11: Tobias
Time seemed to be lacking now that I found something to put effort to. Between the meeting for the city, Christina asking to hang out, and my mother making sure I was doing well. I couldn't hold it against those two, but it was driving me crazy that they hovered over me since I fainted when Zeke showed me a clip of Tris coming out of my apartment. It had been near a week, and they made sure that someone was around me.
I found myself sitting through more talking on what area to start restoring before the other areas. I had already said that the best way was to start where we had the most population then work outward. Most on the board didn't like the idea since that would mean where they all lived would be near the last places to be restored. The last of the last places to be restored where the area where no one lived yet, that seemed to be the easiest to agree to for everyone.
"No, we should start where the new immigrants are taking residence, who cares what the people who have lived here before the war think!"
"Well, that is just rude! Those People who have been here deserve to have their city back to how it was before all this hell broke lose!"
I gritted my teeth and stood up. "Enough," I said it like I was training Dauntless Kids again. "This is a pointless debate that has gone on long enough."
The room went still, all eyes on me. I gave it a bit of time to let everyone know that I was through with this bickering. "We will start the repairs center of OUR city, slowly spreading out to the edges. We will list of the order of which building get to be worked on, starting with the buildings in the center, we will branch out in circular pattern till each building is either restored to the best of what OUR people can do or we have scrapped the building to use what it has to offer to fix up other near by building." I took a deep breath, looking around the room, waiting for more bickering or disagreement.
One man stood, he was from Erudite once upon a time, and he still held that auror that he was Erudite. He took a bit of a pause before speaking, "In light of what you have said Four, I agree with you logical approach to start at the heart of the city."
Another man stood up, he was an outsider, but seemed to be well know by the other emigrates, "I may not like Evzen or agree with his stances, but I do agree with his agreement to Four." He always seemed to speak as if he never addressed anyone, and he always looked up into the far reaches of the area when ever he talked; otherwise he sat and watched very one.
"Then who should lead this project? Who do we think would make sure that each place be restored to it's fullest?" asked Freya. She was in her late years, but her word seemed to carry a lot of weight to those from Condor, after most of their leaders disappeared or died over the last two years. I believe that she ran more behind the scenes with the Condor Faction than anyone will speak of. Freya sat back in her chair and looked around the room.
I sat back down into my chair and waited for their move. With these people, you let them think they know what is going on till they lose track, most times Freya brought the focus back onto the main topic that the group started with. It was highly interesting why she waited for someone else to bring back the focus to what really needed to happen with the rebuilding.
Evzen stood, waiting to see if his female companion, Elene, would stand and give her two sense on the matter at hand, like she always did when Evzen gave his. She seemed to be looking down near her feet, like she was debating on what she was going to say.
Ivor, who was stilling next to a quit Freya, stood and took a moment to clear his airways. "With so much happening, we will need someone that is not biase to lead the planning, then another to lead the workers while the registration happens. I do not know much about construction, but I do know that I am going to nominate Tobias to take care of the planning. I do this based on what he has already stated for how we should approach this."
"Ai, I will stand by Tobias taking the lead on this project." Elene stood up next to Evzen, giving her opinion. Evzen gave her a weary look, but made no argument against her word.
Nosh and Johanna both said they agree to this nomination. Freya stepped up and asked if any had an opposing opinion, which none was given. "Then it has been declared that Tobias will head the project and all planning for the respiration of Chicago."
I groaned inwards as I knew this was going to take a lot more time and effort than it should, Thank you People⦠I watched as everyone started to discuss the next item on the list to be discussed. I sat back and watched for a bit, but it seemed, for once, there seemed to be little debate.
It seemed like hours had passed and everyone was in an agreeable mood to take care of issues at hand. They started about the clean water supply when Zeke slipped in next to me and gave me small smile. My stomach gave a bit of a turn. He handed me a tablet that had a few different pictures of Tris showing up. I raised an eyebrow at him, wondering where he got these. He singled for me to follow him.
In the hall, I stopped and looked at him. "Why are you showing me so many pictures of her?"
He bit his lip a bit, "After seeing the video of Tris from last week, I started wondering if she had showed up before in the city since her death, if not, why show herself now? Also brought up the question of why she hasn't contacted any of us before she visited you? Though it's very interesting that you did not remember right away that she visited you."
I leaned against the wall, "I have not thought about it in that way. How long ago did some cameras starting catching pictures of her?"
"Six month, six month of her suddenly be in a place, then disappearing. We have a range of times when she has showed up, and different days. We have about 3 to 7 spottings of Tris showing up a week. We have times where on the same day, she shows up across the city. Late at nights, she is normally seen riding the train by the cameras. We also have footage of people walking close enough to see her, and she seems to have found a way to hide herself from the cameras as well as the people," explained Zeke.
If she has been showing up for the past few months, what was she doing? There always seemed to be more questions that relate to Tris than answers anyone could explain. I took in a deep breath, "Get me the days, times. Please, keep looking back up till her death, if you can. Thank you Zeke."
"Alright, I will look farther back," Zeke looked around a bit. "I may not be the only one that could be potentially looking into this. I haven't shown anyone what I have found, though it feels like I have been attacking attention from someone, but they have yet to show who they are."
I took in his words, "We aren't in the clear yet for all of us working well together, but be careful none the less."
He gave a small smile and went on this way. I looked down to see that I still had Zeke's tablet. I turned around to stop him, and ran my face into a head of hair. "Gah," I stepped back to find I had run headlong into a Caleb. I just stopped and stared at this man that always reminded me of what I loss on that day. I took a deep breath, let it out and waited to see if he would say something first. He just stood there, like he wanted to say something, but didn't know what to say at all.
"Hi," I offered his a place to start.
Caleb took a gulp of air, "Hello Tobias."
"How are you?"
He bit his lip, like he was trying to decide what to say, or like he was worried that he would be laughed at for what he wanted to say.
"Speak up or not at all, either way, I have shit to do."
"I found evidence that Tris is still alive!" He stammered out.
I gave pause and looked at him to see if he would state more. His cheeks lit up a bit, "I kind of found some info on Tris. I noticed that something different was going on about a week ago..." He trailed off, like he was waiting to get his ass kicked. I waved my hand a bit, trying to get him to keep going. "I have this odd feeling for the past few months, like Tris was with me, or following me, or I just missed her."
I raised an eyebrow at him, "So, more than once you thought Tris has been around you?"
"Pretty much. I kept thinking it was from me missing her, but I realized I was wrong. I do miss her, but not like I was missing her at first. It was more like my senses knew she was there, but I just couldn't see her," he paused for a long breath. "While, kind of goofing off in the security system, I came across a bit of what Zeke was looking at, and I caught some images of Tris on his screen."
I stopped him, "So you are the only that has been causing issues in our security system? It takes days to fix what you mess up, and you keep doing it?" I stared him down, hoping he would break. We haven't had any issues with the security system, so I knew he at least knew how to cover his tracks.
"I have cause no issue, I am fully admitting to hacking the system and spying on Zeke," he said.
I smiled at his words, which seemed to unnerve him more. My gut was right, even before he admitted anything, this was who Zeke was complaining was 'following' him in his 'research' about Tris. "Why all the sudden have you come forward with this information?"
"Because I have found more information based off of Zeke's work, there seems to be a pattern to when she shows up, and where. Based on the info, I found where she first started appearing and where she leaves from the most," he said this like he was Erudite giving off a report.
"Where?" was all I wanted to know at this point.
