around Achilles, and especially being around Connor.

Sitting beside Rayne, Leonardo has taken notice that his daughter is in a daze state of mind. Her eyes appear to reflect hints of sadness too. Leonardo knew that she must be thinking about Connor, which Leonardo will be having a few words with him when he sees him again. Knowing the story of what happen between them, Leonardo told Rayne that he understood why she ran off, yet she has to solve this sort of thing face-to-face with Connor too. But, being her father and she is his little girl, Leonardo is still going into protective father mode and exchanging a few words with Connor.

Looking away from Rayne, Leonardo glances around the room and sees a familiar face.

"Which is now." Leonardo lowly blurted out to mostly himself upon seeing the said assassin that he needs to have a few words with. In from the back comes Connor, walking into the room with Samuel Adams.

"What father?" Rayne looks at him with confusion upon hearing him mumbling something to himself.

"Nothing, Rayne. Look here is the new general. Let's listen." Leonardo quickly said, nodding his head forwards and not wanting her to look to the back where Connor is.

Paying attention, Rayne listens in upon this new appointed Commander in Chief make his speech. Halfway through, Charles Lee blurted something out that caused everyone to look at him. But when Rayne looked back at him, she doesn't see him. Instead, a low gasps escapes from her upon seeing that Connor is present. He stood in a spot in the back, glaring at Lee and stepping forwards but is stopped by Samuel Adams, who doesn't want Connor to do anything rash, especially in a moment like this.

"Connor." Rayne whispered.

"Indeed, it is him." Leonardo said before standing up as the meeting ended.

Leonardo makes his way up to the front to Washington with Rayne slowly trailing behind him.

"Mr. Cross, you are my lieutenant right?" Washington asked, shaking hands with Leonardo.

"Yes, General."

"Good. I need someone like you."

"Someone like me?" Leonardo slowly asked, confused on why Washington is now grinning at him.

Standing beside her father, Rayne is watching the exchange between Washington and her father, but she looks to her right to see Samuel walking towards them with Connor. Her eyes catches Connor's eyes making his eyes to widen with shock, but also, there is happiness in them too.

"Yes, I have heard great achievements from you. You believe in what I believe in. To be brave, determine, and strong. I need that in my men, so I am glad you are my lieutenant that will be by my side."

"By your side would mean that I am your—"

"Lieutenant General." Washington cuts off Leonardo and informed him his new role.

A smile comes onto Rayne face upon witnessing her father being promoted to a very high ranking. A rank below the General himself. The new promotion even has Leonardo mouth to go agape before a wide smile comes onto his face, and he is shaking hands with a smirking Washington once again.

"Thank you, General."

"No, thank you. Now who is this young lady?" Washington turns to Rayne.

"This is my daughter, Rayne Cross." Leonardo introduced her.

"Ah, yes, I have heard what you been doing around, helping out our side, thank you."

"Welcome, General." Rayne shakes his hand and said before she looks to her right where Samuel steps forwards with Connor.

Stepping back, Rayne watches as Connor is now being thanked by Washington for helping out with the Patriot side. They shake hands before Washington leaves them to go speak with Charles Lee about something. Rayne eyes Samuel whispering something to Connor before stepping away, allowing Connor to turn to Rayne.

But instead of turning to see Rayne, Connor is staring straight in the eyes of Rayne's father, Leonardo Cross.

"Connor, how lovely to see you again. Come let's speak." Leonardo puts on a charming smile and he drops his left hand upon Connor's shoulder, giving it a squeeze.

Connor cannot help but find himself swallowing a bit harder than usual as he knew that Leonardo 'cheerful' side is definitely an act. Connor knew that he is definitely screwed right now.

..

.. Few Minutes Later: …..

..

They had walked side-by-side together in silence before they ended up in an area where no one is around. Upon finding this spot, Leonardo and Connor stop walking.

Standing back, Connor watches as Leonardo begins pacing back and forth before him for a few minutes before stopping before Connor. In an instant, Connor is taken off guard and he soon finds himself shoved up against a building wall behind him. A hidden blade to his throat causing Connor to go wide eyes in shock as he didn't know that Leonardo has a hidden blade hiding underneath his uniform jacket sleeve.

"What did I tell you about hurting my little girl?" Leonardo lowly growled.

"I didn't mean too."

"You treated her like a little puppy, scowling her down into nothing. For all she done for you and for all the time she helped you out. You reward her with shouting at her. I should hurt you but she seems to have hurt you when she left." Leonardo sharply explained, slightly pressing his hidden blade closer to Connor throat before he steps away and slides his hidden blade back into place.

Connor reaches up to his neck to see if Leonardo drew any blood, but he finds nothing. He looks at Leonardo, who is intensely staring down Connor with those fierce sapphire blue eyes that glow like the blue flames in a fire.

"I didn't mean to. I was so angry with Johnson that I snapped on her. She had slapped me for it and I deserved it and—"

"Yes, you did." Leonardo blurted out before waving at Connor to continue explaining himself.

"And when she left, I knew that I had messed up badly with her. I regret that day and wish I could take it back but I realize that I have to learn my mistakes. I apologize for hurting your daughter and wish to never do so again. I—I might feel something for her." Connor admitted, turning his head to the side as he just admitted about having deep feelings for Rayne to her father.

Leonardo calmly stares at the young assassin, who is now standing straight and stronger as he just explained his wrongdoings and has apologized. But also, admitting to having feelings for his daughter. Leonardo has his arms cross over his broad chest and he is staring at Connor with a calm expression.

Slowly, Leonardo walks forwards and he reaches out with his right hand towards Connor. Connor is now staring at him with raised eyebrows and slight confusion upon Leonardo smiling at him now. Leonardo pats Connor on the right shoulder and a nod of the head.

"I accept your apology. But do not do it again."

"Yes, sir."

"And stop calling me sir. Jeesh, it's Cross or Leonardo to you." Leonardo said making Connor to nod.

"Now, let's get out of here and shall we go see Rayne?"

Connor nods once again making Leonardo to smirk at the young assassin.

"Good. She has wanted to see you too."

"Really?"

"Of course. She feels bad for staying away for so long but I been keeping her busy around here on taking out some British soldiers and helping out Adams with things." Leonardo told Connor as they are now walking back into the streets of Boston.

"I can understand why she stayed away for so long and now I know more reason why she hasn't been around." Connor replied as they turn down a street and are now walking by a few red coats that sneer a bit at Leonardo, but Leonardo simply ignores them as if they weren't even there in the first place.

They finally come upon a house that is almost on the outside of the walls of Boston and it is near the waterfront. Leonardo looks over at Connor before he opens the house front door.

"Ready?"

Connor stares at him then at the front door with determination.

"Yes."

"Good. Shall we?" Leonardo opens the door where he steps through first.

Connor stands there a few seconds before letting out a deep exhale from his nose and he steps in, following after the older man and shutting the door behind them.
