Chapter 11

Ianto

When Jack and I finally left our room on the TARDIS that Christmas, Amy demanded to know what the surprise was. We had literally just walked into the room when the words left her mouth. Though, as soon as she spoke, she caught sight of the shine coming from mine and Jack's left hands. The redhead looked up at us, wide eyed and grinning.

"Planning needs to start straight away." Amy giggled.

"Come on Amy, let them have Christmas." Rory grinned. "Congratulations."

"Thanks." Jack beamed, pulling my down onto the red sofa, next to him. "So, who else is ready for presents?"

"Did somebody say presents?" came The Doctor's voice, his head appearing from around the corner.

I laughed. Honestly, he could act like suck a child at times. It was amusing at times, while at others it was just annoying. Especially when dealing with other species' on other planets. That was never a good time for his childish side to come out. What was worse was when Jack decided he would act just as juvenile, both causing too much trouble for Amy, Rory and I to deal with. Somehow, it always managed to work out in the end. The Doctor bounded into the room, sitting down on floor, feet place on a slightly lower level of the TARDIS. Jack and I would have to get back to the team at some point, to our own time, back in 2008. I would miss all of this. Travelling to different planets, discovering other species of aliens, collecting alien technology that we didn't have back at Torchwood. Maybe after Jack and I were married, we'd travel again. But we would think about that another day.

That year was, by far, the best Christmas I had had in a while, and I wasn't being biased just because of what happened that morning. Jack had gotten drunk, which was no surprise; Amy was a little tipsy; The Doctor was doing a dance they did back on Gallifrey; Rory and I watching in amusement, making sure nothing got out of hand. This had been going on since seven that evening. For two hours. And they had only just gotten started. Jack had decided that dancing round the control room, dragging Amy along with him, seemed like a perfectly reasonable and sensible idea. The pair of them just laughed as the stumbled along to the imaginary music inside Jack's head. Rory and I just shook our heads, attempting to carry on with our conversation about...well, about everything and anything, really. Of course, Jack wouldn't have that. He and Amy stumbled over to Rory and I. After depositing Amy onto Rory's lap, Jack turned to me, pulling me up with amazing strength for someone so drunk. He was grinning goofily, widely.

"Jack..." I started to ask, curiously as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Yes, Ianto?" Jack murmured, leaning in close to my right ear.

"What are you doing?"

"What do you think?"

I looked to Rory, seeing if he was having any luck with Amy and could help me. Neither Rory nor Amy were there. The Doctor was the only other person around, and I knew he wouldn't be the best person to ask.

"Jack, not here." I scolded.

"Fine." Jack grinned slyly. "Come on then."

Jack dragged me at a run through the TARDIS' corridors. I couldn't help laughing as Jack would stumble and zigzag as he ran.

A while later, after Jack had sobered a little, Jack and I were lying side by side in the bed we had been using for the past six years. I only moved when Jack pulled gently on my side, making me roll onto my side, resting my head on his chest as his arm wrapped around my shoulders.

"I've been thinking." Jack said.

"Yeah?" I asked, raising my head a little, urging him to continue.

"Yeah... Well, it wouldn't be right, getting married without our friends and your family. I mean, sure, you family don't know about us or what we do, and they'll be wondering why you kept this from them...but it wouldn't be right. So, I think we should go back to our own time. Back to two-thousand and eight."

I smiled a little.

"I've been thinking about it too." I told him. "Should we ask in the morning?"

"I think we should." Jack smiled. "For now, let's sleep."

That sounded so nice, I couldn't help but agree.

Come morning, Jack and I had already packed up. The Doctor had agreed to take us back to our time. It was a little sad, thinking that we'd be leaving, not that we'd never see The Doctor, Amy and Rory again. I mean, Amy would kill us if she wasn't invited to the wedding. And we could always travel again. But for now, we had to go home. We had to find a way to explain this all to my family, we had to tell the team, we had to plan everything. Home sounded good right now.

"I have only one question..." I started, as the TARDIS travelled backwards.

"Don't worry, when you're back in two-thousand and eight, you'll still be twenty-four. Until your next birthday, of course." The Doctor replied. "I've been working on a new setting for the TARDIS, it's been working perfectly."

I just laughed. Of course he'd do something like that without telling us first.

"Well, thank you." I told him.

"No problem." The Doctor grinned. "We should be stopping any moment now."

As if on cue, that TARDIS came to a shuddering stop. I took my phone out of the pocket of my jeans, glancing at the screen of my phone. The date told me that it was July 20th 2008 and was three in the afternoon. Our past selves would have already left with The Doctor, so we were safe from running into them. Jack and I turned to the three, saying good bye. It took a good twenty minutes to actually leave the TARDIS.

Looking around, I sighed happily. It was nice to be home.
