He had never liked Niklaus. The boy was too sensitive to be his son. He was not tough and he thought fighting was for amusement. He was sheltered, naive, blind to the dangers. Then, he was the reason for Henrik's death. Mere dislike blossomed into anger and blame. But, he still felt duty bound to protect him. His son in spite of his flaws.
