Ciel was sitting at the kitchen island studying his German. Sebastian had gotten everything worked out for him to be home schooled and managed to talk him into learning a language other than english. Since Sebastian had apparently spent time in Germany, it seemed only natural to pick something he was adequately familiar with.
He was having particular trouble with greetings as he sat there when Sebastian came back from work.
The doctor didn't work normal hours seeing as how he was a specialist who only sees male patients so he was home enough for Ciel without having his previous work hours fluctuate.
"Are you hungry?" Sebastian asked from the front hall as he took off his coat and hung it up.
"I could use a power snack. This is hard." Ciel whined as he plunked his head down on the counter.
"One's studies are often a struggle. I'll whip something up immediately. Would you like to help?" he asked as he thought to himself, 'He's so cute when he's frustrated. Agh, I need to stop thinking like this.'
"What are you planning to make?" Ciel inquired, as he had never made anything on par with his new guardian's culinary wonders. He was thinking about how he could possibly turn this into another test.
"Hmm, how about homemade granola bars with dark chocolate chips? Those are fairly easy and great for studying."
Ciel tried to ignore the lean finger pressed to the taller's mouth when in thought as he replied, "That's fine. How do you do it?" As for how to turn this into another test, he was going to push Sebastian to his limits with pretending he couldn't make food to save his life. That would certainly try his patience and show if he was the angry-snappy type.
X~X~X
A few minutes later Sebastian found himself trying not to stare at Ciel in his little apron as they started to work with all the gathered ingredients.
"What do you want me to do now?" Ciel asked after he finished digging out the vanilla extract from the baking cupboard, leaving total disaster in his wake.
"Could you preheat the oven to 350 degrees?"
"Uh, sure.. How do you do that?" Ciel was just getting started with his annoying charade.
"Well you press the bake button and use the arrows to adjust the temperature."
"How will we know when it's hot enough?"
"It will beep. When you're done could you line a sheet pan with foil?"
"Where do you keep the sheet pans?" Ciel asked with an innocent look on his face. He was actually enjoying being this agitating. Of course he knew how an oven worked. He often made meals for himself at his previous residence.
"Below the stove top, to the right."
When Ciel finished that, he hovered over where Sebastian worked and asked, "What are all these ingredients?" even though he knew them all, having been the one to get them out.
"This is a mixture of butter, honey, brown sugar, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. It will be melted down and poured into the oats." He didn't even sound the slightest but perturbed at all the questions.
Ciel watched him do precisely that and got the bowl of oats out. He figured he should ask more questions that branch off of the subject at hand so he said, "I wonder how many ways there are to cook oats, how many dishes have oats in them. Do you know, Sebastian? I've only ever had what we're making and oatmeal."
Without even a slight twitch of the eye, Sebastian answered, "Simple ingredients are the most common but can be used to make the most marvelous of dishes. I'm sure oats are capable of many things as well."
The boy continued chattering about many things and ended up only irking himself while they made a mess of the kitchen.
When they were done, Sebastian started away at the pile of dishes in the sink and Ciel sat back down at his books.
He picked up a warm granola bar and bit the tip experimentally. The sweetness of the granola was just right and the dark chocolate chips were still a bit gooey. His mouth never ceased to be amazed at how Sebastian could make even ordinary foods taste delicious.
It was a sweet defeat Ciel decided, he couldn't exactly be upset that his plan backfired. Sebastian may not have faltered, but that was a good thing and he did end up with a delectable treat.
Sebastian glanced behind where he stood at the sink to see Ciel munching happily on their creation while getting lost in thought. He couldn't possibly fight the feelings he felt at that moment and a little blush came to his cheeks from trying. His heart bubbled and for the first time he thought, 'Maybe it's not so bad if I just think of him as cute. It's not like I can help it anyway.'
That's it for this week everyone, have a nice day/night:D
I think I'll start to spice up the reviews each week with a special question starting today!
Question of the week:Is there a place you've always really wanted to go to?
I have always wanted to go to New Zealand, clear waters and soft beaches seem so perfect! I have also always wanted to spend a night in a castle although I don't know where...
