Nora and Charlie

Nora walked over and sat down next to her lover's daughter. Sure she and Miles hadn't done anything more than kiss yet. This time anyway. Still he was and always would be the one man she thought of as her lover, her friend, her spouse, her forever. It was just the way it was. "So…" she stared as she checked the bruising on the side of Charlie's head. "Doesn't look so bad."

Charlie gave her a grim smile. "Could have been worse," she commented. "Could have been a whole lot worse." She leaned her head back against the wall and stared down the corridor at Miles and Aaron. "I heard him."

"Miles?" Nora asked even though she knew the answer already.

"I was…I was with my Dad. With Uncle Ben, I mean—"

Nora put one hand on Charlie's shoulder and shook her head. "He's your dad too. Miles knows that and it's okay."

"Anyway," Charlie scrubbed at a watery eye. "I was with him and I wanted to stay. We were at home and it was just like always. He was making us dinner. And I remembered how much I loved him and I just wanted to stay there forever and forget about everything that's happened. But I heard Dad calling me. And I couldn't stay when I knew he was here."

Nora nodded and pushed some of the hair falling in Charlie's face behind an ear. "He was a wreck," she informed her. "I…He was so scared we could see it and you know Miles; he doesn't ever show fear. I'm glad you didn't stay. We wouldn't be the same without you."

Charlie smiled and leaned into Nora's hand. "Yeah. You too."
