Pokemon Platinum
Chapter 11: My Luka Fights a Rival
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE GYM LEADER ISN'T HERE!?" I cover my ears as Paul explodes. The man before us grimaces.
"She's out at the moment on break..." Paul huffs, and stalks away. I follow him.
"STOP FOLLOWING ME!" he snaps. I frown.
"If she isn't there right now, then I was thinking of going to the department store nearby," I state. He stops in his tracks.
"You can't go there," he says.
"Why not?" I inquire.
"Because I'M going there now to buy supplies so YOU need to go somewhere else."
…
"I honestly don't know how I got into this situation." I turn back to Paul. He's carrying all my supplies is shopping bags. I turn.
"Lucas and Barry always did this for me, which you should too," I state simply. "It is a citizen's job to listen to me." Paul scoffs.
"What?!" We check out at the last store, and I point in the direction of the pokemon center.
"Hand all those items to Nurse Joy so she may hold them for me while I battle Maylene," I state. Paul stares at me. I walk away as he stalks to the pokemon center.
Heading for the gym, I enter again, and the man from before leads me into a large room with the battlefield in the center.
"Hello challenger!" a girl with pink hair calls from the other side of the room. "Are you ready for a battle?" I nod.
"Yes."
"Great! Go put on a uniform then," she says. I blink.
"Excuse me?"
"You didn't think that our pokemon would be the only ones battling, now did you?" she asks. "As a fighting gym leader, I take pride in battling with my opponent myself so that my pokemon aren't the only ones fighting for their honor!" I blink.
"Okay..."
…
I'm in a uniform exactly like Maylene's, except it's gray, and I wonder how we're going to battle each other.
"Send out your first pokemon!" the judge calls.
"Monferno!" I shout.
"Meditite!" Maylene shouts, and throws her pokemon hard.
"Battle begin!" Maylene runs at me, and I barely trip to get out of the way as she swings her leg out in a roundhouse kick.
"Monferno, Fire Punch!" I shout, then roll away from Maylene's ax kick.
"Meditite, Drain Punch!"
"Dodge it!" Monferno uppercuts Meditite in the jaw, before swinging away from the Drain Punch.
"Use Psychic!" "Flamethrower!" The Psychic pushes the flame back onto Monferno, who howls.
"Monferno!" I shout. "Dig!" Maylene swings a punch at me, and I actually manage to block it. Monfero dives into the ground, before coming up and knocking Meditite into the opposite wall.
"Stop! Meditite has fainted! One minute break!" Maylene walks away from me, and wipes the sweat from his face.
"Monferno, return," I say. I take a sip of water just as we're called back into the fight.
"Second round! Battle begin!"
"Machoke, fighting stance now!" Maylene shotus, and sends out her next pokemon.
"Staravia," I say. "GO!" This time I'm ready for Maylene, and crouch down low as she approaches, and sweep her feet out from below her, and she crashes to the ground. But since she is trained in martial arts, she bounces off the ground almost as soon as she touches it.
"Staravia, Aerial Ace!"
"Machoke, Seismic Toss!" Staravia slams into Machoke, who takes damage, but grabs it, and leaps into the air, before throwing the bird into the floor.
"Staravia, get up!" I call, as I get clipped by Maylene's crescent kick, and fall to the ground. Staravia struggles to its feet, before starting to glow. My eyes widen, and everyone stops moving. The white light flashes, and a new pokemon stands there.
"Staraptor!" it calls.
"You evolved!" I exclaim. "BRAVE BIRD!"
"STARRR!"
"Machoke, use Cross Chop!" Both attacks hit each other at the same time, and the two pokemon fall over, exhausted.
"Double knock out!" the judge calls. "One minute break!" I return my pokemon.
"You evolved into Staraptor," I say before putting it away. "Excellent battle." Maylene pulls out her last pokemon.
"You ready for this?" she asks. "The both of us won't fight this time. Go Lucario!"
"Monfer-!" I start, but Luka jumps out of her pokeball.
"Luka?" I say in confusion. She stares at out opponent. I blink.
"You want to be the one to take down that Lucario..." I murmur. "Alright, let's go." Luka stands in a defensive stance.
"Aura Sphere!" Maylene shouts.
"Dodge and use Bone Rush!" I say. Luka is a lot faster than the other Lucario, and slams her bone into the opponent's jaw.
"Lucario!" Maylene exclaims. "Close Combat!"
"Dragon Pulse!" I say. Luka zips around the field like a lightening bolt, and sends the pulsing ball of light into Lucario's face.
"Lucario!" Maylene shouts as it hits the ground. "Don't give up your fighting spirit! Use Force Palm!"
"Extreme Speed and Aura Sphere!" I call. Lucario runs forward with its paw ready, but Luka dodges with Extreme Speed, then slams Aura Sphere into Lucario's back from behind. There's a blast of dust, and I see Lucario on the ground, unconscious with Luka standing up above it.
"Lucario has fainted, the victory goes to Dawn and her Lucario!" Maylene returns her pokemon, then stares at me.
"Wow, I haven't had anyone beat me in forever!" she says happily. "Finally a worthy opponent!" She walks over and whips out an object before holding it out as if she were shooting an Aura Sphere.
"You earned it! The Cobal Badge!" she says, and I pluck it from her hands before depositing it in my badge case. I bow.
"Thank you for the battle," I say. Maylene smiles and pets Luka's head. "It was a pleasure! I loved battling your tough Luka! Now it makes me want to train harder than ever!" With that, she runs off, and starts doing clap push ups. With her school of trainees.
I change from my uniform and into my regular clothes.
…
I'm walking down the streets of Veilstone, and memorizing all the data I collected from Maylene's pokemon, when someone crashes into me, and my pokedex slips out of my hands.
"Whoops!" a mean voice says. "Sorry! Looks like it's finders keepers!" I look up and see a Galactic grunt.
"Hey! Give me back my pokedex!" I exclaim. I give chase, but to no avail. Panting, I stop, and bump into Paul.
"If I have to see your face again-" he stops abruptly when he sees my expression. My jaw is trembling, and I don't understand why my eyes are tearing up. Suddenly, my body feels weak, and I tip over.
"Woah!" Paul exclaims, and catches me just in time.
"What's wrong?" he asks, a bit confused. "Did something happen?" I blink, and manage to stand up while Paul holds my arm to keep me steady.
"Team Galactic stole my pokedex," I say. "And I suddenly was hit with a wave of weakness..." Paul lets go of my arm.
"Are your pokemon tired from battling Maylene, aren't they?" I nod.
"Then I guess you're useless," he states. "I'll only get your pokedex back because it is a useful tool to tell if a pokemon is strong, or weak." He walks off in the direction I pointed, and I follow close behind. Near a large warehouse, I see the two grunts grinning at each other.
"Torterra, battle station," Paul says. "Leaf Tornado!" The grunts turn just in time too see a wall of leafs coming their way.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" The two grunts land inside of a warehosue. Something pink flies out from their hands before they do, and the last of the leaf tornado carefully carries it to me. Leafs fall down around me in a shower, and a few land in my hair. Paul scoffs, and knocks the leafs from my head before turning to Torterra.
"Control you moves better," he commands, before returning his pokemon to his pokeball. I look at him.
"Umm," I start.
"What?"
"Thank you very much," I say, and bow.
Suddenly, a man in a brown trench coat appears.
"Have no fear!" he exclaims. "I have come running!" Paul stares at him.
"I heard that children where feuding with Team Galactic and came here to help!"
"You're the idiotic child here," Paul mutters.
"You're the funny man from Jubilife," I say to myself, before looking down at some interesting looking cracks in the asphalt.
"You insult me to my face? And ignore me? Pay attention! How uncouth of you! But no matter, I need to investigate their warehouse, com with me!" He drags us both into a building.
"Let me go, you are invading my personal space."
We stop in front of an electric door that refuses to open.
"It looks like we need a key! An electronic key!" Looker states.
"Duh," Paul grumbles.
"For the time being, we cannot give chase to those runaways. But I have heard that they are up to something near Pastoria! What they are up too, I don't know, but I have a feeling that they are up to no good!" Looker stops talking and sits down to think. Paul scoffs, and turns to leave.
"I'm going to battle Maylene now, go to the pokemon center so you're out of everyone's way. And I think you should stay away from this loser in a trench coat." I blink, and smile.
"See you later Paul!" He ignores me, and disappears. I head towards the pokemon center, and hand my pokemon in to rest.
…
"Can I see your gym badge?" I ask.
"No," Paul replies. "Maylene was a pathetic gym leader who couldn't even defeat one of my pokemon." I frown.
"I thought she was a great gym leader." Paul looks away, showing he doesn't care what my opinion is. I sigh.
Suddenly, my feet sink into the ground. I yelp loudly.
"A marsh!?" I exclaim.
Yay! Another chapter completed! And I really need to hurry to get to a "certain" chapter. ;) Sorry it was short. :(
