Everyone could see how pissed off Jonathan Good actually was. That seemed to be his mood for the last month to be honest. Hearing Randy ask Leah out two weeks hadn't helped his mood either, but finding out from Colby that the two of them were going on a second date after RAW tonight had pretty much messed up with his head.
He walked down the hall and luckily - or not - spotted exactly who he wanted to see. Randy Orton was engaged in conversation with John Cena, his back turned to Jon. Cena was the first one to notice the one third of The Shield approaching.
"Hey dude!" John was quick to realize Jon wasn't in the right state of mind. As soon as Jon got to them, eyes not leaving Randy he understood something was up.
Randy only seemed to realize the other man's presence after John spoke. "What's up man?" The two weren't exactly close - mostly because both usually hung around different people - but they were fine around each other.
Jon bluntly ignored both man's greetings and focused his attention on Randy Orton. Just staring at his face, acting as if it everything was alright, made Jon feel sick to his stomach. John felt the tension in the room. Something was definitely up and he could tell by Jon's face staring at Randy, he was about to explode at any given moment, so he placed one hand on Jon's chest trying to calm the younger man down.
Randy still didn't seem to realize what the problem was but his eyes were fixated on Jon upon his best friend's hand met with the man's chest. Jon jerked John's hand off of him, his gaze still on Randy. The Ohioan native was quick to get his hands on Randy's chest pushing him. "What the hell man?"
"Ambrose, calm down!" John tried to reason, failing miserably.
"I'm calm, if I wasn't he would be laying down on the fucking floor." Jon replied, not taking his eyes off of Randy. "What the hell is your idea going out with Leah? Who the fuck do you think you are?"
"Leah is the girl you told me about?" John asked somewhat shocked at the revelation.
"What's the big deal really?" Jon was just about to move forward again, ready to attack but John stopped him, pulling him behind and getting himself in the middle of the two.
"You stay the fuck away from her." Jon shouted, storming out of the place.
John and Randy shared a look before John interrupted the silence. "The girl you're going out with is Leah?"
"Yeah, what's the big deal?" Randy asked, a little exasperation showing on his voice. "She's single and besides, she's beautiful and a really nice girl."
"That's not the question man." John was surprised his best friend had had the guts to ask the younger brunette out. He could have picked up on Randy's interest for her a long time ago but he never really thought Randy would act on it, especially not now. "There's a lot of history between those two."
John was sure Randy didn't know about Leah and Jon's full past or he would never have acted on his feelings for Leah, so soon after Jon found out the truth. Not many people backstage knew about it yet. The only reason John knew was because of Nikki and as much as John wanted to alert his best friend, it wasn't really his place.
"Besides Leah has a son and you just got your divorce. It just seems rather fast, don't you think?" John asked, quite frankly he didn't want to see Randy get too involved and then ending up hurt.
"Maybe."
Leah DiBiase had been set to return to RAW tonight. It was her first appearance in two weeks – meaning the RAW GM had missed SummerSlam and last week's RAW. Everyone desperately wanted to know where the brunette stood after Triple H had screwed Daniel Bryan over at the biggest event of the summer. While the daughter of the Million Dollar Man had been hired by Triple H, she always stood up in defense of Daniel Bryan so there was enough reason to cause doubts on everyone's mind.
The brunette walked backstage in a hurry as she tried to get to Mr. McMahon's office. In a pair of black jeans and a white blouse, combined with the heelish sandals on her feet, Leah was a determined woman looking for some explanation.
"Leah! Leah!" Renee Young interrupted her, running down to meet her before she could walk through the door. "Can we get a word?" Leah sighed, but nodded. She stopped, giving Renee a small smile. "Leah, you were not on RAW last week and what's been on everyone's mind for the past week is exactly where do you stand in all of this? What do you think of HHH's actions?"
"Renee. To be honest, I don't know what's on his mind but I intend on finding out really soon." Leah paused, running her hand through her hair. "Now I'm not sure what Brad thinks he's doing either but I'm about to go remind him that I'm the co-GM of this show and I'm taking it back." Leah nodded towards Renee before turning around and walking through the door of Mr. McMahon's office.
Leah had been really thrilled with the storyline when Paul had spoken to her about it – the struggle to fight the power and stepping up against the bosses, it would give her a great challenge and allow her to build up a sort of rebellious but strong character. More than that, it would buy her some more time before she got back in the ring.
Of course, once Leah realized she'd be dragged in the middle of Jon's feud with Dolph Ziggler for the United States Champion during the next few weeks, she was a lot more upset than thrilled. The youngest DiBiase and Jon were not really on speaking terms – matter of fact the Ohioan native had made sure to avoid her for pretty much all of the last month. She hadn't talked to him since that night when he asked for a DNA test. Hell, she could count the times she'd seen him over the last month with the fingers of one hand.
In a way, it was good she hadn't seen him. She was definitely upset and confused in regards of what she was feeling. She really didn't want to talk to him just yet. As far as she knew, he hadn't even gotten the results back.
"So!" Brianna jumped behind her, completely taken the other brunette by surprise but leaving a smile on her face.
"What?" Leah laughed at the twin. She and Brie had grown close since Leah had opened up to her and the older woman had been so supportive of the single mother, standing by her through the tough time. Leah had truly appreciated her support and the way Brie would so often go out of her way to make sure she was alright. Looking back, Leah was quite saddened she had never gotten around to develop a friendship with Brie before.
"How was Orlando?" Brianna asked her, leaning against the wall as she waited for a response.
Leah chuckled, "It was really cool – definitely up to beating your ass now."
"Slow down your horses!" Brie chuckled, wrapping her arms around the youngest DiBiase in a tight hug. "I missed seeing your face."
Leah chuckled, wrapping her arms around the brunette's waist. "It was only two weeks."
"I'm used to having you around now." The twin explained to her friend, breaking the hug between the two. "On a serious note, have you seen Randy since the show started?"
Leah looked at her with a weird look plastered on her face. "Uhh, no! Why?"
Brie sighed, she had hoped not to be the one sharing the news but it seemed like she wouldn't be able to crack her way out of the conversation without telling Leah about it now. "Dean kind of lost it with him before the show."
Leah's face was unreadable. Brie couldn't understand if she was about to go hunt Jon through the arena in order to kick his ass or if she was gonna run in worry to find Randy. "What did he do?"
"He just pushed him – John got in the middle before anything more serious could happen. But I guess Dean was furious, he straight out of the bat told Randy to stay away from you."
Leah run a hand through her forehead, before letting it slide down her long brown waves. She couldn't believe at the nerve of that boy. How does he go from not talking to her for a month to having a jealousy crisis in their work place? Who the hell does that?
"I can't deal with this right now." Leah shook her head in exasperation, "I've gotta go, I have another segment in a little bit. I'll see you later."
Brianna sighed, watching her friend walk away from her. Bryan had been the one to prompt Brie to talk to Leah and to try and develop a friendship with the fellow diva. Her boyfriend held the brunette in a high esteem and Brie could definitely see why now.
In the last month she had grown severely attached to the single mother. Brianna felt a huge connection to her and she enjoyed Leah's personality and how up-beat she could be. With that being said, Brie hated to see her feeling down.
"What do you mean he's refusing attention? You're the doctor!" Brad asked. "No, give him medical attention -" The door to the office burst open with one particular superstar walking in. "Okay good, you're here. Punk you need medical attention." Brad said pointing to the doctor besides him.
"No. A doctor can't help." Punk replied as the doctor walked out. "You can... because I want a match with Paul Heyman."
"Okay." Brad shrugged.
"I want a match where Paul Heyman can't get away. You saw what just happened out there. I don't care what type of match it is and I don't care about my body or my well-being or my career right now. You give me a match with Paul Heyman -"
"Alright, alright! Night of Champions, I'll give you a match." Brad sighed. "You versus... Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman. Handicap elimination match?"
"I like it." Leah nodded, walking into the office. "But still Paul may be able to escape."
Brad looked over at Leah as she gained Punk's attention as well. "Well, Punk wants a match where Paul can't escape... let's make it inside a steel cage." Punk smirked at the idea, obviously happy with the news. Directing a nod towards Leah, he left the office.
Leah looked at Brad beside her, elbowing him as a smile showed on her face. "Now don't be nervous."
Brad rolled his eyes. "Hunter wants you at the stage tonight, witnessing what's going to happen to Daniel Bryan." He was ready to leave the office but turned back to face her. "Oh, and if you interfere… he might just fire you."
Leah smiled amused. "And we both know that wouldn't be good for you right? Who would run the show while you're too busy running errands to Hunter and Mr. McMahon?" Brad shook his head walking out the office.
"Are you alright?" Brad asked her once the segment was done with, both of them leaving the office. "You seem off!"
"I'm good, don't worry about it." Leah sent a smile his way, an honest one instead of the sarcastic smile she'd shown him during their segment.
"Alright, I gotta go – see you later?" Brad rubbed her shoulder nicely before turning to leave, following in the direction of one of the producers.
"So what's really going on?" Phil's voice behind her made her jump a little in surprise. She hadn't really noticed her best friend's presence. "Don't even say it's nothing because I know you."
Leah sighed, shaking her head at how well her best friends knew her. They could read her so easily, she didn't even have to speak for them to know something was off. "Jon kind of attacked Randy earlier – just blown out lost it, Cena had to get in between."
"Yeah, I heard about it earlier. Wasn't sure if you knew about it yet though." Arriving to the arena, one of the first things Phil had heard was about Jon and Randy's little altercation. Cena had been there and had filled Phil about all that had been said.
"We're not even talking." Leah snapped.
"He hasn't said anything yet?" Phil asked surprised. He knew Jon had trouble letting things go but he kind of expected him to have said something to Leah already.
Jon hadn't really said anything to him either and Phil wasn't really expecting him to. Not until he had sorted things out with Leah and they could move on from it. He didn't thought it would take so long. The Straight-Edge guy thought for sure Jon would have bent a lot sooner when it came to the pretty brunette Phil knew he still had feelings for.
"He's not gonna say anything and I don't think I really have to either." Leah shrugged, pecking her best friends' cheek before leaving the older man alone by the office's door.
Phil truly hated to see his friends like this. It broke his heart to see Leah feeling so bad and unsure of what the future held after she had taken such a big step in coming clean to Jon. And it broke his heart to see Jon, a guy with so much potential and who had come a long way, behaving like the world's biggest dick and driving away his chance at happiness.
Every superstar and diva was on that stage by the time Daniel Bryan's music played. He carefully eyed everyone he passed by as Renee Young tried to get some words out of the members of the roster - mainly Dolph Ziggler and Big Show who had been assaulted in the past week because of speaking their mind on what was happening.
The Shield walked to the ring going through the crowd per usual. Seth Rollins himself got into the ring being the first one to face Daniel Bryan as the remaining members of The Shield stood ringside.
After being able to beat Seth Rollins, Daniel was fast to put Ambrose on the Yes! Lock only for it to be broken by Roman Reigns and getting Dean Ambrose disqualified. The same ending seemed to be coming Reigns way as he was about to tap out when Ambrose and Rollins interfered.
A three on one assault on Daniel Bryan started at the hands of The Shield, without any superstar moving. Leah herself made her way through the superstars - Brad trying to stop her keeping a hold on her arm - walking down mid ramp, but soon HHH's music played. The Shield stopped staring down at Leah on the ramp all wearing matching smirks.
It was very easy for Leah to be in character when she was honestly throwing daggers at one third of the men standing in the ring. Jon understood it perfectly and despite him being in character, he very much knew Leah's anger was very real and very justified when it came to him. Hell to it, he was just as angry with her and it was just as justified as hers.
Triple H stood in the ramp next to all the superstars and looked down at Leah, shaking his head slowly. He gave the nod to the three men in the ring and Leah immediately turned to them watching as they got in position to triple power bomb the already hurt Daniel. Orton's music blasted as he walked past Hunter and down the ramp. He stopped next to Leah, smirking down at her as he passed his hand through her cheek only for her to jerk it away. He chuckled a bit but left her side to go stand in the ring. Ambrose and Rollins grabbed Daniel only for him to get RKO'ed by the champion himself.
Randy walked out the ring leaving The Shield in there and once again walking past Leah, who wasn't even able to look at him. He met Triple H at the beginning of the ramp, every superstar and diva standing behind them as Randy held his title high. The older man by his side nodded down at Leah with a smirk very much alike the one in display on Randy's lips.
"So you enjoyed yourself?" Randy questioned her as they got to her hotel room.
"Yeah, it was fun!" Leah smiled up at him while leaning against the hotel door. Randy had taken her out for a late dinner right after the show ended, with Jay offering to watch Jody for a couple of hours so the couple could be together after the two weeks apart.
Dinner had run smoothly after the little discussion over what had happened with Jon. The brunette had pretty much acted as if she didn't know about the fight and Jon's harsh words directed at the viper and when Randy tried to get some more information out of her, she just shut down completely. As much as the single mom liked Randy and had been friends with him since her first run with the company, Leah wasn't completely open to talking about Jon and Jody with him – not yet anyway.
"Yeah," Randy scratched the back of his neck trying to control the sudden coldness creeping up. "I always have fun with ya. I… I like you a lot Leah."
Leah looked down, completely aware of how close his face and body were to hers. As much as she enjoyed the time she spent with Randy, Leah wasn't sure she thought of him as more than a friend yet. Saying it with lesser words, Leah's feelings weren't as resolved as Randy's seemed to be.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think you're amazing and I want to see where things can go between us." Randy told her, taking a hold of her hand as he cornered her against her hotel room door. "I don't want to be meeting anyone else."
Leah's mouth stayed shut, her eyes however met his blue ones, exchanging a silent talk she wasn't sure he would be able to understand. The first glance she took at his eyes brought a feeling of disappointment to Leah she quickly masked not wanting him to catch on. Randy's blue eyes weren't the blue ones' she almost so desperately wanted to find. As much as it pained to admit, the mother of one knew her unresolved feelings were exclusively to Jon's new found presence in her life.
"You don't have to say anything yet." Randy was an expert at understanding her silence and the confused look on her brown eyes, "Just think it through?" The brunette nodded, a small smile showing on her parted lips. That agreement was enough for the tattooed wrestler and he quickly caught her by surprise when his lips covered hers. It was a chaste kiss, quick and efficient but not nearly enough to give her the butterflies in the stomach or tremble knees another blue eyed man easily used to give her with just with as much as a look.
Randy was pretty much gone after that, leaving her with a quick squeeze of the hand and a murmured goodbye. His room was on the floor above hers so she lost trail of him when he got inside the elevator. God did she wish she would have stepped inside her room right away instead of being inside her stupid trance.
While opening the door to her hotel room, where she was sure she'd find Jay and Jody waiting for her, Leah's gaze landed on another figure she easily recognized and judging by the look on his face, Jon has most likely been watching the scene unfold for the entire time.
Their eyes met and it felt like everything else around them stopped. Even when they were pissed off at each other and not talking for weeks, the pull to each other was as strong as ever. She could read him better than anyone else, she knew what was going through his head with just a shared look.
She shook her head, reassuring him that any type of confrontation right now, after him not talking to her for the last month, wasn't the right move. The angriness in her eyes was more than palpable. There was a slight smirk on his face that gave away the current thought on his head. Slut! He was thinking and she knew it. She tilted her head down for a second; did she give a fuck about his insults when he was so effortlessly ignoring her – no!
Leah was the first one to break eye contact, her gaze meeting the wood floor of her room instead as she stepped in and closed the door behind her – not smashing it like she so deeply wanted but silently closing it in case Jody was sleeping already.
I don't even need your love but you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough. No you didn't have to stoop so low…
Leah heard the recognized lyrics mixed in a rock setting, the girls' voice slightly hoarse but strong and beautiful nonetheless. She couldn't recognize the arrangement of possible the most overplayed song of the year but she liked it so far – obviously not minding the irony of the lyrics she'd first heard when she stepped foot in the room.
"What you watching?" She asked Jay, taking her shoes off and looking at him sitting on the bed with the computer resting on his legs.
"TV show, something about politics. I'm not really getting it but not much else on." Jay vaguely responded, contradicting his words of not really been much into it. Leah knew he was enjoying it just by the concentrated look on his face. By his side on a smaller bed, Jody was soundly asleep.
Leah planted a kiss on top of her son's head, her hand stroking his cheek softly not to wake him up. When she turned back to Jay he had already pressed pause on the episode and was waiting to have her attention. "How was it?"
"Alright."
He pulled a face. "Alright? Just alright? What happened?"
"Nothing, it was good." Leah quickly answered, not really in the mood to discuss her night.
"You guys were out there for a while." Jay commented after the brunette jumped in bed, sitting next to him.
"Let's see: Jon doesn't talk to me but goes mental on Randy, who in return wants a relationship and pecks my lips in front of my room…" Leah trailed off, catching a glimpse of Jay's face to see his reaction so far. "While Jon watches from a far."
Of course her best friend's expression only changes at that. He had probably heard all about Jon and Randy's altercation from earlier and Leah was slowly starting to wonder if there was anyone who didn't know about it. The kiss per se wasn't enough to shock her best friend; they weren't kids anymore – a kiss wasn't a big deal and between two adults on their second date was hardly any surprise.
Jon was the shocking factor and despite Leah's explanations that Randy wasn't aware of his presence – or her for that matter, until later on, didn't mean shit. Jay was downright pissed off at Jon for giving the cold shoulder to Leah – and Jody – for the last month, but flaunting Randy around wouldn't do her any favors.
"What?" She asked him, noticing the look on his face.
Jay sighed, moving his computer to the bedside table and shifting places so he was now facing her. "You need to be careful so you don't end up hurting Randy or driving Jon further away." Leah scoffed, not really knowing what else to do. "C'mon Le, you and Jon is not exactly a solved matter and you can't really afford to piss Jon off anymore; you need to be able to speak with him for Jody's sake."
Leah sighed driving the air in front of her eyes away with the help of her hand. "God, I'm so sick of this! I wasn't fucking ready."
"To come back?" Jay asked. He knew how much Leah loved the business and she had waited just the right time to come back with Jody and everything but she couldn't be gone for much longer – it wasn't fair on a girl who had so much passion for the business.
"To see him."
Shutting the door to his room, Jon couldn't believe the scene he had just witnessed. His stomach had dropped when the fuckers' lips touched Leah's soft ones. He mentally kicked himself for not giving him a beating when he had the chance.
Well that wasn't really the only thing that had him in the bad state he was currently on. After getting the weekend off, Jon had traveled back to Cincinnati and picked up his DNA results from the lab. There was some crazy policy and apparently the results had to be picked up by the person who had requested them so Jon had pretty much been in the blue for the last week and an half after getting the call saying they were ready.
He was the kid's father.
He was the father of an almost three year old boy who he had found out existed little over a month ago. There was so much running through his mind.
He wasn't finding it easy to deal with the fact Leah had taken three years to tell him about it. They weren't together back then but Leah knew he would never leave her alone with a kid, didn't she? Of course, ideally, he wouldn't want her to be pregnant – he wouldn't want to take up on the responsibility, the same way she probably wouldn't if given the chance.
They hadn't been in an official romantic relationship at the time – they were friends, who flirted a lot and were definitely attracted to each other. He had been interested in her pretty much since meeting her but that didn't mean he would stop having fun and being with other girls when it was pretty clear Leah didn't want anything to do with him.
But hell, there were tons of people who got pregnant and after a one night stand and still managed to make it work. Maybe came to an understanding and raised the child as friends or even down the line gave a real relationship the shot it deserved.
Leah fucking Stevens couldn't have gone about it like any other woman would. She was out to hurt him, for sure because the obvious reasonable answer back then had been to fucking keep it a secret. One that she had kept well buried for three long years. And then, the right move would be to fucking storm in his life and completely wreck it with the little piece of news – while fucking someone else.
Randy Orton. Randy fucking Orton out of everybody.
"Fuck." He muttered kicking the damn couch out of place, hands buried deep inside his hoodie, eyes red and face warm from the bottled up anger.
"You alright?" Colby asked him, stepping inside Jon's vision area. The two toned haired guy was just closing the door to their shared room when the noise from his teammates' kicks to the couch startled him.
Jon turned to face him, hands out of his pockets and arms now raised up in the air, sideways to his body. "I'm a fucking father." Colby's features changed softly not sure of what he could say that would serve of any comfort to his best friend. "And the mother of my child is a fucking slut… so you know, I'm doing great."
Jon turned his back on Colby once again, hands clenched close applying much more force than needed. Colby watched him attentively, taking a sit at the edge of his bed. He hated seeing how wrecked his best friend had been for the course of the last month. This was what Jon had worked so hard for – what they all had wanted for such a long time and they were finally living it, Jon should be enjoying the ride with the rest of them instead of being ruined by a late coming revelation.
Not to say Colby didn't understand Leah. Woman were complicated and mostly acted out on stuff guys didn't even realize were an issue. The one half of the tag team champions knew something had been going on between Randy and Leah – he had heard it from the viper himself that the two had gone on a date a few weeks ago; he wouldn't say Leah was a slut for moving on with her life. God knew Jon had had his fair share of woman running past his bed since Colby had first met him.
Still, Colby understood how much it pained Jon to see the brunette being with someone else when his feelings for her had just crawled up the grave. He understood how much Jon's mind was fucked up right now and he wouldn't be the one to turn his back on a brother.
Colby had Jon's back. Always.
