My Sad New Life
Chapter 11
Umm… yeah I'm back. But wait I have an actual excuse this time! Our internet broke. So yeah, I couldn't update, but I wrote this chapter.

"Percy!" I hissed pointing out the window. He saw what I was pointing at and paled. "We have to get out there."
"How?" he questioned.
I put my hand in the air. "Excuse me; may I go to the bathroom?"
"Can it wait?"
"Not really."
"Fine, hurry back." I jumped up and practically ran out the door. I had to get out there. What would a monster want with Sophia? I had no idea, and I hated not knowing. About a minute later Percy joined me in running down the halls.
"What was your excuse?" I asked between breaths.
"I told him I felt sick and had to go to the nurse's office. Any idea what we're facing?"
"No, I didn't get a good look; something bad."
"Yeah, that sure narrows it down." Percy rolled his eyes. We skidded to a halt long enough to open the double doors that lead outside then we took off running again. When we could see the monster across the grounds, we drew our weapons. Percy uncapped Riptide and I brought out my dagger.
Sophia had noticed the monster by now. She knew something was wrong. Just as it lunged at her, I threw myself between them and blocked the creature's claws with my blade.
"Annabeth! What's going on!" Sophia cried, trying not to sob. I felt bad for the girl.
"Foolish half-blood," the monster snarled at her. Then she turned to me. "You should not have interfered, now I will kill you all!"
"If I had a nickel for every time I heard a monster say that, I'd be a rich demigod."
The monster whirled around to face Percy. The sudden motion caused its cloak to fall away, revealing a distorted face and a snack trunk instead of legs. I gasped quietly as I recognized the creature. "Oh yes, the famous Perseus Jackson, Son of Poseidon, Hero of Olympus! I will even more famous than you when I slay both you and Annabeth Chase." Then she lunged at Percy. He jumped and rolled out of the way, coming up next to me.
"Sophia, run! Get somewhere safe! We'll find you afterward and explain everything!" I called as I grabbed Percy and ran the opposite way as Sophia. As I had hoped, the monster followed us, not Sophia. "Percy, that's Lamia." I waited for him to get it but he just stared at me with his famous blank stare. I rolled my eyes. "She used to be a mistress of Zeus. Hera got jealous and cursed her, causing her to turn into a monster and eat her own children. Out of despair from what she'd done, she would scour Ancient Greece kidnaping and devouring other's children. John Keats, son of Apollo, wrote a poem about her. She is a daughter of Poseidon and the mother of Scylla."
"Met her; not very nice."
"Percy focus!"
"Right." We both jumped over a small hedge that surrounded the school. Lamia was close behind us. "I'll distract her while you sneak up and stab her from behind," Percy whispered. I nodded and slipped on my Yankees Cap.
Percy stepped out from our hiding place and held up Riptide. "Hey! Over here!" Lamia turned and started slithering towards Percy. He held his ground until her claws were just inches from his face then he jumped to the side and tried to slash under her arm. Lamia whirled around and Riptide missed its mark causing a painful, but sadly not fatal, blow to her cheek. As Percy was fighting, I was trying to get close enough behind her to stab her through the back, but the end of her snake trunk kept lashing out every time I got close enough.
I watched as Percy rolled to the side and slashed at Lamia's trunk. A deep wound opened up and Lamia howled. I tried to run up and stab her as she was distracted, but her tail whipped around and caught me in the stomach, throwing me back into the side of the school. I saw my hat on the ground next to me and felt a warm, sticky liquid oozing down my neck; blood. I felt dizzy. I tried to get up but fell back down almost immediately. In the background I heard Percy calling my name.
You need to get up. I told myself. I rolled myself onto my back just in time to see Lamia's distorted face looming over me. I could smell her foul breath as she laughed. "Puny demigod. You were no match for me, no hero has bested me since ancient times!"
She came down on me, but somehow I found the strength to roll to the side. I stood up shakily I see Percy stabbing down at Lamia, slicing through her tail and pinning her to the ground. She screamed in pain, trying to yank herself free; only succeeding in creating a bigger hole. I searched for my dagger. I must have dropping it when I hit my head.
I saw the glint in the grass at the same time as Lamia. The only difference was that it was right at her feet while I was at least fifteen feet away. She swooped down and grabbed the dagger. She stabbed Percy in the leg as he tried to pull Riptide free and dragged the knife down, creating a deep red line. Blood poured out. Percy screamed but somehow remained standing. Lamia lunged at his stomach but he parried and locked his hilt with hers, twisting. My dagger clattered out of her hands. Percy snatched it up and threw it to me.
I managed to catch it. Percy looked pale. I could tell if we didn't end this soon he would collapse from loss of blood. I was feeling light headed too, and the flow of blood from the back of my head hadn't stopped.
I rushed Lamia with my dagger in hand. At the last minute she turned. She raked her claws across my arm when I made a desperate jab for her stomach. I managed to clip her in the arm. I turned to run when I heroically tripped over a rock. I skidded across the grass on my stomach. Lamia loomed over me, ready to devour me. I could feel her above me, I didn't dare turn around. I heard a sickening thumping sound then a round object about the size of a head hit the ground next to me. I could feel the monster dust coming down around me.
I turned around to see Percy standing over me, Riptide in hand. Then I noticed the head. That round object about the size of a head was a head. Lamia's head to be exact. Her dead eyes stared up at me from her disfigured face. "That's disgusting." I muttered.
"Yeah, are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Do you have any ambrosia or nectar? We need to bandage your leg or you'll die anyway."
"That's encouraging." Percy rolled his eyes. "I have some in my locker. It should be right through this door and down the hall. We need to fix up your head too."
Percy put his arm around my shoulder and I helped him hop inside. Luckily there were no teachers to see us walking through the halls looking like we'd just been mugged. Percy and I got to his locker and pulled out his small first aid kit. When you get hurt as much as we do, you really need one everywhere. We each took a whole cube of ambrosia and I poured nectar on Percy's cut. It started closing immediately, but I still bandaged it up just in case.
We were just about to go home and skip the rest of the day when I remembered. "Sophia!" I exclaimed. "We need to go find her. She must be a demigod. Lamia sought her out."
"You're right. Which way did she run?"
"That way," I said, pointing in the direction we had come.
"You know, I think we just might be able to go to camp a day early." Percy grinned.

We found Sophia behind the janitor's shed. She was nearly in hysteria. When she saw us she jumped up and hugged me. "Oh my god Annabeth. What was that thing? It- it had a snake trunk, and- and its face and you fought it and-"
"Sophia, just calm down, we'll explain everything." I said in a soothing but firm voice. "Let's sit down, ok?" She nodded and we all sat on the ground. I pulled Percy aside and asked him to call for blackjack. We needed to get back to camp.
"Sophia this is going to be a lot to take in, you might not believe me right now but everything I'm saying is true, understand?" she nodded. "You know the Greek gods, from those myths. Well, they're not actually myths. They are actual true stories. What I'm trying to say is that the Greek gods are real."
"What." Sophia said, not really understanding what I was saying. "No, that can't be true. How do you know?"
"You know how in the myths the gods always came down to Earth and had kids with mortals? Do you think they've changed their habits in the last few millennia?"
"What are you saying?"
"What I'm saying is that they still have children with mortals. And those children are us. We are demigods, you, me, Percy along with others. One of your parents is one of the Olympians."
"You're playing a prank on me, aren't you? Where are the camera's, this isn't funny! You scared me to death!"
"Soph, look at me, I'm not joking. The gods are real and so are the monsters. That thing we just fought came from the depths of Tartarus. She meant to kill you. Monsters hate us. They hunt us down like rabbits. There is only one safe place for people like us. A place where you can train and be with other demigods."
"Where is this place then?" Sophia asked, still reluctant to believe me.
"It's a summer camp on Long Island in New York. We are going to take you there. Percy is calling our ride."
"That summer camp you always talk about. It's in New York. Are you saying-"
"Yes. How could I make this up Sophia."
"Ok, if the gods are real, whose daughter are you."
I smirked, despite the situation. "Let me reintroduce myself. I'm Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, hero of Olympus, and Official architect of Olympus. Percy over there is Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, god of the seas, child of the prophecy, hero of Olympus, and a thousand other titles that a don't want to name right now."
"Why didn't you tell me this before? I thought I was your friend. Don't you trust me?"
"Yes of course you're my friend, but I thought you were a mortal, and mortals can't know about the gods."
"I have to tell Ariel." Sophia muttered standing up. I pulled her back down.
"No, you can't tell her, she's a mortal. She can't know. And even if we could tell her, she wouldn't believe us."
"But-"
"We can't."
Just then Percy walked back over. "The boys are ready to go. We need to stop by your house to get our things, and Sophia, you probably want to go to your house to get your stuff and talk to your… do you live with your mom or dad?"
"My dad and my step-mom."
"Ok, you should probably talk to your dad. If he knows about the gods then great, if not we will have to tell him you decided to go to summer camp with us."
"Wait where are we going and how are we getting there."
Percy smirked. "We are going to the best place in the world, and these guys have offered to give us a ride." As soon as he said that Blackjack and Porkpie landed gracefully next to us. I looked over and saw that Sophia looked about ready to faint.

I'm done and it's 11:34 at night. I hope this longer chapter makes up for at least some of the short chapters and long waits. This one is seven pages in word! Seven! Please tell me how my fight scene was. I didn't want to make it to short or too long. Tell me how I did! I know you want too…
