Sakura: After those last few chapters, I decided to slow things down a bit and get back to the romance. Here is a little Yuugi and Yami fluff for everyone to enjoy!

Chapter Eleven

Valentine's Day

A time to cherish those you love

A month and a half later bought February, the month of love, upon the city of vampires and humans. Valentine's Day came before anyone knew it and with it a whole new feeling. Lovers walked the streets holding hands while others worked up the courage to confess their love to someone. It was a holiday most enjoyed and that also included members of the royal family.

Yuugi had not often been a fan of Valentine's Day, but that had been back when he was not married to the Vampire King. Now even after twenty years of marriage he was spoiled by a loving husband. No matter what was going on, King Yami always took time off on Valentine's Day to show his mate just how much he loved him. As soon as the holiday began to approach Yuugi prepared himself for gifts and many kisses he would receive from his King.

On Valentine's Day Yuugi awoke as normal, but what was different on that day from other days was that Yami was ready and waiting for him with breakfast in bed. He kissed Yuugi good morning, before placing the tray on his partners lap and then sliding in next to him so they could share the meal. As like all the other Valentine days Yuugi was greeted with strawberry pancakes with strawberries on top of them in the shape of a heart.

The King of the city grabbed the fork that was there using it to cut the pancake and then feed a bite to his husband. Yuugi smiled and allowed his partner to feed him. The fluffy pancake melted in his mouth and Yuugi always enjoyed the taste of fresh strawberries.

"So I'm guessing the cooks made breakfast this time?" Yuugi asked once he was finished chewing and swallowed the bite.

Yami nodded as he got another bite ready. "I was not going to attempt to use the stove after what happened last time." He said as he feed Yuugi another bite. It was the valentine of last year that Yami decided he wanted to try and cook for Yuugi which ended badly. Even with the help of one of the palace cooks, Yami managed to burn the pancakes to black disc. He could run a city, but when it came to cooking he was no chef.

"It's sweet of you to do this anyway." Yuugi said as he took the fork from his husband and started to feed him some of the pancake. "How is our day looking this morning?"

Yami finished his bite before answering. "We are completely free for the day unless an emergency comes up. I have the whole day played out for us and I'm sure you are going to love it."

"Don't I always…" Yuugi said with a grin as he leaned up to kiss his husband. It was not always on Valentine's Day that Yami and Yuugi would show each other how much they love each other, but the day of love always gave them the perfect excuse to get away from ruling the city. They could enjoy the day as a married couple with no distractions.

Once they were finished with the food, Yami grabbed the tray to set it to the side before he headed into the bathroom to draw the two of them a morning bath. Yuugi lay back down in bed for a minute while staring up at the ceiling. He was glad for the holiday because after everything that they had been put through they needed a break.

The King of vampire city and his mate had been stressed out about the attack that happened back at Christmas time. After a month of investigation there were no new leads and Yami feared that the criminal responsible would get away with it. The fact that it was a new year made it even worst, because some of the humans had left the city after the holidays if they were there for only a temporary visit. Yami could not keep all the humans locked with in the city since the king wanted to keep the attack known as an accident and not a murder until all the facts were in. He did not want to panic the vampires into thinking humans were out to get them. It had been a tough decision, but one Yami had to make. The families who had lived next to the victim were only given information just like the public that the fire had been caused by an electrical problem in the house. The victim's daughter was asked by the King to keep the details of the fire to herself and he would let her know if anything changed in the case.

Yuugi had hated that the investigation was taking so long. He and his partner wanted the person caught and justice to be served to the victim and the victim's family. The problem in their way was that it was a delicate situation and had to be checked out until they were completely sure it was a human who started the fire. The only thing they could pray for is that it was a one-time attack and that there was not someone out there killing vampires.

The smaller vampire was bought out of his thoughts when he felt his husband lift him up into his arms. He looked up at Yami who only grinned at him. "You looked lost in thought, what were you thinking about?"

Yuugi just gave Yami a smile back to calm his worry. "Nothing really, just everything that has been going on these last few months."

"I know what you mean and one day there will be justice for the victim, but for now let's enjoy the day." Yami said as he carried Yuugi into the bathroom. The King would not stop until the criminal was bought forth and tried for his crimes. However that was most likely not going to happen on Valentine's Day and the only thing the King wanted to do that day was spend time with his husband.

"You can't be serious?"

"I'm completely serious, so can we get ready to go," Yami urged his mate as he tried to pack an overnight bag. After the filling breakfast and an hour long bath, Yuugi had been informed by his husband that they were going on a small trip away from the palace.

This trip Yuugi found out was a one night stay at one of the hotels downtown. Most of the hotels built were for families who came into the city to visit friends or family. One hotel was for humans only while another hotel was for vampire and humans. Vampires were not allowed to leave the city, but that would not stop them from booking a hotel to make it seem like a vacation. It was the closet vampires could get a vacation away from home. This was the first time Yami had planned for them to be away from the palace for a night besides those few nights he had spent at Yuugi's house back when they first started dating. This year it seemed Yami wanted to completely get away from all the stress they had lately and go somewhere to where it was just him and Yuugi.

"Do the children know about this?" Yuugi questioned since he hated to just drop the news on them.

Yami nodded as he grabbed the outfit Yuugi handed him and put it in the bag. "Yes they know, because I told them yesterday. Ethan and Taylor are going to keep an eye on the younger children and before you ask the council knows only to contact me if there is an emergency."

"If you are sure about this…" The idea of being away enjoying a special day with his husband was appealing, but at the same time anything could happen to change it. They were only going to be downtown and it was not the city he was worried about, but his own children. This would be the first time Yuugi had been away from Chan and Kotaro since he started living at the palace. Kotaro still had nightmares and then there were nights when Chan would wake up because of some noise and needed the comfort of her parents. The two were able to take care of themselves, but the worry was still there.

"Yuugi stop worrying," Yami told his husband as he turned to him with the duffle bag in hand. He wrapped an arm around Yuugi and led him to the door. "I want today to be special and the only way that is going to happen is if we get away for the day. The children will be fine and the city is not going to fall apart."

Yuugi sighed as they walked through the halls headed toward the front of the palace. "I know but I'm always going to worry. I mean the children are grown, heck they are older than me, it's just this feeling that I have. After what happened on Christmas, I fear something may happen the one time we are not here." As they approached the large double doors leading out of the palace he saw all the children were there waiting on them with smiles on their faces. He began to wonder if this is how his parents felt when they left him in the care of grandpa to go on their dates. Every day Yuugi was learning something new about himself when it came to caring for his adoptive children.

Taylor took the duffle bag from his father and disappeared out the front doors to give it to their limo driver. Often times Yami hated cars even the family limo, but it seemed on this occasion he was going all out. While Taylor did that, Yuugi hugged and kissed Chan and Kotaro also telling them to be on their best behavior for their older siblings.

Yami patted Ethan on the shoulder as he watched Yuugi interact with the smaller vampires. "I'm sure you and Taylor can handle things here. We will only be a phone call away if something comes up."

Ethan rolled his eyes. "Come on dad, I think we can handle one night, besides I already let Chan and Kotaro know they can come to us in the middle of the night if they need us."

Taylor came back at that point and put his arms around both his lover and Yami. "Yeah, we got everything covered here. You go have a special day with Yuugi. We siblings are going to celebrate Valentine's Day in our own way."

Yuugi stood from his kneeling position and looked to Taylor with a stern look. "It's not only Chan and Kotaro that should be on their best behavior. You also better be good or I'll let Chloe get her hands on you and let her do whatever she wants." By those words Taylor's eyes widen as Yuugi also added, "Oh and no candy or chocolate for the two little ones before bed."

"Don't worry Yuugi I'll keep an eye on everyone." Ethan promised as he pulled Taylor away from Yami.

With those words, Yuugi grabbed the King's hand and the two headed out of the palace toward the limo. The children stayed where they were waving to their parents until the limo passed the main gates. Once the limo was not in sight, Taylor turned to his siblings.

"Now that the parents are gone for the night and I'm in charge, what should we do?"

Chan looked at her brother like he was crazy before grabbing Kotaro's hand. "We'll be in the game room if you need us." She quickly left with Kotaro in tow.

Raven wrapped her arms around Jason's left arm with a smile. "We are taking a trip down town to do some shopping. We probably won't be back until dinner, so don't wait up." She dragged Jason away while he just had this look of help me.

"Alright Mr. Boss man, I guess it's just you and me." Ethan said as he put a hand on Taylor's shoulder. "I think our room is calling your name to clean it after the mess you left yesterday looking for your favorite shirt."

Taylor gave a smile of embarrassment as he rubbed the back of his head. "But honey its Valentine's Day don't you want to do something special, like dad and Yuugi are?"

Ethan grabbed Taylor by the ear with a wicked grin on his face. "Oh it will be special once the mess is picked up." The whole way back to their room, he dragged Taylor by the ear, who hung his head in defeat. Even after hundreds of years of being together it still was easy to tell who wore the pants in that relationship.

It was thanks to the holiday when Yuugi and Yami walked into their hotel they found it packed with both humans and vampires. The lobby was full of people checking in and out, along with hotel workers trying to keep everything in order to make the guests stay a memorable one. They clearly stood out like a sore thumb as a manger came over to them with a smile on his face.

He led the pair to one of the check in desk that was not being used and typed a few things into the computer. "My King, it's an honor for us that you will be staying the night here. We have the room all set up," He handed them a key along with a small booklet. "Inside is a list of restaurants that deliver along with numbers for room service."

Yuugi took the items handed to them and thanked the manger. Once everything was good to go, they headed toward the nearest elevator and quickly boarded it before anyone else got on. The ride up no one joined them and once they reached the last floor did they get off. On the floor there were only five rooms and before Yuugi could wonder why he noticed on the wall across from the elevator a sign that read 'Honeymoon Floor'.

"You seriously booked us a honeymoon suite?"

Yami grinned at him and started to make his way down the hall toward their room. "I thought it would be romantic. Besides we can relive our wedding night if you want."

Yuugi blushed at the idea of that as he followed his husband. "If you wanted to relive that, then we would be back at the palace. I thought honeymoon suites were for newlyweds."

"Not if you are the King looking to have a romantic night with his mate." Yami pointed out as he took the key from Yuugi and unlocked their room. As they stepped inside and let the door close behind them. The two were able to get a good look at where they were staying.

The living area had a nice leather couch with two arm chairs on both sides and a decent size flat screen TV hanging on the wall. There was also a bar with a fresh stock of drinks to one corner of the room. Yuugi wondered into the next room and found the bedroom with a connecting bathroom. The bed was King size with silk sheets of red color with rose petals sprinkled all over it and the carpeted floor. Inside the bathroom was a sink and toilet along with a tub the size of a hot tub big enough to fit five people.

Yami soon joined Yuugi in the bedroom placing the bag beside the door. "So what do you think?"

"I would say it's a little much, but in a way it's sweet and romantic," Yuugi said as he turned to Yami with a smile. "I figured you would pull something like this on our anniversary not Valentine's Day."

"I have something planned for our anniversary don't you worry," Yami admitted with a smirk as he pulled Yuugi into his arms. "Now why don't we break in the bed a little?"

Before Yami could get a kiss in, Yuugi sneaked his way out of Yami's arms and headed back into the living room. He opened the booklet and found everything the manger had told them, but also found that it explained what the entire hotel had to offer. "As much as your idea is appealing, I think I would like to see what else we can do today besides staying in bed. This is the first vacation we have had in a while and I plan on enjoying it."

As much as Yami wanted to just throw Yuugi onto the bed and have his way with his mate, he knew the little one was right. He could finally relax and let the stress of the last month and a half wash away until tomorrow. "You have a point, so what are we going to do?" He asked as he looked over Yuugi's shoulder.

Yuugi grinned up at him after a while with the perfect idea in mind.

They had the whole place to themselves and that was the way Yuugi liked it. Given that the month of February there was still a chill in the air and too cold to swim, the outdoor pool to the hotel was closed to everyone. The indoor pool however was open, but way too crowded for Yuugi's taste. So Yuugi used a little bit of his power as the King's mate and talked a manger into opening the outdoor pool to them only. It was not in use and vampires did not feel the cold so it was perfect in Yuugi's eyes. It really did not make any since for the outdoor pool to be closed to vampires, but really at the moment Yuugi was not complaining.

The two dumped their towels at a nearby table and quickly jumped in. Yuugi resurfaced with a laugh as he lay out on his back to float. "It's been a while since I've had a good swim."

"Does that mean you want a pool at the palace?" Yami teased as he swam over to Yuugi.

"Only if you're offering to have one built…" Yuugi teased right back before he quickly swam away as Yami started to tickle his sides. This started a splashing fight which Yami felt like he was winning until Yuugi disappeared when his back had been turned.

"Yuugi..?" Yami called out as he looked around the clear blue water.

"Over here!" Yuugi shouted and when Yami turned around he found Yuugi on the other side of the pool getting out of the deep end and heading for the small diving board. It was only about a foot off the ground for those who hated heights. "Let's see if I can still do that cannon ball Joey taught me."

"Just be careful," Yami warned not wanting to see his partner get hurt.

Yuugi just rolled his eyes and started to bounce on the board. After the third bounce he leap off the diving board and quickly curled his legs into his chest before he hit the water with a huge splash. This caused waves to come Yami's way who was swimming in to the deep in. The King wiped the water from his eyes just in time to see Yuugi come back up laughing in joy.

The sound was like music to Yami's ears as he swam over to Yuugi and pulled him close. "I'm guessing you enjoy that?"

"Yeah that was awesome! When I hit I think I almost hit bottom with the force. How big was the wave?" Yuugi questioned wondering if he had improved since he was a child.

"It was pretty big, enough to reach me at the start of the deep end," Yami told him as the two swam over to the side and sat on the edge of the pool.

"You should have seen me when I first started to do cannon balls they were so small Joey couldn't help but laugh. He spent a week helping me work on them until I was as good as him. I think the last time I was in a pool like this was back when I was in high school and sometimes our gym teacher would give us a day in the pool during his class," Yuugi explained remembering back to his high school days. It was scary to think that happened so long ago and here he was now forever in his twenties.

"I think it would have been nice to see the place where you grew up." Yami mentioned wishing that he could have taken Yuugi on a real vacation out of the city. He missed living in Egypt's warm climates and seeing the desert sands.

Yuugi could see the look in Yami's eyes so he decided to change his husband's train of thought by kissing him. When he pulled back he smiled at him and said, "I know you have been trapped in his city for over five thousand years, but you are a great King and we have a pretty good life here. I wouldn't change anything…" He was interrupted by another kiss from his husband this one a little more heated. They wrapped their arms around each other enjoying the moment. It wasn't until the King's lips started to travel to his mate's neck, that Yuugi pulled back and grinned.

"We are out in the open where anyone could see us, let's save that for later tonight."

Yami chuckled and stole one more kiss. "I'll hold you to that." He said before jumping back in with Yuugi to continue their nice pool time. They had a whole afternoon of things to do together so the best thing to do was appreciate this time alone to the fullest.

Sakura: This chapter was not planned at all, but it came to me at random and I decided to add it. Nothing major happened, but you could say it's a small break in the main plot before the really good stuff starts to happen, which will begin in the next chapter.
