The gates opened.
"Good evening ladies!"
Que loud and obnoxious cheering of 'Idol.'
"Did any of you dream of me last night?" Aido asked with a cocky grin.
"God help the little ones." Koneko muttered to Takuma causing him to bite his lip to hold in a laugh.
"You're horrible." He teased.
"Wonderful," Aido smiled. "So tonight I will make a little detour and invade Yuki Cross' dreams. You're it!" He pointed at her, much to the annoyance of the fan girls.
"What would you do if he tried to woo you like that?" Rima asked.
"God help him if he tried." Koneko replied honestly, enjoying being able to grin and laugh with the other Night Class students without blushing.
The girls suddenly rushed forward, nearly knocking down Yuki who was saved by… Zero?
"Exactly what are you doing…Yuki?"
There were a few minutes of silence, in which Aido reached behind him and brushed his fingers gently across Koneko's hand.
"Alright, enough! Back to your dorms!" Zero ordered, ignoring the girl's protests.
"Zero…welcome back." Yuki smiled.
"Yeah, thank you."
"What is with this, invade your dreams?" Ruka asked as they Night Class got closer to their building.
"Well if you appeared it would be a nightmare." Her cousin replied.
"What was that?" She growled, ultimately frightening him.
"You know. I admire that about you Hanabusa." Kain told him as Koneko continued on with Takuma, enjoying an in-depth talk about their latest book obsessions.
"And just what does that mean?" The Aido heir huffed.
"You always manage to play your role perfectly. And I'm sure that's no easy task."
The blonde sucked in a breath, looking at the back of his black haired betrothed, but not before watching Kaname pass him by.
Feeling someone stare at her Koneko turned back confused then noticed who exactly it was.
Flashing a wide smile she turned back to laugh at Takuma's 'ridiculous' tastes in what she dubbed as 'weird stuff.'
They entered the class room and hadn't their things settled when Kaname asked "Everyone…will you do me a favour?"
The other members of the Night Class put their hands on their hearts and agreed too but the other few, Koneko's group remained apprehensive.
"Kaname-sama? Are you sure?"
He didn't reply.
Not five minutes into class the door opened.
Toga Yagari.
But…
"We're not secluded to have an ethics lesson. There's no reason for him to be here." Takuma muttered.
"Forgive the interruption. But might I borrow Koneko Mizuchi please?"
Their math teacher agreed though was somewhat confused.
The girl in question rose to her feet dropping her pen but Yagari spoke again "You might want to bring your stuff."
Even more confused and a little embarrassed at the attention she quickly gathered her things and left the room.
On the other side of the door stood Kaien Cross.
"What's wrong?"
Why had the Chairman come to find her?
His lips pressed into a thin line he said "Maybe we should go to my office."
"You're here. Tell me now."
A coil of fear and worry started to wind in her stomach…what was going on?
"Koneko I really insist that-"
"What happened?" She asked a little desperately and his resolve crumbled.
Out of his pocket came a letter.
"I regret to inform you the deaths of Liu Ling Fa, Hueng Chen, Lang Xiao Li and Mizuchi Satoru. Cross Academy is sorry for your loss."
The coil snapped and all colour drained from her face, her mouth opened in a soundless cry and she felt her knees wobble.
"No…no, no, no….." Her hands covered her mouth as tears threatened to spill over.
"Koneko I'm-"Chairman began but she shook her head again to silence him.
"I…I can't…" She looked either way down the empty hall. "I'm going to, go back to… like, the dorm or something."
"Do you want me to-"Yagari began but she shook her head fiercely again, not wanting to be near anyone.
"I just need time alone." She stated then left them before they could stop her.
She made it all the way to the dorm without running into anyone and into her room.
From under her bed she pulled out her suitcase and threw it onto the bed.
Tears blurred her vision as she threw more and more clothes into it, pausing every few seconds to wipe her eyes.
She couldn't think about it, her cousins…her brother…
Dead.
How?
Why?
Where?
Who'd do something like that?
Satoru was a father, the first of their siblings to have a child and-
A sob caught in her throat when she thought of her niece. Little Akane and her mother… Chieko and her brother had loved each other with such intensity it inspired her.
They didn't deserve this.
Suddenly a wave of guilt washed over her, what about the others? Ling Fa so excited to go to America to be a lawyer, Chen who was just itching to travel, Xiao Li…
She sat on her bed and buried her head in her hands. Xiao just wanted to live a normal life, he wanted to marry and have kids and settle. And now he never would.
Finally, finally she let herself cry.
It was almost like a scream the sound that ripped from her throat, her shoulders shook and she let herself feel.
All at once she felt hurt, sad, angry and alone.
She didn't know how to stop.
All she wanted to do was cry.
-KAIEN AND YAGARI-
It was ten minutes later when they pulled Aido out of class as well. Followed by Kaname and Takuma.
Legally they had to notify Aido and while they knew that Koneko wouldn't want Kaname to know her family business he was a pureblood and the dorm president, and Takuma was the vice-president.
"Unfortunately there's been an accident in Shanghai." He began leaning back on his chair.
"Shanghai?" Takuma replied confused. "Forgive us Chairman but, why does that concern us?"
"It happened in a club. Owned by pureblood Chao Dewei, during which he was celebrating being granted permission to open another night club in Hong Kong. As such the Lady Liu sent a party to honour the occasion in her steed. During which an unknown assailant attacked the heir Jiren Enlai and of course his guard got involved. Of the six, four were killed." Yagari explained.
"Hong Kong but that's…that's…" Aido couldn't say it.
Chairman nodded. "Unfortunately the fatalities in question were members of Koneko's family. One of which was her brother Satoru."
The three vampires shared a look, Kaname's face never changed, Takuma looked worried but Aido looked genuinely devastated.
"Where is she?" He asked suddenly, fear bubbling up in his stomach.
"I assume packing. She wished to be alone but her family has requested her presence at the funeral in Kyoto and the ceremony in Hong Kong."
Aido nodded and looked at his feet before looking back up at the Chairman. "I'd also like permission to accompany Koneko to Kyoto and if I am welcomed, Hong Kong."
The Chairman sighed and sat back in his chair. "I can give you permission to leave the grounds for Kyoto but as for international travel, especially something to do with vampire society I can't fulfil your request. Kaname, are you capable of getting in contact with Enlai-sama? Or indeed Lady Liu?"
The pureblood bowed his head. "I will do my best but ultimately the decision lies with the families of the deceased. However as a symbol of continued support I'd like to attend the funeral myself. Satoru fell in the line of duty of the highest honour – protecting a pureblood. He deserves every respect."
"I…I think all the Night Class would like that." Takuma spoke up. "That is, if the Mizuchi family welcome us. Our parents will be attending also I suspect so our place as heirs is with them."
Yagari quirked an eyebrow, well, that was certainly not expected.
Chairman nodded. "In any case, I grant you permission to attend the funeral of Satoru Mizuchi if your presence is welcomed… that is all."
They were dismissed and left the office together.
"Lady Liu won't allow another pureblood in her city." Yagari pointed out.
The Chairman nodded, "I know. But I could hardly tell them they couldn't attend the funeral taking place in Japan."
"Let's just hope that the visiting members of the family won't take offense to the large crowd descending on their 'peaceful' city."
"I intended to send Zero and Yuki anyways. The school needs representatives at such a documented event and Zero…"
"Documented event?" Yagari raised his eyebrows. "It's a funeral. A funeral that involves an extremely private family and you want to send half of the aristocracy and two humans to it?"
"Zero is a native of Kyoto and once, a friend of the family. And Yuki… Yuki will go anywhere Zero goes and I know Kaname will keep her safe."
"Personally I think it's a bad idea." The hunter disagreed but shrugged. "But I can there's no changing your mind."
"You're right." Chairman said. "There isn't."
-MOON DORM-
Her tears had long dried up when a knock on her door was heard.
"Come in Hanabusa."
Slowly it opened and there he was, in all his beautiful blonde glory.
"Koneko…"
She shook her head with a weak smile. "I'm okay."
"No you're not." He replied closing the door. "Listen I…I don't really know what to say. Other then I'm sorry, Satoru… he was a good man."
She nodded and took a deep breath. "They all were. Every one of them. They didn't deserve to die."
"No," He agreed. "No they didn't." Caressing her cheek he sighed and pulled her into his chest for a hug. "I'm sorry." He said again.
Her eyes squeezed shut holding in her fresh tears. "Yeah… me too…"
Aw, poor Koneko. I wonder who's behind the attack.
How will the Mizuchi family take to having so many aristocrat vampires, Yuki, Zero AND Kaname?
What do you think?
Let me know, no flames please xxx
