Chapter Eleven
"You'd be putting yourself at too much risk...you..."
"I'm the only one that can get near him."
Skye held Jack's eyes with growing confidence, holding her wrist out to him as a hint. Even now, she wasn't sure he trusted her enough to let her go without them despite all the things he'd said about accepting her as his daughter and caring for her, but still? Surely her loyalty and the work in Osaka had proved that she wasn't about to run off or become a threat?
Jack paused, before stepping back from her as he crossed over to a safe in his office.
"When – if – you can find him, what will you do?"
"Depends on how he behaves, doesn't it?"
"You'll keep safe?"
A flicker of a smile appeared on Skye's lips and she moved so she was sat on the desk, watching Jack.
"Tam would never hurt me. We both know that"
Jack let out a sigh, opening the safe and removing a black metal case from inside which he carried over to Skye. He opened it on the desk, taking out the small alien device that was locked inside. He placed it over the near invisible join on Skye's wrist, before touching his index finger into the reader to deactivate the band.
Skye whimpered as the metal released, pulling it away to reveal the raw red flesh beneath before she allowed Jack to do the same on the other wrist.
Jack placed the bands and device back into the safe, before moving back to Skye. Her hair had taken on a deep blue tone, her eyes closed as she took in the sudden hyper awareness of her surroundings and the muddle of voices in her head. Jack gently touched his hands to her shoulders, ignoring the static shock that went up his arm as he did so.
Focus in on me. My voice.
Skye swallowed, opening her eyes once the noise in her head began to fade as she learnt how to tune out what she didn't want or need to hear. Jack let one hand brush lightly through her hair, unable to stop a little smile as the light bulb in the room blew.
"You're a strange thing...see...this is why we keep the bands on...saves me on the electrics..."
Skye gave him a weak smile which faded as she heard a faint male voice calling for her. She climbed off the desk, going to the door only to pause a moment and look back at Jack.
"I..."
"Just be careful. Please?"
Skye nodded slowly, looking out over the Hub before she spoken again, her voice quiet.
"Don't let her out of the building...I...I don't want her to know..."
