Hunting Darkness (part 11)

"He's coming for you."

Caroline laughed not knowing how else to react to the situation "Good old Katherine always bringing good and cryptic messages."

Elijah just stood there, awkwardly, studying her reaction.

"So when and how, do pray tell, did she tell you this?" Caroline questioned curious, knowing full well Katherine always had a weird way to deliver messages.

Elijah considered his words carefully "She appeared to me in a dream, well, that's what I thought it was at first."

"Oh she got inside your head…you have to be careful Elijah, you don't want Katherine there. She's dangerous." she warned him, worried for his safety. Ultimately she loved them both, but knew Katherine well enough to know she was not an easy person to deal with.

"I suppose the two of you are friends…?" Elijah asked trying to find out the story behind the two older vampires.

Caroline grinned at him, understanding what he was trying to do, but she wasn't going to play along "I suppose so."

Elijah knew he wasn't getting anything out of her now so he nodded and left her room.

Caroline flopped on the bed and let out a breathless "Fuck."

"Hello, Kol."

"Darling, as always, you look completely stunning." Kol stated reaching for her hand to kiss it but Bonnie slapped his hand away.

"What do you want now?" Bonnie questioned rolling her eyes and crossing her arms in front of her chest.

Kol gasped in fake hurt "When did I ever ask anything of you?"

"Well let's just say you're very good at bothering me and if you don't stop doing it by yourself I'll make you stop it."

"Uhhh I love it when you're feisty, you rile me up and get me all tingly inside. Besides I know you wouldn't want to get on Caroline's bad side, hurting me wouldn't be a very good idea now would it?"

"Ha you can't even protect yourself? Pathetic."

"Now I'm offended, I can very well take care of myself. I just wouldn't want you to get hurt only so you can take your frustrations on me by hurting me. When we could actually be doing very enjoyable things." Kol said moving his eyebrows suggestively.

"You should know that in this situation Caroline would be on my side, yes you are her family but I've known her for a longer time, she wouldn't hurt me."

"Great to know! Oh and I guess you should also know that she now supports me in pursuing you romantically."

Bonnie scoffed "What? Like hell she did. I don't believe you."

"That's hurtful, darling. I'd never lie to you. Besides you can ask her the next time you talk to her." he smirked seductively, affecting Bonnie in a way she'd never admit to anyone.

"And Bonnie one of these days, you'll have to tell me all about your past with Caroline."

"In your dreams."

"Oh no, in my dreams there's no talking." Kol winked at her and threw her a kiss; noticing she was ready to give him a horrible headache he ran away.

"Hello there, aren't you a pretty little girl…" Caroline commented staring at the crying young girl in front of her.

Between the gasps and the sniffling the girl let out a soft whimper "Go away."

Caroline approached the girl who was on the floor, clutching a dead body in her arms. Lowering herself to her level she hugged the sad little girl, flashbacks of her powerless self attacking her.

The girl fought against her grasp but she didn't let her go, she couldn't. A heartless monster she could be, most times, but there were things that affected her.

The dead body was dropped to the floor and the child held onto Caroline, her piercing cries striking her deep in her long forgotten soul.

"It's alright honey, it's alright. You'll be fine, you're strong." Caroline tried to reassure the child holding her tighter, completely out of her element. She hadn't cared for someone in so long it was hard to do something so simple, but she had to do it for her.

"You know, I used to know your grandmother, she was a very strong and scary lady. I know you'll live up to her and until you can fend for yourself, I'll be there for you."

The small girl sniffled for the last time, silent tears running down her face she left Caroline's arms to look at her, "I know what you are."

Caroline's white teeth were in full view, a terrifying grin tugging on her lips "Good. Because I also know what you are. I know we'll get along just fine, won't we?"

"Yes."

"Are you really going after her?" a figure asked sitting on the couch, staring at the other person in the room sharpening stakes.

"Yes, I've told you before, she's the reason why we're here and she'll pay for what she did to you, to us." the black haired man answered angrily.

"I don't blame her for anything that happened to me, that's your problem. Besides isn't she stronger than you?"

"Well she might be slightly older but that doesn't mean much, I have more training than her. Also I know all her weak spots." he whispered menacingly; a terrifying grin covering his whole face.

"Don't count me in this madness, your problem you deal with it."

"THEN STOP HAUNTING ME ALREADY! You're not even really here, be gone you ghoul. Not even in my hallucinations you stand by my side."

"That's because you know me better than that and you know I'd never agree to this."

"LEAVE!" he roared, his head aching.

The figure nodded and disappeared instantly. He didn't know if it was all the alcohol he drank every single day or just because he had simply gone mad with time, but the hallucinations had been happening more frequently lately.

He laughed bitterly; the time to finally take his revenge was approaching and how sweet it would be when it came. But he wouldn't hasten it; he had all the time in the world and her death would come slowly and painfully.

"I'm coming for you Caroline, prepare to be tortured and beaten down. I will break your spirit and I will make you beg for death." the crazed man chuckled and threw a stake at his painted bullseye, hitting it right in the center.

Kol burst into her room not even knocking, "So what are you doing?"

"I'm trying to think of every single dangerous person, male, who'd have a reason to come after me."

"First on the list would have to be Nik." Kol said playfully.

"No, not really, he's not a threat to me. It has to be someone…" Caroline started but abruptly got up.

"What?" Kol questioned surprised.

"No…it can't be." she vamped off in search of the one person who'd be able to answer the riddle, she couldn't be too far. 'Katherine, where are you?'

Caroline wasn't easily scared but she knew, no, she understood the importance of being prepared. Failing was not an option; carelessness was not an option, not with him.

A/N: So did you like it? Did I make the person who's after her too obvious? lol Anyway thanks for reading :D
