This is (what I call) a humanoid animal version of Sonic.
Meaning that the characters are in human form but are still kinda considered animals.
The main characters are Shadow, my OC Melody (Irama), and Rouge,
they are the ones telling this story.
I hope that you readers will enjoy this story.
I'll do my best to stick to the original feel for the characters.
WARNING: This story is Rated M for sexual content, adult themes, language and violence (mostly Shadow and a little Rouge)
And so on to the story.
Rouge
Chapter 11: Why Did This Happen?
As Rouge landed in front of her house she couldn't help but feel regret about leaving Melody alone while she was gone and then not doing anything about Eggman when she was right there.
Rouge was about to enter through the oak doors when she saw a light much like a shooting star. But it was the middle of the day noway there was a shooting star right now.
Before Rouge could even process the sight, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Rouge turned quickly to see Shadow.
"Shadow? What are you doing here? Where is Melody?" Rouge asked.
"I was about to ask you the same thing." Shadow answered.
"What do you mean?" Rouge said narrowing her eyes. "From what you said it sounded like you were going to take care of things."
"That was the plan but Melody got the wrong idea. She ended up mad and disappeared along with the Chaos Emeralds." Shadow explained.
"You are going to have to explain things better, later." Rouge said. "But for now let's find her."
Rouge and Shadow took off and looked around for their friend but she was nowhere to be seen. Rouge's anger toward Shadow grew and now not only was she blaming herself but him as well.
"All this stress is not good for my skin." Rouge said rubbing her cheek. "Where could she have gone?"
"If she used the Chaos Emeralds like that then she could be anywhere." Shadow sighed.
"Hold on, she used the Chaos Emeralds?" Rouge asked.
"That what I said before." Shadow huffed.
"Could it be that Melody was the shooting star that I saw earlier." Rouge inquired.
"Shooting star?"
"Yeah, it just shot across the sky in broad daylight." Rouge explained.
"Show me where it went." Shadow asked.
"Fine, follow me." Rouge flew off in the direction which she saw the light.

Shadow followed Rouge but just couldn't slow down enough to where Rouge could point him in the right direction. Before long Shadow was out of Rouge's sight.
He kept moving and looked all over the forest. But Melody was nowhere to be seen.
Dammit, where did that girl go?
"Melody!"
Shadow screamed her name in hopes for an answer. He waited in silence. Then he heard muffled crying. Shadow immediately headed for the noise.
When he can to a clearing he saw her. Melody sat on the edge of a steep cliff; crying. Her long lavender hair blow in the harsh wind at rouse from the drop-off. She sat there and cried, never noticing Shadow. So he approached her slowly.
"What do you want?" Melody voice sounded broken.
"I came to find you." Shadow answered.
"Why? You hate me, so why do you care?" Melody asked.
"Cause … I believe I've just been in denial. Almost like I didn't want to accept that maybe I was forgetting about Maria." Shadow tried to explain. But Melody had taken his words in the wrong way before. So Shadow was trying to choose his words carefully.
"Are you sure it's not just cause you want me to remind you of her."
Melody had never sounded so cold and angry before. Shadow almost couldn't believe it was Melody at all.
"That's not it."
"But I'm just in the way, right?" Melody said coldly.
"I attacked our friends and was willing to do whatever Eggman said, just to protect you." Shadow snapped.
"Because you promised Maria. You promised you would protect me and be my friend." Melody sighed.
"Did I? Was I your friend? Frankly even right now, I find you troublesome and annoying." Shadow stated.
Melody turned to face him, anger and tears in her eyes. "Why do you constantly … what?"
Melody stopped her sentence short because when she turned to Shadow she noticed something about Shadow she didn't notice before. Shadow was still wearing the blue cloth around his arm.
Shadow saw her eyes fixed on his arm and looked. He had been wearing the cloth so long that he actually forgot about it. When Shadow looked back to Melody her face was still sad but her anger seemed to disappear.
"I wanted to protect you. During my travel all I ever thought about, dreamed about was you. Sometimes I could even hear your voice calling to me." Shadow explained. "My memories of you are what made me feel like I wasn't alone."
"How … how can I believe you?" Melody responded.
"That's your choice. I'm not going to make you." Shadow held out his hand, "Let's just go home."
Melody sat for a moment then stood up. As she turned she smiled at Shadow.
"I believe you, Shadow."
Suddenly the ground under Melody began to crack and crumble. Shadow ran to her but he was to late. Melody fell from the cliff.
"Melody!" Shadow leaped off the cliff after her.
He reached for her but he couldn't get to her in time. And she hit the ground. Shadow landed on his feet and went to Melody. He lifted her head carefully and felt something warm. He pulled his hand away and saw red.
"She's bleeding."
Shadow leaned down to hear if she was breathing. She was. Shadow tore his jacket sleeve off and wrapped it gently around Melody's head. Then he slowly lifted her up.
"Don't worry. You'll be okay, Melody. I'll make sure of that." Shadow said as he walked with her in his arms.
Shadow had to find a way back to the higher level of ground. He didn't want to make Melody's condition worse by running and jumping.
Dammit, why did this happen?
"Shadow!" called a voice. " Where are you?"
"Rouge, we're down here." Shadow called out.
Suddenly Rouge appeared and swooped down. She saw Melody unconscious and her head wrapped in Shadow's torn sleeve.
"What the hell happened to her?!" Rouge snapped.
"She fell off the cliff up there." Shadow motioned to the cliff that had broken away.
"Why was she there?" Rouge pondered.
"She was crying." Shadow said.
Rouge glared at Shadow then took Melody from him.
"What are you doing?" Shadow glared back.
He reached for Melody but his hand was blocked and batted away by Rouge's wing.
"Get away from her!" Rouge exclaimed in absolute fury.
"Don't tell me what to do." Shadow growled. "Give me Melody. I can carry her."
"I will take her home. You will never see her again." Rouge glared Shadow down.
"I won't let you take her away from me." Shadow hissed.
"Tough." Rouge lifted into the air. "If I ever see you near Melody again I'll end you."
As Rouge took off Shadow stared at the silhouette of Melody as it disappeared in the distance.
"Dammit!" Shadow slammed his fist into the side of the cliff. "Melody."

Rouge laid Melody in her bed and placed new bandages on her wound. She changed Melody into clean pajamas and pulled the blankets over her.
"Sleep well." Rouge smiled warmly to her hurt friend.
Rouge was going to head to her bed and lay down but she didn't feel right leaving Melody alone. What if she got worse over night? So Rouge setup a chair next to Melody's bed and watched over her for the night. Rouge was determined to stay awake however, after the day she had she didn't even notice when she fell asleep.
