Chapter Eleven
Five hours later Isis arrived with a bag over her shoulder, Ryou meeting her and escorting her to the healing chambers via the secret tunnels so that no one else saw her.
"How is the patient?" Isis asked.
"I'm not exactly the person you should be discussing that with," Ryou replied honestly. "I do know that he was stabbed, whipped, cut, scratched, bruised and ah… sexually assaulted by five demons."
Isis winced. "Ouch. How did the five demons even get to him?" Isis asked.
"Anzu set them on her," Ryou replied. "She's pissed because she got caught cheating on Prince Heba and then got dumped by him."
"That still doesn't give her the right to do this," Isis said.
"Agreed. She's just angry and took an innocent demon that somehow ended up here to torture. She knew all the other demons were protected since Emperor Solomon ordered them not to be harmed," Ryou replied.
Isis nodded and thanked Ryou when he opened the door to the healing chambers for her.
"Ishizu, I'm here," Isis said with a smile as she walked over to her fellow healer.
"I can see that," Ishizu replied, removing the stethoscope she had been wearing to take Yami's blood pressure.
"Is everything alright?" Isis asked.
"Not really. I hope you brought some blood for him," Ishizu replied.
"I did. I brought 0- blood which any demon can take since we didn't know his blood type," Isis replied, placing the bag down and pulling a bag of blood out of the cooler bag.
"Thank you," Ishizu said, taking the bag. "You know where to put the rest of the blood."
Isis nodded and took the blood into the cold room, placing it on a shelf before she returned to see Ishizu hook the blood up.
Yami whimpered and tried to pull away from the line delivering blood, angry red welts appearing almost instantly.
"What the heck?" Ishizu said, looking at the line.
"Disconnect it, immediately," Isis ordered sternly, having seen this reaction once before.
Ishizu complied but it was too late.
Yami started struggling to breath and his lips turned blue. Her skin paled and she gained a slight fever.
Isis cursed under her breath and grabbed some medication, injecting it into Yami's thigh.
"What is happening to him?" Ishizu asked.
"She's having an allergic reaction to the blood. I've only seen it one other time," Isis replied. "Don't angels have this reaction?"
"Yes, but I thought demons didn't have it," Ishizu answered.
"Most don't," Isis replied, looking at Ishizu with a frown. "Him?"
Ishizu nodded. "She has a penis," Ishizu replied. "And a vagina. Either works until he can tell us what he prefers."
Isis's frown deepened. "Are there any marks on her shoulder?" Isis asked.
"One," Ishizu replied, rolling Yami onto his left side now that his breathing and symptoms have stabilised.
Isis gently moved Yami's pink hair to the side and saw the mark of the Demonic Royal family on Yami's right shoulder.
"Do you know her name?" Isis asked.
"She told me her name is Yami," Ryou replied.
Isis looked at him and then back down at Yami. "Impossible."
"Why is it impossible?" Ishizu asked.
"Yami was banished to the Cinta Realm and shouldn't be able to return for another four weeks," Isis replied.
"Has someone ever returned early?" Ryou asked.
"A few times… They always tried to destroy the world. Most times that's because they're angels," Isis replied.
"You mean, Anzu was right to do this to him?" Ryou asked.
"Well, not really. He didn't deserve this, but it may also save the world if we can keep him too weak to fight," Isis replied, kind of on the fence on what to do.
"This still doesn't sound fair on him. Especially since it was proven that he wasn't the one to harm me," Yugi said as he and his family entered the room.
"Would you really risk your life to save this boy from harm?" Isis asked.
"Yes. Until he does harm, no harm is to come to him," Yugi replied.
"Yugi, son. You can't make that promise when there is no way to protect him. He has the will to leave," Solomon said. "And, technically speaking, we have to give him back to his father and face the consequences for Anzu's actions."
"Maybe not," Ishizu said with a frown, tilting her head as she looked at the naked Prince on the bed that was covered by a blanket.
"What does that mean?" Heba asked.
Ishizu looked up at the group. "What if we have Yami's situation all wrong? Some things just don't fit him being a pure-blooded demon," Ishizu replied.
"What are you suggesting?" Isis asked with a confused frown.
"Think about it. His body can't tolerate demon blood and he's free early when only Angels can do that," Ishizu said.
"But he has a tail and demonic features," Isis argued.
Ishizu looked at Isis. "I'm not suggesting that he doesn't. I'm saying he shares features of both species," Ishizu returned.
"Impossible," Solomon replied. "No hybrid has survived past a couple years and all have been severely deformed."
Yugi rested a hand on his stomach. "Is there a way to check his bloodline?" Yugi asked.
"There is but it's only used for demon/human hybrids and used to screen out the human DNA in foetuses," Isis replied.
"You can screen out DNA?" Ishizu asked.
"Well, as long as we have a different set of DNAs to replace it and as long as we catch the pregnancy within four weeks of conception," Isis replied.
"Damn. Four weeks too late," Solomon muttered.
Yugi looked at him and then back to Isis. "What do you need to do the test?" Yugi asked.
"There's no way to get it here and no way to get him home without someone realising," Isis replied, her eyes looking at Yugi's stomach. "Perhaps there is another way. Comparing DNA with another hybrid for example."
"I-Is it dangerous?" Yugi asked nervously.
"For the foetus? Yes," Isis replied. "The best option is to wait until the sixteenth week of pregnancy."
"Eight more weeks," Yugi said.
"Can we risk waiting that long?" Isis asked.
"You're going to have to or you'll find another way to find out his genetics," Yugi growled.
Isis frowned. 'Damn mood swings,' Isis thought, knowing what is wrong with Yugi.
"Please, Yu. This may be the only way to prevent a war," Heba said, genuinely worried about what would happen if Aknamkanon found out that Yami was with them.
"I am not killing my baby so stop trying to force me to do things that will result in the baby's death," Yugi snapped, glaring coldly at his brother.
Heba raised his hands. "Okay, okay. No need to get snappy," Heba replied.
"Do not tell me what to do!" Yugi shouted, barely containing his sudden desire to choke the light out of his brother.
Heba took a step back into his father, terrified by the dark, murderous glint in Yugi's eyes.
A soft whimper drew their attention to the bed.
"Yami?" Isis asked, gently laying Yami onto his bed once more.
"Issssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssss?" Yami slurred, unable to control how drawn out he said the name.
"Are you alright, Hun?" Isis asked, gently stroking Yami's head.
She got no response though as Yami's head dropped to the side.
"Will he be alright?" Yugi asked.
"It's too soon to say. Isis still needs to double check everything since she specialises in demons," Ishizu replied. "Maybe we can pool our knowledge if we find proof that Yami is a hybrid."
"Very well then. Adios," Yugi said with a brief wave before he left the room.
Solomon rolled his eyes and pushed Heba in Yugi's direction.
"Okay, I get it. I'll go talk to the psycho," Heba muttered, following Yugi.
Solomon turned back to Ryou and the girls. "Ryou, you are to come with me to talk to Anzu," Solomon said sternly. "Girls, I want a full report on Yami's condition as soon as you've finished up. Isis, you'll have your usual room."
Isis and Ishizu nodded their understanding and turned back to Yami while Ryou and Solomon left the healing chambers.
"What will happen to Anzu?" Ryou asked, worried about his friend.
"I don't know yet. I suppose it'll depend on if Yami pulls through and how willing she is to speak about her crimes," Solomon replied.
"I doubt she'll be talking that much around you," Ryou replied. "No offense."
"None taken. You're probably right," Solomon said. "Perhaps we should leave her punishment up to Yami."
"I suppose it would satisfy his taste for vengeance," Ryou replied.
"That it would. Let's just hope he pulls through," Solomon said.
"He should. Demons are way more resilient than us Angels," Ryou replied.
"Perhaps, under normal circumstances," Solomon said. "Don't forget that the girls are questioning the purity of his blood."
"He still has demonic DNA. His recovery should be quick and less painful than ours would be," Ryou replied.
"Maybe. We shall see," Solomon said.
