Chapter 11-
Right when you think you know what to say
Someone comes along and shows you a brand new way
Drew looked at her for a minute then shrugged, "I mean here's the thing super human good looks, I've always had them. Born with it." He bent down to put the sticks in the flame.
May zoned out -as he continued on- and looked at the satchel behind the tree.
Behind the bushes, Butch and James stepped out to get to them. Marraine held out a hand to stop them.
"Patience boys.." She purred, "All good things to those who wait." Her eyes gleamed maliciously as the Rocket brothers submitted to her command.
XOXOX
The sun bore down on our two heroes. The fire in the middle, extinguished sometime during the night, was black and charred. May slept on one side, her head on her hands and her hair all over her like a blanket.
Drew slept on the other side of the -now extinguished- fire, his head on a stone. A butterfree flew above the two and sprinkled some sparkle down on the sleeping pair.
A drop of some liquid fell on Drew's cheek. He stirred in his sleep but didn't wake up. Another fell and hit his cheek.
Drew groaned and opened his eyes wearily to see Flames standing over him, sweat trickling from his forehead.
"Well, I hope you're here to apologize." Drew muttered, still half asleep.
Flames tossed his head in anger and grabbed Drew's foot in his mouth. He was strictly ordered not to use his fire unless an official told him to.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Drew shouted as May jumped up from her position, making Torchic -who was curled up next to her- jump as well.
May reacted quickly and ran to Drew and grabbed his hands in her own.
Flames didn't let go however and a tug of war ensued between the Pokemon and the determined girl.
Torchic came running up behind May and fired an ember at Flames. It hit him on the face and although it didn't do much damage, it caused Drew's shoe to slip off and for Flames to fall back with the footwear.
Drew was promptly tossed onto May and she quickly pushed him off.
Flames shook his head and with the shoes still in his mouth, advanced towards Drew menacingly.
May promptly slipped between the two.
"Whoooaaah!" She held her hands out and blocked Flames's path to Drew -who had quickly scrambled up a rock.
Flames tried to dodge around May but she was too quick for him and he finally settled down, "Easy boy.. easy.." May said soothingly.
Flames looked into May's big blue eyes and his eyes widened. May took this as a good sign, "That's it.." she cooed. Flames eyes traveled up to May's head where Torchic sat. It smirked at him and the big Pokemon blinked rapidly.
"Now sit." The command made him look back down to the girl.
His lower back went down slightly but he kept it in the air a little bit stubbornly.
"Sit." May said sternly and Flames plopped down on his backside.
"What?" Drew said indignantly from behind.
"Now drop the shoe." May ordered pointing to the grass, ignoring Drew. Flames looked at her through half lidded eyes.
"Drop it." May said sternly, looking at Flames from the side of her face, daring him to disobey her.
Flames reluctantly let go of the boot, his eyes locked on May. "Aww.." May cooed as soon as the boot was out of his mouth.
"You're such a good boy!" May muttered patting and rubbing Flames on the top of his head. Flames's tail started thumping like a dog's.
"Yes you are!" May laughed as Flames rubbed his head against May's cheek.
"You're all tired form chasing the bad man all over the place?" May shook her head at Flames sympathetically.
Flames nodded his head vigorously as an indignant "Excuse me?!" erupted from Drew, behind May.
"Nobody appreciates you, do they?" May continued ignoring Drew completely and hugging Flames around the neck.
Flames hung his head sadly.
"Oh come on! He's a bad pokemon!" Drew couldn't stop himself anymore. Was he feeling jealous? Of a horse pokemon?
"Oh come on!" May stuck her tongue out at Drew, "He's nothing but a big sweet-heart!" She rubbed Flames's head again.
"Isnt that right-" May paused as she tickled his chin and got a peek at a crest on his neck. On it was written 'Flames' In cursive with a symbol of the sun, "Flames?"
Flames neighed happily as Drew crossed his arms over his chest, "You've got to be kidding me."
Flames stiffened and glared at Drew and May sighed.
"Look-" She started looking at Flames carefully, "-today is kind-of the biggest day of my life." She tilted her head upside down to be able to look Flames in the eyes as he had his head slouched, "And the thing is..." She slowly left Flames and walked over to where Drew was sitting, leaning against a rock, his arms still crossed over his chest.
"I need you to not get him-" She pointed at Drew as she pulled him off the ground, "-arrested."
Flames's face showed a look of utter horror.
"Just for twenty-four hours and then you can chase each other to your heart's content." May bargained.
Drew faked a hurt look as May pouted at him. He then sighed and held out his hand for Flames to shake.
The Horse Pokemon turned his head away in disgust.
"And its.. also my birthday.." May muttered through her teeth, just loud enough to be audible by both males, "Just so you know." she added innocently.
Flames glared at nothing in particular and then sighed just like Drew had done. He put his paw in Drew's still outstretched hand and they shook hands for a brief moment, glaring at each other.
May's eyes shifted up to the sky and she walked forward, looking up.
She broke apart Flame's and Drew's handshake and both males stared at her as she walked ahead.
Flames's eyes never left May but he lifted a hoof and rammed it into Drew's side.
Drew doubled up in pain with a "Oof!" and fell to the ground as Flames grinned with satisfaction.
