Connor and Desmond sat on the couch, watching the Friday night movie. Edward was nowhere to be seen, and Haytham was still at the office, "What are they others up to?" Connor asked, and Desmond pulled out his phone.
"I think the new Underworld movie, but I'm not sure," he answered, and felt his phone vibrate. He picked it up, and frowned, "Why is Rebecca calling me?" Connor shrugged, and went to go grab a drink from the kitchen. Desmond answered the phone, "Hello?"
"Des thank goodness! I need your help!"
"What's wrong?"
"It's Lucy. She's...passed out," Desmond got up from the couch and walked into the kitchen.
"What do you mean passed out?" he asked, and Connor poked his head up from the fridge, frowning.
"We're at Vidic's party, and, well...there's alcohol, and Lucy's never really drank besides that night you and her..."
"Yeah yeah yeah I know," Desmond cut her off, and Connor raised his eyebrows, "What do you need?"
"Can you come get us? Please? I need to get her in bed, but can we stay at your place? Her parents will kill her if they see her like this," Desmond took the phone away from his ear.
"Do you have a car?" he asked Connor.
"Probably," Connor answered, "Why?"
"Me and Connor are on our way," Desmond hung up.
"Des what's going on?" Connor asked.
"It's Lucy. She needs our help," he answered, and grabbed his coat. Connor grabbed his as well, and they headed out to the garage. There was two cars parked, one a Volkswagen Jetta and the other a whistled, "Damn," Connor went back inside, and grabbed the keys to the Jetta.
"Haytham's gonna kill me," Connor muttered, as he unlocked the car, and they cliimbed in. Connor hit the open button, and the garage opened, "Haytham's gonna kill me."
They pulled up to the house, and Desmond saw Rebecca sitting with Lucy, a jacket draped over her shoulders. Desmond got out, and walked over to them, "Thank god," Rebecca said.
"How is she?"
"Conscious now, but...really, really drunk," Lucy leaned over and threw up in the bushes, "Oh honey. You could never handle your liquor that well," Desmond slipped an arm under Lucy's, and picked her up. Lucy leaned against.
"I'm sorry Des," she slurred.
"It's fine Luce," he said, and Rebecca opened the back seat.
"When did you get a car Connor?" she asked, as she climbed into the front seat while Desmond got Lucy in.
"It's not mine," he answered, "And if we get anything on this, Haytham is going to kill me, so, if she needs to yak, please let me know," Desmond nodded, and Connor began driving away, "Your place?" he asked, looking at Desmond in the rear view mirror. Desmond nodded.
Lucy leaned her head against Desmond's shoulder, "Des, I'm sorry," she slurred, then chuckled, "Remember that summer, two years ago, we snuck into my parents' liquor cabinet and stole that bottle of wine?"
"Yeah I do," Desmond answered.
"We climbed up to the roof, and took turns drinking the wine," Rebecca glanced at Connor.
Did you know about this? she mouthed, and Connor shook his head.
"Then we looked at the stars, and pointed out the ones we knew," Lucy smiled, "and then we kissed," Connor's jaw dropped, and Rebecca turned around.
"What?" she asked.
"Oh look we're at my house," Desmond said, and Connor pulled into the driveway. Desmond got out and helped Lucy out, leaving Rebecca and Connor in the car. The two turned and looked at each other.
"WHAT?!" they yelled, and got out, following Desmond. Desmond fumbled with his house keys, and dropped them. He bent to pick them up and heard the door open. He looked up and saw his dad.
"Des what are you doing?" he asked, and he saw Lucy, "Is she ok?"
"No Mr. Miles she's really, really drunk," Rebecca said, "and we don't want her parents to see her like this," Bill looked at Desmond, and moved aside to let them in.
Desmond brought Lucy to his room, and placed her on his bed, turning her on her side and putting a garbage can by the bed. Rebecca came in with a glass of water, and put it down on the nightstand. Rebecca knelt down and brushed Lucy's hair out of her face, "Poor girl," she whispered, and Desmond left the room, meeting Connor.
"You got some explaining to do," Connor said, and Desmond walked into the kitchen, "Why didn't you tell us?" he asked, and Desmond sighed.
"It didn't mean anything. We were drunk," he explained.
Two Summers Ago...
"Give me the last sip," Lucy demanded, and Desmond held the bottle away from her.
"Nuh-huh. It's mine," he slurred, and tilted his head back, letting the cool liquid run down his throat. He placed the bottle down, "Do you think they'll notice?" Lucy giggled, and leaned against him. Desmond placed his arm around her.
"Des I don't want the summer to end," she said, as the cool air rushed over their faces.
"Me either," he muttered, and Lucy pushed herself up, looking at him.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked.
"Nothing really," he said. Their eyes were locked, and Desmond leaned in, then stopped. Lucy looked at him.
"Why did you stop?" she asked softly, and pressed her lips against his.
"It's not that big deal," Desmond said.
"Uh, yes it is! You two kissed! You gotta go for it man!" Connor urged, and Desmond sighed.
"I dunno, we'll see," Connor checked his phone.
"Shit I gotta get back. It's almost midnight," he said, "I'll talk to you later man," he said, and rushed outside. Bill looked over at Desmond.
"Lucy's lucky to have a friend like you, keep that in mind," his father said, "Night son."
"Night dad."
