Blue eyes blinked open slowly, awoken by the light but steady raindrops pelting the house and the low rumbling of thunder off in the distance. Grumbling something incoherent into his pillow, he made a futile attempt to go back to sleep, though nature seemed to have other plans, the storm quickly intensifying. Monsoon season was still in full swing for the island, but most of its residents couldn't wait for it to end, tired of the early morning and late night thunderstorms.
"How can you sleep through this?" He chuckled, watching his still sleeping lover. Her eyes were shut tightly while a small smile curved her lips while the storm raged outside. "You need it though," he smiled, climbing out of the bed, deciding he wasn't going to be able to fall back asleep any time soon. He would let her sleep a while longer, the brunette needing the rest after wearing herself out moving her things into her new home.
Pouring himself a cup of coffee, he grinned, his house nearly unrecognizable now. It was huge, decorated with the finest furnishings money could buy. Plush sofas. The latest in electronics. Pricey artwork. He had it all. But there had always been a sort of emptiness about the place. It had never truly felt like home. Or maybe it was because he was rarely here for very long, opting instead for late nights at the poker tables and bars.
"Now it's home," he smiled, taking a sip from the steaming mug. Before he had met her, he had never let anyone get too close, always keeping others at arm's length after watching the way his father had treated his mother. Deep down, he had been worried he would end up like the icy man, so he had kept his distance, pretending like the loneliness hadn't bothered him. But it had. One look at her was all it took. He had needed someone to fill the empty void in his heart he hadn't even wanted to admit was there.
"We needed each other," he looked out the window, the storm beginning to lessen. The thunder and lightning were no longer so close and the rain had let up. He had been able to see the loneliness in her dark eyes, the brunette not able to hide it from him. It had been the same look that had haunted his own. Maybe that was what had drawn them to each other? He shrugged, not understanding any of it. All he knew was that neither of them had to be alone anymore.
He still couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. She had left everything behind to stay here with him, giving up her job, family, and friends. He had wanted more than anything for her not to go, as selfish as it was. For the first time he was truly happy. But was she? It had to be hard on her, starting a new life far away from the only one she knew for so long.
"You're up early," a familiar voice startled him from his introspection, slender arms winding around his chest. He leaned into her embrace, her closeness and warmth bringing a smile to his face.
"The storm," he admitted, his smile growing as her lips brushed his cheek. "It gave me a chance to think at least," he got up to fix her a cup of coffee, smirking at her attempts at a protest.
"Everything okay?" She asked a hint of worry in her voice. She had stood there watching him for a little while, silently leaning against the doorway. He hadn't noticed her, seeming to be lost in his thoughts.
They had both been slowly adjusting to the way things were now. So much had changed in such a short time. She thought she had it all figured out, deciding that the risk of history repeating itself was just too high. She had thought she had been content the way things were, pushing the feelings of loneliness deep into the recesses of her mind. But everything changed, seemingly in the blink of an eye.
She had him now. Had a new home. Had found a new job at one of the city's most prestigious architecture firms. She still missed her old life, not being able to see her family and friends as much as she'd like, but she would've missed him more. It would take some time to get used to all the changes, but she was happier than she had remembered being in a long time.
"Are you happy here?" He looked away, worried that she had regretted her decision. That she would somehow grow to resent him.
"Huh?" The brunette raised an eyebrow in confusion. "What made you think I wasn't happy here?"
"You gave up so much…,"
"Idiot," she smiled, ruffling his hair. "I do miss home. I won't deny that. But if I had gotten on that plane, I'd have missed you more," she tapped the tip of his nose for added emphasis.
"I just thought maybe you regretted staying."
"Not at all," she shook her head. "I would've regretted getting on that plane. The time I spent here with you I was happier than I had been in a long time," she smiled, remembering the time they had been able to steal. Walks along the beach. Stargazing. Dinners at quiet seaside cafes. She hadn't been able to give any of that up, deciding she didn't want to hide from love anymore.
"Sorry," he sighed, knowing his worry was probably unfounded, but relieved none the less. "I am an idiot," he admitted, still not used to sharing his life with someone. She had been adding her own touches to the house, even planting the flowers he had bought her so she could have a garden just like the one she had back home.
"Oh?" Her smile grew wicked, her dark eyes suddenly flashing. "Maybe I need to prove it to you then," she purred before capturing his lips with her own.
"I am a bit of a slow learner," he chuckled, letting her lead him to their bedroom, shutting the door behind them.
"I'll make sure to make it very clear," she peeled off his t-shirt and pajama bottoms, her hands exploring his chiseled frame, smirking proudly at his reaction to her attention.
"Murrue…….," he growled, voice barely coherent when her hands slipped even lower. Her teasing was driving him closer to the brink of insanity, his earlier insecurities now forgotten. Fingers clawing at her clothing, he made quick work of the fabric, carelessly tossing it across the room. His hands did some exploring of their own, tracing the outline of her voluptuous curves.
No more words needed, she pushed him down on top of the soft mattress. Climbing on top of him, she looked down, smirking proudly at the hungry look darkening his blue eyes. Leaning over, her lips grazed his before sliding down his neck, the attention earning her breathless moans. Bucking his hips up in response, he grinned impishly at her reaction. "Now you've done it," she gasped, pushing back against him.
He chuckled, pulling her down for another kiss. Their bodies soon entwined, their movements were slow, both of them wanting this to last as long as possible. Sensations finally building up to a crescendo, she collapsed on top of him. They could only hold onto each other as the tidal wave of pleasure crashed against them, leaving both of them struggling for breath.
"Do you believe me now?" She asked later, her fingers lazily running through his hair.
"Yeah," he smiled, relaxing into her touch. "But I might need a little more convincing," his grin grew wicked. Life here was going to be interesting to say the least.
