Chapter 10
Dark's scream echoed through the empty hallway. It wasn't as loud as Krad's had been but it was loud enough. The pain in his back hurt like nothing before.
In his pain he couldn't help wondering what was going on. Why did his back hurt?
Before the thought had left his mind the pain stopped. But only for a few seconds. When it started again the pain was concentrated right beside his shoulder blades. If it hadn't been impossible be would have said that something was trying to get out of his back, at least it felt like it.
Dark stood in an empty hallway, clinging to the wall – just to be able to stand – screaming his heart out. Even if the thought never really crossed his mind, he wondered why no one heard his screams. Were they used to it?
The pain grew if possible even stronger and now Dark felt it, something was really trying to get out of his back. Slowly – at least to him – a pair of the blackest black wings shout out from his back. With them the pain stopped and he just stood there staring at the wings. What was going on? How had this happened?
Dark let his legs stop bearing him and he fell down to the floor. He couldn't stop the tears forming in his eyes. Why did this happen to him? Why did he have to be a Mousy?
Those were his last thoughts before he let himself slip into darkness.

"What are we to do? I know we should tell them that they aren't real brothers."
The sound of his parents arguing woke a young Dark up. He couldn't really hear what they were saying but a feeling he had made him think it was about him, him and his brother.
The young Dark slowly rose from his bed and sneaked over to the door. Without a sound the door opened and he looked out. Outside the room both his parents argued.
"I love both boys equally. I love Dark as a son even if he isn't mine," his father said.
"I know you do," his mother said. "I'm not saying anything else but I think it is time Dark knows the truth about him. You are his father in everything but blood. You know this. You will always be his father. But I think he needs to know about himself."
The silence lay heavy around them. Dark held his breath. They were talking about him. What about him? What did they mean with the thing that his father wasn't his father?
"Even you need to know everything." His mother continued and broke the silence. "I never told you everything about Dark's father. I never told you everything about Mousy-san."
"Mousy?"
"Yes, Dark's father was the heir of the Mousy. When he gets older and before he turns twenty he most be in contact with the Hikari heir, or he dies. I don't know the story behind it but before Mousy-san disappeared, before he died, he told me that I had to find the Hikari family and let the Hikari heir meet Dark, or they would both die. I have looked everywhere after someone called Hikari but with no luck. I can't take it anymore. And with the war before our feet I get scared we won't find him either. I'm so scared."
Dark could only watch when his father hugged his mother who started to cry.
"Mother," Dark said softly and walked out from there he stood. "Don't cry, everything will turn out all right."
"Dark," his mother looked up and looked at him. "What are you doing awake?" she asked and tried to dry her tears.
"Couldn't sleep."
"Come here, honey."
Dark walked over slowly to his mother and climbed up into her knee.
"Why were you crying, mother?" he asked and looked up with his big violet eyes. "Have I done something?"
"No, Dark, you haven't done anything. But there are some things you should know." His mother stopped talking and looked up at his father a few seconds before her eyes went back to him. "Dark, what I am about to tell you is important and you shouldn't forget it."
Dark nodded his little head and his mother started to tell him a story. A story about a man called Mousy. Dark listened as well as he could with his eight years.
"This man, Dark, this man was your father."
"But," Dark looked up and met his mother's eyes before he looked over to his father. "Father," he said with a weak voice. "Don't you want me anymore?"
With a few steps Dark's father stood beside him and picked him up. "Of course I want you, Dark," he said and met Dark's teary violet eyes. "I love you Dark. You will always be my son. Don't forget that. Even if you aren't my son by blood you are my son by heart." He hugged him hard and kissed him on his forehead.
"Dark, listen to me," his mother said. "I know you don't want to hear this but I must tell you."
Dark looked up from his fathers arms. "Mother?"
"Dark times will come. We will lose a great war but we won't lose hope. When the times are the darkest, the families of light and dark will find each other. In the last second their wings will come out. On those wings peace will fly."
Both Dark and his father looked strangely at his mother. The words that had left her mouth weren't the ones they thought would. Even Dark realised that.
"Mother?"
Dark watched as his mother blinked a few times like she couldn't see them.
"What happened?" she asked.
The two males in the room looked at each other. "You said something about something dark," Dark said with a confused look on his face. "I didn't understand it."
Dark's mother echoed his confused look. "I don't remember that," she mumbled. "I don't think it wasn't that important."
Dark's father stood surprisingly silent beside them. He looked like he was deeply lost in thoughts.
"Dark," his mother said. "I think I was about to tell you something important, wasn't I?"
Dark nodded his little head and let his big eyes met his mother's light blue. They looked to different. His mother was a rather small but very beautiful woman. She had long light brown hair and eyes like a shade of the sky, a light shade of the sky. Dark didn't take after her that much. There were a few things you could notice but nothing big. Probably he looked more like his real father.
"Well when listen to me," his mother started again. "I know you don't want to hear this. But there is a war getting started. At the moment it's small but it will grow I know it. I have seen it." She took a deep breath before continuing. "I have a bad feeling about this war. A really bad feeling. I feel that neither I nor your father will come out alive. No, listen Dark," she said when he was about to protest. "Don't feel said or anything. Even if we disappear from your life we will always watch over you and your brother. That is what I want you to do. I want you to watch over your younger brother and protect him as much as you can. You will need each other one day. I know that for sure."
"Mother," Dark said with tears in his eyes. "I don't want you to disappear."
His mother smiled at him and kissed him on the forehead. "I don't want to leave you either. I will try my best not to leave you. I promise. But if something happen to us I want you to look after Daisuke. Can you do that?"
Dark had tears in his eyes but he nodded.
"You are such a good boy," his mother said and smiled at him. She once again kissed him on his fore head. "Do you think you can sleep now?" she asked.
"Yes," was the answer she got. She smiled and picked him up and carried him to his bed room. She put him in bed and after a few moments she could see him fall asleep.
When she knew for sure he was asleep she left the room and walked over to her husband.
"Did I make the right choice?" she asked.
Her husband studied her a few seconds before he nodded. "I think you did. He needed to know the truth. There is just one thing that worries me and that is the prophesy you got. I know you don't remember it but it made me frightened. I think dark will play a big part in this war but not until it's over."
Dark's mother looked at her husband with a sad smile. "I think you are right. For the last couple of weeks everything has told me something like that would happen. I just don't want it to be like that."
She couldn't take it anymore and broke down in tears in her husband's arms. "I hope the gods will protect him and Daisuke," she whispered.
At the same time the words left her mouth a strange light surrounded Dark's bed. For a few seconds the light surrounded Dark before it settle down creating a shield around him. it stayed like that for a few seconds before it disappeared.

Hiwatari Satoshi closed his eyes for a few seconds. It had gone an hour since he had spoken to the Niwa. Niwa. He had heard about the Niwa family before. It had once been a respected family but something had happened not long ago. Satoshi didn't really know what but after that the family had gotten less respect. If he really wanted to know he was sure he could find it somewhere but that was not important at the moment.
He had sent Daisuke back to the slave house after their talk with a promise he would met him soon again. But first he needed a plan.
Satoshi thought about what the boy had told him. The slave he had seen in Krad's room had he really been a Mousy? What did he know about the Mousy family?
Satoshi shook his head. The only thing he knew was that the Mousy family had as much secrets as the Hikari family. And he only knew a few of them. He couldn't help to think about how much had been lost when Krad's father died. A lot but he hoped not everything.
Once again he shook his head. He didn't have time to think about that now. He needed to concentrate on finding a way to get out of there with the slave and get to the castle unnoticed.
Satoshi know he couldn't do this by himself so he needed the Niwa. It was only right as it was both of their brothers they were going to save. Satoshi didn't know what the king wanted to do with them but when he now had them he was sure it wasn't going to be pleasant.
No, he couldn't think like that. He needed to clear his mind.
Maybe in all this chaos that had came with the death of Hiwatari, his father, no one would notice that he and the slave disappeared. He could only hope.
The same moment the thought came to him he started to leave the small room he had found to think in. The hallway outside lay empty and quickly he left the room and soon found his way to his room. He needed some cloths for the slave. Satoshi needed help and the Niwa wouldn't be any good to him if he froze to death.
When Satoshi had packed a few things to the slave and himself he left his room and walked or sneaked out to the slave house.
The sun was yet to reach the horizon so the slaves where still sleeping. Quietly Satoshi walked among the sleeping slaves trying to find the red head he had spoken to. It took him some time but soon he found the Niwa a bit away from the other slaves.
"Niwa," he said and shook the boy gently.
The boy before him didn't wake up sp Satoshi shook him gently again. "Niwa," he said.
Slowly the small boy started to move. Tired red eyes met his blue. Never had he seen eyes like that. Satoshi shook his head; he didn't have time to think like that.
"We need to leave," he whispered and grabbed the boy's hand. "Before someone notice us."
A strange feeling came over Satoshi when the Niwa's eyes started to clear. The boy was awake.
To where?" the boy asked.
"We need to save our brothers."
The small boy looked at him, searching for something wrong. Satoshi was quiet during the search hopping that the boy would find what he was searching for. A few seconds later a nod came from the red head.
"I will go with you," he said and Satoshi gave him a small smile before he pulled out the cloths he had taken with him.
"Put this on," he said when he gave them over. "So you won't freeze," he added when the boy looked like he was going to protest. "You will need them. There is a long road to the castle, or maybe not that long. It takes a few days walking. And in this weather you will need the cloths, especially the shoes."
Ten minutes later the two boys stood outside the slave house. It would take them a few days if they walked. It would take about two days if they ride. Maybe they would take a horse instead.
"Do you know how to ride," Satoshi asked.
After a few seconds silence the boy nodded. "Yes, but I haven't done it in a long time."
"Good," Satoshi said. "Then we will take a horse. Follow me."
It hadn't been that hard to get into the stable and get a horse. It had been surprisingly easy.
"Sir," the small red head boy said when they were outside the Hikari grounds.
Satoshi turned his head and looked at the boy. "Call me Satoshi," he said.
"Sato...Satoshi," the boy said again.
"Yes."
"Why are you doing this?"
Satoshi stopped and thought about it before he answered. "I have a feeling I must do this. I don't really know why but if I don't do this something bad would happen. And I can't do this on my own. I need your help. Both our brothers are important I know that. With you telling me that your brother is the Mousy heir and my brother is the Hikari heir. I know this mean something. I know those two being together mean something and I need to find out what."
The boy nodded. "I feel the same way but not really. When you came to me I know I needed to follow you. Something inside me told me to trust you; it told me to follow you where ever you were to lead me. I know this sounds crazy but I don't really know how to explain it in any other way."
There was a small silence before Satoshi said something.
"You don't need to explain anything to me. I am just happy you are with me so I don't have to do this by myself."
They stopped talking as they rode away. The horse held them both and run fast. They needed to be there as fast as possible but they didn't wasn't to lose the horse so they took it easy. The day went on and they got somewhat closer to their goal. When the sun set they where halfway to the castle. By this time the next day they would see the castle.
"Rest now," said Satoshi to the other boy. "Tomorrow we will continue our ride."
The boy nodded and lay down on the ground. Not even caring about the cold.
Satoshi smiled a bit before he took out two blankets. One he lay over the boy and one he took for himself.

When Dark opened his eyes an unknown room surrounded him. He couldn't remember what had happen or how he had gotten there. Slowly he rose only to find out he couldn't. Something held him down. Dark turned his head to the side. He couldn't see anything about his situation.
With a sigh he closed his eyes. The only thing he could remember was pain. He had been in pain and passed out. But what had happened after that? A memory, he had seen his mother. He had remembered something important. It had to be important.
Dark sighed again and tried to remember what he had seen and heard. When he concentrated on the memory he was surprised he could remember it so clearly. He could remember every word that had been said.
"So this is the Mousy heir."
The voice made Dark look at the other direction. He lay facedown on a bed. When he had turned his head he could see a familiar face. A face he didn't want to see.
"Now I have the two keys in this war, now I finally will win."
The laugh coming after those words made Dark shiver. There was something inhuman in the laugh. Dark couldn't help noticing something he had missed last time he had seen this face. The last time he had seen the king. And that was the madness. Inside the king eyes madness shone by a dark light.
"You are mad," Dark whispered.
His word's made the king stop laughing and walk closer. Dark closed his eyes as the king's cold fingers touched his cheek.
"You will be quiet," the king said. "I know how to use the power of the dark and light. That is more than you do. And I will start soon but first I need to get the Hikari heir. Don't move until I come back."
When the king left the room Dark closed his eyes. What was going on? He once again tried to sit up but there was still something that held him down. With a sigh he let himself fall dawn to the bed again.
Dark wasn't sure how long he had lain there until something happened. He hadn't heard something come in but suddenly something hard fell on his back. Something hard. With that he could hear a laugh and the something on his back tried to move.
"You two look kind of good together," the king said. At least Dark thought it was the king. It sounded like him. "Dark and light. Well now the fun begins."
The weight above him was suddenly gone and he also felt that he could once again move. Dark slowly turned on the bed and slowly sat up. Something on his back made his balance a little of and when he looked over his shoulder he couldn't help but stare. Out from his back a pair of black wings was. Suddenly he remembered he had seen them before. They were the pain he had suffered before he passed out, before he remembered his mother's words. The words of his mother came again back to him. "Dark times will come. We will lose a great war but we won't lose hope. When the times are the darkest, the families of light and dark will find each other. In the last second their wings will come out. On those wings peace will fly." He had never thought that the wings meant literally. But seeing the wing on his back he was sure it was the one the words aimed on.
"Are you done watching the wings now?"
The question of the king made him look over. He couldn't help but gasp to what he saw before him. Dark had been right it was the king but what the king was holding was the thing that made him gasp. In the kings arm his master stood, Krad stood. The king was having a strong gripe on Krad's hair and the other one around his waist. He had even put some kind of rag in Krad's moth.
"Let him go," Dark whispered. He still knew his place but he couldn't let a nice man like that suffer something he shouldn't.
"I don't think so," the king answered him.
Again Dark couldn't help but gasp. He could see something white behind the blondes back. He could see a pair of white wings.
"Now that both of your wings are out the fun are to begin."
With those words thing king though the blonde toward Dark and both of them fell out of bed. They tumbled over the floor until Dark lay on his back and Krad lay over him. the rag in Krad's mouth had fallen out during their fall.
Their eyes met and they could move.
Suddenly and slowly their heads started to move toward each others. Their eyes closed just as their lips met. The sensation was something they hadn't felt before. They tasted each other and they had never tasted something that felt so right.
Unknown to them a white and black light surrounded them and didn't let anything near. It grew stronger and stronger the longer the kissed. Whatever had happened it was something the king hadn't had thought of.
