DAY
Tess is always the first to notice I'm coming home.
John started working, so now I have to get back on my own. The good thing: I leave June at her house. And maybe I'll kiss her goodbye. If not, there's always a hug.
The bad part: There's actually none. John is a pain in the ass when he wants to.
"Hey there," I say when she opens the door. A big smile on her little face. "How was your day?" I ask hugging her.
"Fine. Some people came here early. They said I have to go to school and I don't want to," she tells me. She looks really sad about it.
"You have to," I say, using my soft voice. I can't explain how much I understand her. "It'll be fine. You'll make friends."
"There you are." Mom appears with Eden. "How was your day? Are you hungry?" She asks as I leave my bag on the floor.
"It was fine," I respond. "Can you make me something to eat? I have to go…" I say casually walking at the kitchen. She stops me by putting a hand on my chest.
"What do you mean with that?"
"That I have to go, mom. Homework. I can't deal with all these texts," I explain her.
"Daniel, we have to talk about something. I actually need your father here," she says and I start to feel stressed. I have to be at six o'clock in June's house, so we can take the train that passes at half past six.
"What is it about?" I ask bothered.
"Well," she looks at the stairs, like if dad was going to come down in any moment. "You're dating June, aren't you? You're teenagers. I mean," she tries to explain the best she can. I understand it and I feel my whole body burning of shame.
"Mom, don't," I plead. "I'm not dating June." It kinds of bother me to say that. "We're just friends. We care about each other. We only have each other."
"You're a boy and she's a girl anyway. We need to talk-"
"No. Thank you. John already explained it to me and no. Please. I know what to do and what not."
"You know?" She asks, now frowning. "John told you this? At which age?" Now she's angry. Great.
"This year. When he saw me with June."
She exhales. Now her face is relaxed. I beat she's cheering John inside. It must be awkward to tell your kid how you made them.
"My food?" I ask carefully. She nods.
June opens the door, ready as always. She gets out of the house and we walk in silence towards the rails of the train.
"How's your brother?" I ask. She looks at me.
"Fine, thank you," she responds. Something about her feels awkward—like if I was making her feel in that way.
Was because I told her I love her? Maybe I shouldn't have. I mean. Can it affect it so much?
Of course. She's June.
"I'm sorry," I tell her and she frowns. "I told you that thing today and I shouldn't have becau-" I try to say, but she shakes her head.
"It's fine." And now her face has a weird expression. "I-I," she starts to say but something stops her. The train sounds at the distance. I frown. Is she…? "I- I think you should help me with that train. I mean. To get in the train."
I smile.
When I'm on the train, she jumps and I hold her. My face close to hers.
"I love you too," she screams. She really screams. Her eyes closed, the wind hitting his long ponytail. I laugh a little.
"I knew it, sweetheart," I respond. She opens her eyes and gives me the sweetest smile.
JUNE
Day is talking to some guys, guys that Vernon –the guy that was about to burn the newspaper where my parents appeared- brought to us.
He's so charming. He has a voice, he's a leader. He just hasn't had the chance to notice it until now.
After a minutes, he turns at me with a winner smile. He did it. He convinced them to help us.
"Work done. We just have to pay them with some food and clothes after the work is done."
I cannot do anything, but hug him.
Justice is going to happen, the death of my parents won't be in vain.
I will save the people as they wanted to. The Republic is not going to win this time.
GuestAngel: Hello there, I'm wondering if I can talk with you somehow? My apologies for all the problems you pointed at with my writing. At the beggining I said that my first language isn't english, so sometimes I don't get that I'm using weird words (I actually know that I do that), and I'm trying to improve. But anyway, thank you for the comment. I hope you can hold into this story until the end (like 3 chapters more). Glad you liked the romance.
