Chapter 11: Burning Crimson
Blood, the ever flowing beautiful crimson liquid that sustained the life inside us, was overflowing in the streets of the marketplace by now. It had been a massacre and now…there was only more blood to be shed. Alexander, the boy that had once brought hope to the Spider Riders, was now…different. Dark, evil. But was this really him? Cyan, his loyal spider watched the scene before him completely numb. It was happening all over again, but this time it was different. Portia struggled beneath him desperate to get to her rider, but her attempts were fruitless.
What has everything come to?
The sound of flesh being pierced sounded throughout the market place, more crimson being spilled. Alexander cried out in pain, falling to his knees in agony. Pain! So much pain shooting throughout his body. Shaking hands gripped his blade which had been embedded into his upper torso. At the last moment he had done it…he got back control of himself. Sapphire hues, no longer crimson, looked to Aqune's frightened face. The girl was still, frozen by fear.
"I-I did it Aqune…a-at the last s-second I was able to…able to," Alexander tried to find the words, but it was so hard to think. Feeling more of his strength escaping him, he fell back.
Expecting to hit the hard, bloodied ground, he blinked in surprise as he was caught. A breath escaping him, he looked up to see Aqune, more tears were gushing down her cheeks, falling onto his face.
"A-Alexander! Alexander…," she cried out, leaning down to press their foreheads together. He had managed to break control of whatever it was that was controlling him…but now he was severely wounded. She noticed how the boy's eyes began to droop, threatening to close forever. "N-No!" she said resolutely, cupping his face. "Stay with me, Alexander! Do not leave, don't you dare close your eyes!"
The dark haired boy coughed up blood and looked up at the purple haired girl. "I-I…just want to sleep," he said softly, looking down at the cursed necklace that was around Aqune's neck. Reaching up he grabbed it, yanking it off and tossing it to the side.
Cyan, in shock of what had just happened to his rider, let go of Portia, who immediately went to Aqune's side.
"B-Boy!" Cyan said, scurrying over as well. He hadn't expected this! There had to be something he could do!
Alexander stared blankly up at Aqune. Was this how it was going to end? He wouldn't make it back home? "A-Aqune.." He began, but was shushed gently.
"Don't speak Alexander, save your energy," Aqune said, looking down to his wound and grimacing. He had gotten hurt because of her, she was never going to be able to forgive herself for this.
Suddenly voices were heard in the distance.
"Alexander!" Yelled Corona and Hunter who were riding towards them on their spiders. When they saw his state they stopped, paling.
"What happened?!" Hunter asked, eyes wide as he looked to his fallen comrade.
Corona bumped him on the head, causing him to yelp and rub it. "We'll ask questions later Hunter! For now we have to get him back to the palace!"
With haste they traveled back to the palace, sending out guards to look for Buguese who had disappeared when the other riders had arrived. Medics worked quickly to heal Alexander using everything they could. The boy had fallen into a deep slumber… The mark on his back glowing on and off.
Alexander drifted through the darkness of his mind, lost, completely unaware of what was going on. He looked around at the darkness that stretched out endlessly.
You failed, a voice echoed through the dark recesses.
"F-Failed? What do you mean?" He asked, looking around more frantically. What was that voice? Where was it coming from? This presence…it was dark, cold and unforgiving. Everything began to click at once and he raised his fists.
"You! You were the one that was in my head before! What do you want?!" He yelled out angrily looking around for any sign of the other. He heard footsteps coming towards him and looked to where they were coming from.
Burning crimson hues looked at him from the darkness.
"Me? I simply want all the Invectids dead," he said casually, his dark silhouette lingering a few feet from the boy.
"D-Dead? They are a threat, but really it's Lord Mantid that is the problem!" Alexander tried to reason.
A dark chuckle resonated after his words and the figure shook his head. "The two races could never live in peace, they've fought for centuries, I would know."
Alexander narrowed his gaze and took a step back. "You would know? You were there?"
The figure stepped out of the darkness, revealing himself. Crimson hues burning with deep hatred and agony looked at cool sapphire, black locks similar to Alexander's framed his face and spiked out in the black, he wore beaten armor with a cut on his chest. It looked to have been from a sword being impaled into him. A smirk appeared on his lips and he tilted his head. "I know because I've suffered this whole time watching the world's inhabitants fight. Nothing has changed…because I was foolish." Taking a step forward he looked down at Alexander. "My name is Jason."
Alexander's eyes widened and the mark on his back began to burn causing him to cry out and fall to his knees. He tried gripping at his back as if it would try to stop the pain.
"I was trying to fix things. My mistakes. That's why…" He gripped Alexander's dark locks and yanked them back so their gazes met. "Aqune must die."
Darkness began to seep into his vision and soon he didn't feel anything at all.
In the recovery room…
Aqune never left Alexander's side, watching as he slept. By some miracle the doctors had managed to heal his wounds. She was grateful…her own wounds had healed since it had already been a week. She watched him silently and perked up when she saw him stir.
"A-Alexander?" Aqune asked gently, leaning forward to get a better view of his face.
The dark haired boy continued to stir, until he opened his eyes abruptly. Aqune gasped, sitting back in her seat as the other began to sit up. Turning his head, crimson hues stared at Aqune.
"Alexander?" She asked somewhat fearfully. Those were the same cold eyes that seemed to guarantee her demise. The boy broke the gaze and blinked rubbing his eyes.
"Mm…huh? Aqune?" He asked, looking back to her. This time it was sapphire hues that met her own light purple ones.
"Alexander?"
He nodded, and yelped as he was suddenly hugged tightly.
"I-I thought…you were gone." She whispered looking up at him. Alexander shook his head and smiled brightly.
"Nu-uh, I'm not leaving you, Aqune," he said reassuringly and hugged her back. He looked to the white wall in front of him, sapphire hues deep in thought. He was…afraid.
Afraid of losing control.
Of losing Aqune…
Pulling back he looked at her pretty hues. "I need to speak with the prince."
Author's Note: And that's the next chapter everyone! Hope I didn't confuse anyone too much. Basically, the mark on his back is linked to Jason's soul which will be explained in chapters to come. Please Follow and Review! Over and out, DestinedDuelist893.
