Hariel loved working with Sally Poe. She was great at what she did and was eager to help him learn more when Ayumu sensei was not around. But he loved the job itself the best. Healing he found was a true calling for him, even though he knew he would have to take up the Potter lordship soon. His mother was even sending more and more of the work his way as it was. Still, he found himself soaking up the knowledge and flourishing in his job. He was even taking online nursing classes; and was considering evening classes, hoping to become a doctor in his own right.
His work distracted him from the lingering question of if Heero would agree to be his mate. The longer he was silent on the matter the less likely he would. But Hariel found he could push these thoughts out of his mind when he was buried under a mountain of work. And in hindsight he supposed this was the main reason he insisted on so much work. He couldn't bring himself to face the facts Heero would probably turn him down. It did not help that agent Dyksen was the closest to a first mate he had found.
Agent Dyksen was the agent who had taken him up to Trieze's office for their meeting. He insisted upon tailing Hariel like a lost puppy whenever he could. Often times he would attempt to cause trouble for the pilots: most times ending up in the Medical Bay. He would spend his days there trying to get Hariel's attention and boasting about the fights that had put him in the Bay.
"I can't take it anymore!" Hariel finally exclaimed after his thirtieth stay in the Bay.
"If I have to put up with him anymore I'll put him in the hospital myself. Only then I'd still be stuck with him!"
"Would you like me to take him from now on?" Sally asked.
"If you could. He's been nothing but abnoxious since I met him. And there's only so much professionalism I can show."
"All right. Why don't you take the rest of the night off? You look like you could use some relaxation."
Sally's request was not to be denied. She practically forced the young man to leave, threatening to bring back Dyksen if he didn't. Needless to say Hariel fled the building like a bat out of hell. Cursing the fact she knew how to get him to listen now. Just the thought of being forced around Dyksen sent anger shooting up his entire being.
He was so distracted with his thoughts and the anger towards the agent he didn't notice Heero tailing him at a distance. He also didn't notice until it was to late the two men that were obviously British wizards. One wore a blouse and bell-bottoms for crying out loud! The other had bedroom slippers instead of shoes on.
Hariel cursed as he was hit from behind by a body bind jinx. His curses grew worse as he saw his attackers and knew who they were; or rather where they were from. His anger at a creepy agent had gotten him caught by these two wizards. How pathetic was he? Even if the boarders were closed he should remain on his guard. And judging by the look in their eyes he would be in a worse place shortly.
Hariel began blanking his mind. He knew he could not escape his binds. The body bind was too powerful and he had been wrapped in ropes and chains since the first attack. His attackers were taking no risks.
Hariel used a technique he had learned from one of the older Valkierion's at school. He sank into his subconscious and withdrew from the conscious plain. It was the last defense a Valkierion had. And it was deadly dangerous. They could be killed and would only be aware of it a millisecond before the end. It would be worse for Hariel as he had no mate who could call him out of it. The only way he could be removed from this state was either his bond with his family and friends was strong enough to call him back once he was in their care. Or if they found a Valkierion learned in the conscious walks.
The last thing Hariel was conscious of was the triumphant smirks of his attackers and the mouth of one opening, no doubt to brag. He did not hear the words or was aware of anything happening after that. His mind and body nearly completely shut down. His body doing the bare minimum to be considered living. Another risk to this technique as someone could think him dead and bury him alive.
He did not see the two men being shot and unarmed. Nor that they were taken into Preventer custody. He was unaware that his rescuer had knelt down and had sought a pulse. The only fact he was not proclaimed dead was because his rescuer had seen the entire thing and was certain they had not killed him. Trieze was called who in turn called lady Potter. In the end quite a large group was gathered around the unresponsive body.
"What's wrong with him?" Heero demanded. He had been the one to apprehend the men and save the Valkierion. Before he had thought to turn the Valkierion down. He was not the romantic type and knew nothing of dating or family. The closest he got was the pilots. But now he knew he had to re-evaluate his decision.
"He's retreated inside himself. It's the last defense. As you can tell it's very dangerous. Made worse by the fact Hariel doesn't have a mate to draw him out." Liam replied.
"What can we do?" Duo asked.
"I have asked one of my mates to contact a Conscious Walker."
"A what?" Quatere asked.
"They are able to walk through a consciousness, without a mate to pull him free this is the safest way to pull him back to conscious awareness. Otherwise he's practically in a coma."
Ooooooooo
After the group was forced to disband the five pilots returned home. Heero thought of the little Valkierion. He had to admit the young Valkierion was strong. Not to mention resourceful, loyal, and stuborn. He didn't force his will upon others and was professional when needed. Heero knew he could do a lot worse than the younger man as a lover.
But on the otherhand. Heero was not a relationship kind of man. He had a hard time letting others near him. And yet Hariel was able to get close to him, scarily easily. He would have turned him away just for that. But then he had seen those two men, wizards, attack the Valkierion. Something possessive roared to life and he knew he could not let the younger man slip away.
Be it the worse mistake of his life or the best move. Heero now knew he could not let Hariel slip through his grasp again. He would agree to be the Valkierion's first mate. And he would kill anyone who thought they could force or harm his Valkierion.
Note:
Gah! I wrote this, like three different times. And I still am not satisfied. Oh, well, maybe I'll redo it later. I hope all you wonderful readers like it anyway.
Forewarning: I may take a while to post on my story. Not any different, but I'm running out of ideas on what to do. So I'm afraid the story may end soon. At most five to ten chapters if I don't get inspiration.
