Wow three chapters in three days, I'm on a roll. In this chapter Amora get's a little dark and twisty, I figured that someone as old as her would have a different attitude towards a fight than say Jack would. Hope you enjoy, here's chapter 11.
Disclaimer: I do not own Rise of the Guardians.
I do own Amora Summer though.
Amora was roused from her nap by a firm shake. She opened her eyes, fully prepared to kill the first person she laid eyes on. Her anger lessened slightly when she saw the nervous and slightly terrified cherub that was holding her shoulder.
"What?" she asked rather sharply. The tiny cherub flinched at her tone.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, but we have a problem." He said. His voice wavered as he spoke. Amora rubbed her eyes and sat up. Her voice was now sharp with urgency instead of irritation. Something the young cherub noticed.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"We're under attack." She jumped up from her seat on her bed.
"Why didn't you wake me earlier?" she asked as she flew down the hallways to the weapons closets and armory.
"This is earlier." He said, "The attack was detected and is estimated to arrive within twenty minutes."
"Who is attacking us?" she asked. She already knew the answer before he could open his mouth.
"It appears to be Doubt's forces." He said solemnly. She sighed.
"Have the alarms been sounded?" she asked. He nodded.
"Yes, and the defenses have been raised, we're in the process of handing out weapons."
"Good." She said, "Gather as many arrows from the grotto as you can, don't bother enchanting them."
"Anything else you want me to do?"
"Just one more thing," she said, "Send a message to the guardians from me. Tell them what is happening and ask for help."
"Is that all?" he asked, she dismissed him with a curt nod and she began to prepare. She would need her wings for this battle, she hadn't used them since the last time that Doubt spoke. They were not necessarily helpful in battle, but they were intimidating.
As she put on her armor she recalled the last time she had faced Doubt. It had not been one of her proudest moments, but she had done what she thought best at the time, now it was only too clear that she had been wrong.
She was staring down the shaft of her arrow that was currently aimed right at the young man now possessed by Doubt. His once brown, now black, hair was singed on the ends and his skin was beginning to burn away little by little. This was Doubt's fourth victim and Amora was ready to kill him. He wouldn't survive his possession anyways, even if Doubt left his body that second, there was too much damage for him to ever recover.
"Amora," he said, "It's me. You wouldn't kill your best friend, your only friend." She felt the power of his words seep into her resolve. Her arrow lowered a fraction of an inch. Her wings ruffled nervously behind her.
"I have to." She said attempting to convince herself. "You are a poison. I should have never trusted you. You aren't my friend and the world would be a better place without you."
"I'll make you a deal." He said taking a step closer, she pulled the arrow back a touch further and he stopped in his tracks. "If you spare me, I'll go away. I'll never possess another human. I will leave you to live in peace. Your kingdom will be protected, summer will continue, love will flourish. In a world full of doubts love will be the only certainty. If you leave me be, I will do the same for you."
She was silent for a moment. The war against Doubt had been a horrible one with many casualties. He had done terrible things, but he had been her friend for centuries, and she was about to murder him.
"Swear to me that you will keep your word." She said, "Swear on the Man in the Moon, that you will keep your promise." His eyes widened and he smiled.
"I swear on the Man in the Moon." She looked away and lowered her bow.
"Go." She said, he didn't have to be told twice. Doubt left the man's body as a cloud of black smoke. The man's hair returned to its natural brown and his skin regained some color. He collapsed on the ground and struggled to draw breath.
Amora turned her back on the dying man and took to the sky.
