A/N: Hi guys. I got another review so I'm going to try to update more! So enjoy. Oh, and someone's gonna die next chapter!
Hamish lightly carried me bridal-style then lay my head down on the white sheets in the van. He gently laid his hand on my cheek to check my temperature.
"Better you get some water and food. I'll be back, OK?" Hamish flashed back to the house.
"Hey," Lily sat by my side smiling. "So, they didn't even notice how pale I was. They're letting me hang out with them tomorrow." Lily nodded until she saw my failed attempt to smile. My head made me dizzy. Even though my mind felt at ease my body felt like it went on a trip. "Jason should have stayed with you."
Hamish rushed to my side with a glass of water and a red flannel to cool my head.
"Honestly, her first party and she gets drunk. And Jason's no better; expecting us to do his dirty work just like always." Hamish sighed. "How's she doing?"
Lily looked at Hamish like he said the most idiotic question. After a pause Lily eased up and looked at me with sadness.
"At least she didn't go kissing around."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You know exactly what it means you idiot. You went around kissing one of my best friends and a girl who just smiled at you from across the room."
"You gotta problem with that?"
"We were supposed to be in a relationship! We made a deal."
"No, the deal was to look as if I was your boyfriend. I kissed you in front of your friends and followed you around, remember?"
"Yeah and then you ditched me."
"I honestly don't see why you're so mad. Were not actually together, so it doesn't matter, even if it was for show. All boyfriends do it."
"No they don't, you sleaze!"
"Well I do, and you know I'm like that. So why you so mad? It's not like you have feelings for me."
"No, your right, I don't." but any girl could tell she was lying. Jason appeared at the back of the van to see what was going on.
"What happened?"
"She nearly blacked out, that's what happened." Hamish snapped.
"OK, let's take her to my house. We'll see if Max can do anything. If not then we'll just let her stay. Hamish, you can drive." Jason chucked Hamish the keys.
"Sweet." Lily rolled her eyes as she headed to the passenger seat; she obviously wanted to stay with me. Jason looked at me sadly like I was a patient who was bleeding out.
"Stop lookin' at meee like that," I slurred.
"I'm worried about you, babe." Jason gently cuffed my cheek in his hands.
"Well, ya wouldn't be if ya stayed with meee."
"You were the one that walked away." Lily scoffed in the front. "You stay outta this."
"Why? She's family now; I won't let you take advantage of her." Lily turned to glare at Jason.
"Ha! You never liked Mystery. Why you defending her now? You want to suck her blood?" Lily paused then sighed.
"Of course she tempts me, but that's not the reason, Jason. She helped me overcome my fear, and she's way better than you guys." I could understand her reasons why, but I think that was more aimed at Hamish.
"Oh please, you only like her because you have to."
"Guy'sssss, I amm actuualy here!" I spoke. Jason sighed.
"I'm sorry, babe, I just wanted you to see how it was by yourself, but I should have never left your side. You're my girlfriend, and that means staying with you at parties. Maybe I could take you to a vampire party. You don't have to worry about being popular there."
"That soundsss nice."
"Oh yeah, there's alcohol, drugs, and drinking innocent people's throats. Totally for a human to come." Lily murmured in the front seat slouching. Jason clenched his teeth at Lily.
"Um, Jason….. I…." I blacked out completely.
Jason must have silently carried me into his house and tried to lay me down on the sofa quietly. I could hear little sounds and couldn't open my eyes.
"Please dad, you have to do something," Jason pleaded.
"Jason, I will not use my power on her because you made a mistake. You must now face the consequences." Max refused.
"Dad, I beg of you. You know there's only one thing I can do."
"Do what you must; just leave me out of it." Max must have left because of the awkward silence.
"Jason, you don't have to do it," Lily said.
"I can't just leave her like this."
"Yes you can." there was silence.
"You know what, I'm just gonna leave and get me some dinner." Hamish must have backed away.
"Yeah, 'cause that's what you do best." Lily and Hamish must have run off after that. Jason sighed.
"I don't care what she said; I'm not leaving you like this." Jason leaned close so that he was lightly breathing on my cheek. He kissed my cheek, my kneck, and then sucked blood from my kneck. I could feel myself being drained and lifeless, that was until some blood went into my mouth; Jason's blood. He broke away to hold my face in his hands. "Babe, are you OK?" Jason waited. "Mystery!" Jason pleaded.
"Vampire blood rocks," I smiled.
"God damn it, Mystery!" Jason kissed my lips passionately.
"Jason?" I whispered.
"Mystery," Jason was happy, like I had been brought back to life.
"Jason, I'm fine. I don't know what the problem is."
"Oh, Mystery, I just couldn't handle seeing you like that. It made me feel really terrible, because I knew it was my fault."
"Jason, I'm tired." Jason laughed.
"It's OK, I have a bed. For you that is, just in case you wanted to stay here." Sleeping in Jason's bed, it gave me the thrills.
"Your not sleeping with me are you?" I smiled.
"Just until you go to sleep." Jason scooped me up and carefully laid me on his king sized bed then tucked me in. "You OK?" I nodded then he kissed my forehead and must have stared at me. I wanted to cuddle; I was cold, so I shivered. Jason chuckled. "Here." Jason cuddled me in a perfect embrace. Despite Jason being a cold vampire, I didn't mind, I was happy and slept like a baby.
In the morning Jason had already made me my favourite breakfast on the table.
"Morning beautiful," Jason kissed me in his arms. "How was your sleep?"
"As normal as ever- except for maybe me having nightmares all night. Why is it that every time I drink your blood I have nightmares?"
"Well, if you were awake you'd probably be turning into a vampire. If I gave you any more then… so what do you want to do today?"
"Well, I don't want to go to school." Jason chuckled.
"How about spending time with me and the boys?"
"The boys? What about Hamish and Lily?"
"Yeah, it's just- Hamish and Lily had a fight last night, and they sort of got together in the end of it."
"You mean like together-together?" Jason nodded. Great, now he won't be able to kiss me. I'm sure Hamish isn't that much of a sleaze. "Wow, where are they now?"
"I think they swam to Fiji." I widened my eyes. "Anyway, back to us! When you finish your breakfast we're going to our spot to talk with the guys."
"Oh, OK." I hurried to eat my breakfast.
"Mystery, listen, I promise we'll spend all of eternity together when this Anna thing blows over." Jason kissed my neck.
"Done!" I didn't care about eating, any time spending with Jason was enough.
Jason had organised to have a radio playing songs from The Rock station that we danced freely to, and then he changed the station to a song that had a slow song on it. My first slow dance with Jason! Our bodies close together- his cool breath blowing on my face- his brown intense eyes gazing into mine. It was just perfect for me.
A few songs later we had to go back to business after the boys showed up. I guess they were part of the clan now.
Lest greeted me in the coldest uninterested greeting he could with his dark brown eyes. Jason assumed that he doesn't really give a crap about many things but enjoys killing stupid humans; they were just souls that were suffering from being in a body that they didn't deserve.
Nick looked less threatening and was friendlier than the rest of them. He seemed like a gentle soul with his adorable blue eyes. Jason explained that he only kills criminals and could interpretate other people's moves in battle. He was useful, except for the fact that he looked at me in a shy way.
Namone was tanner than yesterday; he probably spray tanned himself so he would look more normal. He had bright orange highlights in his hair like Kora's blond highlights on her brown short hair that she did after me. He was slightly buffer than the other guys and Jason said he used to be in the army. His dark green eyes hardly looked at me like I was the least important person in the world- even though they were supposed to be protecting me.
Lucas was a scrawny guy with light green eyes and paler than all of them together. He looked like the underdog that no one noticed in high school. Jason laughed that he was an orphan when he was a human and killed everyone there to put them out of their misery. They were starving; he said. At least he tried to do the right thing. I guess he thought it's like pulling the plug and letting a family member go. I'm sure we'll get on fine.
Jason showed us a few demonstration defence moves with Lest. A few times I got scared because it looked like Jason were struggling, but when he landed on the ground and laughed I was relieved. I mean this looked intense, and they were only practising.
Nick was in-between being interested and worried. Namone and Lucas were just sitting there like he wished he was part of it. I thought it would be easier on us if I was friendly and we bonded a little.
"Hey, Nick, you OK?" I asked him. Nick flicked his head towards me as if I had said something important.
"Oh yeah yeah- I just-hmm…" Nick looked down. "I don't want anyone to get hurt. I'll kill that son-of-a-bitch if I could, but- I don't think Jason's actually worried about you. If it's any consolation- I'm sorry you got dragged into this. I'm only Jason's friend 'cause I don't want him to kill me ya know? He's-he's a very frightening vampire, he has killed vampires before. I mean- before Holly."
"You guys know he'll kill you if he hears you," Lucas buttoned in.
"Yeah right, Jason needs all the help he can get- no offence Mystery." I smiled.
"It's OK; Jason got you guys for a reason. If he believes you guys can help us then I trust him, and I trust you guys."
"Trusting people you don't know. Do you do that a lot?" Lucas frowned.
"Of course, 'cause then they can't be your friends… or more." I blushed in Jason's direction.
Jason and Lest had stopped to look at us, Jason smiled in my direction.
"Hey, Nicky! Show us how it's done!" Lest shouted at Nick. Nick sped towards them quickly and took them down after five seconds. "Again!" Nick and Jason leapt towards Nick at the same time, but it was too much of a blur for me to see. Jason made a grunting noise then fell on the ground at the same time as Lest not much sooner. "Lucas!"
Lucas smirked then made little effort to get there. Jason and Lest got up and charged at Nick with Lucas's help. I have to admit, the fight lasted longer with Lucas's help. Lucas and Nick got into a ball and ended up with Lucas on top.
"I win," Lucas smiled then helped Nick up. Jason chuckled.
"I think it's time we take a break. Hey, Mystery, want to go to church?"
"What?!" I was genuinely stunned.
"It's Sunday remember? I have to be near the church because of my dad and well- me life."
"I don't understand. Does this mean you want to go or you have to?"
"It's both, Mystery- it's complicated."
"And what about the rest of your clan?"
"They can sit in the van with me."
"What about me?" after I blinked Jason was right by my side holding my hand as we walked to his van.
"We'll see how it all plans out."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jason smiled. "Jason?!" but he wouldn't answer, so I dropped it. Jason always has been mysterious.
At the church Jason stopped in a park where we could see people walking in. I could see that Max's red truck was already there so he must have been inside already. Nobody talked in the van, so I just assumed I was staying in the van with Jason, but he must have known something else was going to happen. A woman outside with bushy brown hair and two kids walked by my side of the van and spotted me.
"Hey Mummy! Who's that girl?" her kid asked.
"It's the Pastors daughter, Michael," the woman replied.
"No it's not!" the woman rolled her eyes then looked at me. Realising I wasn't Lily she knocked on my window. I rolled down my window trying to be polite.
"Hello," I said.
"Who are you?" what, no hello?
"I'm Mystery- Jason's girlfriend." Never thought I'd say that.
"Oh! Why don't you come in?!"
"Well I'd rather stay here," and I'm not a Christian.
"And stay with the Pastor's son?" She folded her arms. Hey, he's my boyfriend she's talking about! "Surely being in church will be more interesting?" she was practically forcing me to be in church, even Joey wasn't this pushy. Maybe she knew like everyone else Jason wasn't a Christian. She could be trying to be nice, but she can't just insult my boyfriend!
"It's alright, Mist, go in. I'll wait here," he doesn't understand! I can't go in there!
"Then it's settled!" the woman opened my door, I don't know why she was like this. She's probably just a really pushy stubborn person in general. I awkwardly unbuckled and walked into the church.
"My name's Renee by the way," she smiled. I looked around in the church and spotted Joey straight away. Joey spotted me instantly is well and speed walked to hug me.
"What are you doing here Mystery?!" he genuinely smiled. The woman walked away with her children after she waved to me. I didn't want to offend Joey. I mean I had no interest in being here.
"Well, I, um…"
"Oh, it doesn't matter. You're here, that's all that matters! Come sit with my friends."
"Hey Joey!" a girl and two boys said at the same time. The girl made me jealous- she was pretty- like the really obvious pretty.
"Who's this?" the girl smiled at me.
"This is my neighbour- well- friend Mystery."
"Nice to meet you!"
"Nice to meet you too," I think.
"Mystery, this is Savannah, Riley and Ryder." they smiled so I smiled in response. Ryder moved two spaces so I was in the middle of Joey and Savannah. People were behind me, so I didn't want to disturb them if I stood up.
"Hey, your new right? Here," Savannah passed me a Freddo and a card with the church's address and asking me for my details to join the church.
"Thanks," I said. People stayed quiet when Pastor Max came on the stage.
"Hello everyone! What a wonderful day we are having. The sun is up and we have new people." Max winked at me, making me blush. "Might I just say that we are all here for a reason. Whether a friend brought you here or you just heard about this place you are all here for a special reason- to celebrate and encourage God! We all love God." Savannah cheered- it scared me. "And as Christians it is our purpose to spread the knowledge of God, honor him and love him. Our relationship with God is to be shared and spread throughout the world. It is our job to encourage others to be brave and love God for all he has done. Who wouldn't love God? God brings us peace and makes us happy." He was getting right into some intense stuff. "God loves us, we love him. That's right; he even loves you, and you, and you." Max pointed at me. "Now can I get someone to pray for all of us?" lots of people raised their hand. "Oh Joey, you did it last time."
"So?" Max sighed.
"Okay go ahead." Joey did his prayer and everyone closed their eyes and looked intensely into it. Hell even Savannah was into it.
"Amen," Joey finished. I repeated it at the same time everyone else did. A few people started to talk, so I thought this was my chance. Savannah looked like a poser, and I didn't want her to win over all the guys here. My conversation should have been with Joey, but Savannah bugged me more.
"Hey, Savannah? Why are you a Christian?" I asked her. Ryder and Riley gasped at me and gave me the 'you-can't-just-ask-someone-that' look. But Joey and Savannah and Joey just smiled at me. These boys have obviously already been convinced she was 100% Christian.
"Why wouldn't I be? God brings me hope and happiness. He's my guide to why I don't do anything stupid."
"But he doesn't ever come down to Earth." This time Joey gasped.
"Mystery! He doesn't need to come down to Earth. He's already doing so much. Just because you can't see him doesn't make him real." Words showed on the screen just in time for Joey and the rest to look forward. I felt guilty with him looking at me like that. I really shouldn't be questioning his religion.
"Stand up everyone and sing to God. Because maybe he'll hear us and smile down at us- you might even feel his presence." Max said then jumped down the stage to join us. The rhythm of the song was quiet easy and slow to get- anyone could sing along easily.
But the next song a band at the back played 'Supernatural'. This song gave me a rock vibe, so of course I was into it and sang my heart out. Joey smiled at me as he noticed how passionate I was with my voice. Savannah looked a bit jealous 'cause she obviously couldn't sing the notes as well.
But something happened as I danced; I could feel a warm heavy presence around me. It overwhelmed me with happiness and surprise so much that I fainted. Of course next time I woke up Max, Joey and Savannah were looking over me.
"You OK, Tory?" Max asked.
"Yeah, I think so," I said.
"So, do you believe in God?" he asked it like he had been waiting to ask.
"I guess so."
"Yes, ladies and gentleman! We did it!" the church roared with applause.
"Hey, just because I believe in him doesn't mean I support him or am necessarily a Christian." I stood up.
"But why wouldn't you be?" I stood quiet for a while as I stared at Joey.
"I think you and I both know why." There was silence. "I'm going to leave now."
"Fine! Go be with the enemy!" Joey shouted when I was at the door. I looked at him then Max. Max sighed and looked like he just wished I could understand and be happy. But it wasn't that easy, so I walked out.
Jason drove off without a word. He must have known something went wrong by my facial expression. But he wanted to make it better, or thought that's what I wanted him to do.
"You OK? Do you want to talk about it?" he asked.
"No, not really," I replied. Jason nodded his head and continued to drive back to our spot, only to find Hamish and Lily around a fire.
"Lily!" I ran to hug her, she was hard and cold as I should have expected. "How'd it go with your friends?" I teased sitting down on the log. Lily smiled.
"It was fine 'till Hamish stole me away. We swam to Fiji."
"Oh lucky!" Jason sat beside me and the other four sat on the opposite log except for Nick. I didn't really see the point in a fire- they would always be cold. So maybe it was for me or it was like a bonding time fire.
"So you and Hamish sorted it out, huh? He's not going to cheat or anything?"
"Oh no, and if he does-I'll kill him." Lily smiled but I knew she was serious.
"Oh come on. I may be a slut, but I know how to hold a relationship." Hamish defended.
"Really? So what would you do if Kora flirted with you?" Jason chuckled. Hamish smiled.
"Nah, she's not as hot as Lily."
"But- she has human blood," Lily teased.
"What do you want from me woman?" Lily and I laughed.
"Hey Lest, why do you like being a vampire?" I asked. Oh gosh, was this offensive as the Christian question? Lest laughed sarcastically.
"I don't, but I do enjoy killing the jackass's." Nick and Lucas chuckled.
"Yep, I made those assholes in high school pay for their sins. You want me to kill anyone in your high school Mystery?" Lucas asked. That was a great idea. I smiled.
"You know I would love for half of them to die. But that won't change anything. There will still be jackasses; this world is full of them."
"Then why are you dating one?" Nick asked. Jason glared at him. "What? He's the reason we're in this mess." I couldn't really defend Jason this time.
"Hey, why'd you even come?" Jason asked.
"Cause I want to kill that bitch, I know what she's capable of- you don't."
"Wait, you've met Anna before?" I wanted to turn the situation around a bit. It didn't look good when Jason was angry.
"Yeah, she's killed… lots of people. She will turn anyone to get what she wants. She doesn't care about their souls or anything." I turned my attention to Lucas.
"Don't you feel bad that you killed all those people? They didn't kill anyone."
"They were bad people Mystery. You don't know what kind of chaos they could have caused." I shook my head.
"That doesn't mean they deserved death." There was silence so I held Jason's hand. Lucas wasn't going to argue with me- so I looked towards Namone. I'm sure he doesn't like me- but it was worth a shot.
"Nice highlights you got their. Why orange?" I asked awkwardly.
"Why not orange?" he said. I looked down. Namone cleared his throat. "Sorry, I just thought it would be interesting." He was trying.
"Yeah, it looks wicked!"
"I like yours too." I smiled. "Hey, Namone- didn't you join the army?"
"It was fine I guess. But I knew people would notice me not ageing. Plus their plans were wrong and I couldn't do anything."
"Useless humans," Lest muttered. Jason looked at Lest.
"You got a problem with Mystery, do you?" Lest looked at Jason then me.
"No she's cool- I mean-" Lest puffed out his cheeks. "This is so boring! I didn't come here all the way from Germany to have a bonding session." Jason glared at him.
"Look, I know you don't like me. I don't expect any of you to. You don't know me. You only know that I'm Jason's girlfriend and he wants your help to protect me. I get it, you don't need my whole life's story. But I just thought it would be less awkward to talk to each other. Is that too much to ask Lest?" Lily smiled at my control. Lest rolled his eyes.
"Am I the only one here who wants to know the plan?"
"No, I thought you guys already had a plan- what were you doing at the party?" I looked at Jason. Jason looked at the fire then Lest and me.
"Well, the plan is to attack or defend when Anna shows up. I mean, we can't really do anything. We don't know where she is or what her plan is." What? That's it?
"Are you kidding me?" I asked.
"Sorry babes."
"Don't 'sorry babes' me! You expect me to sit around doing nothing? I'm not going to wait till I die. Am I?!"
"Babe, calm down." I stood up.
"No, I will not calm down! And don't call me babe or Mist! I have to wait for this while Anna thing to blow over so we can be happy. I thought that's what you wanted." Jason stood up.
"Of course I want that Mystery. I really am sorry, but there's nothing else we can do." I pulled my arms away to hold them.
A chill in the wind blew the trees with weird intensity and caught Jason's attention.
"Did you hear that?" Jason asked looking paranoid at the trees. We shook our heads then the chill blew again. "Shit. Get in the van."
"What?"
"Get in the fucking van, now!" Jason ordered. I ran to the backseat of van with Lily. Jason drove as fast as he cold making me scared of the road tumbling and falling off the road.
