The Council Building, The Capitol, Gallifrey

A small girl sits in a waiting room, trembling with possibility.

In the adjoining room sits the untempered schism, a rip in time and space that will decide her fate.

She sits there, shaking, carefully considering the possible outcomes.

Outcome one, she will be inspired, like most Timelords, given a new outlook, a new sense of perspective unique to her, and possibly some sort of new ability. This was the fate of her mother, Romanadvoratrelundar, although, as is customary, she never told anyone what she was inspired to do, so Kat does not really know the outcome here.

The second possible outcome is that, like many unfortunate Timelords, she will feel a sudden urge to run, leaving Gallifrey behind, unlikely to return. Though this was what happened to her father, this was not until quite a time after he looked into the schism, in the time between, he managed to scrape through the exam that concludes the academy on his second attempt with, she had heard rumoured, 52%. Although it would be fascinatingly exciting to traverse the universe, leaving her planet behind, most "runners" are renegades, exiled from the planet, and that would mean not seeing Koschei, Finn, or even her previous guardians, Andred and Leela, ever again, a fate she refused to accept.

The last possibility (ignoring the nagging fear that nothing would occur, and the effects of that), would be that she would look into that tear, that rip that showed the inner workings of the universe, and simply lose her sanity. Though, when she was with him, it was difficult to tell, this had been the fate of Koschei, her beloved guardian, mentor, carer and friend. Occasionally, he would just sit staring into space, his fingers tapping a steady rhythm into his knee. On one occasion, she had glimpsed inside his mind, curious as to what it would be like, and had met with a deafening thought, an uncontrollable drum beat, steadily beating on forever, unstoppable. She had fled from his mind, and then enveloped him into a hug, his arms folding around her as she frantically wept. The horrifying experience was unlikely ever to leave her.

A dark haired Timelord appears in the doorway, a flash of recognition crossing his face briefly before he clears his throat, and nods towards her, waving her through to the next room.

She is met with a sort of alleyway, bordered with flaming torches, leading towards a round, covered window, through which she would see the entirety of the vortex.

The dark-haired Timelord turns a crank as she walks towards the object, and as it is revealed to her, she at first feels drawn towards it.

Then she is hit with a fierce, raging wave of agony, she begins to scream as it races through her mind, horrific, terrifying images bursting into her mind, as she retreats into it.
