I decided to make this chapter a set of two, after debating it a while. I don't like making chapters too long, truth be told I get tired easily reading extensive chapters. Well I do hope you readers enjoy this chapter! :D
Secured Interview (Part 1)
.
.
.
I couldn't sleep all night after the events of yesterday. Besides the police keeping watch all night I was still very perturbed and besides the obvious my two bruised ribs weren't letting me sleep either, breathing was difficult. The doctor mentioned I would be better in a week and a half or so but just thinking of myself feeling this way for more than a week was just tiring.
I got out of bed fairly early in the morning, not being able to take another hour of staring at the ceiling trying to conceive sleep. I went to the bathroom and took a shower but I couldn't help but frown as I saw the more prominent looking purple bruise on my side and the bruise/cut on my forehead. It was a soothing bath I almost didn't feel like leaving its comfort and warmth.
I decided to put on a cozy emerald color T-shirt and a pair of black sport sweat pants. I left my hair loose as well, it was much longer now that I noticed, already to my lower back. Lastly I finished by changing the small gauze patch protecting my side forehead injury, good thing the doctor said it was just a superficial wound though.
After that I limped my way down the stairs making sure to have a firm grasp on the railing so not to fall. I made my way to the kitchen and no one was in besides Alfonso who was sitting at the small table, his eyes staring straight into mine as I looked up to meet his gaze. I turned around not wanting to linger in there anymore, I used the wall as support in turning around but Alfonso was next to me before I could make an escape.
"Wait." He said placing his hand on top of mine, I looked at our hands and back at him, I couldn't hide the anger surfacing towards him once more. He must of felt my resentment towards him because he removed his hand from mine at once. "I would like to discuss something with you, it will take just a moment." He gestured me towards the table.
"Just a moment." I repeated, he nodded. I went to the table for two, grabbed a chair and gently sat down .
"Would you like some coffee?" He asked, his tone still careful, I simply nodded indifferently. My boss serving me coffee, he really was going over the top to get along with me. He brought my cup of dark coffee, some creamer and sugar over to the table and then he sat down.
I started preparing my coffee with that I excused myself from looking up at him, "what did you want to talk about?" I asked, my tone giving no hint of amiability.
He leaned in as if pleading for me to look at him as he spoke and of course I didn't subside, "I would like to apologize first and foremost about my unforgiving behavior to you yesterday."
I couldn't help but snort, even though my side ended up hurting slightly, "yeah, unforgiving." His expression was surprised but it seemed as if this encouraged him and his posture relaxed.
"Though knowing you I might have learned that an apologize is not enough." He added cordially.
Can we cut the crap already!? "Is this all you wanted to say to me?" I wasn't one to forgive another so easily.
"No," he took off his glasses and cleaned them with a handkerchief he took out of his suit pocket and began to clean them while speaking, "looking at recent events that have happened here I have come to a conclusion that it is best if we hire another suitable security guard to help you." He said placing his glasses back on and putting the handkerchief back in his pocket.
"Aren't Gregorio and I enough?"
"No, the interviews will be held in the living room at midday. I would like you present so you can help me choose which one looks appropriate for the job." He said getting up, he bowed slightly towards me but right before he left the kitchen he turned to look at me once more. "You don't know how much it pains me to see you in this condition and not being able to comfort you is just… so unbearable." He then proceeded out of the kitchen.
I scoffed disgusted and clenched my teeth repeatedly. The maids soon after started pouring in, their curious eyes on me. I didn't leave them any room to question me, I even left my coffee feeling too angry to drink it and staggered out, I didn't feel up to being surrounded by people so I went outside.
The guards were outside watching now even though it was daytime, they bided me good morning which I returned and continued to walk down the path.
I couldn't help relive last nights moments in my head, I can't believe I'm thinking this but… I need more training. I sighed heavily and winced. One of the guards came up to me, his cheek had a purplish-red bruise it came up right under his eye. "We found this Ms. Blackwell and we assumed it was yours." He handed me my 9mm handgun, I smiled and took it and I continued on my way down the path.
I got to the slope where that woman and I fell and continued down, holding on to the trees for support. On my way down I found my knife laying near a bush almost completely hidden by it. I reached the bottom of the slope and noticed all the footprints in the soft dirt. How was I beaten so easily by that thief? Spy? Whatever the hell she was? Stop torturing yourself with this my conscience said annoyed you'll get her next time.
"Right." I climbed back up the slope, the jungle was peaceful and not as quiet as last night, there was a lot of chirping going around, I even saw a chameleon making his way up a tree.
Besides that now, I focused on the task at hand: the Ambassador wanted an additional security guard, who knows what type of people are going to show up for this interview? I'll just have to wait and see, which reminded me I needed to go see Leon, though what would he think when he saw me looking like this? I noticed I had finally made it up to the slope and made my way back to the house.
I started climbing up the stairs still contemplating whether or not to go see Leon. I went into my room and stored the knife and gun with my holster in a cabinet inside my closet. I left my room and ran into a waking Abella who looked at me rubbed her eyes and looked at me in shock, "Selene que te aconteceu? (Selene what happened to you?)"
I wasn't about to tell her someone was wanting to sneak in, that would scare her. Lets go with a classic white lie, "Eu caí ao andar em torno da selva ontem. (I fell down while walking around the jungle yesterday.)"
She looked at me doubting but then she shrugged still looking worried, "Está se sentindo bem? (Are you feeling okay?)"
"Não se preocupe, eu vai ficar bem. (Don't worry I'll be fine.)" I smiled.
She smiled back warily, "Se você diz, eu vou comer o pequeno-almoço. (If you say so, I'm going to eat breakfast.)" She said skipping down the stairs.
I went back down the stairs and into the living room and I found Abilio dusting and shining the vast area, in one hand he carried a cloth and in the other he held a duster. He turned to look at me and smiled softly, "good day to you Ms. Blackwell I hope you are feeling somewhat better though you really should be resting." He finished saying in a stern tone.
"I'm not one to keep still." I countered.
"I can imagine, I'm almost done with this room, Mr. Navarra has told me the plans of the day so I wanted this room to look nice and welcoming." He said looking around.
"I believe you have succeeded." I said looking at the place, the curtains and sofas were fluffed and well in place. The desk was shined alongside all the chairs which were placed exactly where they needed to be. The TV in the corner and its furniture was nearly gleaming in the sunlight that hit it from the window that showed next to it. Even the family portrait looked immaculate. Absolutely no hint of dust anywhere. Abilio came to stand next to me and admired his work as well, he brushed his two fingers alongside the mini counter bar behind us and like I expected no dust in sight.
The grandfather clock in the kitchen chimed multiple times, I looked at my watch and it read 12 o'clock. The interviewed would be here any minute now, Abilio got the message and ran out of room. I noticed he began placing seats at the entrance of the main hall, I understood that we would be interviewing them one by one.
I heard an upstairs door open and close and then Alfonso came down the stairs, God knows what he was up to in that study room of his. He walked down the stairs and gestured me to sit in one of the chairs Abilio had set out. "I want you to greet them at the door and settle them in these chairs, when I call forth the next person you will lead them to the front of my desk and you will sit next to me." Sit next to me… he enjoyed saying that…
I nodded, he handed me a clipboard with a sheet of paper, "this is the list of people who have signed up for the position and have confirmed there presence here today. We will start the interview when most of everyone on that list has shown up." He turned around and headed towards the living room.
He sure went to the extent to plan this interview fairly quickly, I contemplated. I laid back into the chair and started reading the names on the list to myself: Miguel Castelo, Felipe Neymar, Sergio Lima, Raul Alvarado, Julio Rocha… I skipped down the list and their was a name that made my eyes grow wide but before I could even think the doorbell rang I got up and opened the door and I was even more surprised now.
"Leon?" I whispered in disbelief. He was surprised to see me too, I honestly didn't know who was more shocked. Leon's face had gotten upset in a fraction of a second, I saw him go rigid as he reached to touch my forehead.
"Did he-"
"Ms. Blackwell is someone at the door?" Leon dropped his hand, I felt Abilio rush pass me and open the door wider, "come in sir." Abilio gestured him inside, I moved out of the way lowering my gaze, thinking. "Ms. Blackwell are you feeling alright?" Abilio asked, I snapped back to reality.
"Yes, yes I'm fine." I said looking back at Leon who was seated but clenching his jaw.
"Well, I will be here to assist you with attending." He said still eyeing me curiously.
"Honestly I'm fine, I just got a little light headed is all." I said gaining my self control back. I needed a moment alone with Leon, his impression of me looking like this made him think that Alfonso might have done this and I needed to explain that this wasn't the case. "Abilio I would like some tea please." I said quickly.
"Alright I'll be right back." I smiled softly and nodded. I peered over to the living room and Alfonso seemed immersed in some documents.
I looked back at Leon who was attentively staring at me. I shook my head and smiled, "someone tried to sneak into the estate last night and I stood my ground." I explained whispering still. Leon relaxed a little, I mean he didn't look as dangerous as before.
"I don't know if I like that response any better." He said seriously, his eyes carefully examining me.
"It's not so serious." The doorbell rang again I got up carefully to open it. Three men were standing there and I welcomed them in and they took their seats. Abilio came back with the tea and handed it to me I smiled gratefully and started drinking it. Abilio insisted he was on greeting duty so that I could rest.
While we waited Leon and I exchanged glances, I understood what I had to do but it was much easier said than done. Leon stood against nine other probably well qualified bodyguards but I knew it had to be him, I had to make it so.
Sabotaging the other nine men's interviews this should be interesting to do…
I'll leave the sabotaging for the next chapter which I know for sure will be fun to read, if you guys have any ideas about what you think Selene might do leave them in the reviews! :D
Oh boy, if Selene wouldn't have been able to tell Leon what happened to her who knows what he would have done to the Ambassador...
Anyways it's review answering time:
jorgevaldez: Not quite! Keep reading and continue to enjoy :D
The95will: Look everyone a cat fight! *crowd runs to see* lol. Yeah I had a hard time deciding how that mini fight would go down but I am happy with how it turned out. Selene says, "You can bet on a rematch." But how would Leon feel?! :0
Voldemort: Pretty much the base of that entire fight, what Selene was thinking the entire time. ahaha hope you enjoyed this chapter :)
Well I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and thank you so much to those of you who take the time to read this, review, favorite and follow, it means so much to me :)
