Chapter 11 - Secrets
Bella POV
My stomach rumbled as the smell and sound of bacon frying wafted through the door. I was so hungry, those sandwiches last night didn't really fill me up. I opened my eyes, squinting as the light burned my eyes. My stomach rumbled again as I turned over, realising that Edward was downstairs, cooking the bacon. The bed felt lonely and empty with Edward here.
I rolled to the side, ending up on the floor beside the bed. It was one way to get up in the morning. I looked around for something to put on, spotting Edward's shirt on the floor, I picked it up and pulled it over my head. It went to just above my knees, he was a giant compared to me.
The smell of the bacon drew me down the stairs and into the kitchen. I pushed open the door with such a force that it banged into the counter behind it, startling Edward and making him drop the forks he had been using to get the bacon onto the bread. He looked up as he picked them up off the floor and placed them in the sink. I don't think I would ever get used to this, having someone that looked like a male model off a fragrance advert, walking around the apartment and making me food. I felt like I was in a dream.
"Someone's hungry," Edward joked as he cut the bread and placed the bacon butties on a plate, "sit down and tuck in." I sat down in the closest seat to me and grabbed some food. Edward chuckled and sat down on my left.
"This is so good!" I mumbled with my mouth full of food, making it come out muffled. I swallowed. "Sorry, that was probably a very unattractive sight to greet you with first thing in the morning." Edward chuckled shaking his head as he started on his own breakfast.
I was so glad that it was a Saturday, even though I worked from home I always gave myself the weekends off to do what I wanted. It also meant that Edward wouldn't be working for the next two days either, which wasn't a bad thing, it meant I got to spend some time getting to know him after talking about myself all night.
"What're you thinking so deeply about?" Edward asked, catching me off guard, I really wasn't good at hiding facial expressions.
"Nothing much, just thinking about how I can spend some time getting to know you, now that you know everything about me." Edward looked worried "Hiding something, are we Cullen?" I mocked.
He shook his head, "Just wondering what it is you wanted to know." I mimed zipping and locking my lips, making him chuckle. "OK then, how about we go and grab some coffee and we can talk then?" I nodded, grabbing the plates and putting them in the sink on top of last nights. I would tidy them later.
I threw on my shoes, which were on the floor at the bottom of the stairs from last night, where I had thrown them carelessly, too busy trying to get warm. I picked up the mail off the floor and chucked it on the cabinet beside the door for later. It couldn't be that important.
*T*R*A*
We pulled up, in my car this time, outside a Costa coffee just outside of town, it was small and always just busy enough that other people weren't listening in to your conversation. I ordered a hot chocolate, whilst Edward got the strangest thing he could find on the menu.
"So, what do you wish to know about me Isabella?" He asked, ignoring my murderous glare at the use of my full name.
"Well, everything" I answered, "Where you grew up, tell me about your parents, why you moved, why you picked to move here?" I really wanted to know why he had turned up on my doorstep when he looked like he could afford somewhere much more luxurious to live.
"Well, I grew up in Florida, I loved it there, the sun never stopped shining, then I moved to Washington as my father got a new job. I spent ten years of my life in that house, I did have a long term girlfriend but things just didn't work out, we were two opposite people. I wanted a change in my life, but didn't want to be too far away from my family, it was a quick decision. I just packed my bags, got in my car and drove here, stayed in a hotel until I saw the advertisement for your apartment and called up. Then I moved by belongings in, not realising that my roommate was crazy, nearly wanted to run out screaming a couple of times thinking that she's murder me in my sleep, but luckily for me she didn't." I giggled, so he did think I was crazy.
"Sorry about that," I whispered ashamed I would even think of doing something as crazy as that. "I wish I hadn't done it now."
"I'm glad you did, because now we're even closer than we would have been if you were a normal person." He joked.
Edward POV
I don't know why I didn't tell Bella about Lauren, I had the opportunity to get it out in the open and out of the way so that she would understand and we didn't have to have an awkward conversation later. I guess I just didn't want her to know that I'm actually still married, I would rather tell her when I was divorced.
Speaking of the divorce, I got a text this morning whilst I was making breakfast for Bella. It was from Lauren's lawyer, saying that she had filed for a divorce and all I had to do was sign the papers. She didn't want anything, just her maiden name back and her life to live and enjoy with Eric.
We had just arrived home, still warm inside from our drinks, but being a clean freak, I was conscious of the fact that I was still covered in salt from going swimming last night.
"I'm going for a quick shower," I told Bella, kissing her on the top of her head and leaving her to open the mail, before dashing upstairs and into the shower, turning it on and jumping at the cold that blasted me before it became warm. I was still thinking about the best way to tell Bella.
Bella POV
After Edward ran upstairs to shower, I opened the mail from this morning. There was one that caught my eye more than the others, a big, crystal white, official looking letter that was addressed to Edward. It was from a divorce settlement company.
Something was wrong. I listened up the stairs, hearing Edward was still in the shower and tore open the envelope.
What? He was married?
