Innocence and Evil

Just as Emma finished her shower and exited the bathroom, she suddenly remembered that she's going to have her second pre-natal checkup two days later. It had been four weeks since she last met with her doctor. Although she's only twelfth weeks along, her pregnant belly was clearly visible, even when she's wearing a loose pajama gown. She eyed the bed which Hook was lying on. "Killian?"

"Yes, love?"

"I'm going to the doctor's the day after tomorrow, you coming with me?" she asked, with her lips curled up into a smile.

"Sure, love. Do you think I would let you go alone this time?" he asked rhetorically. "Now, come join me in bed," he patted the empty side of the bed. "It's getting late and you, my love, need to rest now. Or you will be tired for the entire day tomorrow."

"But I'm not tired now!" she protested. "I still have some files to go through."

Killian sat up and walked towards her. He ushered her towards the bed, and said, "Get some sleep now. Don't over-exert yourself, love. I don't want anything happen to you or the baby." He sounded really concerned.

"Fine," she finally gave in, "I'm going to bed now, only because you asked me to, not that I'm tired."

"Hi, Emma!" The doctor greeted when she and Killian walked into the office. "Good to see the father coming with you, Emma. So… any unusual symptoms lately?"

Emma gently shook her head.

"Then shall we take a look at the baby?" The doctor suggested. She then told the technician to set up the ultrasound machine and had Emma lie down on the examination chair. Not long later, sounds of heart thumping were emitted from the machine. "Hear that? That's your baby's heartbeat," the doctor glanced at the monitor, and continued, "145 beats per minute. I'd say you'll have a strong and healthy baby."

Both Killian and Emma's eyes were fixed on the screen. Their baby was moving its arms like it was happy to see its parents. "That is our baby, love," he said, gripping her hand tighter, "I can't believe I'm looking at our baby right now!" He then kissed her on the forehead. "I love you, Swan."

These words struck her like lightning. This was the first time for her to hear him say that he loved her. But she wasn't ready to say it back. Deep down in her heart she was still afraid that he might abandon her like Neal did. She still feared the uncertain future. "I know," she answered, and squeezed an awkward smile.

The doctor's voice interrupted the sweet moment. "Do you want to know the baby's gender? Although it wouldn't be hundred percent accurate at this stage of pregnancy, some parents-to-be still want to know the gender so they can prepare nursery stuff while some just want to be surprised when the baby's born. What is your preference?"

They looked at each other. "You decide, love. I don't mind either way," he shrugged.

"No, we decide together. We're doing this together. I don't want you to feel left out. Would you like to know the baby's gender now?" After taking a few seconds to consider, he nodded.

Acknowledging his indication of preference, the doctor continued moving the wand on Emma's stomach. "I think I'm looking at a girl here. But as I said, it's not hundred percent accurate," the doctor stressed. "We'll be more sure when you come back next time."

"We're having a daughter! That suffices for a celebration," he said smugly. Then they made a left turn and headed to Granny's to commemorate the event. After they settled in the booth, Emma's cellphone rang. "Hello?" she mumbled into the phone. "Wait, you're breaking up. Let me go outside first." She gestured to Killian that she needed to take this call outside and exited from the diner.

Killian watched Emma pacing around while she was chatting on her phone. He wondered who she was talking to.

Moments later Emma shoved her phone back into her pocket and re-entered the diner. "Who were you talking to with your talking device?" Killian asked nosily.

"It's… It's just a friend. When did you get so curious?" she raised a quizzical eyebrow.

"There's no harm asking, right, love?" A ravishingly charming grin played over his lips.

"You haven't called me for weeks. I wonder what happened to you."

"One of the girls is ill. I have to take care of her so I don't have much time left to myself."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope she'll get better soon."

"I hope so too. So any updates on your pregnancy? Did you have another checkup?"

"Yeah I just had the ultrasound this morning. And I think I'm having a girl."

"Wow, congratulations! Look, can I call you later? My girl is asking for me now."

"Sure, we'll talk later. Bye."

After Emma hung up, Vera felt a rush of ineffable jealousy surged up within her. This woman's not going to have this baby girl with her Killian. She couldn't bear at the thought of sharing the man she loved with another woman. She wanted Killian all to herself.

She un-rolled the layout of Granny's Diner. "Here is the front door… Here is the counter bar… And here, is the freezer…" She murmured to herself. A malicious plan was simmering in her mind…

Okay I finally finished a new chapter! Tell me what you think!
