A/N: …. I feel guilty. Seriously. It has been wayyyy too long you guys. I have been sooooo busy with friends and school and work and blablabla. But I'm back!

DarkWriter00: Sometimes I look at a website with baby names. Myuna seems to suit Myuna perfectly haha. It means clear water. Hehe I thought Lanelle was a French name :0 O my god Marshmello XD I have seen that one somewhere. I recently caught myself using 'meanie poop'. Your comments influence me XD.

I like your Light a lot. A lot more than mine. My Light is actually how Light's true nature is in my eyes. Although he would have been a different person if he hadn't found the notebook. If someone would tell innocent Light that he will become a mass murderer he would probably faint lol.

As for Deparnieux. Actually, chapter 10 is a fanfiction in a fanfiction. Deparnieux is a character by John Flanagan.

Guest: Thank you :D

scarlett: YEEY een andere Nederlander XD Heehee my grammar isn't always correct, I know. I'm still learning J I absolutely agree on you're and your. That can be annoying sometimes. Thank you! I try very hard not to forget anything I have mentioned in previous chapters because, when I read a story, I hate it to be left with unanswered questions.

Ourfavoritefangirl: LOL I do that too sometimes. And thank you!

joselive: Hehe I have been busy, sorry. Here you go! And thank you very much!

Naruto4Evar: It's too late, they already did it O_o

Chapter 10: Heart attack

They were chasing a former follower of Morgarath, the one that had almost taken down Araluen. Myuna had never met him. His servant had left a nasty chain of crimes. The tracks were getting clearer and clearer, which meant that the criminal had been there not too long ago. However, they had been on the road for a long time and their horses were tired.

'We should rest now,' Gilan said. Myuna huffed.

'No way, we almost have him!' Gilan frowned.

'And then what? We won't beat him if we're tired like this. Not to mention that you, with your lack of experience, must be as stiff as a broom right now.' Myuna glared at him.

'I'm not stiff! And I have plenty of experience buddy!' Gilan stopped Blaze, his horce.

'Prove it by stepping off your horse without falling on your ass.' Myuna hesitantly did what she was asked for and fell with a loud thud. Gilan's laugh filled the quiet forest.

'That wasn't funny, you asshole,' Myuna said but she couldn't help smiling.

'It was, and you know it.' He took her arm and pulled her up. She tripped and landed with her head on his chest. A blush crept to her face and she immediately wanted to pull herself away from Gilan, but his trained reflexes beat her own and she felt his lips against hers.

The little spoon was causing a vortex in the brown ocean. The brown ocean of coffee and honey in a huge cup. It tasted heavenly, even though it was no Star Bucks. Actually, all kinds of coffee tasted heavenly in my opinion. I stared longingly inside the cup and absorbed the coffee in one gulp. Light looked kinda grossed out by the sound of that. I raised an eyebrow and put the cup on the table. L remained oblivious to my behaviour. Not that I had expected anything less.

'This is one of my favourite coffee shops. If you sit here in the back, nobody can hear what you're talking about.' Those words reminded me of another evening in another story and a grey-haired man in a cloak. I stared at my now empty cup.

'You've picked the perfect place for this,' L said. Even though those words contained a compliment, the tone of his voice didn't exactly imply that that was the case, or that he at least didn't want to admit it.

'Yeah. For one thing, back here nobody's going to be staring at you for sitting like that, ha ha.' I directed my gaze at Light. Oh, you're so funny.

'True…' said L, while sitting in some kind of monkey posture. He was sucking his thumb again or something and murmured like he was talking to himself instead of Light. Though, his intense stare was directed at him the whole time.

'I just can't sit any other way than this. If I sit the way other people do. My reasoning ability drops by forty percent.' I snorted.

'So, if I sit like you, my reasoning ability will increase?' I said mockingly. L didn't even blink.

'I believe it is only the case with people who possess reasoning ability.' Light did his stupid laugh again and I was so close to stabbing my spoon in L's nose. I didn't do it though. I had been violent enough for the day. Just when you decide to save his ass he becomes even more of a prick than he already was.

'So, Yagami-kun, what did you want to ask me?'

'That can wait until you're positive that I'm not Kira. So, you go ahead and start, Ryuga .' Such a perfect and polite young boy he is. Light's sweet tone made me want to puke, although L's wasn't much better.

'In that case…I don't mean to be rude, but can I test your reasoning abilities?' L asked with the same blank stare on his face.

'Sure. Sounds like fun,' Light answered, while taking a sip of his coffee. He looked carefree. If I hadn't been addicted to Death Note, I would have thought he was a normal student. I might have even thought he was handsome. Not that being a serial killer affects your looks, but… one's appearance somehow becomes less appealing to me when I am aware of the fact the person is a complete jackass inside.

'Does the fact that I told you I'm L tell you anything?' Light's "hmmm" was followed by an explanation of him knowing that L believed Kira also needed a name to kill and that L chose the name of an idol as his alias on purpose. I had expected this and was preparing to tune the conversation out. I already knew this stuff.

'I also figured that Jade is here either to threaten me or to pressure me –in case I am Kira, which I am not- into messing up, or something like that. She tried to assault me, after all.' My eyes widened a second and I sincerely hoped that none of the two guys had seen it.

'That is correct,' said L.

'Is it working?' I asked sweetly, while glaring daggers at him.

'Not really, ha ha.' Light answered. Others would find his smile genuine, but I knew better. I was sure he was cursing me under his breath. That, or I just hated the guy's guts so much that I might've actually wanted it to be that way.

L and Light conversed for a bit longer. Thumbs were sucked and fake laughs were heard by the annoyed ears of yours truly. I managed to pay attention again when L picked a paper out of the pocket of his baggy jeans and put it on the table. As always, he was holding the object like it could bite him at any moment. And I thought I was paranoid.

'This information has never been made public. I'd like you to look at it and tell me what you think. This is a list of the twelve agents who were murdered by Kira. With the order in which they received the file and the order in which they died.' Apparently, L didn't really care I would also see the file. Those agents had a lot of weird names. Not that I was one to talk. Who would call his/her child Myuna? I had never met anyone with the same name as I had.

'And these three photographs show notes written by prisoners shortly before they died. We believe they wrote them under Kira's control.' Light picked up the list and stared at it.

'First, please take a look at the FBI list. Does it tell you anything?' Was it just me or was L sounding like some teacher, or mentor? I knew what L was trying to do. He was trying to make Light spill the beans. For Light to blow his cover. Pity it was that Light wasn't stupid enough to fall for it. I began to mess around with my spoon again.

'Ryuga… What's the file they received? If I don't know that, there's no way I can make sense of any of this.'

'Oops… sorry. That's a file containing the names and photographs of all twelve agents. So they could each know who the others were. The day they received this file, they all died.' This was getting rather boring. Though I had to compliment them for their acting skills. L looked like a complete dork when he scratched his head like that. I giggled softly.

'What's so funny, Jade?' Light said curiously. I frowned. Had he grown paranoid, too? Oh, right, he already was. He used those techniques to find out if someone had entered his room, after all.

'That's none of your business,' I replied coldly.

'You know, for someone that works with L you're not very civil, or bright.' Before I could carry out my spoon-in-the-nose-plan, L distracted me by answering I'm-a-gay.

'As a matter of fact, she is not working for me. Also, she is doing this exact assignment because of those rather vexing qualities.' Well wasn't he a charmer.

'Why thank you,' I answered bitterly. L ignored me and continued to play mind games with his gay suspect. It all looked very dramatic, but considering I had seen it already, I didn't find it very entertaining. That is, until L got phone-called. The hypocrite. He always went commanding everyone to turn off their phones. He always excluded himself.

Light's phone ringed soon after that. It was kinda funny how everyone's ringtone was always the theme song of the anime.

'Yagami-kun, your father-'

'Had a heart attack.'

'Kira?!'

'They yelled in unison,' I added dryly. I know, not a very nice thing to say at a time like this, but I knew chief Yagami was going to be okay, at least for a while, if I would succeed in stopping this whole thing in a way that was still unknown to me.

Oh, that poor Mister Yagami. He had been so busy and now he even had had a heart attack. Not mention his son was a serial killer… I really pitied the guy. His wife too. Although she could pull of some scary faces. I understood she was in shock but… Christ. I also was a bit surprised at her ability to deny the things that most people had already accepted. When they talked about Kira, she acted like she didn't even know he existed for God's sake! I wondered if indirectness was a Japanese thing. It had also occurred to me when I was working with Sayuri. For someone from Holland – where directness is a quality one can be proud of- it was hard to get the hang of the Japanese manners, especially for a rude kid like me.

Light was acting like he thought Kira was the cause of his heart attack, although the bastard already knew that it wasn't.

'You head the task force in charge of this case… Kira has more than enough reason to want you dead. A murder attempt by Kira, hmm… We can't rule it out completely.' That tactless L had caused Sachiko Yagami to make another scary face.

'Sachiko, Light's here now and anyway, I'm alright. You go on home. And not a word about this to Sayu, I don't want to upset her.' That guy was such a good father. Such a waste on Light. It made me upset. Upset that I would be forced to reveal the ugly truth to him. I doubted that there would be another way to stop Light.

Miss Yagami left and Soichiro began talking about how he had been asking for a heart attack with his brand new lifestyle, that had been created after trying to hunt Kira down. Light, who, in my memory hadn't been sure that Ryuzaki was the real L, was now convinced of the fact that he was. Light frowned and I could tell he was yet again absorbed in one of his mind games.

'So, Ryuzaki, has taling to my son cleared away your suspicions?'

'No. To be honest, all his comments regarding the Kira case were just too on-the-ball. It's made me suspect him even more.'

'Geez, L. It's not necessary tell him all of that now. The guy just had a heart attack!' I said. Stupid, tactless zombie-man.

'Yeah, Ryuga. Saying that to me is one thing, but don't say things in front of my dad. That will upset his condition. Try to have a little consideration.' Oh wow, he was actually agreeing with me.

'It's alright, Light, Jade. An ambiguous answer wouldn't make me feel any better. I much prefer hearing the truth. And even though you're under suspicion, I understand it's not quite enough to make you an actual suspect.'

'That's correct. You seem to misunderstand me a little, Yagami-kun. As I told you earlier, when I say "suspicion" I'm talking about a very slight possibility. Let me explain again. Kira murdered the FBI agents who entered Japan. This is clear from the fact that all of them died of heart attacks on December 27, the very same day they received that file. It is also a fact that Kira had access to task force information. I don't know how, though it does seem the firewalls on the task force computers are not very secure…' As always, L's eyes widened dramatically while he talked.

'Regardless, there's a very good possibility that Kira was able to access data from a task force member's computer. However, even though Kira murdered the FBI agents, he has not killed a single Japanese investigator. This also can lead to infer that Kira is related to someone of the task force. Well, I suppose Kira might be capable of murdering a member of his own family…' Oh, L. He was so close. Light must have felt pretty nervous at that point.

'I see…' was all Light said.

After that, Light's big acting show began again. Oh, how affected he was by all that had happened. He had promised to make sure Kira would get the death penalty and all the other drama. I saw the flaws in his acting. The shimmer in his eyes was in my opinion a maniacal one. I kept telling myself that the reason why I hated him was a bad one. I had killed people myself. However, I couldn't forgive the fact that he was so unscrupulous about it. I saw L's intense stare was directed at him. That's right, there was someone else who was doubting him. I wasn't alone in that.

L began asking Light about his image of Kira. At L's conclusion that Kira was Light's little sister Sayu, Light got all angry. Soichiro told them to take it outside when it looked like Light and L were going to fight.

'Kira is evil. There's no denying that… But lately I've been starting to think of it more like this: the real evil is the power to kill people.' I nodded.

'That's true. It really is something that can turn any human being into a wreck.' I shook my head and stared at the ground. How stupid! L and Soichiro knew that I had possibly killed people but how foolish of myself to start talking about that when Kira himself was in the room! I was giving him a clue.

'Jade-san? What's wrong? You're shaking.' Light was truly confused with my behaviour. Mister Yagami and L looked at me warily.

'N-no it's nothing.' Bloody clothes and broken bones. Eyes without any light. Cold, motionless bodies.

I heard someone was about to stand.

'I believe it is best if we leave now, mister Yagami.' It had been L.

'That's alright Ryuzaki, I'll be back at work as soon as I can.' L and Light started an argument about this but mister Yagami stopped them.

'We can discuss this later, I believe that Jade is having a hard time standing.' That sounded really lame. It was true though. I had grabbed the chair for some support, but I fell anyway. Suddenly I felt… bones around me? No arms, Two skinny arms in a white sleeved shirt that had prevented me from tumbling over. I hastily grabbed them.

'You almost made a nasty fall, Jade-chan.'

'I think that's quite obvious,' I snarled, while trying to stand up. L slowly let go of me. His face seemed a bit disappointed. I wondered why. God, that guy was weird sometimes. Or rather, all the time.

'Ryuga, stop pouting and let's go,' Light said impatiently.

'Why is he pouting?' I asked, mostly to distract my mind from bloody bodies. Light didn't answer though. Arrogant bastard.

Outside, Light began asking what he could do for L not to suspect him anymore. He also told L that he might not be able to work for the task force yet because of his father. After that, a black car came and Watari opened the door for L and myself. I was glad to leave Light Yagami alone in the darkness.

L immediately began to talk business inside the car.

'Jade-chan.'

'Yes?'

'I believe it would be beneficial for the both of us if you told me exactly what you have witnessed in the past.' I nearly choked on my own saliva.

'Goddammit, L! I had just forgotten all about it. Why did you have to bring it up again?' L sighed.

'I told you, because I think it would be ben-'

'Yeah, beneficial for the both of us. It was a rhetorical question, smartass. And I'm not going to tell you anything. At least, not yet.' Because I believed I would freak out if I would. Honestly, I was tired as hell. And when you're tired, the drama that is your life gets even worse.

'I see. Then, you can tell me when you are ready to do so. In the meantime, please don't bring up anything that may suggest your deeds in the past. I don't want you to become another target for Kira.'

It was too dark to see L's face properly and if it hadn't been, I would have seen the same old poker face anyway. It was impossible to tell if he genuinely cared if I would be a target or if it would simply be a loss of one of his puppets. That was what I thought while I was staring at L's silhouette. When I realised what I was doing I shook my head.

Why did I even care?

'Meranda!' Meranda would probably never get used to the way the Japanese woman pronounced her name. '

They were sitting at a small restaurant. The same one where Meranda had encountered Light. Meranda was eating miso soup yet again, she had come to like the dish. She had taken a seat in the back of the restaurant. She didn't like the way some people stared at her. Foreigners were often stared at, as she had found out.

The small woman that was sitting in front of her ignored her remark.

'It sure is nice to see you again. I need a break from all those youngsters.' "Those youngsters" were the employees.

'Me too, ' Meranda said honestly. 'From one youngster in particular.' The Japanese woman across the table blinked.

'Which one? I thought your grandchild wasn't here.' Meranda nodded and sighed. She was glad to finally tell someone about a matter that had been bugging her to no end for the last few days.

'It's not my granddaughter. It's a boy.'

'A boy? Don't tell me you suddenly got into a relationship. You're married, you know.' The woman grinned and Meranda blushed. For a second she thought of Floris and how much she had wanted to say goodbye to him before she had entered this weird world.

'Get your mind out of the gutter, you. It's not like that! Some teenager has been….following me for a while and has asked me strange questions. He even knows where I live, he dropped a photo of my granddaughter in my mail!'

The eyes of the small, grey-haired woman widened. 'That sounds really dangerous! You should tell the police about this.' Meranda cringed. She had never been a big fan of letting other people take care of her problems.

'Now don't look so proud! It's completely normal to tell the police.' The Japanese woman laid a hand on Meranda's shoulder to reassure her somehow.

'Yeah, I know, it would be stupid not to do so.' Still, she didn't want to give Light Yagami the idea that he had gotten to her. A terrible thought occurred to her. What if he had somehow abducted Myuna? She had to go to the police. Maybe they would manage to locate her granddaughter. If she could find Myuna she could help her to-

'Meranda, Can I see the picture?' Meranda had almost forgotten about the other female's presence.

'Sure Sayuri, here you go.' She picked the photo out of her Hello Kitty-wallet – she had to bring some Japanese souvenirs after all- and gave it to the smaller woman. The former almost dropped it in surprise.

'I knew it!' Sayuri triumphantly swung her fist in the air.

'I beg your pardon?'

'I already felt you and her were similar somehow. Even though I don't even know your last name. I just thought of her because you are both Dutch.' Sayuri pointed at the picture.

'Jade van Bohemen is your granddaughter!' That got Meranda even more confused.

'Who is my granddaughter?' Both the first name and the last name belonged to her relatives but that combination was just strange.

Sayuri kept looking at her and the picture. 'The resemblance is so obvious!' Meranda frowned.

'Not at all. Our hair colours and eye colours don't even match, and I am taller,' she answered automatically, temporarily forgetting the strange name she had just heard.

'Yes, but the both of you are just as stubborn and have the same angry expression.' Meranda glared at her and blushed immediately when she realised she was just proving Sayuri's point.

'Never mind the resemblance! Just how did you come up with that ridiculous name? And how do you know her in the first place?' That last remark was added a few seconds after the other two, when she realised her mind was being bit slower than usual. She could tell she hadn't been caught a story for a long time. Not that she could actually complain about that…

'Jade-chan told me that name, of course. She has been working with me for a month. The poor girl was all hungry and tired. Her clothes were in tatters and she looked… lost somehow. But now I understand! She ran away from home, right? I mean that's what you told me. This is so exciting! We'll find your granddaughter back but wait a minute, she could be abducted by the boy you were talking about!' Sayuri was rambling now.

'Calm down, she is not abducted, at least, not in the picture. Look, she is in a classroom, although I hope the guy hasn't approached her afterwards. And I am not planning to take her home just yet. First, we must finish of some business here.'

'I will go with you to the police station! That way, I'll be able to make sure that you'll go.' Sayuri said. Meranda shook her head.

'It's best if you don't go with me. It could get you in trouble.' Sayuri accepted this….after a few hours. Meranda already had an idea what the reason had been for Myuna's alias. How couldn't she? The Kira-case was so intriguing that Meranda, who had had experience with stories, was positive that the heart of the story evolved around this case. And Light Yagami, she was certain he had something to do with it too. Myuna having an alias implicated she had somehow gotten evolved in the case, or she had already known the world she had been dealing with.

If that was the case, Meranda sure hoped she was not too late…
