Free and Four wandered the Dauntless compound, their fingers intertwined. They'd just been through Free's fear landscape once again, she'd done well but it always took her a while to get over the feeling of dread that set in her stomach after each trip through her fears. Four was trying to make her laugh but she could only manage a small smile. The two stopped on the bridge over the chasm, it had become one of Free's favourite spots and she spent a lot of her time there these days.

"C'mon Free, laugh or something. You're doing fine there's two days before you have to do it for real you're ready to face this." Four assured her and Free nodded but still couldn't seem to muster up even a decent smile. "I don't want everyone to see inside my head." She told him, "I can't have anyone knowing these things about me."

Four wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "I know these things about you," He pointed out and Free tilted her head to look up at him. "You're different though, you understand me. Sometimes better than I understand myself." The two fell into a short silence, gazing intently into one another's eyes, slowly Four began to lean in towards her, Free's heartbeat sped up as she closed her eyes. Seconds later and their lips met, it was a sweet kiss that only lasted a few seconds but it made Free feel warm which was an unusual feeling when she felt so cold all of the time. Four looked down at her as she leant into his side, she couldn't look at him, feeling shy all of a sudden but the smile on her face was enough for him.

Free knocked on Eric's door but didn't wait for him to open it before she walked in. "You weren't at dinner," She commented as she flopped down on to the sofa beside Eric, who was reading a book with a green cover, she couldn't quite read the title from where she was sitting. Eric nodded, "Yeah I was busy." He replied coldly, Free tilted her head at him.

"Are you okay?" She asked wondering if something had happened to put him in a bad mood. "I'm fine." He replied but Free didn't buy it. She rested her head on his shoulder but he didn't seem to take any notice of her so instead she hooked herself under his arm, blocking his view of the book. Eric sighed and shifted his position so he could stand up, dropping Free onto the sofa. "What's the matter with you?" Free asked as she followed Eric off the sofa, she dropped herself down onto the bed instead and watched Eric as he searched through the stack of books on his bedside table.

Eric flicked his eyes in her direction, "I saw you and Four today." He said nonchalantly and Free's stomach did a flip, and not the good kind she'd been getting lately. "When?" She asked and Eric shrugged, "Oh you know, when you were at the chasm."

Free sighed, "Eric," She started but she didn't know how to finish, she hadn't been doing anything wrong so she wasn't going to apologise. Eric walked around the bed and opened the door to his room, "You can't sleep here tonight." He said and gestured for her to leave.

Free looked at him dumbfounded, "What? Why not?" She asked, not making any move to leave his room. "You just can't, okay?" Eric replied and again gestured towards the door. Free didn't move, she simply stared at him, waiting for him to change his mind. "Free, get out." He said with a little more force this time. "Fine," Free said and got up off his bed and began to walk to the door, "I'll just go sleep in Four's room." She hadn't meant to say it, she just wanted to hurt him a little and before she could stop herself the words were out of her mouth. "Eric, I didn't-" She didn't get chance to say any more before Eric closed the door in her face.

Free did not go to Four's room. Instead she wandered back to the Transfer's dorm. She hadn't been there in forever and when she entered Katie looked at her in surprise, "Free?" She asked as her friend dropped on to the vacant bed beside her, the one that hadn't been slept in for weeks. "You okay?" Katie asked and Free rolled over so she was staring up at the bunk that was above her own. "Eric's in a mood with me." Free replied. Katie looked at her waiting for her to go on but when she didn't she prompted her, "Why?

"Because he saw me kissing Four today."

Katie laughed and Free looked at her with raised eyebrows, she didn't understand what was funny about her problems. "You don't get it do you?" Katie asked and when Free looked more confused than ever she explained, "Both guys like you right? – Which is really unfair by the way save some guys for the rest of us – Eric is obviously jealous, I mean how would you feel if you saw him out with some other girl?" Free shrugged,

"I don't think it would bother me really, I mean it's not like there's really anything between us. It's the same with Four, it was one kiss it doesn't mean anything."

Katie looked the Free like she had just said the craziest thing. Then her expression changed, became more annoyed than shocked, "You know what your problem is Free?" She asked but Free didn't have time to answer, "Your problem is that you don't let anyone in, I've tried to be friends with you but you don't even seem to care, I can hardly get you to say two words about yourself and its exhausting trying to make a conversation with you when you won't open up at all." Free wasn't sure where this was coming from but Katie definitely had a point, "I haven't a clue why either of these guys are into you, I mean sure you're pretty but you're so cold."

Silence fell between them for a moment before Free spoke up, "Typical Candor, say it like it is." She tried to keep a straight face but found herself smiling anyway. "I'm sorry," Free carried on, "I don't know how to let people in, and it's actually part of one of the fears in my landscape. I know you tried hard to be my friend which I really do appreciate even if I don't show it." Silence fell once more between them and then Katie reached towards Free, "I'm going to hug you now, I don't care if you don't like it." Katie wrapped her arms around her friend and Free didn't pull away.

The two girls sat on Free's bed for a long while after, talking quietly to each other and Free felt like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders, it felt good to actually talk to someone about herself for a change. It was hard at first, she was so used to evading questions that she'd never really thought about how'd she'd answer them in the first place but after she started she couldn't stop.

Eventually the girls were the only two left awake in the dorm and they had to whisper to one another, "So how do you feel about Four and Eric?" Katie asked and Free shrugged, "I don't know, I guess I like them both," Free replied, "But it's different for each of them, like Four just seems to understand me, we have a similar background and he just gets it and accepts me regardless." Katie nodded for her to go on, "Eric, well he doesn't know enough about me to even begin to understand. I can't talk to him, I'm scared he'll reject me if I tell him too much. When he told me to get out of his room today though I was so hurt and angry, I told him I'd go to Four instead, I just wanted him to tell me not too and to come back inside but he shut the door in my face. It hurt."

Katie thought for a bit, "Well I don't know a lot about guys and I certainly can't make the decision for you. I mean Four's great, when I first went through my fear landscape he was so nice to me after, I mean I was crying quite a lot and he just made me feel so much better but I just think you need to give Eric a better chance, I mean he's a total dick really and I don't even know what you see in him but the way your eyes lit up when you spoke about him just now, I think you need to let him in."

After that Katie went to sleep and Free headed for Eric's room, even if he didn't want to see her, she needed to see him.

So like yeah. Another chapter for you guys. It probably feels like I don't really have a plan for this fic but I actually do which is really weird for me, I'm just working out how to put that plan together at the moment. So reviews are greatly appreciated I like to know what you guys are enjoying and what I'm doing wrong, as always thanks for reading ~RainbowVeins
