A/N: *WARNING: There is a slight instance of what could be seen as minor torture against a minor character. However, I leave this warning as I understand it may be bothersome or uncomfortable to some readers. However I didn't write it to be sadist, as it was viable to the plot. If this bothers you, or could be a trigger, then skip the section with Ellen in it.*
The blessing/prayers by the Vicar were taken by the Church of England's website. Since I'm an American Roman Catholic (non practicing however) with absolutely no clue how English ceremonies go, I tried my best to construct a viable yet reasonably length wedding ceremony. I also haven't been to a wedding in years, so my general memory is foggy. So please remember that! The vows where they are asked if they take the other is also taken from the Church of England's website. Also, no wedding night details. I've alluded to it, but in the interest of focusing on this special day, and everyone's happiness before I go destroying and ending lives. (Yes, you read that correctly! I'm still dreading it!) I had to make some cuts before this chapter became extremely long.
Also, I've received some anonymous reviews that asked questions. I ask that you consider leaving a signed review, especially if you have a question, as I enjoy personally responding to your reviews. Since you took the time to leave the review, it is only courteous to respond. However to answer the primary question I saw. Clara and the Doctor are not going to meet until we get to the next story, 'Keeping My Promise' when she is sixteen years old. However, I swear! First/second chapter in, they are right in front of each other. Not giving away the circumstance yet!
And to the other main question. Time Jumps will go up to 'Angels take Manhattan'. I have a basic outline how 'Keeping My Promise' will tie in with the second half of season seven. They won't be direct re-writes, instead I'm going to put my own spin on it. Most of the plot will be relatively the same, but some will change. However I will come out and say that there may be a certain episode from season six that is being reserved for Keeping My Promise, instead of being referred to in Time Jumps. And that I am 99% certain that 'Name of the Doctor' will not be involved, as it was meant to explain Clara Oswald. And since the Clara in this story hasn't been scattered through time and space, it'd be hard to find relevance. However, I may pick a few things from it for an inter-story plot.
So I hope I answered your questions! If I confused you in any way, or if I missed your question, please feel free to privately message me. I still don't own Doctor Who. So with that said, away we go!
"Clara, hold still!" Rose let out an exasperated sigh, as she rubbed her forehead. She felt bad for the seamstress that was trying patiently to mark where she needed to hem the little gown. "Oh, I really am sorry for all this." The seamstress gave Rose a smile, as she assured her that it was alright.
Clara whinged as she bounced from foot to foot. Occasionally a leg would raise, as she would start to scratch frantically, hopping to keep herself upright. "It itches, Mum! Itchy, itchy, itchy! I don't like it!"
"You're going to have a slip on under it and tights, so you won't feel it. Now hold still for the nice lady, or Hermione isn't coming over tonight!"
Clara's foot dropped down with an irritated stomp. Muttering about how Gran doesn't have to wear itchy things under her dress. Clara didn't normally like to wear dresses, as it interfered with having proper fun. Bad enough she had to wear one for school.
But this dress, she liked. It made her feel like a princess! It was a dark blue, matching the ribbons in her Mum's dress. Her hands ran over the soft fabric, giggling as the nice lady with the pins would let the fabric flounce to the floor.
As the seamstress announced she was finished. Clara let out a sigh of relief, asking if she could take the itchy thing off now. As Rose replied that she could, Clara hurriedly shimmied out of the thing.
Later, after Rose finished making the final payments on all the gowns, they herded out of the shop. "Not that far ahead, Clara!" Rose called out as Clara skipped ahead of them. Dodging the groups of Saturday afternoon shoppers, eager to meet the others for lunch.
"Rose, sweetheart. Are you sure everything is alright? You seem on edge." Jackie reached an arm around, gently rubbing Rose's shoulder as they walked.
"Everything is just piling on top of each other, Mum! It's like, this is the last month before the wedding, plus all of the Doctor's focus is on this Silence group. All the stress is coming at once," Rose confided as they walked down the street. Her eyes forward as she kept Clara in her sights. "Sometimes, I really wish we just went to the Registrar's office."
"Rose Marion Tyler, you would have regretted depriving yourselves of a proper wedding. Just because you may have to run in the future. Plus, your Father and I wanted to give you this. He wanted to walk you down the aisle." Jackie halted her steps. Her hands on her hips, as she stared incredulously at Rose. As Rose kept looking forward, Jackie continued, "You both deserve to have a proper wedding. All you went through to even be together like this. All the time invested in getting to this point. Wedding planning is stressful, Rose. Then add the fact that we are putting this together in a few short months? Of course it's going to be stressful!"
Rose nodded as she recognized the truth in Jackie's words. Her eyes darting around as she heard Jackie's voice sharply raise. "Clara Donna! You get your hands out of that! You don't know where it's been!"
Clara jumped back in surprise, as Rose and Jackie caught up to her. She felt Rose take her hand in hers as she said, "Sorry, Gran."
"I know what you are saying, Mum. And we appreciate it, we really do." Rose smiled as they continued towards the cafe. Where they were due to meet James and Pete.
Jackie merely smiled, patting Rose's shoulder. They heard Clara call out in greeting as they approached the cafe. Jackie sighed happily, as she watched her daughter kiss the Doctor. Before he grinned and swept Clara up into his arms, hugging her in greeting. Everything she could ever wish for her daughter was coming true. Rose was living a life with the man she loved, the man she went through hell and back to get to. They were raising their daughter, and Jackie was sure that after all this unhappy business was over. There would be more children to come. More joy for Rose and her Doctor. And heavens knows that man deserved all of it, based on what Rose had told her.
Jackie knew what the proper Doctor had sacrificed on that beach. And sometimes, Jackie wished that he could have one opportunity to see what grew out of that sacrifice. And that she had one opportunity to properly thank him for it. Because, Rose didn't have to give up anything in the end. She got her Doctor and her family, and the past few years were the happiest Jackie had seen Rose.
"So tell me, Clara. Were you a good girl for your Mum and Gran?" Pete had stepped forward, giving Clara a kiss on her forehead.
"For the most part, Dad." Rose placed her bag down on the chair as they all settled in.
"But that thing was so itchy!" Clara defended her actions.
James grinned as he laughed lightly, planting a kiss on Clara's cheek. "That's my girl! Rebel against itchy things!"
Clara's face lit up as she raised her arms, cheering along with James. "Yeah! No itchy things!"
Rose and Jackie sighed as James continued to encourage her, knowing it was now going to be harder to get her to wear it later. Jackie dropped her own bag next to her chair as she stared at James. "Will you quit encouraging her! It's going to be hard enough to get her to wear it for the ceremony."
James rolled his eyes slightly, as he winked at Clara. "I'm sure Clara will behave, yeah?"
As the waiter brought them water and menus, James slung an arm onto the back of Clara's chair. "So, you like your dress then, Clara? Minus the itchy thing?"
Clara nodded enthusiastically as she settled herself down. James grinned mischievously as he mentioned he was happy that she liked it. Nonchalantly, he browsed over his menu as he said, "So, Clara. Does it look anything like your Mum's dress?"
Jackie frowned as she reached around Rose, giving James a whap on the back of the head with her menu. "I told you, cut that out! You aren't supposed to know what Rose's dress looks like before the ceremony! So stop trying to weasel the information out of my grand-daughter!"
"Oi! That's bollocks, Jackie! I'm not supposed to see Rose in her dress. Big difference!" James grumbled as he rubbed the back of his head.
Rose smirked as she leaned over, kissing his cheek. "Well, in fairness, love. You won't let me see the suit you're wearing. So we're even."
"Mum! Mum! Wake up!" Rose's eyes shot open as she was jolted from her dream. She could feel bouncing coming from James's side of the bed. Turning her head, Rose smiled as she noticed who it was.
"Good Morning, Clara! You can stop bouncing now, love. I'm awake!" Rose laughed as she pulled Clara in for a hug. She heard Clara giggle as tiny arms wrapped around her waist.
"Clara Donna McCrimmon, I am in no mood to play hide and go seek, young lady! Where are you?"
"We're in here, Mum!" Rose called out as she moved to scoot out of bed. She had to smile as she gave Clara another hug. She saw Clara's eyes light up, when Jackie called her by, what everyone referred to as her proper name. It hadn't taken Pete long to correct Clara's birth certificate, along with her other documents of identity. Rose recalled the sheer amount of joy on everyone's part, when they showed Clara the new documents. She had asked James if she really had his last name now. To which he had replied that it was only right, as he was her father. She should have his name.
Rose giggled to herself, as she looked at the ring on her finger. In a few hours, Rose would have his name as well. Officially, she was changing her last name. But around Torchwood, she would still be Tyler. Rose had justified it by saying so much would have to be changed, in terms of her office. Plus, she knew people would still address her as 'Tyler', so why complicate things? People would easily be able to see she was married, if not by the wedding ring. But also the fact that over the last few months, Rose and James could be seen in each others work areas. If not discussing how their days were going, they were usually going over wedding plans.
"Why are you two still mucking about?" Jackie huffed as she strode into the bedroom. Jackie was wearing a dressing gown, hair in curlers as she pointed towards Rose. "You, should be in the shower already! We have three and a half hours until we have to start packing into the car. Because you know that if you aren't starting down that aisle at noon sharp, himself will start looking for you."
Clara giggled at the mental image, as Jackie promptly turned her gaze onto her. "And you, young lady! Start getting dressed! I want to see tights, vest and slip on in ten minutes. I still have to do your hair AND help get your mother ready. So shift!"
Clara's giggles died in her throat, as she knew when Gran had that ultra serious look on her face. You listened immediately, because you didn't want to see what happens when she had to repeat herself. She gave Rose one more hug, before scooting off the bed as the doorbell buzzed.
"I'll get it!" Clara called as she diverted down the stairs.
"Clara!" Jackie called out as Rose waved for Jackie to go after her. "I can get into the shower, mum, just go get Clara situated. By the time you get her dressed, I'll be finished and waiting, yeah?"
Jackie nodded as she chased after the overly excited six year old. Deep down, Jackie couldn't be extremely cross with Clara today. She was just as excited and happy for this day as Clara was. Jackie knew that the Doctor had spoiled Rose for any other man. Just like her first Pete did, despite the problems they had around the time he died. She knew that if Rose never got her Doctor back, either the daft alien in the other universe, or this version that was left with them. Rose would have never considered anyone else.
"Gran! Gran! Mrs. Granger is here!" Clara came skidding into the living room, as Jackie stepped off the bottom stair.
"I figured I would come by and offer some help, Jackie. Molly wanted to come as well, but trying to get seven children up and ready is a feat in itself." Jean Granger smiled as she stepped into the living room, having shut the door behind her. While she wasn't as close to Rose and James, as the Weasley family were. Jean and Rose worked together many times, as Jean was the head liaison between Torchwood and the President's office. A working relationship, that eventually led to their daughters becoming best friends. With Ginny, of course, making it a trio of tight knit friends. Of course, Rose and herself had established a sort of friendship. Their occupations never let them have much time to become close friends, however they could easily refer to each other in friendship.
Jackie's face slipped into one of pure relief as she smiled. "Oh you are a lifesaver, Jean! Please come in. Would you care for some tea? Have you eaten anything this morning?" Jackie motioned where Jean could lay her coat on the sofa. The entire place was a mess. Last night, Rose and Jackie had attempted to tidy up. They did manage to stack the wedding gifts that had arrived over the week against the one wall, to be opened when they returned. They had agreed that they didn't really need many things, as they had been sharing a home for many years. So many of the gifts were going to be donated to charity.
"Just some tea would be lovely, Jackie. I ate breakfast with Mr. Granger and Hermione before I left. What do you need me to do?" Jean smiled as folded her coat on the sofa.
"Right now, Clara needs to get dressed so I can get her hair done. Then, if you could help me with Rose?"
Jean nodded as she smiled. "I assume the other bridesmaids will be along shortly? The more hands, the merrier?"
Jackie shook her head. "Rose didn't pick bridesmaids. Her and James wanted to keep things simple, so it's just myself as Matron of Honor. And James's mate Jake standing as Best Man."
Jean gave a small nod in understanding, as she accepted the mug of tea from Jackie. "I'm a fair hand at makeup, if you need help with that. You could do hair and I'll do makeup?"
Jackie gave a cry of relief at the further division of labor. "Oh, you don't know how happy I am that you came by, Jean! Between you and I, we might just pull this off!"
James stood in the en-suite of the guest room of the Tyler house. His head bopping side to side as he brushed his teeth. He couldn't quit singing the tune 'Somebody's getting married' from that one Muppet Movie. And given that he loved the Muppet Movies, plus the song was rather relevant today. James couldn't be bothered to try and stop.
"Cause somebody's getting married today!" James belted out as he repacked up his razor and toothbrush. Exiting back into the guest room, he put the toiletries bag back into his suitcase. Taking a deep breath, he opened the wardrobe, revealing the garment bag he had stashed a week ago. Wanting to surprise everyone with his choice of attire.
Unzipping the bag, James tugged it off the hanging garment. There hung the suit he hadn't even touched since they got home to London all those years ago. He considered this old blue suit as his good luck charm. Got him a life with Rose and Clara, didn't it?
James knew he could have worn any suit, and Rose would have loved him in it. This suit was special to them both, and it was only fitting that it was the suit he would wear to marry his pink and yellow Rose.
"Still fits good," James murmured as he finally finished dressing. He left the bottom buttons undone, like always; as he sniffed while inspecting himself.
James stared at the image in the mirror staring back at him. And for a moment, he saw himself back in the TARDIS wardrobe room. Newly created in a stolen suit, and deep down he was scared as hell. Well, maybe it wasn't stolen, so to speak. As it was his, just as much as it belonged to the other him. James then picked up his mobile, flipping through the contacts until he found the one he wanted.
Pressing SEND he sat on the edge of the bed. His eyes flickering around in nervousness.
Smiling as the other end picked up, he heard the voice that still made his stomach flutter. "Hello?"
"Good morning, Rose Tyler!" James grinned as he relaxed slightly, leaning back on his elbows. "So, what are you up to this fine morning?"
He could hear Rose laugh lightly on the other end. "Oh, not much. Just getting married to one of the most wonderful men in the universe."
"Oh, really? Remind me to send a congratulations card!"
"You think you're so funny. Go on then, what are you up to this morning?"
"Oh, not much." James crooked his lips into a humorous grin, as he looked to the ceiling. "Getting ready to embark on the biggest adventure of my life, along with a certain blonde haired love of my life."
"I love you." James could hear the emotion in Rose's voice, as it matched the emotion in his. "Quite right, too."
He heard Rose laugh again. "I love you too, Rose. I want you to know tha-"
James was cut off, by what sounded like a harried Jackie Tyler in the background. "Rose Tyler, get off that phone so I can do your hair! Who is that anyways?"
He heard Rose say who it was, before returning to the line saying she needed to get her hair finished. James agreed, teasing her that she didn't want to be late, as Rose mentioned Clara wanted to say hello. James heard the rustle of a phone being passed between hands, before a little voice came on the line.
"Hi, Daddy! You didn't come home last night! Where are you?"
"Hey there, sweetheart! I'm at your Grandad's house. The Bride and Groom don't see each other before the ceremony, so I spent the night here. But I'll see you in a few hours." James smiled, wiping away a few tears that threatened to fall down his cheek. The amount of pure love in his chest was on the verge of swelling out.
"Oh… So, you'll just see my dress later. Right? Mrs. Granger braided my hair, and put a few ribbons in my hair as well. It looks so pretty, Daddy! And, and the ribbons match my dress too!"
James smiled as he listened to Clara rattle on in her normal bubbly manner. It sometimes killed him to think that his counter-part is missing all this. That he will never get the joy of knowing Clara as his daughter. "Well, I can't wait to see it, love."
"I have to go, Daddy. Gran wants me to drink my milk before I put my dress on…and that itchy thing. I love you, Daddy."
"I love you too, my impossible girl. And hey, you only have to wear the itchy thing for a while. So, remember to listen to your Gran and Mum. And I can't wait to see you both real soon." James swallowed the lump in his throat, as Clara ended the call.
James then allowed himself to smile broadly as he left the room, going downstairs. All the way towards the kitchen, James couldn't help to thank his good fortune. When he initially got left on that beach with Rose, he thought he was lucky enough to simply have a life with Rose Tyler. In the way that he secretly always desired. But then, when he found out about Clara, he honestly believed this one life couldn't get any better.
"Do us all a favor. Promise you're going to leave the singing to Rose in the future, mate. Because you are atrocious at it!" Jake smirked from his position against the kitchen counter. "Pete and I could bloody well hear you down here, and I think a few cats outside started joining in."
"Shut up, ya knob," James teased in response, as he plucked up a bagel from the tray on the counter. He paused as he put the bagel in the toaster, looking around the kitchen with a raised eyebrow. "Wha? I missed a spot shaving or something? Why are you staring at me, Pete?"
Pete motioned to the suit. "Is that what I think it is, Doctor?"
James looked down, before raising his head with a slight grin. "You would be correctamundo… Okay, that is really the last time I'm ever saying that word."
"That's not a new suit, mate? I mean it looks slightly worn, but I thought you weren't buying a new one." Jake raised his mug to his lips, while plucking another pasty off the tray.
James gave a shrug as he tried to retrieve the bagel out of the toaster. Wincing as he shook his finger, after touching the hot metal. "Because it's not new, so to speak. After I was created, I threw on the first suit I could find. Since you know, we were in the middle of a crisis, and I couldn't save the day stark naked. And since the brown one was currently in use, I nicked the blue one. This is the suit I was wearing when the other me dropped us back here."
Jake gave a low whistle after draining his tea. James sat down at the table, biting into his breakfast as Pete announced that he would be right back. There was silence in the room for a moment, before James hummed in quiet laughter.
"What's so funny, Doctor?"
"I just imagined what Donna, Martha, Jack and Sarah Jane would say if they were here." James's eyes briefly flashed with sadness, before mirth returned. "Weeell, I'm sure we all know what Jack would be saying…Actually no, implying is more like it. He could honestly make you sound like a saint sometimes, Jake."
Jake smirked. He never met the people James was referring to, but he's heard stories. Rose would tell him about Jack and the time she met Sarah Jane. But he hadn't ever heard of Donna or Martha, before Rose returned to this universe with James. However he had instantly formed favorable opinions on them, based on what he was told. Especially hearing what they meant to the Doctor, and by extension, what they meant to James.
"They're here in spirit, mate. Just keep thinking that, and know they would have been proud of you both." Jake patted James on the shoulder as he sat down next to the man. "Quit staring at your bagel, and eat the bloomin' thing! Because I don't relish the idea of catching your arse, if you keel over at the church."
James let out a laugh as he crunched into the bagel again. He waggled his eyebrows as he chewed and swallowed. They looked up as Pete reentered the kitchen, his hand holding a small box. A sentimental and proud look in his eyes.
Pete placed the box onto the kitchen table as he sat. He looked down at his interlaced fingers as he spoke in gentle tone, "I uh, I noticed you didn't have a tie pin earlier."
James raised an eyebrow, as he wiped his fingers. He didn't get why Pete was mentioning it, as he never bothered to wear one before. He noticed he was seeing a new side to Pete Tyler. While he's seen him at his hardest, and while he's been at complete ease. He had never really seen the sentimental side to Pete Tyler.
Pete cleared his throat as he pointed a finger towards the box. "It's been in my family for generations. I wore it when I married Jacks. Rose's mum…Not my first Jackie." Pete shook his head lightly. "That woman insisted that I wore a bow tie."
Both Jake and James frowned at the mention of the late Jackie Tyler. Both having rather negative experiences with her, almost forgetting she existed. Given the second Jackie Tyler was more humane and gentle.
"The point I'm going for, Doctor. Is that it's tradition in our family for the father to loan it to his son on his wedding day. Now, given that Jacks and I don't have a son. I'm offering it to you, because you are like a son to me, rather than just a mere son-in-law. You've done so much for Rose, ever since you met her. And know that I wouldn't just let anyone have my daughter and grand-daughter." There were tears glistening in Pete's eyes, and in James's eyes also as he leaned forward. His fingers opening the box in an almost reverent manner.
James swallowed the lump in his throat as he looked at the polished antique sitting in the box. "I…I don't know what to say."
"Well, I was kind of hoping you would wear it. Let the family tradition continue."
James managed to nod, as his voice shuddered with emotion, "It's my honor, Pete."
Rose took a deep, calming breath as Pete helped her out of the hired car. They were heading into the side room of the small church, Pete squeezing her hand as they entered. "If it makes you feel any better, Rose. James is just as nervous as you are. Jake had to make him sit down, before he wore a hole in the rug with his pacing."
Nodding as she lowered herself into one of the chairs, Rose swallowed. There was a knock on the door, to which Jake peeked his head in.
Jake whistled as he caught sight of Rose. "You look gorgeous Rose! I might have to retrieve James's jaw from the floor when he gets a look at you. And look at you, Clara! Almost didn't recognize you all gussied up like that." Jake winked as he teased Clara. Rose had to laugh when Clara crossed her arms and stuck out her tongue.
"Not to break up family time in here, Pete. But we need to get to greeting guests at the doors. James and I have been greeting people, trying to keep him from trying to slink towards this door. But the vicar needs him for a moment, and he should really be returning to that room behind the altar." Jake pointed behind him as he spoke. Clara's face immediately lit up. "Daddy's out there? Can I go see him? Please?"
Without waiting for a response, Clara slipped out the door. They could hear Clara's giggles as she found James. A few minutes later, everyone could hear their voices draw closer as James walked Clara back to the room.
After a failed attempt to peek inside, James was led away by Jake as Pete said he would return after everyone was inside.
Rose sat back in the chair she was still occupying, her crossed leg wriggling nervously. The silver sixpence that Jackie and Jean insisted she slip into her shoe, was irritatingly sliding along the sole of her foot. She could never stand waiting like this. The anticipation was driving her antsy. Like the times she would have to sit, and wait for the cannon to start up. Because each day was growing darker and more dangerous, and Rose believed every second waiting was a waste.
She leaned over, drawing her gown over the white trainers she wore. Rose untied and retied her laces, not missing Jackie's sighs. "I can't believe you are wearing trainers under your dress, Rose."
"When have heels ever been my style, Mum? Especially once I met the Do-…James. All those times we had to make a run for it? Just seems right to wear them, being it was a staple of our lives."
Talking about trainers and old times made Rose sigh. Without thinking about it, Rose played with the chain around her neck. Sliding the old key along the chain, an old habit when Rose would get reminiscent. Clara had asked about it earlier, to which Rose had smiled. Saying it was the first thing her dad ever gave to her. In response, Clara had raised an eyebrow. Skeptically asking why he would give her a key. Closing her eyes to hide the sadness, Rose responded that it meant a lot to him. That because he gave her something that valuable, it meant that Rose was special to him.
Somewhat hearing Jackie's response, Rose stood and looked out the small window. She took a deep breath, as she watched Jake and Pete close the church doors after the last guest. Her eyes flicked to the small clock on the table.
Noon on the dot.
She heard her mobile buzz on the table next to the clock. Picking it up, she gave a small snigger as she read the text message. It was from James, and it was only three words. It was her second favorite three words to hear from him.
Allons-y, Rose Tyler!
Rose handed her mobile to Jackie after typing a short response. Her mobile slipped into one of the pockets for safe keeping, as Pete slipped back into the room. A gentle, excited look on his face.
"I believe there is a certain someone waiting for you, Rose." Pete winked as they all assembled themselves. Clara picked up her basket as she hugged Rose around the middle. Jackie gave a sniffle as she kissed Rose on the cheek. Handing Rose her bouquet, before picking up her own.
"You have his ring, right?"
Jackie smiled as she patted the jacket pocket of her mother's gown. "Right here, next to your mobile. Now stop worrying! Breath and concentrate on getting married."
With that, Jackie and Clara slipped out the door. Pete smiled as he held his elbow out. Rose grinned as her hand slipped through, resting on the crook of his arm. Giving her hand a gentle squeeze as they exited the room, Pete quietly murmured, "There was once a time where I believed I'd never get to do this. That I'd never have the chance to walk a daughter down the aisle. And, I know I'm not your biological father, Rose. But I wanted to say thank you for being my daughter, for allowing me to be a father to you. Because of you and the Doctor crashing into this world that first time, I have a wife that loves me, just as much as I love her. In addition to a well rounded daughter, who gave me the sweetest grand-daughter imaginable."
Pete paused as the words hitched in his throat. Words that were spoken shakily, when they did finally come. "Then to top it all off, that daughter brought home a version of the man she hopped all over creation to find. And now you two are going to make this little family grow, and I'm going to get to experience it all." Pete blinked back a few tears, swallowing to compose himself. "I love you, sweetheart. And I know that no matter what happens, the Doctor is going to protect you and Clara. And if you have to run away, he'll keep you both safe until you can come home to us."
Rose pulled her hand out of Pete's arm, throwing her arms around Pete's neck. She sniffled back a few tears, as she uttered against Pete's shoulder, "I love you too, Dad! And, if I had to have anyone as a father in this world, I'm glad it's you. You've made Mum so happy, and you made us all feel at home here. And, I know everything is going to be okay. It's been quiet the last few months, so maybe we can all go back to normal soon."
Pete gave Rose another hug before she pulled back, reaching for a tissue to blot her eyes. Pete could have responded that she shouldn't never say never, but then it would worry her. And there would be none of that talk today. He watched Rose fan her face as she composed herself. As the inner doors opened, and the strains of the organ began to drift in.
James exhaled as they took their places at the altar. He heard the organ begin to play, as the inner doors opened. Revealing those behind them. He felt a strong pat on his shoulder as Jake whispered, "Remember, mate. No fainting."
James snorted as his hand reached up, pulling at his collar nervously. Blimey, he's never been this nervous before. No wait, there was that one time. When he went to retrieve Koschei's ashes from Skaro, after his execution by the Daleks.
He grinned as he watched Clara do a combination walk/skip up the aisle. Pausing every few steps to sprinkle some petals, then scratch a leg. As she reached the end of the aisle, she smiled and waved to James and Jake. Much to the amusement of everyone, based on the amount of light chuckles and 'awws' that James heard.
James waved back, as Clara sat where she was instructed to during the rehearsal. His attention then drifted back to the aisle, as Jackie was beginning to saunter towards the altar. His hands overlapped and clenched nervously as Jackie winked at him, her face glowing with happiness.
As the doors opened again. James's breath stilled in his throat, as his eyes caught the most beautiful sight in the whole building.
Rose…his wonderful Rose, on Pete's arm. Her smile radiant as their eyes locked. The corners of his mouth crooked upwards in a grin, as everyone stood. Every ounce of nervousness gone, as Rose and Pete started their way forwards. It seemed as if time slowed, taking seemingly forever for her to reach him. For their hands to touch. He needed to hold her, to feel the warmth of her hand in his.
Rose gasped in surprise, as she caught sight of her Doctor. He was wearing the suit. The suit she grabbed, as she kissed him on that beach. What he wore when his very existence began, was what he picked to wear at the beginning of the next chapter of their lives. And it made Rose's heart flutter, just a tiny bit more than it already was.
Before Rose knew it, they had reached the altar. The Vicar stepped forward, clearing his throat as he smiled to everyone gathered. "I would like to welcome you all today, as we celebrate the joyous union of Doctor James Ian McCrimmon and Miss Rose Marion Tyler. Before we continue, I ask who brings this woman to marry this man?"
Pete managed to choke out that he does. And at the Vicar's instruction, he placed Rose's hand in James's waiting one, after kissing her cheek. Pete then stepped back and sat down in the pew next to Clara. His fingers wiping furiously at his eyes, tears beginning to spill over as Clara leaned her head against his shoulder. Pete wrapped his arm around her tiny shoulders, kissing the top of her head.
Rose and James's fingers interlaced as they looked to the Vicar. The man's voice echoed off the walls as he continued the service. "As you all know, Banns have been read the past three Sundays. However, if anyone present holds valid reason why these two should not be wed. I charge you to now make it known, else forever hold your objections. As on the glorious day of Resurrection and Reckoning, the truths and deceits of all hearts will be revealed."
The church was deathly silent for a moment, before the Vicar smiled at the gathering before him. "Many years ago, I was fortunate to have baptized their daughter, Clara Donna McCrimmon. Which was at a time, when Rose and James were separated from each other against their will. However thankfully, our merciful God has seen fit to have that situation remedied." There was light chuckling from everyone, as James winked at Rose.
The Vicar raised a hand, gently asking for silence. "And such, I have again been blessed to know such a wonderful couple in Rose and James. Their dedication to each other, in addition to the never ending care and devotion to their daughter; makes me content to conduct and bless their union. In an age where, the sanctity of Marriage is just a word, instead of something that demands protection and reverence." Looking directly at Rose and James, he asked in an gentle yet authoritative voice, "Do you both come before me and this congregation, freely and without reservation?"
"We do," Rose and James answered in unison.
"Do you both swear before God and this congregation, that there is no existing impediments to prevent this marriage from occurring?"
"We so swear," Rose and James again answered in unison. Rose and James then faced each other at the direction of the Vicar. Their eyes lovingly locked in each others gaze, as the Vicar began speaking.
"James Ian McCrimmon, will you take Rose Marion Tyler to be your wife? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and protect her. And forsaking all others, be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?"
James grinned cheekily as he clicked his tongue. "Given how long I've waited for this? Oh, you bet I will."
Everyone chuckled as the Vicar reminded him that a simple 'I will' would have sufficed. With a smile, he turned to Rose.
"Rose Marion Tyler, will you take James Ian McCrimmon to be your husband? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and protect him. And forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?
Rose smiled, her tongue peeking out of her cheek. "Already promised him my forever, so of course I will."
The Vicar shook his head in good spirits, as he playfully asked if they ever did anything simply. He then raised his head, addressing the congregation as they all laughed lightly. Knowing for a fact, that was never the case. "Will you, the families and friends of James and Rose, support and uphold them in their marriage now and in the years to come?"
Everyone in the small church answered in the affirmative. Holding his thumb to his place, the Vicar said, "I have been informed by the couple, that they wish to make additional promises and vows to one another. So James, I ask you now to speak your promise to Rose."
James puffed his cheeks before exhaling a nervous breath. "Rose, we're standing here today, because of you. After we were parted, you never gave up on us; and for that, I'm grateful. Because if this doesn't show that we can conquer anything, then I don't know what will. You've made me a better man, and I'm honored that you've chosen to spend your life with me. As well as letting me spend the rest of my life with you."
James swallowed, as his thumb rubbed the back of her hand. He had thought long and hard about that first part. He wanted to tell her, in front of everyone just how much she meant to him. James sniffed as he continued speaking. "I promise to be honest with you, remembering that we're equals in whatever comes our way. I promise to hold faith in your beliefs and actions, as you hold faith in mine. That any decision we come to, will be one of mutual acceptance of being the best choice. I will always treasure you and the children you give me, for our family is my strength. I will try to focus on what I have, as opposed to what I've missed. Or what could have been. I promise to cherish the memories of our lives, so that they will be the light in any dark times."
Rose sniffled slightly as she squeezed James's hand. Hearing the Vicar instruct her to make her promise, Rose licked her lips as she formulated a new opening for her vows, in response to what James began with.
"James, while my actions led to you returning home to us. Ultimately, we are standing here today because you jumped into my life; grabbing my hand while telling me to run. You showed me there was more to my life, and how just living day to day wasn't really living. That there was more out there than a job and chips."
Rose laughed quietly to herself as she continued, "I promise to always remember that everything you do, it's out of your love and devotion for us. I promise to be patient and understanding, when that wonderful brain of yours goes into over drive. I will remember we are equals, and to hold faith in your actions and beliefs, as you hold faith in mine. We are Shiver and Shake, Hope and Glory. I promise to face whatever comes at us head on, as your companion in love and life. I will cherish the family we continue to create, and to not bring a single pear into our house anymore."
There was more laughter, as everyone present knew the Doctor's aversion to the fruit. Rose took a breath as she finished speaking, "Further more, I will always cherish our past, present and future. I will treasure our memories, so that they will always be the hope that dispels the evil around us."
The Vicar smiled at them as he turned the page in his book. "If you will please present the rings to be exchanged."
Jake and Jackie stepped forward, carefully placing the golden objects onto the open book. Once returning to her place, Jackie carefully took Rose's bouquet. Everyone faced the Vicar as he began speaking a blessing over the rings. "Heavenly Father, by your blessing let these rings be to James and Rose a symbol of unending love and faithfulness, to remind them of the vow and covenant which they have made this day through Jesus Christ our Lord." He then picked up the smaller, thinner ring.
"James, take this ring and place it on Rose's left ring finger. Then repeat after me."
James carefully took the plain golden ring, his shaking fingers managing to slide the ring across her knuckles. He inhaled as to steady his voice as he repeated the Vicar's words. "Rose Marion Tyler, I place this ring on your finger as a token of my love, faith and fidelity. May this be a constant reminder of the vows and promises made between us, in the presence of those before us."
James squeezed Rose's hand gently as the Vicar handed her the ring meant for James.
"Rose, take this ring and place it on James's left ring finger. Then repeat after me."
Rose smiled, her tongue peeking out between her teeth. Making James smile in return, as he rubbed the tears out of his eyes. Rose's hand trembled slightly with emotion, as she guided the ring up James's finger. She then began to repeat the Vicar's words, a sly emphasis on 'Doctor'. An action Rose had sworn, made his eyes light up even more. "Doctor James Ian McCrimmon, I place this ring on your finger as a token of my love, faith and fidelity. May this be a constant reminder of the vows and promises made between us, in the presence of those before us."
"I love you," James mouthed to Rose. Rose in turn, grinned and mouthed that she loved him too.
"In the presence of God, and before this congregation, James and Rose have given their consent and made their marriage vows to each other. They have declared their marriage by the joining of hands and by the giving and receiving of rings. I therefore proclaim that they are husband and wife. Those whom God has joined together let no one put asunder." The Vicar closed his book, smiling upon the couple before him. His hand raised, as he conducted his final blessing, as Rose and James bowed their heads.
"Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we lift up our hearts to you through Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him you have made a covenant of grace with your people by the outpouring of your Holy Spirit. We praise you for the gift of marriage in which the love of husband and wife reveals your purposes of love for the world."
"We thank you today for James and Rose. For leading them to each other in friendship and love, commitment and trust, and for bringing them here for the blessing of their marriage. Living God, by the presence of your Holy Spirit, may they know the risen Christ to be with them now, as they celebrate this covenant together. May their lives be a witness to your saving love in this troubled world. As you pour out your love, may they grow together in your sight, and each be to the other a companion in joy, a comfort in sorrow and a strength in need."
"As you blessed the earthly home at Nazareth with the presence of your Son, may their home be a place of security and peace. May you continue to bless this couple with the gift and care of children, that they may grow up to know and love you in your Son. And bring us all at the last to that great marriage banquet of your Son in our home in heaven. Where, with all your saints and angels, in the glory of your presence. We will for ever praise you; through Jesus Christ our Lord." The Vicar then finished with a sign of the cross, as everyone present murmured an 'Amen'.
"James, you may now kis—" The Vicar started, but cut himself off as James wrapped his hands around Rose's waist. Clearly not needing to be told what he had to do next. Everyone laughed at James's eagerness, including the Vicar.
Rose wrapped her arms around her Doctor's neck as their lips mashed together. Their kiss turned to a hug as the Vicar began to speak again.
"I am now pleased to finally present to you, Doctor and Rose McCrimmon. Go forth in peace and love."
Amongst the clapping and cheering, James managed to steal another kiss. Taking her hand, James smirked as he said, "Run!" Before pulling her down the aisle, both laughing in glee as Jackie and Jake made their way behind them.
James and Rose piled into the car that Rose had arrived in. "Why aren't I riding with mum and dad?" They heard Clara ask, as Jake held back a potentially lewd comment.
"You don't want to ride with your uncle Jake?" Jake grinned, as he clamped a hand over his heart in mock hurt. "Besides, they're probably going to be kissing a lot."
Clara scrunched her face as she pointed to her parents, "You shouldn't kiss a lot. Luckily Daddy doesn't have cooties!"
James laughed as he stuck his head out the window, as Clara came up to the car. "Cheeky! Behave young lady, and we'll see you there."
Clara waved as the car pulled away from the curb. Taking Jake's hand, they all headed James's car. Which had been used to transport Pete, James and Jake to the church. And would later be Rose and James's getaway car, with the hired car taking the rest back to the Tyler house after the reception.
Clara paused as she reached the car. Slipping her hand out of Jake's hand, Clara shimmied her hips. Tongue peeking out of the corner of her mouth, as her hands reached under the hem of her gown. Tugging off the tulle petticoat, before sighing with relief. However much to the chagrin of Jackie.
"Clara Donna! You're supposed to do that in private!" Jackie admonished her grand-daughter, not noticing Jake and Pete trying desperately to hold in their laughter. Pete bent down, picking up the discarded item and tucked it in the back of the car. "Come on, Jacks. Be thankful she wore it as long as she did."
Jackie shrugged as Pete did have a valid point. As they all settled into the car, she had to consider that, if anyone ever would doubt who Clara belonged to, they would only have to point to Rose and the Doctor. As Clara's cheeky behavior and strong morals were influenced by only two people.
Rose sighed as she laid her head against James's shoulder. His arms wrapped around her as they watched the streets zoom by. "Today was just perfect," Rose uttered contentedly.
James hummed in agreement as his finger tipped Rose's face up. Before dropping his head to meet hers, he sorely missed having Rose in his arms. After they parted for air, James cupped Rose's cheek in his hand. "There is one more thing I need to do, Rose. Before this all feels complete for me."
Rose smiled as her hand raised to cover his. "Go on then, what is it?"
"You share my human name, the name everyone knows me by. But I have another name as well, Rose. It's an ancient Gallifreyan rite, and I want to share it with you."
Rose blinked as she continued to look in his eyes. Her hand slid off his, moving to rest on his cheek. Her heart swelled as she regarded him. "I'd be honored, Doctor… Wait, your name isn't actually 'Doctor', is it?"
James laughed as he kissed her. "No, that was just a moniker I developed centuries ago, since my people didn't even tell each other their name. The only person who knew it, was the person's mate. I'm going to whisper it in your ear, but you won't understand the language. But you'll know it's there, even if you won't be able to recall it or speak it."
Rose smiled as James leaned forward, his breath warming her earlobe as he whispered intimately into her ear. He was correct in that she couldn't decipher what was said, but she didn't really care. The mere sounds were music to her ears. Rose blinked back a few tears as she touched her forehead to his temple. Considering that he just shared the last thing he could connect to his home planet. He wasn't required to do this, but he wanted to out of the love they shared.
Rose curled back into James's embrace, as they traveled the rest of the way to the reception. Ever since they left the church, James had been trying to shake a feeling that something was wrong. He couldn't place it exactly, and his eyes had flitted around. Checking for the presence of those creatures, or a person with an eye patch. Thankfully, neither had appeared…today. He caught an agent slinking around Mayglen park three days ago, chasing it until it disappeared down an alley.
As the car pulled up to the location that was rented for their small reception. James resolved to not think about the Silence today. They didn't deserve a moment of consideration. Today was about celebration and love.
Ellen Batton shivered as she was led down the dark corridor. Arms crossed against her chest, looking around warily. Out of her uncovered eye, she saw the multitude creatures watching her intently as she passed.
She let out a squeak as her escort roughly grabbed her elbow, shoving her through a doorway. The man merely pointed to a chair, his voice gravelly commanding her, "Sit and do not speak unless bade to."
Ellen gathered her wits, sitting up straight. She refused to be some simpering thing to be disrespected. Before her was an impressive desk, and behind that desk sat a well dressed man. Ellen didn't know who he was, the silver eye patch on his eye telling her where she was.
The man drummed his fingers against the polished wood. He regarded the woman coolly before speaking, "You've been given two weeks to complete your task, Ms. Batton. Time to share your results." He leaned forward, the desk lamp casting an devilish glow on the right side of his face. "And for your sake, they better be good results."
"The plans have been finalized, Sir. As previously suspected, the girl's parents and the Assistant Director have devised a plan to go into hiding. Should an attack be instigated against the child. However, I have noted that her father is rather protective of her, and might be willing to do harm to any assailant."
The man waved a dismissive hand as his lips tightened. "He can be easily taken care of. However we know all this already. If I am not mistaken," the man started, as he motioned towards the darkness. Ellen's head snapped to each side, as she watched two creatures slink from the darkness. "Your task was to retrieve details of this plan. You were chosen because of your closeness to the Assistant Director. So I ask you again, Ellen Batton. Have you completed your task?"
Ellen whimpered as her hand trembled while opening her bag. She despised herself for this, for betraying the sweet little girl named Clara. She was told that she would be key in bringing down a great enemy. Despite her initial resistance, as she never wanted to get involved in someone's personal disputes. The knowledge that they held her grandmother made her cooperate fully.
She only prayed that Clara's family would be a step ahead and keep her safe. And that they would forgive her in some way for her actions.
With a shaking hand, Ellen pulled out the stolen folder. She had made copies, and placed the copies in Pete's drawer earlier that day. Knowing that he would be out of the office, on account of Rose and James getting married. After laying the folder onto the desk, Ellen's hand drew back quickly.
The man reached forward, greedily snatching up the folder. A satisfied smile rested on the man's face, as he flipped through the documents. A cold and evil glint rested in his eye, as he took in the information. "I must say, you completed the task well. I think you may have earned a reward."
Ellen relaxed slightly, as his words hung in the air. "The only reward I desire is my grandmother's immediate release…Unharmed," Ellen ground out lightly.
The man smirked as he closed the folder. Waving it towards her as he spoke, "Oh that's right! Your grandmother is currently our guest." Ellen's face tightened as she bit back a scathing retort. She really couldn't see how being held against your will, could be considered being a guest. But again, this was pure psychotic evil sitting across from her.
"Share this with the others, and check out this location in Seaham." The man handed off the folder, before dismissing him. He then turned his gaze back to Ellen, fingers pressed together. "Well, I believe we'll keep granny around for another week."
Ellen's eyes closed, her breath hitched as she spoke, "The terms were I would give you this information. And then you would let her go!"
The man leaned back, rocking in the chair. "Terms have changed my dear. My prerogative, of course. Unless…" He leaned forward quickly, in sudden interest. Pointing a finger in her direction, his lips curled into a cruel smile. "There is something else. Isn't there?"
Ellen shook her head rapidly. No No No, she wouldn't tell him the back up plan she heard about. "No really, that is it. Relocation to Seaham, until the threat is gone."
The man tutted, making a motion as one of the creatures raised a hand. The lights flickered, as the creature zapped Ellen with a bolt of electricity.
Ellen screamed as the flash hit her square in the back. She wouldn't cry…She refused to give the sicko that satisfaction. "Now, let's try that again, Ms. Batton. Is there, or is there not a plan C?"
Ellen gritted her teeth as she stared coldly at the man. "There is no plan C," she lied again. Her hand gripping the armrests of her chair as her body was hit with another jolt.
"You insult my intelligence! I know the sort of man that Pete Tyler is! He's methodical and precise! For every plan, he has a back up. So tell me, what is the back up!" The man slammed his hand onto the desk, yelling into the air between them.
Ellen screamed again as a stronger bolt hit her. She choked on a sob as her consciousness couldn't handle it anymore. She wasn't an agent, armed with techniques to withstand round after round of strenuous torture. She was a civilian, who was lucky enough to be promoted to the Assistant Director's secretary. She was scared out of her mind, wishing she was never put into this situation. She knew the sort of man Pete Tyler was, and once he found out her involvement. No matter how reluctant, there would be hell to pay. And a man of his stature and position could bring a lot of hell. Combining that with the wrath of Doctor McCrimmon, a man who has been described as a potential storm of fire and rage and ice. Especially when it involved innocents or those he held close to him.
Well okay, maybe she really was not so lucky to be Mr. Tyler's secretary. She knew that the man had trusted her deeply, and it killed her to betray that trust. However, her grandmother was all she had in her life. So when she was approached with an ultimatum of assisting this group, in exchange for her grandmother's life. The choice was absolute.
"I swear, I don't know the exact details!" The words tumbled from her shaking lips. The man held up a hand, motioning for the creature to halt. "I knew you could be persuaded, Ms. Batton," the man said in a cruel manner. The sort where you think he will help you, only to betray you once he is finished with you. "This plan you speak of, what do you know?"
Ellen dropped her head to her chest, as her shoulders drooped. "Not much, only that it involves the canon. The one that his daughter used when the darkness came. I swear, that's all I know!"
The man raised his fingers to his lips, contemplating this new piece of information. He remembered hearing briefly about the piece of machinery. He considered how they couldn't be allowed to make that jump. Even though there were agents on the other side, they were going after a completely different child. Not knowing about this Tyler child, nor was there anyway to share the information.
"Could you get a hold of any plans?"
Ellen had raised her head by this time. She shook her head vehemently. "The Assistant Director keeps those on his person. He's only made one other person aware of the plans. But I have no idea who that person is. I only know of this plan, because I overheard him."
The man remained still as he thought. The room was silent, save the light sniffles coming from the woman across the desk. Pitiful thing, she was. "You will return to your post Monday morning, as if nothing has occurred here. Continue to listen for any clues, and we'll meet again in a few weeks." The man grinned again, a hand waving towards her.
"Take her out of my sight, and see she goes home with no stops elsewhere."
The dances were danced, including where Jackie made James dance the Mother/Groom dance with her. Since James had always seen her as family, and given that Jackie didn't have any sons of her own. This was her only chance to have this precious moment. The couple were toasted many times over, including obligatory embarrassing tales.
Pete quietly promised Rose that he would have a copy of each album from the entire day, created for their go-bags. Especially the adorable picture, where Clara and James had danced together. Clara standing on his feet, her hands around his waist as he swayed her around.
There had been the stealthy swiping of frosting from the bottom of the cake. James being the biggest culprit, showing Clara, Ginny and Hermione the best places to do so. So that it isn't noticed by the others. "From the back of the cake, girls… Always from the back of the cake!" James had proclaimed with a wink, promptly demonstrating. Rose had caught them out of the corner of her eye. They weren't harming anything, so why ruin their fun. She shook her head as she considered how big of a kid the Doctor could be sometimes.
She had then turned her full attention back to her conversation with Jake and his date. A rather amicable man called Richard. Who had nicely navigated questions from Rose on his background in Physics, as well as what he likes to do in his free time. Rose had taken an instant liking to him, seeing how well him and Jake got on. To which she was happy for Jake, as he never really gave himself time for a social life.
And now, it was time for James and Rose to head off on their brief honeymoon. James stood at the bottom of the staircase, having changed out of the blue suit and red trainers. He was still wearing one of his other suits and white trainers, however he eschewed the tie, leaving the top buttons of his oxford undone.
Jake walked in, handing the keys to James with a smirk. "Your getaway vehicle is waiting just outside, mate." James grinned as he took the keys, looking up the staircase for the tenth time in twenty minutes.
Pete herded everyone outside, shouting how Rose was on her way down. And that they would say their goodbyes outside. Jackie had by this time, come down stairs. She gently patted his cheek with affection, as she headed outside.
James then heard Rose's footsteps behind him. Turning to face her, he grinned as he held out his hand.
Rose took it as she bounced off the final step. The plain golden bands glinting, thanks to the overhead lamps. Their fingers interlaced as she stepped close to him, tilting her head up as she whispered, "Hello."
"Hello there," James replied happily as his thumb brushed the back of her hand.
They embraced, relieved that the entire day's craziness was at an end. Rose had to admit to herself that Jackie was right, she would have regretted missing out on all of this. "Are you sure we should be going an hour away? What if something happens?"
"Rose, Clara is going to be fine! She's six and a half, and she is staying with your parents. So she'll be as safe as she would be with us." James sighed as he pulled Rose closer. Giving her a reassuring kiss on the lips.
"But! What if the Silence come after her?" Rose interjected, her worst fears being voiced aloud. James raised an eyebrow. "Love, I doubt they would be foolish enough to go after her, while she is with the Assistant Director of Torchwood."
Rose sighed as she conceded defeat. She knew Clara would be alright deep down, it was just so hard to resist keeping her close for her safety.
James raised a hand as he waggled his eyebrows, slyly jingling the keys. "What do you say we make our escape?"
Rose's tongue peeked out of the corner of her mouth. "Now who's the anxious one?"
James's eyes darkened as his forehead leaned against hers. "Three days of absolute leisure with my pink and yellow wife? Sign me up…" He then smirked as his voice rumbled low against her ear. "In fact, I think it should be Doctor's orders that we run off now. Because, Mrs. Doctor… I'm itching to get you out of those clothes."
Rose winked at him. "Mrs. Doctor? That's a new one."
"Oh yes!" James's eyebrows waggled again as he took her hand again. Fingers interlacing as they headed towards the door. They grinned at each other, as they heard Jackie call out 'here they come'! Bouquet in hand, Rose and James flew out of the door. Birdseed and the remaining petals from Clara's basket, raining down on them from all angles.
Amongst the cheers from everyone, Rose turned her back and tossed the bouquet over her head. There was a happy shout coming from Molly as Bill's girlfriend Fleur caught the bouquet. Bill in turn groaned as his brothers teased him mercilessly. James then shouted, biting back a rather nasty curse as Jake pulled back his collar, dumping a handful of birdseed down the back of his shirt.
Rose clamped a hand to her mouth, trying not to laugh as Jake called out, "Don't worry, mate! I'm sure Rose will help you get all the birdseed out!"
"Jake!" James growled, trying to hold a serious tone to his voice. He thought it amusing, already planning to pull off the side of the road and empty out the birdseed as soon as they left. Jake continued to laugh before holding the back of his head. "Ow! Jackie, what was that for?"
"Will you quit dropping innuendos around my innocent and precious grand-daughter!" Jackie's hands were steadily on Clara's shoulders as she held onto her now empty basket. Clara looked up at the adults, her eyes wide with questions. "What's an innuendo? And how is Mum going to help Dad get the birdseed out of his shirt?"
"Never you mind, Clara. Now go hug your parents, so they can get going." Jackie kissed the top of her head, as Clara ran to Rose. Wrapping her arms around Rose's waist, she gave her a big hug. "I'll miss you Mum and Dad! Bring me back something, please?"
Rose and James kissed and hugged their daughter, before James opened Rose's car door. "You be good for your grandparents, Clara! Mum, ring us if there is any trouble!" Rose called as James edged her into the car. While he was eager to drive off, he also knew that this could go on forever if they didn't get out of here.
"Don't you worry, Rose! She'll be just fine." Jackie waved as Rose's car door was shut. As James strode around the back of his car, he tripped on something. Looking down, he groaned. "Really, Jake? Cans on the back of my car?"
Jake burst out laughing as he scooped up Clara. Giving her a high five as she giggled, the tip of her tongue poking out of the side of her mouth. Just like her mother. James shook his head, as he opened his car door. Shouting out as he motioned at them, "Partners in crime, the two of yah!" He then grumbled as his back hit the seat, the birdseed scratching against his back. Giving Rose another kiss, to the cheers of everyone present. James then shifted the gear and hit the gas. Taking off down the path, the cans clanking behind them.
Not even five minutes down the road, the Doctor pulled to the side of the road. "Yeah, this isn't going to happen."
Rose let an amused smirk hang on her lips as she climbed out of the car. Standing behind him, balling up the the part where most of the birdseed had gathered, as James carefully tugged his shirt from his trousers.
Letting the birdseed now freely fall from the shirt, James wiggled and shook his legs. "What are you doing, love?" Rose raised an eyebrow as she watched her husband hop on one foot while chanting, "Out, out, out!"
As little pieces of seed tumbled out of his trouser legs, James gave a sigh of relief. Before curling his lips into a smile as he laughed, Rose joining in. With the jovial grin still on his face, James rummaged in his pockets. Finding his screwdriver, he strode to the back of the car.
"Might as well settle yourself back in, Rose. Because once I detach these things, we'll be off," James called out as he crouched down. Concentrating on the tight knots, before they fell from wherever Jake managed to tie them to.
Opening his door, James reached behind the seat and plunked them onto the backseat floor. "Remind me to return those to the git when we get back."
Rose winked. "Or, you could just keep them for when he and Richard decide to get married. Turnabout being fair play and all."
James laughed as he leaned over, his lips finding hers in the darkness. "I think I've rubbed off on you way too much, love." Rose chuckled as she sat back as James started up the car again. "Hmm, don't recall you ever complaining."
"Never said I didn't like it."
An hour later, the car pulled into the lot. They had opted for a weekend involving romantic restaurants and entertainment diversions. They had initially considered a quiet weekend in a country cottage, star gazing being one of the activities. However seeing how this was one of the few child free weekends, where they could be expected to indulge in themselves. James and Rose later decided on this place. Relaxing, yet still full of fun.
Two things, Rose and James decided they were deserving of. Given all the work they were putting into figuring out the Silence and the cracks of light. On top of keeping an eye for Clara, always watching the shadows.
"The McCrimmons, checking in!" James smiled as they stepped up into the lobby of the hotel. He bounced on the balls of his feet, as the clerk searched the the computer for their reservation. Rose bit back a tiny yawn as they waiting.
"You're tired, aren't you, Rose?" James tried to tamp down any disappointment in his voice. His hand had brushed as low as decently possible, while they were standing in the lobby.
Rose shook her head, waving her hand dismissively. "I'll be alright, James. I'm slightly tired, but I think that's because I was dragged out of bed early, so I could look good on my wedding day." Rose had leaned in, a finger running along the lapel of his jacket.
"I will say that it was all worth it then, Rose. Because I couldn't keep my eyes off you from the moment you started down that aisle," James whispered into her hair, his hand suggestively brushing the rounded part of her bum. Before stroking upwards against her hip, causing Rose to let loose a quiet moan.
The clerk had then interrupted their light flirting, handing them their keys and paperwork to sign. They then hurried towards the lifts, rolling their luggage behind them.
Reaching their door, James opened it before plopping their things inside. "Nope, stay right there, Rose." James's eyes glinted darkly as his fingers picked up the small plastic door sign from the table. Stepping back into the hallway, he hung it on the handle.
Rose winked when she realized he just hung the 'Do Not Disturb' sign. She wrapped her arms around his neck, sighing in pleasure as they shared an intense kiss. James then swept Rose off her feet, carrying her into their room. His foot carefully toeing the door shut behind them.
Not that long after, Rose found herself floating amongst stars thanks to the Doctor.
