Chapter Eleven: Untold Secrets Released

*Tris POV*

"So, we're going to the Hub?" Uriah asks.

"That's as good a guess as any," Tobias says. "Hold her government in the most important building in the city. Makes sense."

I think about it for a second. But why would they focusing arming Dauntless at Erudite headquarters if they are just going to hold the government in the Hub? I decide to ask.

"Why are the security measures here really strict?" I ask. "If the government is in the Hub, then why protect Erudite headquarters?"

"Well," Tobias says. "That is a good question. Doesn't make sense, does it? Maybe because Jeanine was born an Erudite and they're creating the serums. Remember, though, that we have no proof that the government is in the Hub; it's just a hypothesis. They could well be in this place too. We have no proof, only hunches."

"Yeah," I say. "Check here first?"

He nods. "Wouldn't make sense to leave and find out we were wrong and have to sneak back in here. Let's go look."

We begin to walk to the door and as soon as Uriah is out, I speak up. "Hey Tobias," I say. "Can we can talk about something?"

"What about Tris?" he asks. I stare at him as we walk out, seeing Zeke and Katniss, Gale, Finnick, and Pollux outside the room. Need the records too, I guess.

"You have secrets you have kept from me," I say. "And I have proof." We walk over to an empty hallway and I hand him his initiate record. His face goes hard.

"Tris," he begins. "You need to understand…"

"No!" I interrupt him. "You need to understand! I thought we had trust in our relationship, but you have kept a major secret from me. No wonder you knew about Panem when I didn't. The Dauntless control room stuff was just bullshit!"

"Tris."

"Tobias. Spill it!"

"Fine." He focuses in on my eyes. "I was kidnapped when I was fourteen. Kidnapped by the Capitol and taken to District 9. They registered me for the 71st Hunger Games and I was reaped. I went to the Capitol against my will and trained for the Games. I came out victorious and went through all the post-Games festivities. After all the cameras left, I escaped District 9 and somehow found my way home."

"Why didn't you tell me?" I ask, sounding like I'm about to cry. "I thought you trusted me."

"I do, Tris, I do," he says. "I never wanted to relive it. Not only were the Games hell, but when I returned home, Marcus blamed me for escaping the Abnegation sector. He punished me for that."

"Oh," I say. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay. Since I told you about this, I want to let you know why I chose Dauntless." I nod, staring deep into his eyes, wondering what is going on through his head right now. "I was labeled Divergent because I had aptitude for Dauntless and Abnegation. Tori was my test administrator, so she warned me of the dangers of my Divergence, even telling me what the Erudite did to her brother. She posted my results as Abnegation so no one would be suspicious. On my Choosing Day, I chose Dauntless for three reasons. I chose it because I had aptitude for it, for one. The most obvious reason was to escape my father. He never visited me, but I am glad that he never did. My other reason was to help protect the city from an encounter with people from Panem like that again. I had no idea what Jeanine was planning to do, or that she sent Eric to Dauntless to get inside the faction. I chose the control room over Dauntless leadership because I wanted to have full view of the city to protect it. Also, the original vision of the faction was corrupted by Max. I didn't want to enforce it."

"Then why teach initiates?" I ask.

"To pass by time during that time of year. Plus, I met you. It was worth it."

I blush at that statement. My tears change to a smile. "Well," I say. "Can we try to promise more honesty. I know we aren't Candor, but still, for us."

He nods and answers, "For us. And, so you know more about me, my mother is not dead as you may have thought, she is the leader of the factionless. That is how I know they have the largest Divergent population. I promise now, no more secrets." He pulls me in and we kiss. We pull away when Zeke comes over to us.

"Ew, gross Four," he laughs. "Haha, trust me, I understand. I have Shauna, back with the loyal Dauntless."

"That reminds me, where are the loyal Dauntless at?" Tobias asks.

"Candor headquarters," Zeke answers. "Anyways, I came to find you because Jeanine went to communicate with your friends. Luckily, she doesn't notice that they aren't Erudite."

She caught them, but she believes they're Erudite. I feel relieved about that. I remember something we were doing.

"Where does she have the government meet at?" I ask.

"Well," he says. "They haven't officially took hold of power yet, due to Amity's uninvolvement and the Dauntless hiding in Candor headquarters. They do meet and make plans to attack Candor and Amity, though. The meeting room is in a major office on the second floor of the building. I could take you there if you want."

"Please," Tobias says. He grabs my hand and we follow Zeke and notice that Uriah was near us the whole time. Zeke takes us to a room labeled MAJOR OFFICE ROOM . I'm ready to eavesdrop on Jeanine when she returns and get some more answers, like another attack simulation plan with the Hijacking Serum.

I'm a happy, though, that Tobias and I have amended our relationship. The truth will make us stronger, not in a Candor way. We have a long way to go, but now I even have a fear of what his mother, who I thought was dead, will do with the factionless with the Erudite in charge right now. There is also the rebellion, because we need to return to District 13 soon so we can get help. Not Candor, Amity, or factionless help, but outside, military help.

There is still so much left to do….

Note: Sorry for the short chapter, but it was mainly a Tris and Four argument, which is always short. But, you didn't think that just because the entire story of Insurgent is different means that the factionless under Evelyn have no role. There is more to that, a bit in the future. No spoilers though. They will be returning to 13 soon, though, and the Rebellion will be in full swing, but with a lot of simulation stuff involved too. Please review!
