Beware: Jane is slightly OOC in this chappie. I'm writing in a rush, sorry.
EDIT: LIKE FOUR HOURS LATER:
THE MENTALIST HAS GOTTEN A SEASON 7. I REPEAT, THE MENTALIST HAS GOTTEN A SEASON 7 ON CBS.
GAHHHH.

Patrick Jane is gazing into the sunlight from his couch in the office the last time he hears and sees Teresa Lisbon speak. He had been napping, like he usually does when he's currently not occupied.
"Thank you for your service to us, Agent Lisbon," he hears Abbott say, as he and what sounds like two pairs of heels clack down the otherwise silent hallway.
"I'm honored for you agreeing with Jane's proposition to get me on the team, Agent Abbott." Lisbon says, and Jane can imagine her fidgeting with her fingers as she speaks.
Another voice chimes in, and he recognizes it as Kim's. "I think Jane will miss you the most, honestly. No offense to Abbott, but... yeah." The short, black haired woman trails off and clears her throat.
"This is not goodbye, though. It's only temporary, or at least until Marcus and I can establish a long distance relationship together." Lisbon announces, and Jane can hear a fake perkiness in her voice. He can tell that Abbott and Kim Fischer are thinking the same thing: that first you need to 'establish' that kind of relationship before moving in together and going to a whole new state (or Washington DC, in Lisbon's case).
"Listen, we respect your decision for this sudden departure, but you should really tell Jane. He won't forgive himself and he will go crazy, mark my words." Abbott says, his voice cautioning. "He really cares about you. It's not my place to say how much or in what way, but he does. He might not say it, or show it." The African American man raises his voice, as if he knew Jane was listening. "But Patrick Jane really cares about you. Believe me."
Several moments of silence follows Abbott's proclamation, and Teresa is the one to break it.
"He had his change. Twelve years. I moved on. It's my turn for happiness, and he has to learn to live with living knowing he lost what he could've had." Lisbon's voice is bitter, and Jane's heart breaks at the sheer amount of pain her voice brings forth.
A shuffle of grunts and murmured words are exchanged, along with hugs from what Jane can see in the reflection.
Kim speaks, and her voice shakes slightly. "You were my first actual girl-friend, and I'll miss you. Keep in touch, okay?"
Lisbon nods and from the wavering of her voice Jane can tell she's about to cry. "Okay." She turns to Abbott one last time. "Thank you again, sir. It's been a pleasure."
Teresa heads to the elevator and speaks six words that leaves Jane heaving for breath. "Tell Jane I'll always love him. But purely platonically, now."
As the elevator opens and it dings closed, Jane leans back and his eyes flutter closed. He doesn't know what to do but sleep, and that he does.
