Doom
(Hulk + Doomsday)
Name: Robert "Bruce" Banner
Biography: To tell the tale of the monster known as Doom is to tell three different stories. The first two are of separate beings scarred by trauma and abuse. The last one is about how these two are brought together in the strangest way possible.
Our first tale begins thousands of years ago, on an ancient world that would come to be known as Krypton, a crew of scientists led by an alien named Bertron tried to create the ultimate life form. At this time, Krypton was a harsh wasteland full of sharp rocks, poisonous air, and ultra-violent predators. Bertron's belief was that if he could create something that could survive that, it could survive anything.
Bertron accomplished this by, in crass terms, taking a baby, shooting it out into the incredibly dangerous environment, have it be immediately killed by any number 0f things, scoop up what was left, clone it, and then start the whole thing all over again. Bertron's belief was that each clone would adapt to better survive whatever killed it the last time.
Bertron repeated this process thousands upon thousands of times. After decades, his experiment finally succeeded. The final clone had successfully managed to kill every living thing on Krypton. Its skin became impenetrable, its strength unimaginable, and didn't need to eat, sleep, breathe, or even have internal organs to survive. But most impressive of all, his creature had adapted in such a way that if something did manage to kill him, he would always come back from the dead, immune to whatever caused his death the last time.
Bertron was ecstatic, his dream creation became a reality. But Bertron failed to account for one thing. The creature didn't just adapt to what killed it previously, it remembered every single time it died. And it knew that Bertron was the one responsible for each one of those deaths. It tore through the base Bertron and the other scientists were in and killed everyone there.
But that was not all. On top of the hatred he felt for his creator, the monster was unintentionally programmed at a genetic level to hate everything that lives, viewing all life as a threat to his survival that he had to kill first. He escaped Krypton and made his way across the universe, wiping out life planet by planet until stumbling on to the one world that had the forces capable of beating it. This world was Earth.
It is here where the monster had gotten its name, Doom. Granted by Booster Red (Booster Gold + Mary Jane Watson) after she had said that "Doom itself has shown up." When he arrived, he just started rampaging his way across Metropolis, slaughtering everyone he saw. It knocked around the entire Avengers League (Avengers + Justice League), only being stopped when Super-Soldier (Superman + Captain America) gave his life to put the monster down.
Doom's corpse was frozen in suspended animation and carried away by the US government, and the world mourned the loss of its greatest hero.
Now we move on to the story of Robert Banner, who preferably goes by the name Bruce. Even at a young age, Bruce was an exceptionally bright boy. However, while most people saw a promising young prodigy, Bruce's father Brian saw him only as a monster. A man easily swayed by his own anger, he'd repeatedly beat his son and his wife Rebecca throughout their lives, before finally stabbing her right in front of Bruce. Brian was taken to the insane asylum and Bruce was raised by his aunt from that moment on. On that day, Bruce became scarred for life, creating an imaginary friend that would serve as an outlet for all the rage Bruce kept bottled up.
Bruce's eventually graduated college with PhD's in biology, engineering, medicine, and nuclear physics and took a job with the military to help with a secret project.
And this is where our last story comes into play.
On the day of Super-Soldiers death, the US military realized that the world had just lost its greatest protector and that there were things out there that could kill even the strongest heroes in the world. Bruce was tasked by General Thaddeus Lane (Thaddeus Ross + Sam Lane) to study Doom's DNA so that they can use it to create a new soldier to protect them from future threats. But Ross never told him this, telling him it was supposed to be a serum that would make people immune to radiation and that Doom's DNA might hold the key.
After months of testing, Banner believed he found the solution that would make humans completely radiation resistant. And, not knowing what it was really for, he tested it on himself, while blasting his own body with gamma radiation to prove that it worked.
But something went wrong. The serum flowing inside Banner's veins reacted to the gamma radiation and made him mutate. His skin became green, giant bone protrusions burst out of his skin, his body became bigger and his muscles swelled. At that moment, Banner was gone and what stood in his place rampaged throughout the lab before escaping.
The next morning, Banner had found himself in the middle of the desert. He followed a road for miles in the hot sun before coming a cross a diner. There he heard the news of a green version of the monster that killed Super-Soldier appearing out of nowhere. Doom had returned.
Although, he wasn't quite the same as he was before. While it still had the same memories as the Doom before it, this Doom was no longer a mindless beast that killed everything in sight because it viewed them as a threat. Merging with Banner caused it to develop a personality based off of different aspects of the doctor's psyche. Specifically, it developed a personality based off of the frightened young child Banner used to be. As a result, Doom had developed a childlike mentality, preferring to be left alone rather than actively hurt someone. This also meant that Bruce was subconsciously serving Doom as the angel on his shoulder, allowing him to recognize people who aren't a threat to him and either can't or won't hurt him. Banner also found that he transforms into Doom every time he gets angry and that Doom becomes stronger the angrier he gets.
Banner tried to use Doom to do some good, saving the world from supervillains like Solomon (Abomination + Solomon Grundy) and The Leader (The Leader + Hector Hammond). He even became a member of the Avengers League, though mostly so that they can keep an eye on him. But Doom's recurring rampages and the public's memory of Super-Soldier's death made him a pariah. Eventually, several members of the superhero community decided that Doom was too dangerous to stay on Earth and blasted him into space, trying to send him to a peaceful uninhabited world where no one would bother him anymore.
After a series of unfortunate events, Doom returned and he became angrier than he ever was before. His very presence boiled oceans, his footsteps caused earthquakes felt across the entire United States. If it wasn't for Iron Bat (Iron Man + Batman) blasting him with a space laser, he would've definitely lived up to his prophesied title of World Slayer.
But despite all this, Doom continues to be a force for good; moving beyond the monster he once was and even finding companionship in a world that fears him. Just don't make him angry. You would NOT like him when he's angry.
Powers & Abilities: Bruce Banner maintains a genius level intellect, possessing a mind so brilliant that it cannot be measured by any known intelligence test, and is recognized as one of the top ten smartest heroes on Earth.
Doom on the other hand does not have much going on when it comes to brains. However, he definitely makes up for it in brawn. The original Doom was strong enough to beat Super-Soldier to death! And now, Doom's strength grows with his rage, potentially making him unstoppable.
Doom also has sharp bone protrusions around his body, sharp enough to cut through a Kryptonian. He can extend these protrusions to form claws that can become venomous and extend to a full meter.
He can survive in space and doesn't need to eat, drink, or sleep.
He can regenerate from any wound far faster than an average human. One example was when he had all his skin blasted off and he grew it back in under a minute.
But the most important ability of all is his resurrective immorality. Meaning, if anything could kill Doom, he will always come back to life, forever immune to what killed him the last time.
Appearance: Dr. Banner has the general appearance of a mild mannered scientist. Nice face, frail-looking, brown hair and eyes to match, and typically wears glasses.
Doom on the other hand is an eight foot tall, 600 pound mass of muscle. He has green skin and long dark green hair that hangs loosely. His bone protrusions are white and poke out of his arms, legs, chest, and back. He has no visible lips, revealing rows of sharp teeth. He has a beard made of these protrusions as well.
To make sure Doom wouldn't run around pantsless, Banner bought the stretchiest pairs of pants he could find. Much to his chagrin, they're all purple, so that's typically what Doom would be wearing as well.
