Chapter 11: Lurking In The Dark
Tina groaned and raised her head slowly. Her bed sheets were ruffled and bunched up quite carelessly and messily. Using her paws to heave herself off the bed, the dragoness landed on the floor shakily. No wierd dreams. Huh.
A note was taped to her door:
Gone out for a little bit. Working at shop and welding your new armour. Be back soon, promise.
Love me or hate me, Xander.
(PS- See what I did there?)
Tina rolled her eyes in partial amusement. Was there any male dragon with brains? Or perhaps, a scrap of common sense? Probably not, in the terms of most likely. She snatched a quick glance at her clock. Only 7:47. Their shouldn't be anything exciting, after all, it is Saturday. Tina stumbled out of the room. Real smooth, Tina. Swag. She snorted to herself.
"Look who's up!"
She grimaced. Of all the people to wake up to in the morning, it had to be the pesky little bug. The glowing little dragonfly buzzed down the hall happily.
"Good morning, parasite" she tried to suck in a growl.
Sparx gave her that annoying Sir Sarcasm look again and replied hastily, "Aren't you a ray of sunshine today?"
Tina snarled and batted him away, then retorted, "Said by the whiny one. Please, buzz off before I'm tempted to bite you."
The stuckup glow stick muttered something that sounded like "Fine" then floated down the hall.
Ugh, She thought, Where is the food?
Before embarking on her journey to find a succulent meal, Tina stole a hasy glance at the note. She decided to leave it, and close and lock the door. Not many dragons were in the halls, but whe their were, they pushed themselves against the other side of the foyer when they saw her padding gingerly down the path. She locked herself in thought for the rest of the walk.
It's okay if they don't like me, right? I mean, I have Spyro and Cynder with me.
Or do you?
Who are you?
You'll find out. Soon. Hahaha.
While she pondered about the mysterious voice, a dragonet bumped into her paws. She looked down. A blue-yellow girl was in the nook of her paws, and looked up at her with electric lemon eyes. The poor child let out an "Eeep" of surprise then shrank back. Tina leaned down to eye level with her.
"Hello. What's your name, little one?" she murred as soft as possible.
"E-electrica," the lightning dragon whimpered.
Tina replied "That's a pretty name. I'm Tina. Where's your parents?"
Electrica started tearing up. "That's the problem! I can't find them!" The dragonet started crying.
"Shhh, don't worry," Tina hated seeing kids cry, "we can find them. Let's go look in the breakfast hall, away were I'm going?"
"B-but, m-mommy and dady t-told me not to talk to s-strangers."
"It's alright, I can help!"
"They also told me you're a b-bad dragon." The toddler sniffed.
Tina gritted her teeth at this remark. That was not true. They are lying. She pushed away her anger and tried to soothe her.
"I promise I'm not bad. If you let me help, I'll find them."
"O-okay."
The purple dragoness grabbed Electrica's paw and speed walked through the corridor. "So, what do your parents look like?" she asked, looking for a target.
The girl brightened up and told her, "Mommy's an ice dragon, and Daddy's an electric dragon."
"So where were you last?"
"At the hall to breaky."
She smiled on the inside at the kids choice of words. Turning another round, Tina abruptly stopped. Two great doors were positioned in front of her. The magnificent sight stretched up to the ceiling, a fancy look that would certainly turn heads. Electrica squealed and started bouncing around.
Tina laughed, "Come here you," and picked the dragonet up on her back.
The dining hall was huge, to put it in simple terms. The Guardians and Warfang's heroes were at the head of the table, and then many races branched from that point. Moles clustered together, dragons were spread across the room, and one cheetah with a red cloak and hood lurked beside the Guardians.
Her precious cargo giggled, "Mommy!", then hopped down to great her mother. A light blue ice dragoness snapped her head around to face the sound source. Her dark eyes melted when she saw a little child running towards her.
She gushed, "Awww, sweety, where were you? How did you find us? From now on you are never leaving my sight again!"
Electrica looked ready to bubble over with excitement. "My new friend helped me! She's over there! Can the nice dragon eat with us, please Momma?"
She pointed a skinny claw in Tina's direction. Her mothers face paled and she had responded, "Ahh, no dear. We can't eat with strangers."
The unphased girl waved her paw merrily as the ice dragon picked her up, "Bye bye, Ti-na!"
Her insides were warmed at the sweet gesture and a female voice beckoned her.
"Tina, over her!" a familiar ebony dragoness hollered.
Cynder sat beside Spyro with their tails entwined with each others. When she passed Spyro, a shadow flickered his gaze and his smile faltered. What's wrong with him?
Flashback
Spyro's P.O.V.
Spyro and Cynder walked down the hallway, moonlight illuminating their scales as they left the ruckus of the party behind them. They both decided to leave the fun and go somewhere private due to a certain pink pest. A pair of doors opened up silently leading towards the garden. Wind swished through the lavander and sage blossoms, tickling the couple's noses.
"I love you," Spyro sighed.
"Not as much as I love you." an beautiful ebony dragoness stared back at him.
Silence encased them in a cocoon of bliss and peace. Another swish of the foliage was heard, though this time not caused by wind. A cloaked figure was quickly bounding down to the entry of the Temple.
"Who goes there?" Spyro demanded, Cynder perked her head up.
The character turned around and removed is hood, reveling a dashing cheetah with bright blue-green eyes.
"Ahh, Spyro, long time no see."
Both dragons sucked in their breath and asked "Hunter?"
The biped cheetah nooded his head and told them, "Quick, come with me. No questions. We're meeting the Guardians right now."
The two heroes stole a glance and quickly swooped down the hill after him. Hunter lead the duo straight to the Pool of Visions. Spyro had an uneasy feeing in his gut as they walked into the room. I don't like where this is going... All of the Guardians were positioned around the room in their designated places underneath the symbolic flags. The fire dragon was missing, and it hit him harder than Malefor ever could.
"Why have you summoned me?" Hunter spoke up.
Cyril faced him and his eyes grazed over the purple and ebony dragons. "I have brought you here at the darkest of times. A shadow is rising, and the pool has a fearful theory of who it is."
All of the others had their heads bowed and shoulders squared, looking up occasionaly with stormy eyes.
"Who is it?" asked a puzzled Spyro.
Terrador grumbled "See for yourself," and Spyro nodded then touched his nose to the pool.
An icy cold over took his body as he fell through an eternal black that swallowed his soul in one piece, promising no escape. It was suffocating, taking the breath out of him with no force. Spyro landed on an unforeseen floor and one light was seen ahead of him. It grew, grew, until the heat was unberable. He shut his dilated pupils and only dared open it a minute later. The landscape in front of him was brutal.
The Earth was scuffed and charred, leaving harsh, unhealed marks in the aftemath. Two armies marched towards eachother, feet pounding on the ground.
A voice growled in his ear, making him jump, "It's your time to die." That voice. It was too familiar. It was Tina.
Spyro gased and tore his head away from the green pool.
Cyril looked sadly up at him. "You saw. Didn't you?"
The purple dragon nodded his head slowly, his discovery left him speechless.
Hunter stared a the Guardians and demanded "What happened? Tell me what you saw now."
Cyril, too bummed out to question his authority, as Spyro told everything to the waiting figures. The war, Tina's voice, the charred land.
After the informitave speech, Terrador stepped forward once again and looked at his cheetah counterpart, "We need you to help organize the army. It's our only hope."
He nodded and stated, "I'll be here first thing in the afternoon to plan." Wih a nod and a flash of a cloak, he was gone.
Sights were the set on Spyro and Cynder. "I expect you to be there too," Terrador glanced down, "we will need your insight on Tina. You're dismissed."
The pair made it back to their den in silence until Cynder spoke up, "So, Tina, huh? Shocker."
Spyro replied, "Yeah. I guess so. I never thought that if there was going to be a new Dark Master, it would be her. Dark Mistress in this case."
She laughed half-heartedly, "If there's a war, just hope it's not as bad as last time."
Oh please not like last time.
Yeah, more words! So proud of myself! Wooh, so, was it good? Eh, or blech? Totally AMAZING?! Just like me!
Tina: Not.
Me: What the...? How did you get here?
Tina: Portal *shrugs*
