Of course he knew where she was, deep in the back of his mind he always knew where Elena was, but for the first time someone other than his brother and Elena took priority. After Bonnie left him standing in the forest opening, he wasted no time picking up Damon's scent that oddly enough led back to the boarding house.
Once he got there he noticed how the house seemed ominous, something that he had to once again grow accustom to after moving back in a little after Elena chose his brother over him. He still could remember when he told Caroline and Bonnie about his plans to move back in, their reactions were completely different. Caroline called him every name in the book for allowing himself to be dragged down and forced to watch their disgusting toxic relationship play out and fail.
Those were her exacts words.
Bonnie on the other hand was quieter about the issue, she only shrugged and said you're doing this for your brother. And she was right. Everything Stefan did since Damon strolled into town and made a complete mess of his life, was in the name of his brother.
Stefan was angry but eventually got over the fact the Damon killed Lexi, He turned a not so blind eye to his brother actively pursuing Elena by suggesting they take a road trip just so she could sort out her feelings while he stayed behind and struggled with being Klaus' gopher all because he wanted to save his brother's life.
His repayment for his good deeds was of course Damon stealing the love his life, while he let him. But now for some reason Damon felt like the shoe was on the other foot and that he was taking something from him.
Maybe he was.
Stefan pivoted on his feet when he caught movement in the corner of his eye.
"Here to do damage control?"
Stefan heard and he shrugged. "What did you tell Bonnie?"
It was Damon's turn to shrug as he walked out of the shadows, he smirked when he saw Stefan tense a little. He guess the unhinged look was really working for him. "I told her the truth. She was going to find out soon enough."
Stefan watched as Damon took a sip of the almost empty glass of bourbon. "Why don't you stop with the word play and just tell me what the hell you said to Bonnie? I know you said something to her because I –"
Damon's eyes narrowed "Go ahead and finish it brother, finish what you were going to say."
Stefan rolled his eyes, the pause wasn't because he wanted to protect Damon's feelings, whatever the hell those might be. "I can feel it, whatever the hell you said to her upset her and I need to know what it was."
"Why, so you can make it better? So you can swoop in and be the knight and shining armor that she's been secretly longing for? Bonnie doesn't need saving Stefan." He was practically standing on top of Stefan now. "She needs to embrace what she is by being selfish—"
Okay, this conversation was starting to sound a little too familiar to Stefan "She's not Elena, Damon."
Hearing that cut Damon's tirade short, but he wasn't done. Stefan continued. "This is not like when Elena turned, we hated the role we played in ruining her life, but you and I both know Elena turning was the best thing that could happen to everyone."
Elena being a vampire meant less sacrifices and innocent people being hurt, in other words Bonnie's martyr act was cut down in half.
"Bonnie, was not out cut for this." He said lowly.
Damon couldn't disagree more.
"Did you forget that the witches knew that this was going to happen? This was always in the cards and the difference between you and I brother is that I know Bonnie is stronger then you give her credit for."
Stefan scoffed and shook his head "Damon, I know you have more experience with Bonnie out of the both of us. But let's not act as if you give a damn or paid enough attention to Bonnie to know what her wants and needs are."
Damon's grin was lethal "trust me brother, I know all about Bonnie's wants and needs."
Stefan unconsciously balled up his fist, fighting the urge to knock his brothers fucking lights out. "Meaning?"
Damon almost laughed at Stefan trying to control his temper. "Sorry brother, I was sworn to secrecy."
Bonnie wrapped the towel around her small body, she spent almost an hour soaking in the bathtub lost in her thoughts. She didn't know why hearing about Stefan's feelings for Elena had upset her, but she had spent an hour denying that it did until she finally gave up.
Bonnie walked across the room and swiped the mirror with her small hand.
"Someone's not being shy about covering up, I don't know if I should be pleased that I got the free show or displeased for the reason behind it."
Bonnie tilted her head to side studying the original standing in her bathroom. "Meaning?"
Kol laughed. "Damon's blood is running through your veins, don't bother denying it your mannerisms already gave you away."
"Kol, I can count on one hand the number of times we've talked and ran into each other. Please don't act like you know me." She said while brushing through her wet hair.
"Blood tells a thousand tales, love."
The brush stilled in Bonnie's hair before she placed it down. She sensed Kol had entered her bedroom the moment his foot hit the floor, she probably should question how he had access to her house but for some reason she didn't really care. Her father was on vervain and the house was still in her father's name so he couldn't have gotten in by compulsion or death.
But then she realized she wasn't at home, she was at her grams.
"Of all the places to run and hide you came to the one place that leaves you completely vulnerable."
Bonnie laughed at this. "Vulnerable?" she turned finally looking at him head on. She stretched her arms out "this place draws you in like a moth to flame. It's a place where I can remember who I am and what I'm capable of. The one place that I can gather my thoughts and decide whether I want to take what I want or runaway like a coward. Something I've grown accustom to doing over the last two years all in the name of friendship."
Kol studied the witch for a second, something was different. The spark in her green eyes wasn't as vibrant as when he first met her, in fact it was almost diminished. Damon's blood was strong but nothing that could bring on this much change.
But what if it was?
His jealousy felt like a caress up her spine, she shivered and almost grinned at the expression on the originals face. She will never grow tired of catching an original off guard.
She flashed in front of him taking note of his sharp inhale. "Now, about my death. What is it that you think you know?"
The change in the subject caused his head to spin. He could've sworn they were talking about three different things just now. He cleared his throat before staring into her eyes intently "What do you know about a cure?"
Bonnie raised a perfectly arched eyebrow "A cure for what?"
Kol smirked "A cure for vampirism and the reason behind your death."
Bonnie blinked for a few moments, this had to be some type of joke. "I'm sorry what?"
"I think you heard me, someone who obviously knew about the cure wanted the only person who could possibly accomplish the goal of retrieving it dead."
"Let's say I believe you, how do you know all of this?"
Kol gave her a sly smile and walked closer to the young hybrid who didn't take a step back. He wondered if she remembered that she was still standing in front of him in nothing but a towel. "I've been around a long time darling, I've traveled the world and in that time I've grown" he twirled a string of Bonnie's hair between his fingers "quite fond of the company I kept, namely the witches. I'm pretty fond of them."
Bonnie gave her own sly smile "Does that supposed to mean something to me?"
"It supposed to mean everything considering they are the ones who've informed me of the legend of the cure and how it was created by your ancestor."
Bonnie's smile fell from her full lips.
He grinned knowing he had her attention "Let me tell you a story about Qetsiyah Bennett and the man she loved whom later betrayed her, Silas."
Bonnie was all ears after that.
After spending almost two hours listening to this new information about the cure and an additional hour getting Kol out of her grams house. A fully dressed Bonnie Bennett picked up her cellphone and dialed Caroline,
"Are you okay?"
Bonnie frowned "I'm fine, why would you ask?"
Caroline popped her hand on her hip. "Because you're my best friend, scratch that you're my sister and that's what sisters do, we worry about each other."
Bonnie smiled at hearing that "Well, don't worry your pretty blonde head I'm fine, in fact I'm better then fine."
Caroline believed it because she could hear it her voice. "What brought on the welcomed mood change?" blue eyes suddenly widen "Oh my god Bonnie did you get laid?"
Bonnie almost tripped down the stairs she was walking "What?"
"I'm not judging or anything, ok if it was your cheating dick of an ex-boyfriend then I'm totally judging." The blonde waved a hand before plopping down on her bed.
"Caroline, I did not get laid." Bonnie paused for a second letting that sink in, it's been a long six months since the last time she had sex and her encounters with both Kol and Damon didn't even light her libido as much as it did there's.
Wasn't sex and blood like a thing to vampires? Maybe it took a little more than that to light her fire especially since she was an emotions eating hybrid.
"Bonnie, are you still there?"
Bonnie blinked forgetting Caroline was still on the phone. "Look, me at the boarding house in about 15 minutes there's something you need to know."
Caroline frowned "If It's something I need to know just come over or tell me now?"
Bonnie sighed "Fine, it's something we all need to know."
Caroline was up slipping on her ankle boots and grabbing her keys. "What's going on Bonnie?"
"I know why someone tried to kill me.
"Stefan ended the call and turned to face Damon who was listening to the entire conversation. "I guess I don't have to tell you Bonnie is on her way over here. Apparently, she has something important to tell me." He eyed Damon "You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you Damon?"
Of course he didn't have the slightest clue as to what the hell Bonnie was talking about. But he wasn't going to let Stefan know that, "Again, wouldn't you like to know."
Stefan narrowed his eyes and before he was able to say anything the front door opened and in walked in Caroline.
Damon groaned. "What the hell are you doing here Blondie?"
Caroline ignored him and talked to Stefan instead as if Stefan was the one who asked the question. "Bonnie called and told me to meet her here. What the hell is going on Stefan?"
"Maybe she found a way to end this farce of a sire bond between you two."
Both sets of eyes swung in his direction and the dark haired vampire shrugged.
"You would like that wouldn't you?" Caroline smirked when she saw Damon's face fall, but she wasn't done. "Sorry to burst your pathetic bubble, but unlike you and Elena, Bonnie and Stefan are destined, sorry." She ended with a shrug.
Stefan swallowed hard at hearing this suddenly wondering with everything that happened was that the correct word to describe him and Bonnie? Were they destined?
Damon can practically see the wheels turning in his brother's head, he needed to end this shit now.
Not a moment after the thought passed Damon's mind, Bonnie burst through the door. The tension in the room becoming catnip to Bonnie, she licked her incisors, her gums starting to ache suddenly craving blood.
Bonnie eyed Stefan who shifted a little under her gaze. "What's going on Bonnie?"
The hybrid regained her composure and focused on the reason she was there. "I found a way to cure us and give us all what we want."
Damon stood to his feet hoping she was talking about the sire bond. "And that is?"
Bonnie grinned "Our lives back, we can be human again."
