RoseGranger: Thanks for reviewing buddy! Yeah, it is very much HarryOC, I was just experimenting with Draco and I'm never going down that alley again, at least in this story.

BurnedSpy: Yups, I've updated again. I just thought you should know. I know that you knew when you clicked on this chapter. I just thought that I'll tell you separately (stupid I know)! Anyways, thanks for reviewing. It just made my day! And no, I'll at least have the decency to let you know if I stopped writing for good.

Amelia-bella1: I tried, I really tried but this is the best I could come up with (They are 11yr olds, what more can we expect right?) Hope you like it and thanks for reviewing.

dianaanne: Thanks and yeah I know. It was supposed to be 'black haired boy' and not 'black boy'. But I noticed it after I posted the chapter and I'm lazy so…..yeah.

Chapter 11: Norbert, Hagrid and Guess What?

"We have to do something Ron."

"I totally agree with you Amelia."

"And we have to do it fast."

"Yeah, before she can get to us." Ron said, glancing around the Gryffindor Common Room.

"Stop, you'll make her suspicious." Amelia, who was sitting beside Ron, yelled.

"I'm just looking out. What if she comes and attacks out of nowhere?" Ron asked fearfully, still looking around.

"What are you two going on about?" asked Harry taking a seat beside the twins.

"You don't have any idea what happened during your Quidditch practice" Amelia said darkly.

"Yeah, it's scary and she's going to come in here any moment" Ron still looked around fearfully.

"Who are you talking about?" Harry asked a little more firmly this time.

"Hermione" Amelia said in a small voice.

"What happened?" Harry asked more confused.

"We were sitting in the Library, finishing the loads of work that these teachers are giving us when suddenly…" Ron took a huge breath and gulped.

"What?" Harry asked urgently.

"Hermione said something…." Ron looked at Amelia and the twins shared a scared look.

"She said that…." Amelia took a deep breath and said it in a hurry as though to get over the horror of it "She said that she was going to make study schedules for us."

"But- But" Harry stammered "The exams are ages away."

"We told her that" Ron said, sighing heavily "But she said that it was only ten weeks away."

"When we left, she asked whether we were in any extra curricular activities and we replied 'no' of course" Amelia said in a whisper "Do you know what she did next?"

"What?" Harry asked with his eyes wide.

"She said" Amelia took a deep breath and imitated Hermione "More time to study then."

"And after that" Ron said in a tone filled with horror "She giggled."

"What is going on here?" Hermione asked with her hands on her hips as she gazed at her three best friends whispering quietly.

The three turned red, the twins more than Harry and quickly replied with 'nothing'.

"Anyways" She shrugged off their weird behavior and took out pieces of parchment and handed it to the twins, who looked at it as though their worst fear had come true. "I made you study schedules."

"Thanks Hermione" Amelia said in a small voice "How- How will we ever repay you?" she said exaggerating it a bit but not wanting to Hermione's feelings.

"Yeah, thanks. It's great" Ron said with a big, fake grin (After a nudge from Amelia).

"Right" Hermione said suspiciously but didn't say anything. She tuned to look at Harry, who sat on the sofa and had prayed during the ordeal that she'd forget about him. No such luck.

"I need to know the timings for your Quidditch practices Harry so that I can make a planner for you too." Hermione said with a smile. She was clearly enjoying this.

"It's alright Hermione" Harry said, smiling weakly "You don't have-"

"-Of course, I have to. This is what friends are for, to help each other out."

"Right" Harry said unconvincingly. "I'll ask Wood, if there'll be any changes, I'll tell you."

"Great Harry" Hermione beamed and Harry gave a small, weak smile in return.

"Anybody up for a game of chess?" Ron asked to lighten the mood.

"Ron, aren't you forgetting something?" Hermione asked.

"What?" he looked at her in confusion.

She subtly stared at the piece of parchment in his hands.

"Oh" Ron said when he looked at the paper. Amelia looked at hers too and in it was return '11:00- DADA= Knockback Jinx, Hags and Gargoyles.'

"Right" Amelia said "So we'll go to the Library right now?"

Please say no, Please say-

"Yeah, let's go together. Harry, you can join us too if you want. You can practice any subject that you think you're weak at" Hermione said giddily, happy that her friends will be joining her in the place that she loved oh-so-much.

They went to their respective rooms, Amelia and Ron picked up their DADA books, Harry picked up his Potions' and the three rushed back to Hermione who was standing with a smile on her face.

"Come on" Hermione chirped and nearly skipped out of the common room. The remaining three followed her with comparatively less enthusiasm.

They reached the Library and the four sat down at a table, opening their respective books and studying. The first two hours went fast for Amelia, surprisingly, but after that she just couldn't concentrate.

"I'll never remember this," Ron burst out. Amelia looked out of the Library window and saw that it was the first really fine day they'd had in months. The sky was a clear, forget-me-not blue, and there was a feeling in the air of summer coming. Amelia sighed.

"Hagrid! What are you doing in the library?" Ron said and Amelia whirled around.

Hagrid shuffled into view, hiding something behind his back. He looked very out of place in his moleskin overcoat.

"Jus' lookin'," he said, in a shifty voice that got their interest at once. "An' what're you lot up ter?" He looked suddenly suspicious. "Yer not still lookin' fer Nicolas Flamel, are yeh?"

"Oh, we found out who he is ages ago," said Ron impressively. "And we know what that dog's guarding, it's a Sorcerer's St—"

"Shhhh!" Hagrid looked around quickly to see if anyone was listening. "Don' go shoutin' about it, what's the matter with yeh?"

"There are a few things we wanted to ask you, as a matter of fact," said Harry, "about what's guarding the Stone apart from Fluffy —"

"SHHHH!" said Hagrid again. "Listen — come an' see me later, I'm not promisin' I'll tell yeh anythin', mind, but don' go rabbitin' about it in here, students aren' s'pposed ter know. They'll think I've told yeh —"

"See you later, then," said Harry.

Hagrid shuffled off and Harry and Amelia smirked at each other, clearly happy that they'd be getting some answers.

"What was he hiding behind his back?" said Hermione thoughtfully.

"I'm going to see what section he was in," said Ron. He was just looking for a way to stop studying.

He came back a minute later with a pile of books in his arms and slammed them down on the table. "Dragons!" he whispered. "Hagrid was looking up stuff about dragons! Look at these: Dragon Species of Great Britain and Ireland; From Egg to Inferno, A Dragon Keeper's Guide. "

"Hagrid's always wanted a dragon, he told me so the first time I ever met him, " said Harry.

"But it's against our laws" said Amelia "It's really hard to hide them from muggles and they are untamable. The ministry is very strict in their laws when it comes to dragons."

"But there aren't wild dragons in Britain?" said Harry.

"Of course there are," said Ron. "Common Welsh Green and Hebridean Blacks. The Ministry of Magic has a job hushing them up, I can tell you. Our kind have to keep putting spells on Muggles who've spotted them, to make them forget."

"So what on earth's Hagrid up to?" said Hermione.

"Let's hope that he's just reading to fantasize" Amelia said, worried for the giant.

"C'mon, we'll think about it later. We should study now" Hermione said already looking at her book.

"Hermione, Harry is very tired as he had just come from Quidditch practice when you dragged-uhum- brought us in the Library. Do you mind if we get something to eat?" Amelia asked as though asking a teacher for permission.

"Why are you going if he's tired?" Hermione asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Because" Amelia thought quickly "He must be hungry after practicing so hard and I am the only one who knows where the kitchens are."

Amelia kicked Harry under the table.

"Yeah" Harry burst out. He gave Amelia a look and continued "I'm very hungry. Let us go for half an hour, please?"

Hermione sighed but reluctantly agreed. Ron however, had problems.

"I want to go too" Ron said pointing at Harry and Amelia accusingly as the two stood up in relief.

"Do you know where the kitchens are?" Hermione asked coolly.

"No" Ron said with his shoulder slumping as he gazed down at his book.

"Half an hour" Hermione said strictly.

"Alright" the two hurried out and as soon as the Library was out of sight the two sighed in relief.

"Thanks for saving me" Harry said with a grin, as they walked along the corridor.

"You're welcome and anyways, I thought you were going to fall asleep with your head bent so low" Amelia replied with a knowing smile as she looked at Harry.

"I only slept for a few minutes" Harry said defensively. Amelia just bit her lip, trying very hard not to laugh out loud.

"Yeah right" Amelia said sarcastically and Harry poked her. She poked him. He poked her again. As she was going to poke him back, he shouted "Okay, that's it".

"You started it anyways" Amelia said and then stuck her tongue out.

"Yeah, Yeah" Harry said and the two laughed, walking around aimlessly.

As Amelia thought about it, she realized that she had never actually been alone with Harry and was therefore not that close with him. He was there for her when she was stupidly sad about not being good enough, he had brought her favorite foods and comforted her but except that, there was always someone or the other with them. They teased each other and cracked jokes but that was it.

"Amelia, you alright?" Harry asked worriedly. One second she was laughing and the next she was looking at the floor in deep thought. It would be a lie, if he said that this silence didn't worry him.

"Did you notice that we know practically nothing about each other?" asked Amelia finally looking up and meeting his gaze.

"Um…" Harry thought hard but couldn't come up with anything. He knew about her family of course but nothing about her.

"You're right" Harry said in disbelief. "We don't know anything about each other."

"C'mon let's go to the grounds" Amelia said and the two walked outside, enjoying the unusual warmth of the day.

"So how do we do this?" Harry asked as the two sat under a tree near the Black Lake.

"Let me think" said Amelia and then she stared at the lake. She didn't want to play the typical 20 questions' game. Although what she was thinking of could be considered similar…..

"Let's play 'Guess what?'" Amelia said excitedly.

"What's that?" Harry asked, confused. He was sure that they were going to play 20 questions.

"Let's say the question is 'your favorite color'. I will guess what your favorite color is and you'll guess mine. If we are right, we get a point and if we're wrong…..we don't get any points." Amelia said, really excited and proud of her idea.

"But how are we going to keep a score? Neither of us has parchment or quill" Harry asked logically.

Amelia looked here and there and another idea struck her. Maybe someone slipped liquid luck in her orange juice today (Charlie mentioned it once. he also said that if he had the liquid luck for an hour, then that hour would be spent gambling. Unfortunately for him, mum heard and no liquid luck could save him from the shouting he received that day.)

"There are branches lying around here, we could just put tally marks in the mud near the lake."

"That doesn't sound so bad" said Harry with a grin and then Harry picked up a thin branch and the two moved closer to the lake."

"Okay…. So what's at stake?" asked Harry. He was already starting to enjoy himself.

"Bacon" Amelia answered promptly.

"I don't like bacon that much" Harry said. Amelia wanted to go on a rant about how could he not like bacon that much, but decided against it.

"Okay, so what do you want?" Amelia asked instead.

"Um… chocolate frogs?" Harry said uncertainly. As far as he remembered, Amelia liked chocolate frogs too.

"Deal" The two shook hands. "The loser gives the winner five chocolate frogs."

Harry then drew an 'H' in the mud and then an 'A', putting some space between the two letters.

"Let's start with favorite color. Just to warm up you know" Amelia suggested.

"Alright" Harry conceded.

"I'll go first" Amelia said.

"Your favorite color is…..gold" Amelia said, clapping her hand.

"Uh…no" said Harry, with a grin.

"I thought it would be, considering that you are a seeker who catches the snitch which is of gold and the Gryffindors are red and gold" Amelia said explain her reasoning behind the wrong answer.

"I like red because the Gryffindor colors are red and gold" said Harry.

"Oh okay" Amelia said, her face turning the shade of Harry's favorite color. "Your turn to guess now."

"Hmm" Harry said in deep thought, and then he perked up and said "Dark green."

Amelia's mouth dropped open "How did you know?"

"I..uh, your mother sent those sweaters at Christmas and Ron was going on and on about how he didn't like his maroon sweater and how unfair it was that you finally got a sweater of your favorite color. Your sweater was dark green so I deduced….." Harry said sheepishly.

Amelia couldn't believe that he had actually remembered that. "You're right Harry. Dark green is my favorite color, though your green eyes are the second best shade of green ever."

Now, it was his turn to turn red, "Thanks"

"Next question" Harry stated as he drew a tally mark under 'H'.

"Okay, who is the best authoritative figure in Hogwarts?" asked Harry.

Seriously, Amelia thought, that is the question he comes up with?

"Okay, yours is Professor Dumbledore" Amelia said immediately. Amelia remembered thathe had talked to Professor Dumbledore and so she said his name. Only seriously evil people can talk to him and not like him.

"You're right" said Harry with a smile "Okay so yours is…Professor Dum- No, Professor Flitwick"

"Are you sure Harry?" Amelia teased, trying to confuse him.

Harry thought for a moment then nodded affirmative "Yeah, I'm sure it's Professor Flitwick." He remembered that Charms was her best subject so he thought that Professor Flitwick would be her favorite teacher.

"Then you're right" Amelia stated, smiling softly.

As they drew both tally marks under their name's initial alphabets, Amelia thought of the next question.

"Favorite dessert?" Amelia asked. It was Harry's turn to guess first.

"Bacon" Harry stated simply.

"Bacon isn't a dessert Harry" Harry blushed, but then thought. He just couldn't remember.

"Uh…. Blueberry pie?" Harry guessed

"No" Amelia shook her head with glee. "It's chocolate éclairs."

"Yeah, I remember now. I brought you some of it when you didn't come down to dinner" Harry said.

"Yeah, it was seriously a stupid reason to get sad for" Amelia said, still thinking that it was stupid to get sad when Professor Sprout had just made her realize how childish she was being.

"Yours is Treacle Tart" Amelia said confidently "I've see you inhaling them every dinner."

"That's right" Harry said in surprise. Then, Amelia drew a tally mark under 'A' and Harry thought of a question.

"Guess my middle name and I'll guess yours"

The game went so on and so forth. The final tally between the two was five to seven because they had decided to end the game as they didn't want to face Hermione's wrath. They were already ten minutes late.

"I win" Harry yelled with his fist in the air "I win and I get five chocolate frogs."

"Stop it" Amelia grumbled jokingly "C'mon, we're late as it is."

"You're just jealous, Amelia Marie Weasley"

"I'm not, Harry James Potter"

"Yes you are"

"No I'm not"

"Yes"

"No"

"Yes"

"No"

"Yes"

"Oh No, we've reached the Library."

"Hurry up then, I can sense Hermione fuming from even here" said Harry and the two rushed inside, ignoring the looks from Madam Pince.

"So you finally decided to grace us with your presence hmmm?" Hermione said in a neutral tone, which was scary. Ron was smirking, as if to say, Take that.

"We lost track of time" Amelia said in a small voice.

"Lost track of time? Do you know how important these exams are? They decide whether we're going to second year or not and…" Hermione continued her rant in a controlled voice. Amelia couldn't help but think that she reminded her of mum a bit. Even Ron looked scared and he wasn't even on the receiving end.

"We'll study from now, okay?" Harry interrupted Hermione mid speech. He thought that if he didn't stop her then she would go on for hours.

"Alright" Hermione said abruptly and continued her work, leaving Amelia and Harry in no doubt that she wouldn't talk to then for an hour or two. Amelia sighed and took her seat and Harry followed suit.

The four of them went to Hagrid's house an hour later (Hermione had started talking to Amelia and Harry). The four were quickly ushered inside before he locked the door shut. The curtains were already closed.

It was stifling hot inside. Even though it was such a warm day, there was a blazing fire in the grate. Hagrid made them tea and offered them stoat sandwiches, which they refused (Amelia's teeth ached just by seeing them).

"So — yeh wanted to ask me somethin'?"

"Yes," said Harry immediately. "We were wondering if you could tell us what's guarding the Sorcerer's Stone apart from Fluffy."

Hagrid frowned at him.

"O' course I can't," he said. "Number one, I don' know meself. Number two, yeh know too much already, so I wouldn' tell yeh if I could. That Stone's here fer a good reason. It was almost stolen outta Gringotts — I s'ppose yeh've worked that out an' all? Beats me how yeh even know abou' Fluffy."

"Oh, come on, Hagrid, you might not want to tell us, but you do know, you know everything that goes on round here," said Hermione in a warm, flattering voice. Hagrid's beard twitched and they could tell he was smiling. "We only wondered who had done the guarding, really." Hermione went on. "We wondered who Dumbledore had trusted enough to help him, apart from you."

Hermione beamed at Amelia and she beamed right back. She was glad that Hermione's charm (which was rarely ever shown) had been put to good use.

"Well, I don' s'pose it could hurt ter tell yeh that… let's see… he borrowed Fluffy from me… then some o' the teachers did enchantments… Professor Sprout — Professor Flitwick — Professor McGonagall —" he ticked them off on his fingers, "Professor Quirrell — an' Dumbledore himself did somethin', o' course. Hang on, I've forgotten someone. Oh yeah, Professor Snape."

Amelia stomach sinked when she heard that he was involved too.

"Snape?"

"Yeah — yer not still on abou' that, are yeh? Look, Snape helped protect the Stone, he's not about ter steal it."

But that means that he was there when the teachers put spells to protect the stone and so he must already know how to get past them. The only thing standing in between him and the stone was Quirrell's spell and Fluffy, Amelia thought. One could tell by the glances passed between them, that the four had reached the same conclusion.

"You're the only one who knows how to get past Fluffy. Aren't you, Hagrid?" said Harry anxiously. "And you wouldn't tell anyone, would you? Not even one of the teachers?"

"Not a soul knows except me an' Dumbledore," said Hagrid proudly.

"Well, that's something," Harry muttered. "Hagrid, can we have a window open? I'm boiling."

"Can't, Harry, sorry," said Hagrid. Hagrid glanced at the fire and Amelia did too.

"Hagrid — what's that?"

There was a huge black egg at the very centre of the fire.

"Ah," said Hagrid, fiddling nervously with his beard, "That's — er…"

"Where did you get it, Hagrid?" said Ron, crouching over the fire to get a closer look at the egg. "It must've cost you a fortune." Amelia joined him too as she realized what she was seeing.

"Won it," said Hagrid. "Las' night. I was down in the village havin' a few drinks an' got into a game o' cards with a stranger. Think he was quite glad ter get rid of it, ter be honest."

"But what are you going to do with it when it's hatched?" said Hermione.

"Well, I've bin doin' some readin'," said Hagrid, pulling a large book from under his pillow. "Got this outta the library —Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit — it's a bit outta date, o' course, but it's all in here. Keep the egg in the fire, 'cause their mothers breathe on I em, see, an' when it hatches, feed it on a bucket o' brandy mixed with chicken blood every half hour. An' see here — how ter recognize diff'rent eggs — what I got there's a Norwegian Ridgeback. They're rare, them."

"Hagrid, you live in a wooden house," Amelia said, trying to knock some sense into him.

But Hagrid didn't listen. Instead, he joined the twins near the fire but unlike them, he started humming to the egg merrily. The twins shared a look but didn't comment.

As they left the house, they couldn't help but think that this was just another thing that they had to put in the list of 'Dangerous Things To Worry About.'

Evening after evening, the four of then sat and studied for their exams and this time Amelia didn't dare ask for a break because every time Amelia even stretched, Hermione's glare would be fixed on her. Hermione didn't even let them sleep at night. She would set in her bed and mutter and Parvati and Lavender and taken to pointing and glaring at Hermione whenever she passed by. Amelia just thought that she better get used to it now because this will happen for the remaining six years too.

One morning when Harry was eating Treacle Tart and Amelia was eating Chocolate Éclairs, Hedwig brought Harry a note. Amelia paused in her eating and stared at Hedwig. She was such a beautiful bird. Hedwig turned and stared at Amelia with those big two orbs of hers. Amelia gulped and quickly turned to her chocolate éclairs.

"The egg is hatching" Harry whispered.

They hurried to Hagrid's cabin excitedly. After all how many times were they going too see a dragon being born?

"It's nearly out." Hagrid ushered them inside.

The egg was lying on the table. There were deep cracks in it and a funny noise was coming from it. They all stood around the table and waited with bated breaths.

All at once there was a scraping noise and the egg split open. The baby dragon flopped onto the table. It wasn't exactly pretty; it looked like a crumpled, black umbrella. Its spiny wings were huge compared to its skinny jet body; it had a long snout with wide nostrils, the stubs of horns and bulging, orange eyes. It sneezed. A couple of sparks flew out of its snout.

"Isn't he beautiful?" Hagrid murmured. He reached out a hand to stroke the dragon's head. It snapped at his fingers, showing pointed fangs.

"Bless him, look, he knows his mommy!" said Hagrid.

Hagrid was about to say something else when he looked out the window and the color drained from his face.

"What's the matter?"

"Someone was lookin' through the gap in the curtains — it's a kid — he's runnin' back up ter the school."

They bolted to the door and looked out. Even from this distance, Amelia could recognize Malfoy's blond hair, plastered to his head.

The four then tried to convince Hagrid to set the dragon free. It was only a matter of time before Malfoy opened his mouth.

"Just let him go," Harry urged. "Set him free."

"I can't," said Hagrid. "He's too little. He'd die."

"I've decided to call him Norbert," said Hagrid, looking at the dragon with misty eyes. "He really knows me now, watch. Norbert! Norbert! Where's Mommy?"

"He's lost his marbles," Ron muttered in Harry's ear but Amelia heard and shoved him.

"Hagrid," said Harry loudly, "give it two weeks and Norbert's going to be as long as your house. Malfoy could go to Dumbledore at any moment."

"I — I know I can't keep him forever, but I can't jus' dump him, I can't."

"Charlie" Amelia suddenly yelled, giving herself a high five mentally.

"She's lost it too" Ron muttered.

"Charlie studies dragons in Romania Hagrid. We could send Norbert to him" Amelia explained and then glared at Ron.

"Brilliant! How about it Hagrid?" Ron said quickly. This would rid them of the dragon as well as maybe get him in the good graces of his sister.

And in the end, Hagrid agreed that they could send an owl to Charlie to ask him.

As soon as they got back, Ron and Amelia wrote a letter to Charlie together and sent it via Hedwig, who stared at Amelia for a minute (until Amelia gulped) and then flew off to Romania.

The following week dragged by. On Wednesday night, Ron and Amelia decided to help Hagrid with his new baby dragon. They took Harry's invisibility cloak and ran to his cabin.

When they reached it, Hagrid again ushered them inside and they found Norbert already sitting beside a crate filled with dead rats.

"Just throw these to him" He pointed to the dead rats "I'll go get some more of that." And Hagrid left the cabin.

Amelia and Ron had a silent staring war about who would feed first, Amelia won and Ron walked forward. He put his hand into the crate and picked up few dead rats. Amelia went and stood as far away as she could. Now was not the time for Gryffindor bravery it seems.

Norbert took a deep breath and a small flame burst out. Ron whimpered but didn't move.

"Just throw it Ron" Amelia whisper-yelled from the corner.

"Why don't you do it?" Ron whisper-yelled back.

"Sorry" Amelia shrugged her shoulders and remained quite after that.

Ron threw the rat but it landed behind Norbert. He just looked up blearily and looked down again, not bothering to turn around and get the rat.

Just in that moment, Hagrid entered with another crate of dead rats and Amelia had to plug her nose to block the smell. "How many rats has he eaten?" Hagrid asked, placing the crate beside the previous one.

"Um…..none" Ron mumbled.

"NONE" Hagrid roared. Ron and Amelia jumped. "MY BABY HASN'T EATEN ANYTHING YET? WHAT HAVE YOU TWO BEEN DOING TILL NOW?" Hagrid yelled.

Baby?

"Hagrid, we don't know how to feed a dragon" Amelia said, trembling all over. Hagrid looked scarier than Norbert right now.

"Right, of course" Hagrid muttered "How stupid of me." Then he looked at Ron clearly and said "If you were planning on throwing the rats then it was wrong. Norbert has to be fed by hand. You have to put the food in his mouth. He won't catch the rat or anything."

Oh joy. That makes it all the more easier. By the look on Ron's face, he was thinking the same thing.

"Fine" said Ron and moved forward. He held a rat in his right hand and stretched it towards Norbert. Ron was shaking and trembling all over. Norbert opened his mouth and ate the rat but in the process, bit Ron's had too. Ron sounded like a wounded dog when he howled in pain, clutching his hand tightly. Amelia rushed forward to help him.

His hand was bleeding. Like badly bleeding. In the background, Amelia could hear Hagrid going on and on about how Ron scared Norbert or else he wouldn't have bitten him.

"Hagrid, we're leaving" Amelia said, stopping Hagrid mid-rant as she pulled the invisibility cloak on herself and Ron and the two went back to the castle. But when Amelia closed the door, she heard Hagrid seeing a lullaby. The twins looked at each other, then shuddering in unison the two went to the Gryffindor common room.

They reached just as the clock struck midnight and found Hermione and Harry in the common room. And at that very moment, arrived Hedwig with a reply from Charlie. The note said that his friends would be coming over to get the dragon and they will meet at the astronomy tower in Saturday at midnight.

Why does everything have to happen at midnight?

The next day, Ron had to go to the hospital wing because his hand had swollen to twice its size. When Hermione, Amelia and Harry went to visit him, he was moaning and rolling in his bed. Generally, it's a bad sign but you could never tell with Ron.

"It's not just my hand," he whispered, "although that feels like it's about to fall off. Malfoy told Madam Pomfrey he wanted to borrow one of my books so he could come and have a good laugh at me. He kept threatening to tell her what really bit me — I've told her it was a dog, but I don't think she believes me — I shouldn't have hit him at the Quidditch match, that's why he's doing this."

Amelia had nearly forgotten about Malfoy. Suddenly, she remembered the knowing smirk that was always plastered on his face whenever he saw any of them.

"It'll all be over at midnight on Saturday," said Hermione, but this didn't soothe Ron at all. On the contrary, he sat bolt upright and broke into a sweat.

"Midnight on Saturday!" he said in a hoarse voice. "Oh no oh no — I've just remembered —Charlie's letter was in that book Malfoy took, he's going to know we're getting rid of Norbert."

Before anyone could say anything or curse, Madam Pomfrey entered and ushered them all out.

"We can't change the plan" Harry said as soon as Amelia opened her mouth. "There's no time."

"But Malfoy knows" said Amelia, trying to push some sense into him "He'll tell someone, just like last time."

"You both have got a point" said Hermione, as the two of them looked at her for an answer "But we don't have any other choice. We have to get rid of Norbert."

Harry and Hermione went off to Hagrid's to inform him of the plan while Amelia went off to the kitchen to put some bacon in her stomach. She had heard that food makes everything better (must be Ron).

On Saturday night, Hermione, Harry and Amelia ran to Hagrid's cabin (They've been doing that a lot lately).

Hagrid had Norbert packed and ready in a large crate. "He's got lots o' rats an' some brandy fer the journey," said Hagrid in a muffled voice. "An' I've packed his teddy bear in case he gets lonely."

From inside the crate came ripping noises that sounded to Amelia as though Norbert had just killed his partner-in-journey.

"Bye-bye, Norbert!" Hagrid sobbed, as Harry, Hermione and Amelia covered the crate with the invisibility cloak and stepped underneath it themselves. "Mommy will never forget you!"

They rushed through the entrance hall and the dark corridors and the stairs. It was a wonder that they hadn't been caught by the racket that they were making. They had almost reached the Astronomy tower when a sudden movement made them nearly drop the crate.

A lamp flared as they shrank in the shadows and Amelia couldn't believe it when she saw Professor McGonagall holding Malfoy's ear.

"Detention!" she shouted. "And twenty points from Slytherin! Wandering around in the middle of the night, how dare you —"

"You don't understand, Professor. Harry Potter's coming — he's got a dragon!"

"What utter rubbish! How dare you tell such lies! Come on — I shall see Professor Snape about you, Malfoy!"

Professor McGonagall led Malfoy away and after that the three of them hurried to the tower. Harry threw off the cloak and Hermione did a sort of jig.

"Malfoy's got detention! I could sing!"

"Don't," Harry advised her.

"We're most definitely having a party tomorrow" Amelia promised. They were getting rid of Norbert and Malfoy had detention and so everything was right with the world.

About ten minutes later, four brooms appeared in the sky and they slowly reached the Astronomy Tower. Charlie's friends were a cheery lot. They showed them the harness they'd rigged up, so they could suspend Norbert between them. They all helped buckle Norbert safely into it and then the three thanked them. They stood there as Charlie's friends soared in the air.

Their hearts and hands considerably lighter, they went down the stairs of the tower cheerfully. But when Amelia suddenly saw Filch's face looming in the dark, all cheerfulness drained from her face.

"Well, well, well," he whispered, "we are in trouble."
