The others couldn't help but stare at the new couple. It was just so strange to see InuYasha being so affectionate with anyone, let alone the girl he fought with all the time.
Kagome settled herself in between his legs and ate her fish.
"Mmm, you did a great job on the fish, Sango."
The demon slayer blinked a few times to get out of her musings.
"Thanks, I've watched you long enough to get the hang of it."
Everything seemed fine after that, but Miroku couldn't wipe the smirk off his face.
"So, InuYasha there seems to be a new development between you and Kagome…care to tell the rest of us, or do you want us to keep on guessing?"
He shrugged, "not much to tell. Kagome is my intended and one day she will be my mate. End of story. I don't have any sleazy details for you, ya damn pervert."
The monk frowned.
"Come now, InuYasha! I'll wait until the girls aren't around before getting all the juicy details."
Growling, he leveled Miroku with a menacing glare.
"There's nothing to tell, so drop it!"
Sitting back, the monk smiled.
"But you did see here naked, didn't you?"
Before Inu got the chance to pummel him, Sango raised her weapon and banged him, fairly hard on the head.
Kagome watched the whole exchange and couldn't hold her laughter in anymore.
"What's so funny, Kagome?"
Inu looked rather confused, but the girl just shook her head.
"We're just such a crazy dysfunctional family."
Smirking, InuYasha leaned down and nuzzled her ear.
"One day we will have our own crazy little family."
Blushing, Kagome couldn't stop the smile creeping on her lips.
After dinner, everyone settled down for the night, and the couple slept in Kagome's sleeping bag, InuYasha cradling her close to his chest.
For the first time in his life, it seemed like someone in Heaven was smiling down on him, giving him a chance to have what he never thought was possible, love and a family.
(2 weeks later)
Kagome looked at herself in the mirror and couldn't help but notice…she was glowing. It was like she was so happy that an inner light illuminated her skin. Looking down, she swayed back and forth, watching her dress twist around. It was a pink and lacey, empire waist, knee length sun dress just perfect for such a wonderful day, a gift her mother gave her as an early wedding present.
Laughing, Kagome remembered her wedding shower. Her mother made everyone wear white short dog ear headbands to join the party. No one knew the reason why, they just thought her mom was crazy and fun, but Kagome knew. Ever since they announced to her mother they were going to be mates, there had been nonstop talk of puppy-eared grandbabies.
Now however, was the day of the rehearsal dinner and her mom wanted to take them out for the day before everyone showed up.
Walking downstairs, she was treated to InuYasha being dressed in modern day clothes, and his hair was in a low ponytail. He smirked as he watched her glide down, her dress billowing around her. Seeing his admiration, she beamed at him, and jumped halfway down.
Instinctually, he ran up to catch her, and she laughed.
"I knew you wouldn't let me fall."
Gazing deeply into her eyes, he lifted her slightly to kiss her forehead.
"I'll always be here to catch you."
Holding her bridal style, he spun her around and listened to her giggles.
"You two are so cute!"
Kagome's mom snapped a picture before InuYasha put her back down. They all headed out for a fun day of shopping for ramen and wedding decorations.
Kagome walked by the sacred tree, and noticed a couple staring up at it.
Something about them kept her interest, as the woman with long black hair laced her fingers through her husband's. She leaned into his side, and he laid his head on hers.
Smiling, Kagome sighed as the scene's romantic atmosphere was not lost on her.
"Hey, Kagome! Come on, your mom is waiting."
InuYasha ran up as he spoke, and saw his girl and the woman at the tree look back.
Staring, his eyes went from Kagome to the other woman a few times, but when the man turned around it all made sense.
Future InuYasha smirked at him, and tapped his hat. His wife looked over and smiled brightly at them, before wrapping her arm around her husband.
Kagome glanced at Inu and saw his strange expression.
"What is it, Inu?"
Turning around, she caught a hint of silver peeking out of his hat and coat.
"Is that…?
"Yeah, it is."
Watching the couple walk away, Kagome laced their fingers together and leaned on him.
They hadn't defeated Naraku yet, but now they had no doubts.
"Naraku will be destroyed."
Smiling, Kagome looked up at him.
"And we'll get our happily ever after."
