CHAPTER 11 - THE FUTURE IS OURS

It was a few days later and I awoke to the sound of music being played from downstairs, Abby heard it too and without saying a word to one another we both knew who was responsible. We got dressed quickly, Abby wearing her usual skirt and t-shirt combination and we made our way downstairs. Once entering the kitchen we were both met with huge hugs from none other than Cat, she had finally moved back in and Paul was smiling broadly from the other side of the room. Paul held up a bag to show us, it was a fresh supply of blood. We still had a little left over in the fridge in the basement but were thankful none the less. As Paul left the room to store our food away with the rest of the supply Cat began with the twenty questions.

"I've missed you both so much, what happened? Is it true Constantine is dead? Are you both safe now?

"Yes Cat we're safe now everything is going to be ok" Abby reassured her.

Cat gave us a shy smile and I was so happy to have our family back together.

"You don't know how worried I've been" Cat admitted to us both. "There's something I need to tell you"

As I watched Cat I noticed she had a tendency to hold her stomach every now and then as if she was protecting it somehow then it dawned on me what her news might be. I saw Abby's reaction too and the two of us smiled as we caught each others eye.

"You're pregnant?" Abby asked before Cat could tell us.

Cat nodded with the largest smile I had ever seen from her as Paul re-entered the kitchen.

"Yes, I had my suspicions before we left but it's been confirmed" Cat continued.

"Why didn't you say anything before?" I asked her.

"That's my fault" Paul interrupted. "With everything that was going on I didn't think you needed anymore distractions"

I understood and I think Abby did too but we were so thrilled for them both Abby and I hugged the pair of them once more.

That night there was plenty of laughter and even some tears truth be told but to be together again and the thought of a new member to our little family made everything that happened with Constantine with Sebastian and even Tara irrelevant, the future was ours and nothing was going to spoil that.

FIVE YEARS LATER

The wedding day was finally here, Cat and Paul had decided to postpone the big day some years ago due to one thing or another but after lot's and I do mean lot's of planning we were all ready. There was a large marquee outside ready for the festivities and Cat and Paul had decided the service would take place in the garden as it would be a glorious summers evening. I'm sure some of the guest's were curious as to why the ceremony was taking place so late on in the evening but it was important to the bride and groom that two people in particular were able to attend. Sebastian had sent his congratulations in a card with an exquisite necklace as gift for the bride, how he knew about the wedding was a mystery but nothing surprised us when it came to him. Paul had chosen me to be his best man which I was honoured to do and as I stood beside him looking down the makeshift aisle the music began to play and first to make an appearance was my favourite little girl in the world. We called her by her nickname 'L.A' as it was short for Little Abby, Paul and Cat had named their daughter after Abby and as she came strolling towards us she stuck her tongue out at both Paul and me she could be cheeky sometimes but it made us both laugh. Next down the aisle came Abby herself, she wore a long satin blue dress and I know the bridesmaid isn't supposed to upstage the bride but Abby was doing a good job of doing exactly that. She looked absolutely stunning and gave me a shy smile as she stood opposite me, I couldn't help but stand in awe of her beauty so much so I didn't notice that the bride was already making her way down the aisle. Luckily I came to my senses in time and the ceremony went ahead without a hitch.

The reception was brilliant and everyone was having a great time, the bride and groom never left each others side and Abby and I spent most of our time watching over L.A. People were dancing and laughing and as the night drew on some of the guests got a little drunk, but of course that was to be expected. It was then that one guy fell and caught his arm on something sharp right in front of me. The smell of the blood even though it was just a little coursed through my nostrils and I could feel the lust to feed take over just then someone grabbed my arm and pulled me outside, it was Abby.

"Come on inside don't worry no one saw you but you need to feed to take away the hunger" she told me.

I followed her inside and down to the basement where I quickly drained a bag of blood immediately quenching my thirst.

"I'm sorry it just took me by surprise" I explained.

"Don't be sorry, it happens to me too remember back in Los Alamos when you first saw me change" Abby reminded me.

I smiled, how could I forget that I thought to myself. We soon rejoined the party and as Abby and I danced we both chuckled watching L.A try to get between Cat and Paul who were also dancing. The rest of the night continued blissfully free of any guests cutting themselves and soon the only people left were the five of us. L.A was shattered and had fallen asleep so Abby and I took her to bed and tucked her in. She was still too young to understand what me and Abby were, all she knew was we needed to sleep during the day and were not to be disturbed, but all in all she was a well behaved girl and Abby and I loved her very much.

It was a week or two later and Abby and I decided to take a walk to our favourite spot by the lake. The weather was nice and the moon was full in the sky above us. Seeing Cat and Paul get married had made me think that sadly some things could never happen for me and Abby like they do for normal people. How could we get married some day when we never aged never got older? Abby turned and looked at me.

"Something's on your mind what is it?" She asked me.

"It's silly, I was just thinking that it would be impossible for us to get married considering we don't age" I told her.

Abby stared at me for a short time then smiled.

"What? What are you smiling at?" I asked curiously.

"When has the impossible ever stopped us" She answered with a giggle.

I chuckled shyly too and Abby placed her head on my shoulder. That's when I decided to just go for it.

"So Abby, if I did ask you what would you say?"

"Are you asking me?" She teased.

I didn't answer straight away and Abby removed her head from my shoulder and manoeuvred so she was kneeling in front of me and staring deep into my eyes. Just then a wide smile beamed across her face and I couldn't help but ask the question.

"Abby with us eternity really does mean exactly that so will you…..marry me?"

"You know I will" She replied smiling from ear to ear as she flung her arms around me.

We spent the rest of the night in each others arms, it didn't matter how old we looked I knew we'd find a way to marry somehow someday. All I knew was in that moment I had everything I could ever want and I felt like I was the happiest person alive and nothing was ever going to change that…...ever!
