"Ten, wake up," Lin whispered to the sleeping man next to her. The man just laid there, "Ten, Tenzin!", she screamed in his ear causing him to shoot up from the bed.
"What happened?! Are you alright? Are they kids alright?"
"Yes you Airhead."
"Alright then," he said as he got back into bed and closing his eyes. Lin was getting annoyed at him, so she pushed him out of bed.
"Ahww, Lin, what in the name of the spirits was that for?"
"For someone who has an unbelievable busy day, he sure picks the worst day to sleep in." Tenzin then jumped up and ran to the bathroom to shower.
Lin laughed to herself as she put on her robe and made her way to the nursery. It's was just after dawn, she checked on Kuzon to make sure he was sleeping. Lin walked over to Zenaka's crib, the little girl with all bright eyed and a smile appeared on her face when she saw her mother.
"Mama!" She squealed, with her arms stretched out waiting for her mother to pick her up. Lin happily fulfilled the request.
"Good morning, my sweet girl. Happy Birthday Zenaka."
"'appy birfday mama," repeated the little girl. Lin chuckled as she pressed a kiss each of Zenaka's cheeks.
"No silly, it's your birthday, yours and Kuzon's. You're both a year old today," she explained to her.
"Oooh, Ku, Ku'on! Up, up, it's birfday!"
"Zenaka, sweetheart let your brother sleep," Lin said to the infant as she pressed a kiss to her forehead this time. Zenaka just nodded in response. Lin walked to the living room and placed Zenaka near the coffee table while she made Tenzin a cup of tea.
Tenzin stumbled into the living room trying to fasten his robes when he was greeted by his daughter.
"Daddy!" squealed the one year old, as she lifted her arms, wanting him to pick her up. He happily picked her up, completely forgetting that he was still not fully dressed.
"Happy Birthday, my beautiful girl." He gave her several kisses on each cheek causing the infant to giggle.
"Daddy, ickle, ickle," Tenzin has started growing out his bread, he kissed her a few more times just to hear her laugh. This was the scene that Lin walked in on. It always warmed her heart when she saw Tenzin with their children but there was something special about the way he interacted with their daughter that made her love him even more. Tenzin didn't notice her until Zenaka said mama, Lin had placed the cup of tea on the table and went to the pair.
"Time to relinquish the birthday girl and for you to go," Lin said as she took her daughter from her father's arms.
"No! Daddy no go!"
"I'm sorry my girl. I'll be back soon, take care of your mother for me." He gave her one more kiss before drinking his tea and putting on his remaining clothes.
"I'll be back just after lunch and we can to the island after their nap," he told Lin before kissing her farewell.
"Gran-gran! Presents!"
"Yeah! Presents!" Kuzon yelled in agreement with his sister.
"What about cake?" asked their grandpa. The twins shared a looked and then turned to look at the dinner table.
"Cake!" they both got up as quickly as they could and ran to the table. Zenaka got there faster than Kuzon, who had tripped and had one of his older brothers carry him over. Zenaka had climbed up on the table and immediately went for the cake.
"No Zena, we have to wait for Kuzon." Lin quickly grabbed her daughter so she won't keep going for the cake.
"Ku! 'Urry up!" all of her grandparents laughed at the little girl's comment, sounding just like her mother and grandmother at the moment. Kaian had sat Kuzon next to his twin before he too went for the cake, his father quickly grabbed him.
"Not so fast, you two," said their father as their granda lite the candles on their cake. Zenaka was always in aww when either any one all sang happy birthday to the twins and soon began cheering them on to blow out their candles.
"Go on blow out the candle and make a wish," Lin said to Zenaka as her father did the same with her brother. She had remembered seeing her father and Rinzin airbending the same way. Kuzon tried blowing out the candles but it didn't quite reach the candles. She drew in as much air as she could and blew causing not only the fire on each candle to go out but the cake off the table too. Kuzon started to cry when he say the cake disappear while every adult in the room was in shock.
"Zena! Make wish!" her cousin Iroh said as he made a small fireball for her to blow out. She drew in another breath and blew at the fire that he held causing not only the fire to go out but for Iroh to fall backwards. Both infants were laughing and soon joined in by Kuzon's laughter as well.
The first of the adults to realize what happened was Toph, who was only about ninety percent sure of what just happen. She went over to her daughter, taking her granddaughter out of her mother's arms.
"Did you just airbend, my little badgermole," she said knowing that she should probably stop calling her a badgermole since she was an airbender. "Can you should grandma again? Come on deep breath, yeah just like that and blow at dad." Zenaka did just as her grandma asked her and blew as much air as she could towards her parents, who still had Kuzon between them, who was trying so hard to blew air just like his sister.
"No firebends!" Yelled the little girl, she wanted to be like her cousin and be able to make fire.
"Oh, my darling little girl," Tenzin handed his son to his mother while he took their daughter into his arms, held her tightly and left a few tears of joy fall. Lin, along with the rest of the adults in the room were also teary eyed.
Kuzon was getting upset at the attention that his sister was getting. He figured it was because she was able to blow out the candles and he wasn't so he started to fuss.
"Mama, wish like Zen?" He said in a said voice.
"No sweetheart, Zenaka's an airbender like daddy and Rinzin." Lin was the first to say out loud what they had all been thinking.
"'Ecial? Like Dada, 'in'in 'nd 'ndpa?"
"Special, like all of you are," Tenzin didn't want any of his children to feel they weren't special just because they weren't airbenders. He knew Kya and Bumi held some resentment towards him because their father did spend more time with him because he was an airbender.
"But I nos bends, I no 'ecial," it was true Kuzon hadn't shown any bending of any element, but Kaian hadn't started till he was almost two so maybe he would be an earthbender.
"That's okay Kuzon, maybe you'll be an earthbender like mama and us," Raiden said to him trying to make his littlest brother feel better.
"No fire'ender, like me!" Iroh said, not wanting to be the only firebender of his cousins.
"Or water like your gran-gran," Aang said to his youngest grandson. They all nodded in agreement, in true anyone of Lin and Tenzin's children had the possibility of being able to bend any element.
"I 'ecial?"
"Ku 'pecial like me!" Zenaka said as she extended her arms wanting to hug her brother. Their parents brought them together and Tenzin held the both of them as they hugged. The rest of the family smiled at the twins interacting.
Zenaka was indeed special for being an airbender but her family had no idea how special she was or how special her twin or cousin's Katara and Iroh were. They would find out in a few days' time how special she truly was.
"Come on sweetheart, copy daddy and Rinzin, like this," he and Rinzin were doing a simple stance and movement. They had been doing it for about twenty minutes but the one year old couldn't do it and she hated it.
Zenaka did the stance and motion but nothing happened and she was getting frustrated. She did it again several times as fast as she could but still nothing. She did it one more time and fell, but she didn't cry. She was mad and looked just like her mother.
"Daddy, I can't! I no airbender!" She said as her brother picked her up.
"It's okay Zena, we can try later," Rinzin didn't know why his father was trying to teach her. He didn't have any formal lessons from him or his granda until he was three.
"Dad! There's a phone call for you!" Raiden yelled as he come closer to them from inside the house.
"Very well, Rinzin please keep trying with her." He hopped it wasn't the council needing him for something irreverent.
"Hey Rin, wanna spar for a bit," Raiden had recently learned seismic sensing but it was still difficult he thought it would be good practice for him since Rinzin was so light on his feet like their father and granda.
"Sure, Zena stay here and watch me okay?" He knew his little sister was smart. She nodded knowing that she wasn't supposed to move in case she got hurt.
The twins bowed to each other before taking a stance. Raiden made the first move sending a large slab of wall towards his twin. Rinzin easily evaded it by shooting up in the air and send a blast of air towards Raiden. Raiden dug his heel in the ground to stop himself.
Zenaka felt Raiden stomp on the ground, creating a pillar. She felt him cutting the pillar into disks and shooting towards Rinzin. Rinzin blow them away but hadn't notice that one was making its way towards his baby sister.
"Zenaka!" Raiden shouted causing Rinzin to look towards her just as the disk was about to hit her. Zenaka just stared at the disk remembering how Raiden had moved, hard and fast so she did just that.
The disk was shot back in the direction of Rinzin which Raiden stopped. The elder twin quickly looked at his brother, who was just as dumbfounded as he was.
"Raiden, did you shot back the disk," the both the knew the answer was going to be but they didn't want to believe in the impossible. Raiden didn't want to answer either.
"Zena can you blow like when you make a birthday wish," the little girl nodded at her brothers before drawing in a breath and blowing it toward both of them. It was a relief to Rinzin when he felt his hair and clothes move.
"Zenaka look at this," Raiden had handed her his space bracelet. She had seen him and Kaian making all kinds of weird shapes with it but right now it was a just circular. She tried putting it on her wrist but it was too big so she squished it so it could fit better. To her brothers surprise she was able to bend it to fit on her wrist.
"Look! Rai! I fit it better!" The one year old was so proud of herself that she was able to make the bracelet do what she wanted that she wasn't aware that she had just done the impossible. Neither one of them knew what to say but lucky they didn't have to.
"Rinzin! Raiden! Come inside," they each grabbed their sister's hand before heading inside.
"Don't say anything to dad, not until we know for sure or talk to granda, alright," Raiden didn't want to his parents especial his father if it was all a fluke, but he knew it wasn't.
A/N: It's been a long time since I updated this but I was focused on other things but got stuck so I came back to this. I'm already working on the next two chapters but who knows when I'll finish those.
