Three months later Kathleen and Charlie found themselves in the middle of an assault in one of the clothing boutiques they were shopping. It was a crazy ex-boyfriend of one of the cashiers that worked there. There was only one other customer in the store when the gunned man stormed inside and demanded everyone freeze on the spot. The girls both thought frantically of ways to get the situation under control and get out alive. Before they knew it the one other customer in the store, a girl who looked around their age took action somehow tripped him from behind, knocked the gun out of his hand and sprayed him with pepper spray. She grabbed the gun as the assailant was blinded and knocked him out with the butt of the gun. Both Kathleen and Charlie stood there in amazement from the skills this girl of fifteen or sixteen displayed right in front of them. Sirens were heard and the mysterious girl ran off as if she wanted to hide her identity. Kathleen and Charlie just sat there stunned.

"Please tell me you got that on video or something." Kathleen said with amazement.

"I wish Kat, I wish, but I did get a good look at her face."

(A/N: reminder this story is about to coordinate with Small World. Detective Nate Kendall and Detective Brian Cassidy (from law and order SVU) are half brothers to Hawaii 5-0's, Danny Williams (per MY version of the story). While Danny and Mandy are on their honeymoon. Ainsley has a modeling job in NY. Danny asked his brothers to let her stay with them and they agreed to it. This info is for those of you not familiar with Small World.)

Detective Nate Kendall brought the girls into the SVU precinct once Kathleen told him her father was stationed there. His brother, Brian, was also stationed there and just wanted to see the girls got back safely. The girls were greeted right away by Detective Elliot Stabler. He hugged Kathleen then brought Charlie in for a hug as well.

"Are you girls okay? I just heard." He said feeling a bit shaky over what could have happened.

"It was crazy dad, Charlie and I were just shopping, well, window shopping, when this lunatic just ran in. We think he was like an ex-boyfriend to one of the cashiers. He kept saying things like, you can't leave me for him Loraine, but then this other girl came up from behind and totally kicked his butt." Kathleen described.

"Yeah, the girl definitely had some ninja skills or something but I think she got cut on the arm." Charlie added.

"He had a gun and a knife?" Elliot reiterated as he hugged the girls again.

"I'm so sorry Charlie." Kathleen said feeling a bit embarrassed over how her father was being extra affectionate.

Charlie smiled, "Honestly, it's totally okay, I missed out on getting a lot of hugs from my dad so…yeah."

Kathleen's embarrassment quickly turned to becoming humbled and hugged her own father back along with Charlie. Elliot's care for Charlie grew even stronger at that moment. At first he wasn't too sure about her when they first met, but, over the last few months she has really grown into his heart and become a good family friend, along with her brother, Harvey.

"Charlie! Oh my God." Harvey said with an evident sigh of relief. "Elliot called and told me you were on your way here." He mentioned as he hugged her close then pulled her away for direct eye contact. "I'm just so glad you're okay. I just got you back, I can't lose you again."

"I'm fine Harvey, honest." Charlie said as she hugged her big brother back then let go. "Crazy people with knives and guns isn't totally alien to me. It's no big."

"No big?" Harvey sighed, "Oh little girl I swear you're going to give me pre-mature gray hair.

"Okay, well, I have a lot of paper work to fill out. I just wanted to personally make sure you girls got back to safety." Nate stated.

"Wait, so are you going to look for that girl?" Kathleen asked.

"Well, she didn't do anything wrong, she's certainly a hero. She may not want to be found."

"Would you at least like a description of her?" Charlie asked.

"You got a good look at her?" Nate asked.

"Yeah, she had reddish blond hair, ummm about my height, so like 5'7 and she looked to be between 15 or 16," said Charlie, "We also have her jacket that she left behind." She handed it over to Nate as she realized she was still holding it. Nate accepted it as he continued to listen and take notes.

"Supery pretty, like pretty like Charlie kind of pretty." Kathleen stated.

Charlie found herself blushing and unconsciously hid her face as she leaned into her big brother, Harvey. He wrapped a protective around her shoulders and kissed the top of her head.

"She had an athlete's body but like a runner not a body builder. And the thing is, I feel like I have seen her somewhere before, I just can't place it." Kathleen added.

NYNY

Ainsley walked into the station and stopped at the front desk.

"Hi, would you please let my uncle, Detective Cassidy, know that Ainsley is here to see him?"

Brian happened to have been walking by at that time and overheard. He had a concerned look at his face.

"Hey sweetheart, I thought you were working today, everything o…what happened to your arm?" He asked wide eyed as he took hold of her arm in his hand.

"I'm okay, it's just a cut."

"Just a cut, it's bleeding through your bandage. Did it happen at the shoot?"

"No, it happened while on a very long break. It was due to something about all the props being wrong and our photographer needing time to think of a new vision or something. So, anyway, I went for a little walk in these heels and slipped and my arm got caught on something sharp."

"Where did you get the bandage?"

"At one of the clothing stores, their first aid kit."

"You just walked into a store here in New York and asked for a bandage and they gave you one?"

"Ummm yeah, why is that surprising?"

"It's New York."

"And?"

"Just a bit surprised at the hospitality; however, I'm sure you get a lot of free things having a pretty face such as yours."

"Thanks, I guess, but I think I get "free" assistance simply because I ask nicely. Are you always this skeptical?"

Brian started laughing, "No, I'm a realist and okay, I suppose that is always a possibility…doubtful, but possible. Anyway, come on; let me clean that cut up a bit more for you." He said as he turned to head toward the back. She followed.

"Oh my God, that's her, that's the girl who brought down the gunman." Kathleen stated as she looked directly at Ainsley who had just entered the area..

Nate turned around, "Are you sure?"

"Yeah, that's totally her," Charlie confirmed.

Nate called out as he also saw his brother and gestured them over, "Brian, Ainsley."

Brian looked over then looked at his niece, "let's just see what he wants really fast."

Ainsley recognized the two girls and wanted to bolt but knew that wouldn't be a smart option. Nate was looking at her with a state of pride. Brian didn't have a clue what was going on.

"What is it?" Brian asked once in ear shot.

Nate kept it cool; he wanted to see if his niece would admit to anything.

"Oh, umm nothing, I was just surprised to see Ainsley here. Is everything okay?"

"Yeeyeah, I just found myself with a free day due to the photographer having a bit of a tantrum."

"I thought it was the models that were supposed to have tantrums?" Nate smirked.

"Ha ha Uncle Nate."

"That's it!" Kathleen burst, "that's where I know you from, I just saw you on the cover of the sports illustrated swimsuit edition. You're REALLY pretty…Oh my God, I can't believe I just said that."

"It's okay, and thanks. I think you're pretty too." Ainsley replied as her mother taught her to always do what she could to boost the esteem of another girl whenever possible. Real girls empower one another. Not destroy each other.

Kathleen blushed, "Wow, umm thank you."

Elliot held his hand out to shake, "Hi, I'm Elliot; I work with your uncles, mostly Brian."

Ainsley reached out her arm and it became very apparent of her injury.

"What happened to your arm?" Nate asked.

"Oh, yeah, I slipped in these heels earlier and as I was catching myself my arm got caught on something sharp, no biggy."

"Slipped?" Nate asked dubiously, "with your ninja like skills?"

"Wh what are you talking about?" Ainsley asked nervously.

"Sweetheart, we know you're the one."

"The one, what?" Brian asked with a quizzical look upon his face.

Nate explained everything and filled Brian in. Brian then looked over at Ainsley.

"Is this true?"

"What? No, that wasn't me. It's totally a coincidence."

"Well, I have the girl's jacket. How about you put it on and if it doesn't fit you then okay, we will believe you." Nate suggested.

"Why can't you just believe me?"

"Because we have two witnesses here that swear it was you and the cut on the arm is just TOO much of a coincidence."

Ainsley took the jacket but didn't bother trying it on. "Fine, okay, it was me. Can we possibly NOT tell my parents? They will totally freak, especially my dad."

Harvey walked back in as he stepped away earlier due to an important phone call. Ainsley had her back toward him but turned. They looked at each other with utter disbelief but it quickly turned to big smiles.

"Ley Ley bear!" Harvey stated as went in for a hug.

"Harvey!" She said hugging him back.

He pulled her back, "I am really happy to see you but am not very thrilled that it's in a police station. Explain quickly why you're here." Harvey said with a fatherly quirk in his eye.

Charlie, herself knew that look well at this point and was really surprised to see him use it on some random girl.

"I'm here to see my uncles. I'm staying with them during a modeling job for the next couple of weeks."

"Uncles? I thought your mother was an only child and congratulations on making it as a model. I remember that is what you were aiming for when we last saw each other."

"Thanks and my mom is an only child. These are my uncles by marriage. My mom, ummm she just…"

Harvey smiled sweetly at her, "its okay Ley Ley bear, I'm gathering that you are trying to tell me your mother is married now?"

"Yeah, like less than a week ago. She's on her honeymoon as we speak."

"Does that mean Jago and Kash are here in New York?"

"Noooo actually they are home with our dad."

"Your dad? It's only been a little over a year since I have seen all of you. You now have two dads?"

"Yeah, maybe we can have dinner before I leave. I can explain it all to you. Wait, what are you doing here? You have a client here or something?"

"What, oh, I'm here because my sister was involved in an incident with a crazy gunman…Ainsley, this is my sister…"

"Charlie?!" Ainsley asked excitedly. "Which one?"

"Me." Charlie said softly.

Ainsley just went in and hugged her then quickly pulled away.

"Oh, I'm sorry, it's just that Harvey told us about you and that he would never stop looking for you. I'm just really happy you found each other."

"Me too, sooo how do you know my brother?"

"He and my mom were engaged but then they broke up because they were both too into their careers."

"Hey, I'm standing right here." Harvey stated with a smirk.

"Wait, so the girl that totally saved us from that crazy person was once going to be your step-daughter? Wow, this is a small world." Kathleen suddenly stated looking at Harvey.

"Saved you? THIS is the girl…Ainsley, you are my hero." Harvey said as he hugged her again.

After a moment he pulled away and looked directly into her eyes, "As thrilled as I am for your quick thinking and bravery, what were you thinking?! You could have gotten yourself killed!"

Ainsley turns to her uncles, "See, this is why you can't tell my parents, please."

Brian rests a hand on both of her shoulders, "Ainsley, look, your parents may be a bit upset but more than anything they will be very proud. They will want to know. I know I would want to know if I had a kid that was as brave as you are."

"Really?"

"Really, I promise."

"Okay, but can it maybe at least wait a bit? The past couple of hours have been kinda crazy. I just need some time to process what happened."

"Sure sweetie, and speaking of I really need to re-bandage your cut."

"Oh yeah, okay." Ainsley answered then looked at Harvey, "So ummm maybe I can see you again before I leave home to Hawaii?"

"Oh most definitely. In fact, considering the huge life event all three of you girls went through I think we should take you out and celebrate the fact that it ended on a happy note and not a tragic one as we all know it could have." Harvey stated simply.

"I second that," said Elliot, "how about we all meet up for dinner around 7:30?"

"Perfect," said Harvey, "I'll make the arrangements, how many should I plan for?"

"With the seven of us here and then my wife and son at home, I guess that would be nine. Unless of course you each have others to bring." Elliot suggested.

"Harvey, is Mike still around? I would love to see him again, if possible." Ainsley stated.

"He is and he's even engaged right now, I'll invite them both." He said with a smile.

"Are you, umm, are you engaged to anyone now?"

"No, but I am dating someone. Her name is Scotty; I would like to bring her tonight to meet you. That is, if you're okay with that."

"Yeah, of course, I mean, it's not like you and my mom are going to get together now."

"I know, but, well…"

"I know, it's cool, I really truly would like to meet her." Ainsley smiled sincerely.

The officer from the front desk appeared, "Excuse me, Ainsley, there is a woman by the name, Bea, here to see you."

"Who's Bea?" Nate asked his niece.

"My agent."

"Send her back." Brian replied.

A few moments later a lady in her mid forties, dressed to the nine, perfect hair and makeup, she made her way over quickly.

"Ainsley, sweetheart, thank goodness you are okay." She said as she gave her a half of a hug.

"Umm yeah, I'm fine, what are you talking about though? How did you even know I was here?" Ainsley asked as she figured there was no chance she could have known what had happened.

"I called your limo driver; he told me where you were."

"You took a limo here?" Nate interrupted.

"Yeah, why not? Always arrive in style; you only have one chance to make a first impression…" Ainsley grinned and turned to the six foot tall Adonis. "Harvey actually taught me that. Remember Harvey?"

He grinned from ear to ear, "I do Ley Ley bear and I'm thrilled to see you applying my advice. Oh, and sorry, Bea was it? Why else are you here?"

"Yes, well, Ainsley darling, you may have been doing well with modeling jobs before, but now, oh, the offers will be pouring in."

"What are you talking about?" Ainsley asked.

"It's all over youtube and twitter, facebook, snapchat, and instagram. The brave thing you did in that boutique. The cashier was really in the moment. She had her manager take the video of their surveillance and posted it looking for you. She wanted to thank you for saving her life."

Before Bea finished her statement, Charlie had looked it up and found it. She hit play, "here it is."

All four men gathered around the phone to watch. Once it was over all four looked at Ainsley a bit dumbfounded. It took a moment for anyone to speak.

"Wow Ainsley, that guy was twice your size." Nate stated.

"And you were right when you told your dad at the airport how you could take care of yourself, very impressive," Brian added, "however, he was also right to have you carry the pepper spray wasn't he?"

"Yeah, it may have come in handy."

"It was still really risky, you have skills but you still have a lot to learn. I can see by the video how you got cut. It's because you turned your back for that split second. Never take your eye off your target, ever. You're extremely lucky the cut is mostly superficial." Nate stated firmly.

"Oh, that's right, your arm, you won't need stitches will you?" Bea asked.

"No, it's not that deep."

"Thank God." Harvey added.

"Okay, well, I just had to see you in person to make sure you were safe and to tell you how proud I am of you. Also, make sure you're in bed by 9:30. We have a REALLY big day tomorrow after your shoot. What happened today changes everything, lots of interviews." Bea stated excitedly.

"Okay, I will." Ainsley answered a bit robotic.

"Good, good, okay then, I see you are in good hands, I'll see you tomorrow dear."

Bea half hugged her again then scurried off.

"So does this mean dinner is off?" Charlie asked once Bea left.

Ainsley turned to her, "Why would it be off? I don't have to be anywhere else tonight."

"Oh, well, she said she wanted you in bed by 9:30 and we aren't even meeting for dinner until like 7:30. I guess we could have a quick dinner."

"What? Pffftt, yeah, she can try to give me a bedtime all she wants, I only agreed to make her go away."

"Wait, you wouldn't do that to us would you?" Nate asked as he looked over at Brian and back over to Ainsley.

"Ppffft, no way, never." Ainsley replied then purposely looked over at Charlie and Kathleen and playfully rolled her eyes.

"I saw that." Said Brian smirking. He lifted her up and over his shoulder, "we need to clean your arm, no more stalling. Harvey, everyone, we will see you at dinner."

Ainsley was giggling and half trying to get down as Brian carried her off. "Harvey, help me." She pretended.

"Oh no sweetheart, you got yourself into that one. I'm afraid you'll have to pay the price." He chuckled as he watched her play like she was being taken dramatically against her will.

Later that evening…7:30 dinner

In the restaurant Ainsley met the rest of the Stabler family, received a couple hugs from Mike, met his fiancée, Rachel and Harvey's girlfriend, Scotty. She was sitting in between both of her uncle's and up against a wall so getting up and down from the table would be challenging. Her phone vibrated and her instincts told her to look. Her blue eyes went wide.

"Is everything okay?" Harvey asked.

"I'm sorry, I know its rude but this is my dad, I HAVE to take this…"(clears throat) and hits answer, "hiiiii daddy, what's up?"

"What's up!? Don't act all innocent with me little girl…Sorry, FIRST, are you okay?

"Yeah, I'm okay."

"Okay good, now…I honestly don't know if I should fly over there and hug you or spank you…maybe both."

Ainsley wanted to duck under the table. She just knew everyone had to have heard her father's booming voice through the phone. She tried to hide her blushed cheeks.

"Mmmm daddy, I'm surrounded by a lot of people. Is there annnnyy chance we can just text each other?"

That question made all of the adults just shake their head. Their looks alone made her cringe at her now regrettable question.

"Text you!? Oh no, trust me, I'm already upset. If I text you, that is a guarantee death sentence to your social life for all eternity."

"Okay, okay, sorry. So I take it you saw the video?"

"Yes, your brothers were watching it; I snuck up behind them to see what they were so impressed about. You may be very skilled but you certainly aren't trained enough yet. Turning your back and then getting cut proves it. Did you need stitches?"

"No."

"Good, but can you see how you took a huge risk on your life?!"

"What was I supposed to do daddy, just watch her get shot?"

"Call the police Ainsley, you know that one."

"Call the police? Yeah okay because the police can magically poof at the scene of a crime and stop the bad guy in time right? I think you of all people, Lieutenant Commander, should know that's not possible."

"But Ainsley…"

"But daddy, you didn't see the look in her eyes…" Tears began to fall down the young girl's unblemished face. "I know that look cuz I know that feeling…remember…I, I just had to protect her."

Harvey was the only one at that table who knew what happened to Ainsley when she was only twelve. She was only seconds away from being raped before her brother, Kash, hit her attacker over the head with his baseball bat. Harvey reached across and handed a handkerchief over. Ainsley accepted it and softly cried for a few moments while Brian held her close. Steve too was very quiet and then he spoke.

"Hug you."

Ainsley sniffled a couple of times, "What?"

"If I were to fly over there…I would just…hug you."

"So, (sniffle), does that mean I'm not grounded for all eternity?"

"No, you're not grounded; however, there is a condition. It's for my own peace of mind and once your mother and Danny find out, it'll be for theirs too. It's just in your nature to help people and I adore that about you, but, baby girl, you just don't have the experience yet and you keep getting hurt. I got an old Navy buddy of mine to help. He owed me a huge favor so I cashed it in. I was really lucky to discover he was already there in New York visiting his dad."

"What he going to do?"….Are you serious? But Daddy…"

"Look, he has had impeccable training and many years of experience. If you should run into needing to help someone again, HE can take care of it for you. That's the deal Ainsley. I need you to accept it with grace or you're on the next flight home, I don't care what your agent says, you're MY daughter and I need you to stay safe."

Ainsley dabbed a few more tears from her eyes and took a deep breath. "Okay, I accept, I won't fight you on it."

"Good, very good. Okay my little ninja princess, he will be there soon to meet you."

"How did you even know where I was?"

"I'm 5-0 baby girl, never doubt 5-0."

She sniffled and playfully rolled her eyes…"I love you daddy."

"I love you too. I'll talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

Ainsley hung up the phone, "I'm really sorry everyone, that was my dad, he was kinda freaking out for a second."

"It appeared to end on a good note though, yes?" Mike inquired.

"Yeah, in exchange of me not being grounded for life, while I'm in New York, I'll have a bodyguard with me at all times."

"Your dad really doesn't have any faith in us does he?" Nate asked.

"It's not that. It's because you guys have to work and he wants someone with me practically 24/7. He's just going to be with me when you guys are working. When one of you is off then this guy will go back to visiting his dad or something."

"Mmmm okay then, so who is this guy?" Brian asked.

Someone then said, "hello." Everyone looked over at a tall, ruggedly handsome man in his late thirties dressed in designer attire. "I'm here to meet Ainsley and her two uncles', Nate and Brian?"

"And you are?" Nate asked simply to be sure it was who he thought it was.

"I'm NCIS, Special Agent, Tony DiNozzo."

Ainsley looked over at him and thought, well, if I have to be stuck with this guy, at least he's cute.
