Lucy threw herself in to the arms of Enjolras. He hugged the girl tight in disbelief. Once the explanations were out the way he quickly hurried her to a small room. Gavroche was lying on a bed and god did he look a sight for sore eyes. He looked battered and bruised covered in dry blood as well as plenty of fresh blood. Joly was bent over him with a worried expression and Courfeyrac whom he had chosen to keep with him in the room was stood quietly in the corner. Courfeyrac rushed forward and pulled Lucy into a crushing hug. Gavroche's eyes opened and he spotted Lucy immediately. No words were spoken but each knew how the other felt. "How's it looking?" Lucy asked not taking comfort in the worried expression on joly's face. "Hard to tell. He was shot in the side and in the chest. He is very lucky not to have been killed by blood loss. We are still in a very dangerous zone. His wounds are still bleeding and they are very deep. With all this blood I can't tell how severe his wounds are..." joly shook his head.
"Let's start but I'm not promising much. Gav I need you to take off your shirt is that alright?" Gav shook his head violently. Lucy who had moved closer to the bed took gav's hand in her own. "Gav I need to sort these wounds out now" joly said. Again gav refused. Suddenly it all fell in to place for Lucy. Gavroche's dad beat him and the bruises she had seen on his arms were pretty bad so god only knows what the ones on his body were like. He was trying to hide to them from the students but Lucy had a feeling joly already knew what he was going to find. "Gav," Lucy said softly "the wounds need sorting."

Eventually Gav gave in. Joly with the help of Courfeyrac removed Gav's blood stained shirt. They knew all about Gav's dad but nothing prepared them for the state Gav was in. He was practically skin and bones, covered in dark coloured bruises, deep cuts and plenty of scars. Every rib was visible and every cut, every bruise was a reminder to the students of how they'd watched Gav suffer and hadn't intervened. At the moment Gav wished the ground would swallow him up. Everyone was looking at him. The others had quickly learned of Lucy's arrival and had come to see her and check on Gav. They were all looking at every cut and bruise on Gav's tiny body. The guilt and anger showed in all their faces.

Joly managed to chase everyone out and prepared to wash and dress Gav's wounds. "This is going to hurt like hell," he said "but you gotta be brave. Just like you were on the barricade." Gav's eyes were huge and he looked petrified. Lucy hopped up next to him and he shuffled closer to her. Joly began to clean the wounds. Gav tried to stay strong but it all became too much. The pain was overwhelming and Gav was crying before Joly had finished the first wound. "P..please s..s..stop" Gav sobbed. Joly ignored him. He knew if he listened, if he looked at Gav's tear stained face he would throw in the towel. He couldn't bear the thought of causing Gavroche pain. Lucy wrapped her arms around Gav. He sobbed into her chest soaking her shirt. Joly moved allowing Courfeyrac to dress the side wound. He then had to turn Gav slightly and began to work on the chest wound. This one was even bigger and deeper then the first. As predicted it was even more painful. Gav was practically hysterical as Joly began. He tried to move away but he was trapped between Lucy and joly. All he could was sob.

After everything was over Courfeyrac left to speak to the others and Joly was cleaning up. Gavroche was exhausted and his head was banging. Joly put a shirt on him that was several sizes too big and exited the room. Gavroche wanted to speak to Lucy, ask her all the questions that were in his head but he was too tired. Laying his head on her chest he slipped in to a painful sleep. When he awoke the house was silent. It was pretty dark and he was still curled into Lucy's chest. He was in a lot pain. He tried to shift slightly without disturbing Lucy. Being a light sleeper Lucy was awoken by even the slightest movement. "You alright?" she yawned. Gavroche nodded. "Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you," He murmured. "It's ok. How you feeling?" she shifted to get a better look at Gavroche. "Sore, miserable," Gav gave a slight smile. Lucy smiled back. They fell into a comfortable silence. Each one just enjoying the company of the other. Gavroche was the first to break the silence. "What made you come back?" he whispered, "I thought you wanted to be with your other family," he added bitterly. Lucy sighed. She felt bad enough as it was and she hated the way Gavroche looked at her with his big brown eyes. Why did she feel like she had kicked a puppy? "Gav I'm sorry and that is all I can say. I made a mistake. I chose the people who didn't care about me over the ones who did. For that I am sorry." "What did your friends have to say then?" Gav asked. "Never saw them," Lucy said, "Got all the back home and they weren't there. No one had really seen them or heard from them. I stayed for a while and ran into Chace. He said that when they got home they just all went their separate ways and assumed I would be alright by myself. In all the years we have been friends I never thought it would end like this, us all going our separate ways. Alone and no longer with the support of each other. I suppose it was going to happen eventually. We couldn't rely on each other forever." "At least you still have us," Gav said as he snuggled back down. "Exactly," Lucy smiled, "at least I still have you guys."
