Chapter Eleven: Wedding Jitters
"Oh man, I can't believe it! Today has finally arrived!" Freya spun around the room like a madman in her wedding gown as Maria teased up her hair in a messy bun. She giggled at how childish her grandmother could be, and she was older than her.
"That dress looks perfect on you."
"I know, right?" it was a sleeveless wedding dress trimmed with flowery lace and pearls, reaching all the way to the ground, dragging in the back. "You think I should go with the diamond earrings or the ruby ones?"
"Ruby, to match the roses." Maria said as she put the finishing touches on her makeup. Wasn't anything flashy, just some mascara and light lipstick. Freya wouldn't hold still for more than a second, she was so excited.
Same couldn't be said for Smee.
"Oh dear, I'm making such a mess of things…" Smee said as he tried and tried to do the bow on his collar, only for it to look like a big knot. James smiled at the man's flustering. Poor man, and he didn't even reach the alter yet.
Chuckling, James helped Smee undo the dead knot in his bowtie and fixed it to its original look.
"Relax old man, you'll be fine. Just go up to that alter, and when the priest says will you, you say no and run before she breaths fire at you."
"What!?"
"I'm joking, but seriously, you have nothing to fear. You do love her, don't you?"
Smee made a goofy dreamy face,"More than all the treasures in the world."
"Then you got this, now go say I do before she puts you on fire again."
"That only happened once and it was an accident!"
"How do you accidentally breathe fire while starting the oven?"
"She said she got too excited and she would never do it again."
"Yeah, like to see her hold back her excitement when it comes time to kiss the bride."
"C-captain!"
If there ever had to be a time to invent a camera for an unbelievable shot of something, this would be it. The church was bustling with the most eccentric guests to ever gather to a wedding since, well, Halloween. On one side, there were hundreds of Freya's magic friends and our side of the family, along with Gertrude's pirate crew. On the other, a mess of villains who could make it (a few were busy taking over the world, but sent their gifts just the same.) that side was loud with murmurs of Smee finally getting married, err, re-marrying.
Finally, it came time for the two to say their vows.
"I can't believe this is finally happening." Freya whispered as she made her way down the aisle next to Maria.
"You'll be fine, just breathe. Not to hard though." Freya calmed herself as they made their way to the priest and she stared lovingly into Smee's eyes.
Maria made her way over to where James stood as the priest had them renew their vows.
"There's so many people here. Even my mother's crew made it." James gave a small wave to his mother as the whole front row waved back.
"I know, what you think will happen when we get married?"
"We'll have to do it outside for that many people to fit."
"Shh!" Jane and Daniel shushed the couple ion the other side of the alter.
"May I have the rings?" Danny shyly walked up to Smee and handed him the pillow with their antique, finely crafted rings, one a simple gold ring with brass lining of swirls on the edges, the other, a thin gold ring with a small diamond embedded in brass accents of flower petals.
"I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride. Freya jumped on to Smee and planted a long kiss on his lips as the whole room exploded in roars of applause, I think someone even shot a few rounds into the ceiling (Gertrude).
The reception was even noisier. Everyone was either stuffing their faces, or drunk off their…you know what I mean. Freya and Smee were together at the head table feeding each other cake in a very lovingly manner.
Meanwhile, Jane and Danny left for the house, something about "meeting up with an old friend for some fun". I knew who they were talking about and let them be. James disappeared somewhere in the thick of it along with his old crew and his mother, something to do with swords. I was left sitting on the only decent table shyly sipping champagne and eating wedding cake.
"Hey Maria?" Freya and Smee walked up to Maria and sat next to her.
"So, you like this party?"
"I love it, especially the pirates. They sure do know how to make it interesting."
"Say, where's cap'n? Isn't he supposed to be with you?"
"Yeah, but I think he's having an epic showdown with his mom, don't wanna spoil their fun just yet."
"Well, when they finish and they're still breathing, bring him up, we gotta little surprise for him."
"What kind of surprise?"
"A both-of-you-gotta-see-this-for-yourselves kinda surprise."
"Okay, I'll bring him over right now." Maria got up, dusted her dress of crumbs, and headed for the large crowd of people.
After Maria calmly asked James for temporary seize fire on his duel, they headed iside the church to see what the surprise was.
"Hey there, sort-of son in law, there's a man here who says he knows you and would like to say hello." Freya opened the door to the back room of the church revealing a red-headed man around the same age as James.
Maria looked quizzically at him, having no clue as to who he was.
"James, do you know him?" James remained silent for a good two minutes before he responded.
"Roger?"
Ha! I would never leave my readers hanging! And as a twist, I threw in Roger; the man James named his ship after, Jolly Roger. Oh, what glorious ideas will I throw at you next, review!(P.S.-sorry it's a little short)
