Hey guys! time for the next chapter...late, again. Though despite the bad updating I thank everyone that gives it a read and reviews or favourites it!
I'm getting pretty antsy myself with this story so hopefully it will be moved along swiftly in the next few chapters!
Andy sat slumped in his chair, his arms folded across his chest as he silently huffed at the shear injustice.
Every few seconds he'd glance to his left, disgust and fury in his eyes as he found himself still unable to look at the guy for more than three seconds.
Jack was sitting two desks over from him, his elbow propped on the wood as he held an ice pack to his eye. They weren't alone in their suffering as the detention hall was unusually full this evening. Andrea was behind Flynn, Provenza to his right, Tao was up front and Brenda was in the back, right behind Jack. Gavin negotiated his way out, and Fritz was let off due to his lack of participation and the fact that he was needed for a vital team meeting in the gym.
A team meeting that was decidedly low on numbers since half the defense was taking up most of the left hand side of the room. Let it not be said that Jack didn't still have some allies left, however few.
Andy still couldn't believe he was even here, Sharon was going to be furious. It wasn't even as if he'd actually done anything. Not really. They'd almost made it a week, a whole week, without having to deal with Jack and his obnoxious attitude. As per Sharon's wishes they'd all kept their opinions to themselves and effectively stayed out of Jackson's way.
Jack however had pushed them one step too far. Exactly one hour before the end of the school day on a usually uneventful Friday and it had all gone massively wrong. Jack had thrown out a comment, Brenda had snapped back, Daniel Dunn started on Brenda to which Andrea fought back. When some nobody called out Andrea, Provenza had inexplainably lost his shit and Tao got caught in a cross fire. Fritz got in the middle and tried to calm everything down, joined by Andy who apparently came in on the wrong side, Jack tried to hit him, got bumped by Gavin and smashed into a nearby post, hence the need of the ice pack.
And they all ended up with detention.
They had a whole thirty minutes left and then they'd be released. At least watching the ticking of the clock on the wall was something to hold his attention, Andy wasn't sure how much more of this madness he could stand.
The door clicked open and numerous students immediately sat straighter in their seats. The school principal walked quietly into the room, his eyes scanned the scene before he came to a stop at the front of the class.
"Hobbes, Johnson, Tao, Provenza and Flynn."
One by one, as their names were called the attendees rose to their feets, awaiting the inevitable onslaught that was bound to spew down upon them. And then the unthinkable happened.
"You are free to go."
For a moment they thought it was a joke, and then it began to sink in, feeling as if they were literally about to be released from prison. As they gathered their things there was looks of bewilderment shared amongst them, interspersed with an outraged comment from Jack.
"What about the rest of us?" He asked, sitting up in his seat, ice pack forgotten.
"Oh you still have twenty-eight minutes left Mr Raydor, you and Mr Dunn and your other friends will be back to serve your second detention on Monday at 3pm."
"US? What about them!?"
"What about them?"
By this time Andy and the others had stopped by the door to watch the exchange, a shared sense of glee amongst them.
"After a thorough investigation into the events of today it has been highlighted that it was you and your team mates that instigated the little confrontation and I believe a due punishment has been served. Sit down Mr Raydor, or you will incur an additional ten minutes penalty."
As the prinicipal turned back to the group of teenagers gathered in the doorway they quickly scattered, the expression on his face told them in no uncertain terms not to test his generosity.
"Can honestly say, that was totally worth it." Tao sighed as he looked down at his cell, seven missed calls and two voicemails from his mother, he would need to hold on to that thought as he felt the second source of wrath begin to take hold.
"Once is enough for anyone, detention sucks!" Brenda shuddered as she led the group towards the main exit of the building. When Provenza opened the doors and the early evening light hit them they were momentarily blinded, only heightening their new found freedom.
It took them all a few seconds to realise that Sharon and Gavin were waiting for them at the bottom of the steps.
"Whats going on Baker? Couldn't have gotten us out of there any sooner?" Andrea raised an eyebrow at him, hands on her hips as the others moved past her down the steps.
"Well aparently you were unable to get yourself out of there Hobbes! Anyway, as much as I tried, my natural charm and undeniable intelligence were not enough. You all oughta be thanking this one!" Gavin hooked a thumb at Sharon how rolled her eyes, her arms folded across her chest.
"I made one phone call."
"A well played phone call." Gavin looked back at her as she fell into step beside Andy and the group made their way to their respective cars.
"What did you do?" Andy laughed as Sharon cleared her throat beside him.
"I didn't do anything."
"You expect me to believe that, after knowing you for three months you expect me to believe that. C'mon Sharon what'd ya do?" Andy laughed as they reached his car first and the group paused.
"I may, have called my Dad."
"You may have?"
Sharon fixed him a look as he leant against the passenger side door of his car, his hands buried in his pockets.
"Alright fine. I called my Dad, he called Principal Mason, explained the situation and you all got out of this mess without a stain on your record. You're welcome."
"You're such a Daddy's girl." Brenda laughed, looking up from her phone where she was texting Fritz.
"And you aren't, Brenda Leigh? So I took a slight advantage of the fact that my Dad plays golf with the school principal and numerous members of the board of governors. Sue me."
"I think I've been a bad influence on you, now all of a sudden you're using your powers for evil."
"More like cleaning up your mess Andy Flynn!"
"Hey! I was just an innocent bystander!"
"Yeah right Flynn I saw the video! You may not have punched him but you were hardly innocent. None of you were!"
The others exchanged some sheepish looks, Sharon wasn't as angry as they all expected her to be but she certainly wasn't pleased with them either.
"He kinda deserved it Sharon." Andrea shifted where she stood her voice suddenly small.
"I'm not saying he didn't! I'd just rather you all didn't get yourselves in trouble because of him!"
"Well isn't that sweet." Sharon closed her eyes when she heard Jack's voice behind her, the others stood up a little straighter.
"Hardly." Sharon turned on her heel to look at her former boyfriend. "How was detention Jack?"
"I know you had something to do with this Sharon! You won't get away with this."
"I already did Jack." Sharon shrugged as Jack took a step towards her. From the corner or her eye she noticed Andy stand straighter against the side of his car, his hands remained in his pockets, no doubt stopping himself from actually slugging the asshole.
Jack lowered his voice, his eyes growing slightly softer as he looked at her. "This isn't you talking Sharon, it's them. The girl I knew wouldn't be like this, you used to love me that's gotta mean something."
"What's the matter Jack? What about all the girls you throw yourself at, are they all bored with you already?"
"It was just sex Sharon. It meant nothing, not to me. You're the one I've always loved, I always came back to you Babe."
"Not anymore." Sharon shook her head ever so slightly, watching as his expression changed.
This was the first time she'd not believed him, every other time he crawled back she bought his bullshit and took him back. Because she loved him. Thought she loved him. Not anymore.
That pissed Jack off more than any of them were ready for. In his grand plan for life he needed Sharon, she was smart and even Jack knew that she was going to do great things with her life. If he was going to make it he needed her brains to get there. Sure his Dad was ready to buy Jack's way in to law school and his family name had a little influence, but everybody knew that Robert Raydor was a low rate attorney, not worth the paper his cards were printed on.
"You're making a mistake Sharon. Face it, you're cold, frigid, an ice queen! Who the hell is going to want you! You're not going to find anyone else!"
"Shut up asshole!" Andy called out making Sharon jump a little as Jack's words momentarily had her stunned.
"Andy it's alright."
"No it's not alright Sharon. He doesn't get to do that to you, not anymore!"
Sharon turned and walked towards Andy, her eyes fixed on his as she attemped to calm his sudden anger. "Don't do this Andy." Her voice was small but still audible.
"Yeah! Reign it in Flynn! The little guard dog look isn't great on you, just cos' you defend her sometimes isn't going to get you into her pants you know! She's way out of your league pal!"
"That's enough Jack!"
"Oh now we're getting to the real point huh! It's so sweet that you've got a little crush on each other but please, honey if you want to slum it with this street rat for a while then go ahead, get it out of your system, I might be willing to take you back once you've come to your senses!"
Andy opened his mouth to respond but Sharon held him back, just a hand on his arm and his anger began to dissipate. It was a strange phenomenon that he couldn't yet explain.
When Sharon turned to look at Jack she remained standing beside Andy, a slight smirk on her face. "Let's get it straight here and now Jack, I will never come running back to you, not ever. From this moment you will not talk to me, or come near me, again. Whatever vile opinions you have about my friends you can keep those to yourself. Jealousy is not a good look on you Jack."
"Jealousy?"
"Yes. Jealousy. You can't stand it that Andy has been a better friend to me than you ever have, and he's asked for nothing in return. Do us all a huge favour and just walk away."
For a long moment Jack just looked at her, he'd never seen her so determined before. Maybe this time she actually meant it.
"You heard the lady." Andy spoke as he pushed himself up from his car and folded his arms. "Hit the road, Jack."
As Jack walked away there was a silence amongst the group, Brenda was the first to break it.
"Well that felt a little final. Felt kinda good actually."
"It did." Sharon smiled slightly, though she looked a little pale and her eyes gave away her true feelings.
"Guys come on it's Friday night. We should do something." Gavin clapped his hands together, a grin spreading across his face.
"Thanks but I don't really want to be around too many people right now." Sharon shrugged, looking at Andy when he nudged her shoulder lightly.
"We don't need to go out, out. Just hang out somewhere." Brenda looked at each of her friends, her cell still in hand. "Fritz is busy tonight so make the most of having me in your lives for the night!"
As the group laughed Andy moved to his car and unlocked the driver's side door. "My parents are away tonight, we can fire up the grill and sink a few cold ones."
At his suggestion Sharon fixed him with a disapproving look.
"I meant sodas, judge's girl! For your information I don't drink...but thats another story kids."
Provenza clapped his hands and moved towards Andrea's car that was parked further down the street, calling behind him as he went. "Dude's got a hot sister I'm in! Meet you guys there!"
