Chapter 11: New Friends

Author's note: Sorry for the lateness of the update. I have been working on other projects and was always unsatisfied with them. To see this chapter by third person point of view, please read Chapter 6 of 'Twilight Saga: Meteor Shower. Enjoy.

Renesmee's point of view:

A few days before Aro's trial, uncle Jasper's creator Maria showed up with six other members of her coven.

Uncle Jasper had told me all about the Southern Vampire Wars with newborn vampires as armies. I was appalled. But none the less it was in the past or rather sometimes I am told that there are some people in Mexico and the southern states that still protect their cities with newborns.

Maria seemed friendly enough in general and I was allowed to show her my memories when I touched her face.

Maria and her family then offered their services to Marcus to become members of the guard. Since Marcus had no desire to collect gifted vampires he accepted any volunteers who wished to live in the Tower of Voltera and become the vampire police.

It was later that day that I was with Jacob. He and I were with a group of several others when the giant chocolate brown wolf of Embry leapt out of the bushes from behind the trees and landed in front of us. He phased to human form. I had long since learned to tolerate that nudity with the wolves was unavoidable, though highly inappropriate as I am just a child, though mama sometimes bathes with me in the tub.

"Jacob, Nessie, we have new visitors." said Embry in a rush. "Three vampire-hybrids, not Nessie or Nahuel, plus one unfamiliar vampire."

Could this be true? Others, besides me and Nahuel? I touched my Jacob's face.

I showed him an image of us running to find them, and then they become our new friends.

"Get on my back, Nessie." said my Jacob.

And he phased into wolf form and so did, Embry.

We ran through the woods in the direction that the pack mind must be taking us. We then saw from a short distance away the chase of the four visitors. Then they were cut off from in front and surrounded by most of Jacob's pack when Embry, Jacob and I showed up.

One of the visitors was a male vampire. The other three were what appeared to be human women. One was Caucasian, quite tall with blond hair and blue eyes, she was most likely European descent. Another was shorter, had black hair, brown eyes and dark brown skin, clearly African. The third was Caucasian but with a hint of Hispanic, brown hair, green eyes and medium height, she was probably half Mexican. All the women gave off a lot of heat, and had accelerated heart beats. Not human. Definitely my species.

The vampire and his female companions stopped and pushed against each other back to back. They were clearly going to try to fight it out.

"Jacob stop! They're my own kind!" I practically screamed at him booth verbally and telepathically.

Jacob gave a quick bark to the other wolves and they all stood back.

Cousin Tanya, Kate, and Garrett, who's eyes were now yellow with hard effort, were all there.

"Sorry about that." said cousin Tanya calmly. "They're a little protective of there lands. The Quileute Indian reservation is a no vampire zone, unless you're invited."

The man looked at Tanya and smiled with interest.

"Succubus?" said the man, clearly he knew of the Denalis lifestyle. "I assure you, we meant no harm. We're just here for Aro's trial."

"Take a number." said cousin Tanya.

"We didn't mean to become hostile." said the man. "We got scared when we saw the werewolves."

"Understandable, I'm Tanya, from Denali. Leader of the Alaskan coven."

"I know who you are." said the man. "And in case you're wondering how I know, I have been secretly monitoring as many covens as possible for a great many years now."

Tanya was a little surprised at this confession, as was I. A peeping Tom.

"Should I be flattered or disgusted?" said Tanya.

The man smiled, nodded, and raised his hand in reassurance. "Neither, it's okay, I haven't been eavesdropping on private conversations or anything like that, no, I'm just a scientist with a human curiosity towards vampires. I meant no disrespect."

Tanya decided that this guy secretly studying them from a distance was no big deal. Then turned to the African woman.

"Sorry about that. I just wanted to talk and you were a bit feisty." then she turned to me. "This is my cousin Renesmee Cullen."

I got down from Jacob's back and stepped up to the man.

I reached my hand out and touched the man's face and gave him a flood of memories. His eyes widened with surprise and fascination.

Right at that moment Nahuel showed up along with Huilen.

"Joham," sasaid Nahuel, "you are an awfully long way from home. What are you doing here?"

Oh, so this is the good for nothing father, Joham, that Nahuel told us about.

"A nomad found us and told us the whole story under Marcus's orders." said Joham. "We were informally invited to attend a trial."

He then looked down at me.

"When I heard that there was another vampire hybrid here...well you know me." said Joham, as though the last part of his sentence made it obvious to why he was there.

Nahuel looked around at everyone and gestured to Joham.

"Everyone, this is my father, Joham." said Nahuel.

He said it with a tone of voice as though he was ashamed of the fact.

"Everyone, these are my daughters. My oldest Serena," said Joham.

He gestured to the tall, blue eyed, blond.

"Maysun,"

The African woman stepped forward and nodded in respect.

"and my youngest, Jennifer."

The green-eyed brunette stepped forward.

"My grand father would like to meet you." I told Joham.

Joham smiled warmly. "Then let us go meet your grandfather."

The three women approached Nahuel with smiles.

"Brother, it has been many months." said the one called Serena. "What are you doing here?"

"Alice Cullen, found me and Huilen, and asked me to witness for Renesmee at her trial with the Volturi." said Nahuel. "They thought she was an immortal child."

Just then mama arrived amongst the group.

"Sweetie, where did you run to?" asked mama with concern as she came over to me and picked me up. "I was worried about you."

"I'm sorry momma." I apologized. "Embry said there were other hybrids here. They were my own kind, I had to see for myself. Plus there was no need to worry, the pack would have protected me."

Joham looked at my sweet family exchange, and it looked like he wondered.

"You are quite fond of the child, miss." said Joham, who seemed confused by mother's chosen form of affection towards me.

"As any mother would be." mama responded, almost irritated by his tone of voice.

"But you are not her real mother are you?" said the part hispanic girl, Jennifer. "I mean, I don't understand."

"I am her biological mother." mama corrected in an almost reprimanding tone of voice. "I carried her and gave birth."

"But the mothers aren't supposed to survive." said the African woman, Maysun, matter of factly. "I remember my own birth the day I was born. I killed my mother, we all did."

Mama then decided that we should take this conversation to a more appropriate venue.

"Why don't we go back the the house, we can talk there." mama suggested.

Back at the house we all sat down in the living room. Grandpa and Joham shook hands.

"So you are the famous 'Stregoni Benefici'."

Grandpa smiled.

"And you are the famous Libisomon." said grandpa.

"Silly human legends, but amusing all the same." said Joham.

"You are the foremost expert on vampire hybrids?" asked grandpa. "We were planning for weeks to come to find you, or at least someone or something like you. Before Nahuel showed up to tell us Renesmee would not grow old, we were under the impression that she would die of old age in only 15 years from now."

"No, no, you are mistaken," Joham corrected, "physical aging for mortals is cellular degeneration, it starts at the moment of conception and takes about 80 years to kill a person of decay, oxidation, and other ailments of old age. But vampire hybrids have absolutely no cellular degeneration whatsoever, in fact their cells are in a constant state of regeneration. As strong as hybrids are when they are born, they become stronger as they get older. In fact, as adults they are not weaker, Nahuel and all three of my daughters here are as strong as any vampire."

"Yeah, I noticed." said cousin Tanya.

"Fascinating!" said grandpa. "I would like to know more."

Joham smiled.

"I thought you might." said Joham.

Joham then reached into his backpack and pulled out a computerized pad.

"This Tablet's hard drive contains all the data I have on vampires, humans, and hybrids." said Joham. "I tweaked the screen sensitivity so that the touch screen will respond to the ice cold touch of vampire skin."

Grandpa touched the screen and pages and pages of complex mathematical and scientific data on vampire hybrids came up on the screen.

"This is brilliant!" said grandpa as he looked at the tablet.

Joham then move close to me and got down on one knee and pulled out of his pocket a small metal computerized device.

"It's alright," Joham reassured, "this is just a highly sophisticated, scanning, sensor-device of my own invention, design, and fabrication."

He held the device close to me and it made some beeping sounds as it scanned me.

Data began to come in on the device's screen.

"Strength of skin as strong as steel." said Joham as he began to read off the data on the screen. "Body temperature 107.1 Fahrenheit. Heart beat, 180 beats a minute. DNA, biochemistry, genetic makeup, absolutely everything appears to be normal. It seems to me that you have here for yourself a very, very healthy young vampire hybrid. Also salivary glands are not producing venom, but I'm not sure if that is normal or not. And if I might say, she is as beautiful as my daughters were when they were her age."

"How would you know?" said the African girl Maysun. "You never even saw me as a baby! I never even met you till I was 4." her tone of voice seemed resentful.

"That was a mistake on my part." Joham said with a tone of regret. "No one regrets my former actions more than I do."

"Some of that information about Renesmee we already knew." said daddy. "Other parts of it we suspected, but we weren't sure of."

"I would like to know how young Bella here managed to survive giving birth?" asked Joham.

"Well, first we researched legends," explained daddy, "we found out that vampire hybrids eat their way out of the mothers. Our plan was to perform a very elaborate caesarean section by ripping open the embryonic sac with our teeth. Unfortunately, do to circumstances, we needed to perform it in an emergency without warning. After we got Renesmee out, Bella's heart stopped, where I then injected a massive dose of vampire venom straight into her heart with a syringe. Innovative and unorthodox, but remarkably effective. I pumped her heart until it started beating again, and then the venom healed her wounds."

Joham was intrigued.

"Remarkable!" said Joham. "Though I will say it never occurred to me to find a way so that the mothers could live."

Just then Marcus came into the room, he must have been listening from the other room.

"I am rather concerned, I hope you have in no way attracted human attention." Marcus warned.

"Well, there have been a few legends that have been started, but I assure you no human is the wiser." Joham reassured.

"Well, I would also like a copy of your research, and you may continue your research as long as no humans know anything." said Marcus.

"You have my word." said Joham.

I touched the faces of Serena, Jennifer, and Maysun, and shared my gift with them. And just like everyone else they fell under my spell.

"It is another thing, I have never encountered a hybrid with a gift before." said Joham.

"Actually we believe that it is two gifts." said aunt Rosalie.

"Really?" said Joham, curious.

"Well, I'm sure you know where vampires get their supernatural gifts from?" asked aunt Alice rhetorically.

"Yes," said Joham, his face brightening at the question, "it's caused by a genetic mutation within the DNA of the human that gives the human an unusual but subtle gift beyond the norm of the average human."

"Well," said daddy, "in the case of vampire hybrids we believe that they get their gifts from their parents, as both Bella and I are gifted, only Renesmee did not get our gifts, as far as we can tell, the pattern is that she took our gifts and she got the opposite, I can read minds, Renesmee cannot read minds, she can make other people read her mind. I can read minds from a distance, but Renesmee needs physical contact to make people read her mind. Bella can block any telepathic intrusion into her mind, Renesmee cannot be blocked from anyone reading her mind."

Joham twitched his eyebrow in interest.

"That is an interesting conclusion and I think it merits further study." said Joham.

"Do what you will Joham," said mama, squeezing me around my waist closer to her protectivly, "but our daughter is just a wonderful, happy girl who will live a long happy life. She came into our lives by accident, but she is a miracle and she is the best thing that has ever happened to this family. She's not an experiment."

"I meant no disrespect." said Joham repentant.

"I'm sure you didn't Joham." said mama. "However, some of us think that science is a means to benefit mankind. Your desire to study our daughter is just to satisfy your own personal curiosity, the science will never be put to good use."

I then perked up at the idea. "Wait, I want to help."

They all looked at me in shock.

"What?" said mama in surprise. "Sweetie, what do you mean?"

"I want to know more about myself." I said. "If he could run a few tests, maybe there could be more answers for all of us."

"The tests won't hurt her will they?" asked mama with a look of concern as she directed her question at Joham.

"You have my word." said Joham.

We all talked together in the living room for the rest of the day. We got to know each other, shared stories, and though Joham at times regardless of his flawless politeness, he always seemed a little creepy.

Joham's three daughters were quickly becoming fast friends with everyone. Nahuel kept trying to steer clear of Joham. He seemed to just feel happier as long as Joham wasn't around.

While everyone was talking, I reached up and touched Nahuel's face.

"Remember what I said about your father," I thought to his mind, "you're only hurting yourself, don't sink to his level."

Nahuel sighed.

He then walked over to Joham.

"Joham?" Nahuel greeted formally.

"Nahuel?" Joham returned in kind.

"Joham, I was just an experiment to you." Nahuel spoke with a somber demeanor. "You never cared about me. You never cared about my mother. You never cared about raising me as a child. On our first meeting you caused immediate enmity with me by speaking very insensitively of my mother. You quickly realized your mistake and you have been giving a full effort, though an insincere effort, to make it up to me."

"I am sorry you feel that way, Nahuel." said Joham.

"Just let me finish," Nahuel cut in, "I'm building up to something here that you will like...and now, after all these years, and after everything you have done, I am standing here before you...here and now...to tell you…that I forgive you. I forgive you, Joham. From now on I will call you father and you may call me son. And I would like to see you a little more often from now on."

Joham's jaw was agape. Whatever he had been expecting Nahuel to say, this was not it.

"Thank you Nahuel." said Joham greatfully. "I do not deserve your forgiveness, but I appreciate it all the same…son."

They then embraced.

A few hours later here at the house, we had some more visitors. But they were not vampire. It was at the edge of the meadow in front of the house, there was a loud distorted buzzing sound and with a flash of light, the guests magically materialized out of thin air. There were three of them, a woman and two men. Their clothing was most bizarre, each one of them wore a blue jumpsuit, tight-fitting metal chest plates, white capes with hoods. The capes were pinned to the shoulders of their jumpsuits by metal shoulder pads, and each one wore what appeared to be a utility-belt complete with a variety of gadgets that I couldn't even name, and each of them had a sword in a scabbard at their waists.

They were not werewolf, nor hybrid, or vampire. Their smell was unmistakable, they were just common humans. The visitors walked over to Marcus and bowed at the waist in respect.

"Marcus of the Volturi, we offer you greetings from The Lutz of Esper Mansion." said the one who appeared to be the leader.

Lutz? Esper Mansion? What are those? The way he said it, 'The Lutz', it seems like a rank, or title that means something important. And 'Esper Mansion', seems like a...what? A building of some sort? Or a place? Or perhaps an organization or group? Who or what ever they are, they seem to possess the ability to materialize out of thin air. No vampire that we know of can do that. And they seem to have full knowledge of the existence of vampires.

"I thank the Lutz for his respectful greeting." said Marcus returning the greeting, seeming to know who these people are. "How is he these days?"

"I'm afraid he is in poor health do to age." said the leader. "But he will ascend soon."

Ascend? That word has several meanings. But by the tone of his voice and use of his words, 'to ascend', appears to have some much more greater philosophic significance for these people.

"Well, I do hope that I will be able to see him one more time." said Marcus. "It has been far too long, over 180 years if I recall correctly. I don't think I know you though?"

"Well then, allow me to introduce myself." said the man. "I am Erik Morter, this is one of my fellow Esper brethren, Matilda Wormwood, and this is our magical friend, Arthur Haff a magician."

"The Lutz, asked us to come here to witness the events of Aro's trial." said Matilda Wormwood.

She was young. Younger than twenty. But she stood with dignity, and her face and voice showed great and much more mature wisdom and insight.

"Well, we will be pleased to have you here." said Marcus.

They then turned to grandpa.

"Dr. Carlisle Cullen, I have always wanted to meet you." said Erik Morter.

"Welcome to my home, and feel free to stay here as long as you wish." said grandpa.

"Thank you Dr. Cullen, we will take you up on your invitation." Erik Morter accepted on his friends behalf. And then gestured to us. "And this must be your family."

"Yes." said grandpa gesturing to each of us in turn. "This is my wife Esme. My sons Emmett, Jasper, and Edward, and their wives Rosalie, Alice, and Bella, and my granddaughter Renesmee."

Erik walked up to grandma, took her hand and kissed it.

"I would just like to say Esme, that Carlisle has excellent taste in women for you are absolutely beautiful." complemented Erik smoothly.

Esme smiled and would have blushed if it was possible for her.

"Might we go inside? It is a little cold out here." said Matilda Wormwood.

Of course since they are only human the cold would bother them. Though their capes look like they would keep them warm enough.

"Of course." said grandpa.

The guests were led into the living room of the house and sat down on the sofa. Mama held me on her lap.

"So...I feel naive, but...who or what are you, exactly?" asked mama, a little hesitant of her question. Fair enough, the question might be construed as rude.

The wolves and many other vampires there were also curious.

Erik Morter smiled and nodded with polite amusement.

"We are The Espers of Esper Mansion." said Erik Morter matter-of-factly, his tone of voice not as though it should be obvious, but rather with polite explanation to someone he knew didn't know.

"Never heard of your kind." said mama.

"That is understandable." said Arthur Haff. "We do not let the rest of the human race know we exist. You understand. They are Espers, I am a Magician."

"Magician?" asked uncle Emmett. "You mean like clever tricks and the slight of hand and stuff?"

"No, real magic." said Arthur. "I call on spirits, make potions, and cast spells."

"So you're a warlock or wizard or sorcerer?" asked uncle Emmett.

Arthur Haff raised his eyebrow in thought at the question.

"I suppose that is a suitable classification in layman's terms. But my kind prefer the term Magician."

"But what are you?" asked mama. "You smell human."

"We are human." said Erik Morter. "We were born by a one in a million random chance, where our brains are much more advanced. At a young age we learn faster, remember math and science details easily, we can come up with unusual scientific ideas that usually turn out to be right, and our brains allow us telepathic and telekinetic ability."

"What is Esper Mansion?" asked mama.

"Our headquarters," said Matilda, "our school, the place we are brought to when we are discovered. We are shown that we won't live a life of mediocrity, they teach us to train our minds and bodies to their fullest. We exercise, learn martial arts, practice with our powers, and we spend hours every day in meditation so that one day we might ascend."

She spoke of their lifestyle with pride. And there is that word again, 'ascend'.

"Sounds like Hogwarts." said mama half joking.

Erik smiled with polite amusement.

"No, Hogwarts isn't real. But you could say it is similar." said Erik.

"Who is this Lutz, that you speak of?" asked mama.

"It is a rank or title." said Erik Morter. "It means 'Our leader' and our wisest."

"Why do our call yourselves, Espers?" asked mama.

"It means we have heightened ESP in our brains when we are born." said Erik. "Sections of our brains that are so powerful, it gives us our powers."

"It must be amazing!" I said with feeling.

Erik smiled.

"It is child." He reassured me.

"What is this 'ascend' that you spoke of?" asked Jacob.

Then something happened inside my head. My brain automatically began giving me all kinds of complicated math equations. And I understood it. And then the words just came out of my mouth. "It means one can evolve their DNA to the point where they shed their physical body and exist on a higher plane of enlightenment as pure energy."

They all looked at me with mixed expressions of shock, surprise, and confusion. The Espers looked at me with a look that could only be described as, impressed.

"Sounds cool." said Jacob, not surprised that I said what I said.

"Nessie, how did you know that?" asked daddy, though he must have known how I knew because he read it from my mind.

"I don't know." I said. "I just sort of thought about it and the mathematical equations and scientific formula for subatomic energy ascension came to my head."

Erik twitched his eyebrow in curiosity.

"You know, young Renesmee, I think you might have the gift." complemented Erik.

I smiled at his praise. I got down from mama's lap, walked over to Erik and reached to his face and placed the tips of my fingers on his chin. I showed him telepathically my knowledge, and like everyone else, he was under her unintentional love spell.

"Extraordinary!" said Erik, clearly amazed. "Well, we have some questions for you."

And we had many discussions together on different topics for the rest of the day.
