Emma's alarm went off with an annoying screech that felt like it was yanking her out of the bed. She jumped and slammed her hand on the snooze alarm and buried her head under the pillow with a groan.

Jefferson moaned and turned to kiss her shoulder, "We're on lockdown."

"Still got stuff to do, the field isn't going to water itself."

Jefferson gave a whine, "Stayyyyyyy."

"Nooooo," Emma drawled that out. And moaned when she felt his lips trailing down her back, "Behave."

"No."

"Stop tempting me!"

He rolled on top of her and ran his hands playfully down her bare sides, "I don't wanna."

"You gotta," Emma poked him in the side. Jefferson let out a yelp and rolled off. Emma rolled with him and kissed his chest. She trailed her lips up to his neck and then his lips and brushed her leg down his hip, "I gotta go, honey."

"Now you're teasing your loving husband."

"Yes I am," she kissed him and crawled off, "You coming out to the field?"

"Yeah, I'll watch the kids and bring you out lunch later," he returned the kiss, "Please be careful Emma."

"I will. I Love you. You be careful too."

"I love you too, and I'll definitely be super careful," he kept trying to kiss her, "Like cautionary prairie dog ninja careful."

Emma playfully hit him with the pillow, "Stop being insane."

"Insane with love for you," he sang, "I don't even know if that's a real song."

"I'm going to get some coffee and tea going," Emma told him, "To get you lucid."

"I like this side better," He moaned and shoved his head under the pillow.

Emma didn't want to be out there working in the fields while her family was at home. She wanted to sit there and plot and try to figure out what they were going to do with Zelena. She wanted to protect her family and her parents….she should be the ones sitting in the meetings.

But someone had to take care of the crops. She didn't want her parents to for obvious reasons. And she didn't want her kids to, not right now, they had school.

For all the good most of those lessons would teach them here.

Emma ran downstairs and smiled at her father, "Hi papa."

"Hey sweetheart."

She looked at what he was cooking, "Cinnamon pancakes, huh?"

"I can make your favorite every now and then," he gave her a warm smile.

Emma gave her father a kiss to the cheek and wrapped her arms around him, "You okay with the crowded conditions?"

"It's safe," he offered simply.

"But you don't like it."

"The walls between your parent's room and my room are very thin."

Emma blushed and then started giggling to her father's annoyance, "Oh papa, I'm sorry."

"Sounds like Snow's pushing your other father down the stairs."

"Don't push him down to see if they sound alike."

"I make no promises, if I have to hear their sappy romantic lines," he froze and then frowned, "It just makes me think of belle."

Emma felt the tears surface and she wrapped her arms around him, "I'm sorry papa."

"I'd hoped that she'd have been the last casualty," Rumple's voice broke, "But no, that doesn't seem to be the case, is it? My past and my sins just keep….coming back on you and your other family."

"Papa."

"One of your best supporters is dead because of a woman I trained, she has an interest in your sibling," he felt his voice break, "Because of me."

Emma couldn't deny that. She couldn't refuse what they both knew he was accountable for. She hugged him tighter, "We'll stop her."

"I wanted you to spend the rest of your life in peace."

"And I will. We will. We'll get rid of her. And you'll have so many grandkids you won't know what to do with them. You'll forget all their names and try to snuggle them all at once and do…other grandfather things that grandfathers do. And we'll be safe and we'll be happy."

"Until the next tragedy strikes. Or if Zelena wins"

"Hey," she told him firmly, "That isn't going to happen."

"It's not? Are you sure about that?" he challenged, "Right now I don't have magic, I can't protect you and she's just….slightly under you in terms of power. Emma…I've lost a lot. I can't lose more."

He had her hands on her face then, his eyes searched hers. They were begging and Emma took his wrists, "So then what do I need to do?"

"I need to teach you magic."

Emma tensed. She'd done away with magic like she'd done away with her more complicated life since she arrived, "It must be done?"

He nodded, "It's the only way to defeat her."

She nodded, she didn't like magic completely. It had its uses but she didn't trust the addictiveness that it seemed to have for the practitioners that really used it. But this was her family, Emma wasn't taking any chances, "We'll start tonight then."

He looked relieved, "Okay."

Emma pulled him into a tight embrace, "You won't lose me."

He held onto her like she was his only lifeline, "I pray every night that I won't."

"I went against two Mills women already," Emma whispered and felt a tear run down her cheek, "I can go against a third."

He gave a small chuckle and sniffled, "You know I never wanted this for you. I never wanted any of it."

"I know," Emma told him and gave him a gentle kiss, "But we'll beat it, yeah? We'll get rid of her and life will go on."

HE pressed his kiss to her temple, "I hope so, sweetie."

Emma pulled back and smiled, "I love you, papa."

"You better, and I Love you more" he smiled at her, "Eat your breakfast."

Jefferson liked simple things. He liked waking up to his wife every morning, he liked seeing his daughter smile in his arms, he liked his oldest girl hugging him the way that she did and he liked the way his son called him 'papa'.

Another one of those small things that he'd really learned to love was watching over his children while Emma's mother taught them.

He gave a small smile as they both listened with rapt attention….though David seemed to drift sometimes.

His kids were going to have an education. When he was in this world in the past, Grace's education was something he worried about. He wanted her to do more than read and write and do sums but that sort of thing cost money.

Here….now that everything changed, it was automatic. They were going to be so smart, he was so excited.

He walked to the kitchen and found Charming playing with the baby while Rumpelstiltskin stood at the stove.

"Is Snow okay?" Charming asked.

"She's sitting down while teaching," Jefferson confirmed.

"She shouldn't be doing that, she's pregnant," he muttered.

Jefferson sighed. Emma was breaking a curse while she carried Alice. But Jefferson didn't want to bring that up in the room of self-loathing men.

"You two getting along?" Jefferson asked cautiously.

"We don't…talk a lot….like we should," Charming frowned, "Did you know he's going to teach Emma magic?"

"It's best," Rumpelstiltskin said and put food in three bags.

Jefferson nodded. He didn't even need to discuss that one with Emma. She might not like it all the way but she would do it to protect her family. Especially from another Mills spawn, "It's best."

"I just don't want Emma hurt."

"She's going after your wife," Jefferson told him, "Emma's fought witches before. She'll be safe, she knows what to do."

"Yes, but she had Rumpelstiltskin with her," Charming said, "He kept her safe."

Something akin to astonishment crossed Rumple's eyes. Jefferson ignored it, Charming complimented Rumple's raising Emma. So did Snow. Rumple always seemed surprised by it.

"I can still keep her safe," Rumpelstiltskin put the bags on the counter, "Just differently."

Charming held his granddaughter to his chest and kissed the top of her head, "This is one of those times I wish you could wield magic."

"If I could wield magic, Emma would never have to worry about Zelena," he muttered, "And neither would you. But I don't and it's dangerous for a man like me to start wishing for his addiction again."

Charming nodded.

"You coming?" Jefferson took the bags.

"No, bad day for my leg, but give Emma and Bae my love."

"I'm not sure Baelfire would be comfortable if I showed the same affection to him that I do my wife," Jefferson joked and went to leave.

It was already humid outside; Jefferson groaned and rubbed the back of his neck. They were in the furthest field, it'd be a long ride and he wasn't looking forward to sweating the whole way.

"Hey," he greeted as Red walked up.

"Hello," she told him and gave a tired sigh, "Hot outside."

"Indeed it is," he looked toward the stable. He really didn't want to have to saddle one of them up, "You see Emma and Baelfire?"

"No."

"You see anything on patrol?"

"No."

"Anything you did see that looked interesting?"

Red walked beside him as they both walked to the stables, "Yes, I found the man that stole my orb all those years ago that Rumple sent."

Jefferson blinked, "What?"

Before he could react, Red plunged her hand into his chest. Jefferson's eyes widened. The pain was so great that he couldn't speak. It felt like someone was trying to crush his chest.

And then she yanked it out and Jefferson collapsed on one leg.

"You stole from me after coming after my slippers; you really think you'd get away with it?" She asked in an accent that he knew wasn't Red's. He looked up in terror as he saw a heart, his heart in her hands.

"Zelena," He whispered in fear.

"Good," She gave a smile that he knew certainly wasn't Red's, "Now let's find someplace to talk."
