Clary had a feeling something was wrong when Jace arrived extra early for work Monday morning. In fact, he was a whole hour and a half earlier. Suspiciously, she whirled around in her chair. The force of Jace's stare nearly knocked her out of her chair. It was full of male dominance and the intent from their last…encounter wasn't the tiniest bit diminished. He grinned, slow and hard. Clary's stomach turned into mush, and that quickly, she wanted him. He turned around, and turned the lock on the door.
Click.
She was now in a locked room. Alone with Jace. She didn't dare let her mind wander.
Of course he did. In three big strides he'd closed the distance between them and was already all over her, his mouth dominating hers, his tongue swiping over her bottom lip, pushing to be let through. She let him on, only to grab onto the base of his neck, thrusting her fingers into his hair to pull him in, eliminating the rest of the space between their bodies, so that they touched at several strategic places. Jace kissed down her neck, sucking hard enough to draw a shaky moan from Clary. When she did, he bit down. She screamed, biting down on her lip to stifle it, and her thighs clenched around him. He made a growling noise in the back of his throat, and his hand, which had been resting on her waist, slid cleverly under her shirt and glided along her soft belly. She sucked in a breath, and pushed his hand off.
"Still denying?" Jace smirked. "You know you want it as bad as I do."
"We're at work, Jace."
"So at your house then?"
Clary glared. Jace grinned. He sunk down into his chair and propped his feet on the desk. "Speaking of work, Clary, we need to edit those rules we've got on clients."
She nodded. Because if any of the female clients even eyed Jace, she was going to kick ass.
"First of all," Jace said, "you are to never ever kiss them." He glared at her, and they both knew why as they thought of Eric. "Are we clear?"
"You can't go sticking your fingers in anyone's pants."
"And you can't give them handjobs. Or touch their legs. Or hell, just don't go near men at all." He thought for a minute. "Unless that man is me."
"Ditto."
Jace raised an eyebrow. "Ditto? As in the Pokemon? And you say I'm childish!"
"There is nothing wrong with Pokemon!"
Dammit. A secret revealed.
Jace nodded sarcastically. "Mhmmm." Clary kicked him in the shins, and he howled. Which was cut short as soon as the doorknob shook. Someone was trying to get it.
They shared a quick glance, before Clary opened the door. It was Jocelyn.
Oh, God.
The CEO raised her eyebrows, glancing from her to Jace and back again, trying to decipher what had been going on. Jace stared levelly back. "Clary," Jocelyn said slowly.
Please – no. Don't say it. Don't say anything about me and Jace. Don't ask.
"Will you come to my office with me?"
Oh, shit.
She casted a scared look at Jace, who looked only slightly disturbed, before following Jocelyn. Stupid idiot. He wasn't the one who was going to be busted. Her stomach twisted in knots as each step brought them closer and closer to the destination.
Inside, she was surprised to find Luke already lounging in a chair. Jocelyn waited until Clary was in, and then she locked the doors.
Uh…
"Clary," she said, coming around to sit in her chair. Clary gulped. "We have something to show you." Unconsciously, Clary let out the breath she'd been holding. "This new product here is called Hell's Loose. It's a new antiviral protection software that SAI has been conducting undercover. We want you to sell it to other clients, but in secret, because we don't want MC to know."
"Wait," Clary said. "So you've created this to knock down Demon Spray. We're sabotaging MC." Somehow, that didn't feel right.
"Yeah," Luke confirmed.
"Basically, what we want you to do is to keep selling Demon Spray like nothing is wrong." Jocelyn stared intently into Clary's eyes. "We need to keep this undercover. Meanwhile, you and many others will also be selling Hell's Loose to other clients. This way, we'll earn double the cash."
But this was her boss, and she had to do what her boss commanded her to do. "Alright," Clary agreed, ignoring the small part of her mind that protested. "I'll do it."
Jocelyn smiled. "Wonderful."
…
Jace knew that when Clary came back to the office, he'd be gone for lunch already with Sebastian. He hoped that nothing terribly bad happened to her, because Jocelyn was scary. She freaked the hell out of him.
He breathed in deeply as he strided into MC. God, it'd been forever since he'd last set foot in the place. Calla, the lounge receptionist, smiled and waved at him. "Welcome back, Jace."
He flashed a smile, and, squaring his shoulders, proceeded to the cafeteria to buy food.
He'd just placed a huge forkful of salad on his plate when a hand clamped down on his shoulder. "Hey, Seb."
"My man," Sebastian grinned. "Long time no see."
"Yup," Jace agreed. "Let's eat."
No sooner had they sat down did Sebastian begin to question Jace. About Aline. Jace groaned inwardly. Spending some quality time with Sebastian? Impossible.
"What about her?"
"Is she or Clary better?"
He choked on his Coke. "What?"
Sebastian sent him an exasperated look. "You know, in bed."
"Uh…"
Sebastian chomped down on his burger, the ketchup dripping onto the plate in a weird smiley face shape. "Oh, right," he managed to say around a mouthful of food. Jace grimaced. "How could I forget? You said so long ago that you'd never want Clary. Eating your words now, aren't you, Wayland?"
If he didn't deny it, he'd never hear the end from Sebastian. Never.
"Yeah, right," he forced himself to scoff. "I still haven't found anything special in her yet."
His buddy chuckled. "Damn. Since when were your standards so high. Man, Shadowhunter Academy Inc has some of the hottest chicks in Manhattan, and you just pass 'em right up. If I were you, I'd have been laid a hundred times by now."
Jace worked up a mouthful of food so he didn't have to reply. It was weird. Since when had Sebastian become like this?
"You still working the Charm?" Sebastian asked.
Jace sent him a wicked smile. "Oh, yeah. All the time, every customer."
Sebastian leaned in close. "What about Jocelyn? Tried it on her yet?"
He burst out laughing, his Coke spraying all over the table. Sebastian joined him a second later.
This was what it was supposed to be like, Jace thought.
…
"Where were you?" Clary questioned as soon as Jace walked in. He strode nonchalantly to his seat, sitting down in it before turning to her. Her eyes zeroed in on a huge, brown stain in his blue shirt. "And what is that?"
Jace narrowed his eyes, pulling on his jacket in a swift motion. "I spilled some Coke."
"Well, good for you," she snickered. "It just looks so gorgeous."
He rolled his eyes.
"No seriously," Clary continued, "where were you?"
"Eating lunch with Seb."
"Until six? Bullshit."
Jace cracked a smile. "Aren't you glad I came back to work though? Normally, I'm gone by four."
"Well," Clary began. "The reason I waited for you today is because I kinda need a ride home. Magnus left early for a date."
Jace laughed. "So that's the reason why you looked so eager to see me. For a minute, I thought it was actually me that made you happy."
Clary paled a little. But it is you who makes me happy. Can't you see?
"Fortunately," he continued, oblivious to her state, "I've planned a little something. Originally, I was going to kidnap you, but now, it'll go perfectly." He winked, and Clary blushed, as she always did when he winked.
He pushed away from the desk and picked up his briefcase. "I'm dying in here. Care to go?"
She grabbed her purse. "Lead the way, Wayland."
He saluted her.
…
"This is what you were planning?" Clary shouted over the pounding music of the club. They were seated at a small table, sipping margaritas, and every time a waitress passed by them, she had to sit on her hands to refrain from punching their eyeballs out of the sockets. The girls were even worse. Especially the stripper dancers.
"What?" Jace grinned, and his teeth glinted in the darkness. "Here," he stopped a passing waitress, who giggled, grabbed two shot glasses off the tray, and handed one to Clary. He clinked his with hers. "Cheers."
"I thought those were for wine glasses." But she tipped her head back and downed it in one gulp.
The effects were immediate. Besides the stinging taste, she immediately felt relaxed and happy. Jace just seemed so inviting and hot and dark and sexy sitting right in front of her. She smiled dreamily, and Jace slowly smiled back, suddenly pushing out of his chair and grabbing her hand.
She followed him eagerly onto the dance floor, into the pack of grinding people. She moved her hips to the beat, her eyelashes lowering and her arms rising. Then strong hands grasped her hips, locking her to him. His thighs were pressed up against hers, her whole back pressed to his front, and they were moving together, going all the way down and up again, grinding together oh-so-slowly as the song turned into a darker, slower, tantalizing tune. She gasped at the feeling, at how good he felt and how good he was at controlling her. She pressed harder against him, moving her hips as they went down again for another ride, and he responded immediately. Her hands slid up and behind to twine around his neck, and he ducked his head, his cheek pressed to hers, his hair falling lightly on her shoulders.
God, he made her so hot. Faster than any other man had ever made her.
She gripped his shoulders and raked her nails down his back. Jace jerked, groaning, and then closed the distance between them, and as they danced together, it was like they were trying to mold into one being. The lust swirling around them was almost unbearable, making her go crazy with wanting. But this was in public. The alcohol hadn't made her lose her inhibitions…yet.
A nasty comment from a stranger brought her back to her senses. "Get a room."
Jace grinned at her, and winking, pointed to the back room.
Oh hell, no.
With the alcohol still pounding in her system, she grabbed the front of his shirt, and reeled him into her and deeper into the dance floor, where it was even more crowded. Jace was caught off guard and she laughed, hooking her fingers in his belt loops and swinging her hips to match his.
His face was shadowed, much like the night of their first kiss, and his eyes glowed with unmasked desire as they looked appraisingly over her body. She lowered her eyelashes, blushing.
By the time they stumbled out, both of them were sweating and tired, but Clary had a smile stretching from ear to ear. She sneaked a peek at Jace, who couldn't seem to erase his smile either.
It was pitch black outside.
Clary smiled lazily up at Jace, and reached across the console to flick a stray piece of hair out of his eyes. Her heart jumped as Jace leaned over, giving her a slow, possessive kiss, his hand trailing lightly over her cheekbones, his tongue darting into her mouth.
He pulled back just a fraction of an inch, eyes heavy-lidded, and the corner of his lips turned up as she let him claim another unprotested kiss.
Then her phone buzzed with a new text message.
Izzy.
Clary groaned, knocking her head against the dashboard. It was Girl's Night Out.
"She is going to kill me."
Just to clarify, if you remember, from like earlier chapters, there were these two people, a man and a woman, who were like contemplating an "evil" thing to destroy someone or some people. Well, those two were Jocelyn and Luke and they were making Hell's Loose and their victim was Morgenstern Circle.
