Dreaming of Reality chapter 11
The arrow left her bow , connecting with the Qunari's stomach. Sebastian couldn't help but admire how this Lea handle her bow. Never had he ever remembered her being so flawless.
Turning, she quickly Knocked another arrow and sent it flying right past his ear into the qunari behind him.
"Distracted?" Lea replaced her bow on her back as the last of their enemies fell to Isabella's blade.
He turned his head away hiding the sudden emotion that seemed to fill his cheeks.
"These Qunari are not here for just any reason." Fenris joined them hoisting his blade over his shoulder. Sebastian turned his eyes to Isabella.
"Er.. well yes. There is a reason."
"Ah well," Lea crossed her arms and cocked her mouth into a smile. "There always is. Can we know the truth now?"
Isabella's face dropped down, hurt completely clear. "I didn't want to worry you. I've known all along but the time-"
"Don't. Just tell me."
Isabella's eyes grew into slants. "It wasn't my fault." She spat with more heat then was necessary. She took a deep breath and continued. "The relic is some hand written text by that philosopher of theirs. Keslan- cousland" she waved her hand without a care.
"Koslun?" Fenris spoke up and Lea turned to him.
"Do you know something about this?" Lea asked. Sebastian couldn't help but notice the raw curiosity in her eyes. She was frustrated yes, but still she wanted to learn again what she didn't know.
"Koslun is the founder of their religion. He is the most revered being in their history."
"And you stole it from them?" Sebastian's head snapped back as Lea moved forward toward the pirate. "That's just as bad as stealing a bloody book from the Vatican. " Everyone's face twisted up in confusion as the unfamiliar analogy left Lea's lips.
"I didn't have a choice! You know what happened with the slaves! I had to redeem myself with Castillon somehow!"
"No, Bella! You didn't. " Lea shook her head in disappointment. "Did you ever once think to go out on your own? Be free. Instead of making a living listening to the words of someone else!"
"Of course I have! What's done is fucking done! I stole it from them, they followed me here to reclaim it and that's why they're still in Kirkwall. Sorry."
" All this could have been avoided had you told us sooner." Sebastian finally put his words in. the situation, he could sense, was growing more heated by the second. Isabella feeling as she did and Lea clearly frustrated. "Let us just get the book and negotiate with Arishok."
"No. I can't do that."
"The hell you can't." Lea lunged forward and grabbed her wrist. "You had here saving your skin. If it is the book they want they can have it. Castillon will be dealt with later." Lea released her, her face straight and serious. "You have my word." The pirate watched her for any sign of her pervious hostility. But Lea's face held nothing of the sort. Sebastian was slightly amazed at the woman before him. She had always been so carefree and light hearted, but now in the heat of the situation, with the state of her mind, she was much more cautious.
"I will not stand by and let you die over something as simple as free slaves."
She remembered! Sebastian's face lit up and he turned to her. "You remember, then?"
Sebastian's question had caught me off guard. The images had flown through her mind as Bella had started going off. They had been standing in a church of some sort, explaining why she was on the run.
Lea froze for a moment before turning to him. "I recall the story." I Couldn't explain it but something in me was shifting. Bits and pieces were coming through in my mind's eye but nothing was making any sense. "Look, let's just go and get this over with. We can figure out what's wrong with me later." Grasping my bow I turned toward Bella. " Lead."
"Magisters." Fenris raised his blade as the old man ran out away from the mages.
"He's getting away!" Bella turned and ran after him leaving me and the others with to the fight. I knocked an arrow and shot it at the first mage I saw lodging it in his stomach. His shield flickered as he fell to the ground.
"We can't just let her get away!" I raised my bow inn defense as a qunari swung his sword down.
She was just a whore. What has she ever done but bring you down in life.
My mind flickered.
"How can you even say that?! Bella has been there for me since we were in high school. I can't just let her throw her life away like this!"
"If she really cared do you think she would put you through this! Lealia!"
The blade connected with my skin, jolting me out of the flash back. Quickly I dropped my bow and rolled out of way, unclasping my daggers.
"Lea!" I rolled back over cutting at the qunari's legs . "I'm fine." The qunari fell giving me the opportunity to slit his throat. The arrow whizzed past me connecting with the magister behind me before he could send a spell in my direction. I looked up and saw Sebastian.
She's nothing but a whore. Damien's voice rang in her head but when Sebastian spoke, his words were not what she was expecting. "Go after her." I held his gaze for a moment, Damien flashing over his features, before nodding and running out after my friend.
"Bella!" She was standing over the dead body of the old man, the book tightly clasped to her chest.
"You have to understand, Lea. I have to do this."
I need him.
Her mind flashed out again.
"No you don't."
"What good would returning to him do? Do you want to be stuck working for him forever?"
"AHH!" I grabbed my head in pain letting my daggers fall to the floor. Flashes filled my mind confusing me.
The last thing I heard was Bella calling my name.
